Neo-Mod act the Carpettes began as a Stones-influenced school band, formed in the small northeast Norman town of Houghton-le-Spring in the mid-l97Os, the trio of frontman Neil Thompson, bassist George Maddison, and drummer Kevin Heard shifting to punk before signing to Small Wonder as a Mod revival act. By the time they joined the Beggar’s Banquet roster in 1978, Heard was replaced by Tim Wilder (with Simon Smith of the Merton Parkas briefly in the fold). Sophomore album Fight Amongst Yourselves is arguably their best, the appealing material ranging from the socially-relevant power-pop of the title track and the pop-punk of ‘The Reason I’m Lonely’ to the reggae cadences of ‘The Last Lone Ranger’.

Life Is Much Stranger" is the mind-blowing 4th studio album from NYC heavy rock trio The Golden Grass and it stands tall and wild, towering above their entire previous discography! It is a massive and epic sonic adventure, a post-modern collage of rock n roll ideology, swelling and bursting with hard, heavy and progressive musical energies...the past is inside the present...and The Golden Grass are moving the sound Forward! It has always been the goal of the group to connect the dots between their influences, to reconcile disparate vintage ideas that perhaps never coexisted in their original place and time! To give life to a NEW artistic vision that synergizes them together like a warm blanket, both familiarly ancient and cosmically NOW! And with all of that sonic information of the past, not to mention a healthy dose of great taste, The Golden Grass concoct their magick brew and are able to conceptualize and materialize music in such a particular way that it screams timelessly from long ago, but could only happen IN This Very Moment! Life IS much stranger after all…. This album was conceived over the past several years, through chaos and confusion, during a global pandemic that forced the band to work in new/unconventional ways they had never before imagined. The music on this album has never seen an audience. These songs have never been performed. And in fact, the recording of the album was the first time the members of the group even understood what their new creations sounded like! The initial writing sessions began in the summer of 2019, but were obviously halted in early 2020 due to the situation. Over the next two years, the band did their best to move forward with the process but rehearsals were infrequent, sickness and health threats always barking at the door, and a constant unknown of what was to come; was there any future for their art at all?...But slowly and disjointedly, they assembled their musical ideas into 7 rough pieces that would soon comprise “Life Is Much Stranger”. From Sept-Oct of 2022, the group worked with a team of engineers across three studios in NYC, recording and mixing the tracks, sculpting their rough song-forms into polished, yet quite surreal, glistening gems! And when they emerged with a finished product, the bizarre and strange events of the previous 3 years all melted into a perfect picture, a complete totality, crystal clear, wholly avant-garde and spellbinding! “Life Is Much Stranger” is an amalgamation of hard rock boogie, jazzy progressive rock, psychedelic exploration and incendiary proto-metal all bursting with soulful harmony-layered vocals, masterful instrumental technicality and an otherworldly creative ambition…and it sounds Fucking Great!

Mod revivalists the Merton Parkas formed in the anonymous neighbourhood of Merton Park, southwest London, with Danny Talbot on vocals and guitar, brot- her Mick on keyboards, Neil Hurrell on bass, and future Wedding Present drummer, Simon Smith. Discovered by punk journa- list Alan Anger, they signed to Beggar’s Banquet in 1979 for this riveting debut, which included the top-40 single, ‘You Need Wheels,’ as well as power-pop ‘Plastic Smile’ and reggae-influenced ‘Give It To Me Now.’ This brilliant LP captures the band’s dynamic start, emphasising the glory days of their short-lived grea- tness, before Mick Talbot joined Dexy’s Midnight Runners and ultimately formed the Style Council with Paul Weller.

Repress of the Josiah self-titled debut album in new coloured vinyls !!! Josiah is one of the few bands out there currently that really manage to capture the authentic '70s acid-rock power-trio sound, style and energy while also sounding fresh and modern. Take some Grand Funk Railroad, Cactus and Groundhogs energy and update it with some Monster Magnet, Nebula and Fu Manchu styles and you'd get something along the lines of Josiah's self-titled debut full length. Next to Queens of the Stone Age "Songs for the Deaf" this is my second favorite album of the year so far. If you're into the sound I've described above you really can't go wrong with this release. I strongly recommend it!! The overall feel is acid 70's psychedelic blues rock. Foghat and the James Gang crossed with Led Zep and Monster Magnet. With one foot in the harmony beat-pop of the Hollies and other in the early psychedelic pop experimentation of Revolver era Beatles and Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd, The Mirage left behind a string of 45s and unreleased studio recordings, a selection of which is presented here for the first time on LP. Featuring UK psych classics like “The Wedding Of Ramona Blair”, “Hold On”, “Ebanazeer Beaver”, “Mrs Busby” and many more! *Includes four-page insert with rare photos / memorabilia and detailed liner notes by Stefan Granados The Mirage were a quintet from Hertfordshire, England, formed in 1965. Fuelled by two gifted songwriters (Ray Glynn & David Hynes), they were soon recruited by Dick James (music publisher of the Beatles and the Hollies) as session musicians. Allan Clarke and Graham Nash from the Hollies were so impressed with them, that they took them under their wings, helping them to get a deal with CBS. Between 1965 and 1968, the Mirage released and self-produced seven singles for different labels (cbs, Phillips, Page One…), including titles like “The Wedding of Ramona Blair” (pure psych-pop perfection, included on Rubble in the 80s), “Hold On” (a mod-psych classic), “Tomorrow Never Knows” (a surprising cover released at the same time as Revolver, thanks to their Dick James connection), “You Can’t Be Serious” and more. But they also recorded lot of stuff that never saw the light of day at the time. These unissued songs run the gamut from magical Hollies inspired harmony pop (“Gone To Your Head”, “What Do I Care”, “I Want Love”…) to pure psychedelic pop, highly influenced by early Pink Floyd and Revolver era Beatles: “Lazy Man”, “Ebaneezer Beaver”, “Mrs Busby”…some of these tracks were included in the 90s on famous bootlegs like “Artifacts From The Psychedelic Dungeon” but now it’s the first time they’re all collected on a legit vinyl compilation, making “You Can’t Be Serious: 1966-1968”, the missing album The Mirage could have released at the time and a must for any UK psych aficionado. It comes with detailed notes by Stefan Granados (author of The Beatles and Apple Records: Those Were The Days 2.0 book, telling the interesting Mirage story, including their connections to Dick James, the Hollies, Spencer Davis Group, Caleb (of “Baby, Your Phrasing Is Bad” fame), Plastic Penny, Portebello Explosion…

South London blues-rock band Killing Floor was formed in the late 1960s with lead singer and harmonica player Bill Thorndycraft, guitarist Mike Clarke, bassist Stuart McDonald, pianist Lou Martin and percussionist Bas Smith, with Muddy Waters their foremost inspiration. After an eponymous debut album produced by former music writer John Edward, issued by the independent Spark label (and licensed to Sire in the US), Killing Floor was signed by Larry Page, who placed follow-up LP Out Of Uranus on Penny Farthing, again with Edward in the producer’s chair. In contrast to the debut LP, Out Of Uranus had heavy acid rock and psychedelic leanings, as heard on the anti-religion title track and songs like “Acid Bean,” though “Where Nobody Ever Goes” was more in standard blues-rock mode. As was the case with several other Page projects from the period, poor album sales made the release a true rarity, its scarcity keeping it in high demand today. Cool late ‘60s US Pepperish psychedelia with inventive arrangements, fuzz guitars, studio effects…Recorded in 1967-68 but shelved at the time.
Famous for their “Psychedelic Illusion” 45, US garage-psych band ONE OF HOURS formed in Lexington, KY, in 1966. After adding guitar player Bob Willcutt to their line-up, they released their second 45, “Feel the Pain" / “Psychedelic Illusion”, in 1967. Work then began on an album of a complete but varied musical experience called "When You Hear the Music, It's Yours".
Fuelled by the creative force of band member Shawn Foreman (a true visionary who would create the cult electro / disco project Transistor-Jet in the 80s), the group (now called Dandelion Wine) entered Chetwyd Studios where they, in true psychedelic mode, experimented and used unusual techniques like backwards recording, paper under piano strings, singing through a comb, interconnecting Fuzz boxes, etc.
The finished master tape containing 12 songs with titles like “Two Heads For 25 Cents”, “Sweet Dragonfly” or “Incense C-19X” was sent to the Liberty label with the promise of an album contract for 1968…but the deal never came through and the master tape was destroyed in a warehouse fire. Luckily, Bob Willcutt kept a first generation copy of the master with perfect sound which we present here in a deluxe vinyl edition, housed in a silver mirrored die-cut sleeve.

Obscure British prog-rock band Mighty Baby evolved from a Mod group called The Action, but moved heavily into experimental psychedelia in 1969, when they cut an incredible debut for the Head label. Glastonbury Fayre Festival 1971 captures the legendary group in live action, ‘A Blanket In My Muesli’ being a free-form jam that remains their best-loved effort; ‘India’ is a similarly hefty instrumental mega-jam with lilting flute amidst the bluesy guitar work, and there are awesome renditions of ‘Virgin Spring,’ ‘Devil’s Whisper’ and ‘Lazy Days.’ If you like your prog thoughtful, complex, and multi-layered, this one’s for you!

Despite being a work of 1999, the monumental of modern AOR that continues to shine overwhelmingly now!A duo unit by Jamiroquai's early tour members Gavin Dodds and Barney Hurley, the only work "Musically Adrift" created by mobilizing the original Steely Dan network such as producer Elliot Scheiner and guitarist Elliott Randall. The debut single "Lucky Radio", which was released as a 12-inch single, has been made into 7-inch for the first time! The othersideincludes a cover of Carole King's mellow groove "Bitter With The Sweet".

This is the new instalment of Soul Jazz Records’ ground-breaking Deutsche Elektronische Musik series, ‘a near-definitive guide to some of the world's most extraordinary music’ (The Guardian).

This latest edition features many of the classic German electronic and Krautrock groups from the 1970s & 80s – including Can, Amon Duul II, Harmonia, Conrad Schnitzler, Agitiation Free, Roedelius – as well as a host of lesser known artists such as Dzyan, Klauss Weiss, Gruppe Between and many more.

Deutsche Elektronische rarities unearthed on the album include Kalacakra (whose fan-base included the great Moondog!) and their superb ‘Nearby Shiras,’ taken from their super-rare spiritual/psychedelic private press concept album Crawling to Lhasa, from 1972.

Deutsche Elektronische 4 includes a wealth of German electronic experimental artists – the seminal pioneering group Harmonia (Roedelius, Moebius and Michael Rother), avant-garde guru Conrad Schnitzler as well as lesser known synthetic artists such as Klauss Weiss, Deutsche Wertarbeit, E.M.A.K. (Electronische Musik Aus Koln), Gunter Schickert and others.

Finally, the album also features an array of heavy and progressive German cosmic rock groups – Dzyan, Virus and the amazing Turkish/German tripped out sound of Alex’s ‘Patella Black’, recorded at Can’s Inner Space in 1973, produced by Holger Czukay and Jackie Liebezeit.

Deutsche Elektronische 4 comes with extensive newly commissioned sleevenotes by David Stubbs, author of the seminal books ‘Future Days: Krautrock and the building of Modern Germany’, ‘Mars By 1980: The story of Electronic Music’, and ‘Krautrock: Cosmic Rock and its Legacy’.

This album comes as a heavyweight triple vinyl edition with full colour inner sleeves, as well as a deluxe double CD edition with outsize booklet and slipcase. Both formats include full liner notes and extensive rare photography.

First ever release for this previously unknown late ‘60s/ early ‘70s acetate, rescued from a thrift store in Chicago. Damaged heavy blooz-psych in the vein of Blue Cheer, Majic Ship, Mount Rushmore, Houston Fearless, Apryl Fool, Sweet Slag, Mutzie, Aum, Screw, or a wasted teenage Canned Heat. In these digital and interconnected times, it’s very rare to find an album from the 60s-70s which hasn’t been documented or “discovered” yet. That’s the case with a mysterious demo LP titled “A Very Snug Joiner” by a band called Mad Timothy. In words of Steve Krakow (of Plastic Crimewave / Galactic Zoo): “A friend of mine found this no-jacket LP at a thrift shop, and there is ZERO information on them--no one knows anything and I've spoken to many collectors. Very cool sludgy Blue Cheer/Majic Ship/Mount Rushmore kind of vibe--with a few folkier tracks---it’s all pretty charmingly primitive-- I think people would want to hear this!”
Even knowing that our efforts to track down the band were fruitless, we thought that this rarity deserved to be shared with the world, so we at Out-Sider / Guerssen in collaboration with Steve’s Galactic Archive imprint, are doing a vinyl edition of the Mad Timothy demo album, hoping that any of the band members will see it and contact us…

“Imilla” is the fifth studio album by the Italian prog-rock band Il Bacio della Medusa, hailing from the town of Perugia; a record leaves back the electronic experiments of its predecessor “Seme*” and returns to the visceral and multifaceted rock sound that shaped most of the band’s production stylistic code.

Here we are facing a new concept album, based on a ‘contemporary’ topic and inspired by the figure of Monika Ertl, who took the name “Imilla” when she joined the Bolivian revolutionary militia during the 60s and the 70s. Initially recorded in a mainly acoustic form, entirely conceived and composed by frontman Simone Cecchini, once proposed to the rest of the band, thanks mostly to the arrangements curated by Diego Petrini, “Imilla” has finally changed into its current form, with progressive and hard rock tones, without however completely abandon its original folk and Latin nature.

In “Imilla”, the band’s 20-year old main core, consisting of Diego Petrini’s sprawling and multifaceted percussion and keyboards, Federico Caprai’s pounding bass, Eva Morelli’s flutes and saxophones, delicate and sharp at the same time, and Simone Cecchini’s histrionic voice, perfectly combines with the new guitarist – Eva’s younger brother – Andrea Morelli’s biting and roaring riffs. The result is yet another excellent album from one of the most significant bands of the modern Italian prog-rock scene!

Modern day Amsterdam is a bit of an oxymoron. On the one hand, the city proudly brandishes its reputation for alternative and sub cultures, pushing back against lawmakers and their incoherent policies to adopt approaches that are more realistic and levelheaded. On the other, its a place of such rampant commercial development the local government actively discourages visitors and new hotel developments. Look closely, though, and you can still feel the spirit of what, during the latter half of the 20th Century, made this place so special. Paradiso is one of those spots. A waterside cultural venue with a history first as a church, then an illegal squat, before becoming what it is today, the walls themselves seem to pervade a sense of brave, adventurous heritage. An ideal place to catch one of the most defining bands of the 1980s in their heyday, then, here Depeche Mode deliver an astounding set in a space with the atmosphere to match.

The final instalment of the electronic fusion projects that Walter Bachauer concocted for Klaus Schulze’s Innovative Communication label, Visions of Audio delves further into minimalist musique concrete, extending themes developed on Memorymetropolis in drawing on non-European vocal chants, here applied in dissociative layers. The diverse, complex arrangements include the symphonic synths of ‘Promised Land’ and the war-mode Sensurround of ‘1922 In Baku,’ as well as the obtuse loops of ‘The Final Ritual,’ the work inspiring future hitmaker Pilooski. Mondshine fans, Berlin School freaks and abstract electronica lovers should bag it.

Türküola releases maybe the most outstanding piece of Cem Karaca & Apaşlar in their adventure in Germany. Cem Karaca was a new born Anatolian Pop star from rock’n’roll roots and Apaşlar was a surf band when they united in 1967. In the end of 1967 they toured Germany and began to record with Ferdy Klein Orchestra (which was a version of Werner Müller Orchestra) between 1968-1969. “Gılgamış-Ayrılık Günümüz” is one of the singles recorded as a cooperation between the band and the “big band” . Therefore the A side of the single “Ayrılık Günümüz” (Our Day of Departi reflect this cooperation between Werner Müller Orchestra and CK & Apaşlar with a feeling of mod scene, a rock ballad with polyphonic arrangements. On the other hand the flip side of the single gives out the band’s own groove and performance with the instrumental psychedelic rock peace “Gılgamış” (Gilgamesh). Gılgamış is inspired by the Epic of Gılgamesh and the band plays a powerful groove with a Mesopotamian mood and riffs. The Apaşlar line-up playing in this piece was Mehmet Soyarslan (electric guitar), Seyhan Karabay (bass), and Leon Habib (drums). Beginning with Seyhan Karabay’s solid bass riffs which is followed by drums of Leon Habib serving an energetic groove; Soyarslan plays his Epiphone guitar with psychedelic effects which sometimes take the main theme to a micro tonal scale. Today we have the opportunity to hold this unique piece in compliance with the authentic cover coated with gelatine and its vinyl produced from the master tapes. Thanks to Türküola for this generous reissue for the collectors of Turkish psychedelia.
