Lars Huismann is back on Mutual Rytm with the much-anticipated third volume of his 'Sounds From The Past' trilogy.

A core part of Shdw & Obscure Shape's ever more crucial Mutual Rytm imprint thanks to his timeless techno offerings as part of his ongoing 'Sounds From The Past' series, Berlin-based DJ/producer Lars Huismann's stock continues to rise release by release as a talent merging influences from the past with forward-thinking nuances of the future. Drawing on the early 2000 techno sound, he embellishes it with his own perspective, as evidenced by his earlier releases on the label. This latest six-track offering is another accomplished outing from this unique talent as he concludes the three-part series on the label in style.

The title track 'Sound From The Past Iii' opens up with a finely filtered chord groove that provides a smooth and hypnotising foundation. A subtle bassline, buoyant kick drums, and embedded vocal patterns harmonise with the synths, unveiling a smooth linear groove that soon sweeps you up.

'Fusion' brings more intensity with its barreling drum kicks, a dirty driving bassline, and melodies flashing by like headlights on an intergalactic motorway, with the overhanging pent-up energy inescapable. Next, 'Shimmer' rides on vast, heavy layered drums that are warm, and comforting as the track travels through a journey of diverse dub techno elements.

Like in 'Loucura', taken from 'Sounds From The Past II', Lars again showcases his strong influences from Brazilian and Latin music. On 'Estar Farto', the drums and bass are tightly interwoven, racing beneath bright and funky synth lines that bring ever-evolving shades of colour. A jazz drummer himself, the music transports into the groove via intelligent brass chord progressions and fine-tuned vocal and percussion elements.

It's straight dance floor business on the closing vinyl production 'Bittersweet', with its muted synth smears darting over more macho drum programming, while digital bonus 'Dusty Lick' is an unrelenting, jazzy, percussion-driven banger that hits hard and heavy in all the right places.

Chontane returns to Mutual Rytm with a more raw and aggressive sound than before across six powerful new tracks on his latest EP, 'Permanent'.

Berlin-based Ukrainian DJ/producer Chontane has had a busy twelve months. Capped off by recently launching his own new Tane label, the exciting talent has been working hard to reinvent and refresh his sound in the studio. Mastering new techniques to push things to the next level, this EP and return to Shdw & Obscure Shape's Mutual Rytm proves he has succeeded and then some. Where previous works on the likes of Arts and Rekids were full and more melodic, here he has restricted himself and gone for a more visceral sound. Developed and built in all new ways with an innovative approach to sound design and arrangement, the tracks on the package showcase a more serious and harder-hitting side to his sound as he unveils his impactful 'Permanent' EP.

Opener 'Graze' has a monstrous feel to it, with ghoulish synth loops and industrial textures all coming on strong and heavy. As it bangs along, incendiary hi-hats and lithe pads all bring extra weight and detail. 'Cumaru' is a highpaced techno workout with a frenzy of synths and percussion, all making for dense layers of heavily textured sound. 'Schima' brings some big techno bounce in the drums and more hurried, rusty synth loops that lock you into the darkness. Showing yet another side, 'Lauan' is a little more paired back with pounding tribal grooves and bright synths, bringing relentless yet funk-fuelled intensity. 'Vevis' is the most melodic of the lot - a heavy track but with subtle optimism in the rising background synths that will surely get hands in the air.

Last of all is digital bonus 'Makore', a cauldron of intensity with scraping hits and relentless drums, vastly oversized hi-hats and slamming bass. This high-impact, beautifully brutal yet groove-heavy techno takes Chontane's sound into new realms, and delivers an impressive return on a label continuing to push the genre forward.

In March this year COD3 QR delivered a digital threesome from DJ Deep, Avision and Deetron. Now, twice as much is coming in June for the label's first vinyl-only release, with each artist bringing a second track to the platter. As usual the tracks have been selected by Laurent Garnier for the label whose ethos is: Music diversity is our strength!

Fortunate to grow up around the rich club culture of NYC and influenced by the sounds around him, Avision started young on the turntables at the age of 12, gained his first residency at 15, and hasn't looked back since. Around that time, he also began to hone his production skills and developed a distinctly New York-flavoured techno and house sound which is evident on "Hold No Groove" and "Talk Is Cheap". It's the recognisable sound he's previously brought to the likes of Cocoon, Ellum, Drumcode and Hardgroove.

Having been involved with making and playing music for over 20 years, Deetron is an artist who is assured in his ambitions and a skilled performer, maintaining a high level of quality in every aspect of his career: from mind-boggling three-deck DJ sets to his special touch on remixes or his diverse range of productions. In 2014 he launched his own imprint, Character. But has also graced the likes of Axis, Music Man, Subject Detroit, Running Back, Rekids and more. Here he brings the original techno sound of "Pulse", alongside the deeper "Corazon".

DJ Deep got the party started with "What's Going On". It's now accompanied by the hypnotic "Transition". So, it's no surprise to hear he started playing at clubs and raves in Paris in the late '80s / early '90s, including Laurent's renowned Wake Up at Rex. The respected and versatile DJ, producer, label-boss and party curator is just at home helming the decks at major venues as well as mixing radio shows for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM. As a producer his critically acclaimed appearances on Rekids, Kaoz Theory and Tresor, not to mention his own Deeply Rooted, have demonstrated his imaginative approach to house and techno.

Voices From the Lake (consisting of Donato Dozzy and Neel) mark the 10th anniversary of their influential self-titled album with a fully remastered reissue on Spazio Disponibile. It arrives in full on vinyl for the first time, as well as on digital formats, first quarter of 2023 as the pair continues to play select live shows around the world. The release will see the light of day as a 4-set vinyl LP release, including download. Italians Dozzy and Neel have been friends united by a shared vision of music since their teenage years. They are immaculate sculptors of sound who fuse evocative ambient and leftfield techno into multi-layered soundscapes. For many years they worked as established solo artists but came together in 2011 to craft what is now regarded as one of techno's most pure and absorbing listening experiences. It's often said that the best music comes about as a happy accident, and that is certainly true of Voices From the Lake. The career-defining album first arose in the thoughts of Dozzy and Neel when the latter was preparing a mix for the former's wedding and named it Voices From The Lake. It was a pertinent title that stuck in the mind: both grew up by waters around the coast of Italy, and in their early days the pair even held private parties on the shores of a lake. Fittingly, Japan's celebrated Labyrinth festival at that time was also held by a river and a lake in the middle of a forest on a serene mountainside. It was that exact setting the pair envisaged when making music to play live on stage. During preparations, they "accidentally" wrote an entire album. It has only ever been performed live a few times - once at Japan's Labyrinth festival in 2011, at London's Barbican, Barcelona's Mira Festival, Paris' Marathon Festival and once during 2022's Amsterdam Dance Event. Those shows saw the pair using banks of analogue and digital equipment to improvise in the moment and essentially remix the album live on stage. That spontaneity is captured in the original Voices From the Lake recordings and on later LPs such as Live at Maxxi in 2015, and the most recent EP Quarto Freddo from 2020. But the debut album remains a standout achievement. A decade on, it's quiet intensity, musical storytelling and slowly unfolding tension remain in a class of one. Each sound is meticulously designed and placed, and the spaces left behind are just as important in conveying such a captivating mood and emotion. Rather than traditional kick drums, hi-hats or snares, this is music crafted from layers of real-world sound - dripping water, chirping birds, rustling leaves or a distant breeze - and it's that which defines the album's organic allure. From deeply contemplative to cautiously optimistic, pastoral organic scenes to more underwater worlds, Voices From the Lake is a cohesive collection of tracks that add up to one inseparable whole.

A record that drew inspiration from the sets of The Comforts founder and it definitely shows.

The record kicks off with “Dysania”, a dramatic synth-heavy track with a vortex-inducing bass providing the foundation. A track best described as mystical and inviting, perfect for setting a specific tone. Following up is “Clay”, a track rooted in the fundamental essence of electro music yet elevated with an irresistible groove—an ideal track for when you want time to stay still on the dance floor.

The B side flips the mood from low-key melancholia towards something more intense and inspired from trance influences. The first track “5am Gillian House” feels like a fast-paced race or an intense battle that induces a feeling of energy suitable for the peakest hours of the night.

Their second single 'And You Feel' is an emotional rollercoaster combining UK breakbeat with a dubstep-influenced bassline wobler and alluring vocals, emulating the moment the mind becomes a tranquil void through the crescendo of adrenaline like a strain of physical exertion. This is reflected on their new music video which shows an unexpected "rage room" scene. As for the rest of the album, fittingly, the album opens with 'Unity', a brief cry from FJAAK that urges listeners to overcome their prejudices and focus on the music itself. Then we're thrown right into 'And You Feel', a searing blend of nostalgic pads, snatched diva vocals and factory-strength breaks. A conscious balancing act between tranquility and rushing adrenaline, it's one of the album's most unashamedly emotional moments. And by the time we reach 'Redemption', dynamism takes hold completely: ear-pummeling drums feed the soundsystem, and squelchy, acidic TB-303s twist into peak time. For FJAAK, it's a track that confronts the harsh reality of a music industry that's not always kind to artists, highlighting the relentless struggles in a furious rush of pneumatic kicks and a merciless synth throb. The mood shifts into intricate dark territory when they team up with Modeselektor on 'Horsepower', a track that captures the giddiness of their studio sessions. A rush of stepped breaks, lysergic pads and untamed glitches, it's a trip towards ecstasy that's a testament to the four producers' mastery over their craft. And on the energetic 'Mechanic Love', FJAAK examine the relationship between humans and technology wondering what impact an augmented reality might have on intimacy and companionship. Using wailing, timestretched voices and pounding kicks, they blur the boundaries between the organic and the mechanical, whisking their sonics into a passionate fervor. Elsewhere, they pause for breath on the blissed-out, aquatic 'Glove Box', and enlist Munich's Skee Mask on the electro-tinged 'Black Ice', bringing in FJAAK's former member J.Manuel to slow down gritty breaks into a contemplative whirl on 'Wind Mill Hill'. Two Italians step into the Bordello. Both are armed. Their weapons of choice? The synthesizer sounds of italo, new beat and wave. Listeners are pulled into the underbelly of A Promise In The Cold Night with the murky “Tanzen”. Alex Vincent’s words are shrouded in glitch, bright burbling bars and a clean clap offering a path of light to help the listener navigate their way. The true coldness of the night arrives with the stabbing keys of “Synthesised Emotion”. Through a haze of hi-hats, an electrical smoke of blacks and greys fizz with juddering volts as passions pour through cable and wire. That haze grows thick in the close. Through a mist of distortion, a “Sphere Of Light” penetrates. Pin-pricks of percussion are dowsed in aquatic tones before a syrup of static is poured across proceedings, lost vocals ghost in this fog of bending bodies and forms.

The original version of this gorgeous schlager techno track, released in august 2001 on Kompakt's Total 3, would put a smile on a lot of people's faces. Apart from the reworked original version, you'll get two sensational remixes: The one from Frankfurt's high-aesthete, super hipster, club- and label-owner with a three-letter name: Ata. Since the very beginning, his Playhouse label has always been a guarantee for finest German House music. It's his first (!) remix ever and his first studio work since the legendary first Playhouse release 'Holy Garage' in 1993. The 'Playhouse Mix' turns the original version into a mega-hip, late-night monster and reminds a bit of the great Larry Levan and Metro Area's congenious adaption of early-80s disco music. The 'Robert Johnson' club is going down on its knees. Wonderful. The other remix comes from one of Kompakt's in-house pioneers of pop ambient: it's Olaf Dettinger. Who didn't want to miss this chance and has interrupted his creative pause only for doing this wonderful 'Moonlight Mix'. Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant is a figure in techno history that needs little introduction. As a member of the Sandwell District collective and the label’s art director he collaborated on works that were responsible for a global focal shift in the genre as their label adapted and challenged the paradigm of minimal techno, taking influence from other sources such as dub, post-punk, and even classical minimalism.

But Mendez’s relationship with music goes back much further than these seminal releases. With In Memoriam, Silent Servant’s latest release on Tresor Records, Mendez writes a deeply personal memoir of a 30-plus year career spent exploring and absorbing the shadowy side of music; a carefully crafted elegy to people, places, and times past and the lasting effect they have on the present.

Across the four tracks, Mendez pays tribute to the earliest Detroit techno and electro, the Belgian EBM movement and the wave music that followed, the monumental dub techno sound from Berlin, and the harder, abrasive sound of the UK at the turn of the last millennium; exploring and referencing the genres that informed his later work. Each track name gives a hint to the timeframe he is revisiting and re-contextualising as the E.P. repurposes the styles that exerted an influence on him.

This E.P. represents a pure distillation of Mendez’s memories whilst also cementing his place in the current and future sound of 21st century techno; aware of where we came from but focused on where we are heading.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman's redefining acid techno masterpiece, Sheet One, has been mastered from the original tapes and reissued on vinyl via Mute and NovaMute.

Released in 1993 on Mute's subsidiary label NovaMute, this record was the debut for Richie Hawtin's alias Plastikman. 30 years on Sheet One is a landmark album in the field of electronic music, it changed the shape of what the genre could be and became.

Introducing one of techno's most recognisable logos, the album achieved a degree of notoriety for its acid blotter-style perforated artwork. Musically it focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks, with frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago's acid house scene. Hawtin once described Sheet One perfectly in an interview with MusicRadar, saying "...It's music for the end of the party as you're melting into the floor, which is exactly what the name Plastikman was made to represent."

This seminal album helped to establish the template for minimal techno, and is a must listen for lovers of electronic music.

Shrouded in mystery, the record has gained cult status among veteran ravers, record collectors and those who are allured by the spiritual and ethereal quality the record embodies. Magic Ritmo is delighted to lift the cloak and share the story of the record and artist through a fully licensed and remastered release.

G.F.X. is the alias of Geoff Waterston, a musician, producer and engineer from the coastal town of Whitley Bay, North East England. G.F.X. was born from a youth spent tampering with electronics, taping drum beats off the radio and resourcefully discovering his creativity. Performing originally locally, G.F.X. quickly became a name spotted on the line up of many acid house nights that were popping up across the North east, as the area began to receive their first transfusion of acid house.

Often hidden away from the archives documenting this time, the North East of England was a pivotal and culturally rich scene amongst the acid house movement. Most prominently, and fondly spoken of, was Middlesbrough’s ‘Butter Loggie’, a bizarre sounding party that grew to crowds as big 10,000 youths partying at the Herlingshaw Centre in Eston, a community centre by day and place of pilgrimage by night for those eager to experience the beginning of acid house. G.F.X. performed regularly at the Butter Loggie and recalls the impact and ferality of the event, a wild and loose party where the soundsystem shook through your bones. These early experiences provided Geoff with his first glimpses of spirituality, which provided much of the inspiration behind the EP’s title track ‘Eternal’.

The story and legacy of ‘Eternal’ lives on, remastered and reimagined through the lens of Magic Ritmo. Limited 500 copies. 180g vinyl including inserts.

We would like to thank Geoff and Zara for their trust in us and allowing us the honour of putting this important piece of culture back into the world.

After new releases by Alexander Johansson & Mattias Fridell in April and Vinicius Honorio in May, James Ruskin welcomes back Kr!z with his third EP for Blueprint.

Kr!z has been at the forefront of techno for more than a decade. Influenced by the hypnotic and energetic sound helmed by veterans such as Jeff Mills, Steve Rachmad and James Ruskin, he gradually but steadily developed his own identity in the international techno scene. After making a name for himself as a skilled DJ in home country Belgium and the Netherlands, Kr!z launched Token Records in 2007. It has since been a leading outlet for heady, purist sounds. He rapidly established the label as a fixed value with a timeless and powerful sound and took it around the world with label nights on every continent.

After 12 years spent assiduously focused on curating the Token discography, showcasing artists he has nurtured and supported over this time, 2019 saw the release of his long awaited debut EP on Token. "Mantra" received high acclaim by both media and the scene's key DJs. This continued in 2020, when he released the track "Scorpion's Tail" on Voltage Imprint and "Malice" & "Imperative Needs" as part of a split EP with Pfirter on his MindTrip label. 2022 was his most prolific year to date with three full EPs seeing the light of day: "Neutrino EP" on James Ruskin's Blueprint Records, "The Tunnel" on Setaoc Mass' SK_eleven and "Atlantis" on his Token. In 2023 he released a follow up on Blueprint "Revelation", a split EP with Steve Rachmad on Reclaim Your City and "Marbles" on Token.

Now, the Belgian DJ and producer returns to Blueprint with a new 4-tracker this summer, entitled "Horo EP".

January 15,2024 - Today, techno force of nature Charlotte de Witte unveils a two-part homage to an iconic era of Belgium’s underground club scene with the debut of an archival label within her Kntxt imprint and a rework of one of the most anthemic techno tracks of all time. Appropriately titled Époque, this sonic time capsule aims to simultaneously preserve and reimagine the spirit, sounds and discotheque culture of the late 90’s and early 2000’s for a new generation. As head of the label, de Witte will kick off its release on February 9 with her own spin on the Belgian techno classic, “Universal Nation” by M.I.K.E Push.

Released in 1998 and originally written by M.I.K.E. Push as a B side for a different project, “Universal Nation” quickly solidified its reputation at the turn of the century as an iconic and defining track of this era in electronic music history. Reimagined through de Witte’s high-energy lens, this rework is an ode to one of her favorite classics.

Sexyrecs is a Berlin based label platforming a new wave of driving, pulsating techno. The vision sees each release shadowed by a mystic, dark sex appeal. Sr001 is a 4-track EP and the genesis of Sexyrecs. The VA release is a solid embodiment of what the label stands for: a gradual descent from hypnotic, vocal cuts to rougher, poignant rhythms. Each track pleads for a lustful surrender.

The A-side opens with a deepened, looping finish. 'Rubber Hands' amps up the heat as blends of ominous, distorted percussive elements crawl into the sonic landscape. P.E.A.R.L. provides a suffocating, sweaty track with a nod to tribal. With the second track, Bailey Ibbs creates texture through layers of cryptic vocals and crunchy mid tones with a neatly produced groove track. 'Lied To Laure' offers a fresh perspective to hypnotic techno, combining a light approach with a darker aura.

Flipping to the B-side, powerful shapeshifitng, patterns of intense harmonies, spiral, twist rise and fall. Loren Kuehne's paradoxically named 'Less' is the antithesis of its name as it enthralls you, leaving you begging for more. Continuing with a kaleidoscope of rhythm, 'The Beatbox' slides in, framed with piercing bass-kicks and propelled with a dirty, forceful undercurrent of sound. FRAZI.ER masterfully orchestrates a melodically deep and razor-sharp peak-time track.

Sexyrecs invites you to dive into an abyss of intense and uncomprising hot grooves with Sr001.
