REMASTERED BY STEVE ALBINI AND BOB WESTON AT CHICAGO MASTERING!Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7". Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7" were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7" of The Model/He's A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). Big Break occur somewhere in the cracks between hardcore, new wave and egg punk. Apparently unable to concentrate on a song for longer than 2 minutes, their music is minimalist, agitated and addictive. Taking inspiration from the likes of Devo, Negative Approach and Food Fight by The Village People, they combine hyper guitar hooks with taut rhythms and break-neck changes of pace. Recorded at Sheffield's Delicious Clam Studio, their debut album, Angel's Piss, features songs about the gaffer (bad), computer phones (bad), bank holidays (good), relationships (mostly bad), and bodily fluids(depends). It's an on/off, in/out, bits and pieces document of the band's first LP that captures their raw energy and sense of immediacy. Formed in the basement of the aforementioned Delicious Clam, the band's current and previous musical incarnations include Best Friends, The Hipshakes, Nai Harvest, Avida Dollars, Thee Mightees, Joy Boys, Thumbuster, Champayne, Town Cruise and more. We have known Big Bug for many years… 29 in fact! He lives near to us here on the South Coast and he has been a big inspiration. A truly authentic sound that was years ahead of the competition.

This release was originally put out by Bournemouth based Underdog Recordings, run by Olly Underdog, back in 1995. Around this time the musical landscape of drum and bass changed dramatically and the ‘intelligent’ sound of Bukem and Fabio lead the way. Big Bud ended up recording for both back then, he was just embarking upon his musical voyage.

Interesting fact – the B-Side was never supposed to be called New Vision. Keiron from Aquasky was recording under that name in 1994, also for Underdog, and Olly got the names muddled up when making the labels… so the track was accidently renamed and ‘New Vision’, the track name, was born!

Big Clown is a group of best friends from Memphis, TN and Jackson, MS who got together one night to try and make a record without writing or rehearsing anything beforehand. In talking about this deck of cards we decided to release a 7" with it and El Michels Affair cut a track for Bobby Oroza to write to which plays up the theme here and is aptly titled "Stack The Deck". For good measure we dug in the vaults and made the B Side El Michels Affair's crushing cover of the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Things Done Changed". This playing card collaboration is a limited 500 piece run. Standard 52 card poker deck, 2 jokers , and 2 logo cards in a customized box.
