The son of a slave and of part-Native American heritage, Texan blues songster Mance Lipscomb began recording albums in 1960 after the Arhoolie label became aware of his talents, the work coming at the start of the country blues revival, which he became a key part of. The excellent follow-up Trouble In Mind, released by Reprise in 1961, has top-notch renditions of favourites such as ‘Alabama Bound,’ ‘Ballad of the Boll Weevil’ and ‘Motherless Children,’ the latter with great slide guitar work, yet somehow the LP sold poorly, rendering it a sought-after rarity. Definitely one of Mance Lipscomb’s best!

Following the success of the Who’s Quadrophenia and The Jam’s stunning debut LP, Britain was hit by a full-on mod revival, the scene mushrooming in the late l97Os and early 8Os. To showcase the phenomenon, Bridgehouse Records staged a gala concert in Canning Town in May l979, featuring Secret Affair, the Mods, Squire, Beggar, and other acts, many of whom hailed from the Big Smoke’s suburban edges. "Tonight" is a captivating, extraordinarily song written and arranged by Paolo Gianolio (one of Mauro Malavasi's most valid collaborators), who strongly wanted Ivana Spagna as a vocalist. In those very early 80s Spagna used to lend her refined voice.to successful productions using various pseudonyms: Mirage, Carol Kane and Yvonne Kay and precisely Barbara York The piece released in 1982 with Delirium Records was then released in 1983 on Smash One Music by Pino Toma who jealously preserved it making it one of the many rare gems of Italo-Disco. Now after 40 years here it is revived by Best Record in all four original versions, perfectly remastered by Dom Scuteri.

They will once again be at this iconic studio, where the TBM label used to do recordings. Neo-Mod act the Carpettes began as a Stones-influenced school band, formed in the small northeast Norman town of Houghton-le-Spring in the mid-l97Os, the trio of frontman Neil Thompson, bassist George Maddison, and drummer Kevin Heard shifting to punk before signing to Small Wonder as a Mod revival act. By the time they joined the Beggar’s Banquet roster in 1978, Heard was replaced by Tim Wilder (with Simon Smith of the Merton Parkas briefly in the fold). Sophomore album Fight Amongst Yourselves is arguably their best, the appealing material ranging from the socially-relevant power-pop of the title track and the pop-punk of ‘The Reason I’m Lonely’ to the reggae cadences of ‘The Last Lone Ranger’.

Following the departure of Large Professor during the production of their second album "The Science," the newly revived Main Source welcomed Mikey D as a replacement. They had planned to release their album "Fuck What You Think" in 1994 under Wild Pitch Records, but it was shelved due to Mikey D's departure. However, the album was unexpectedly released in 1998 after Main Source's disbandment, and now it is being reissued as a limited edition cassette from P-vine! The album, which includes the single "What You Need," a track that Madonna later sampled in her song "Human Nature" (1995), explores the NY hardcore sound that was trending in the scene at the time. It remains popular among fans for its approach to the hardcore sound of that era.

1970 album that marked a milestone in the history of Peruvian tropical music comprising an outstanding repertoire of Cuban rhythms as a response to the trends of the moment: boogaloo and Colombian cumbia.Guitarist Pancho Acosta lead the band and Kiko Fuentes delivered the vocals across some juicy descargas and guarachas.In the late sixties, a generation of young Peruvian musicians, who were fans of tropical sounds, chose Cuban rhythms over the onslaught of boogaloo and Colombian cumbia. This musical movement attracted a legion of young followers, mostly from popular districts of Lima.In 1969, percussionist Domingo Guzmán Villanueva was commissioned by the MAG record label to get together a group to revive Cuban musical tradition. To lead the project he recruited, Francisco "Pancho" Acosta, founder and guitarist of the Company Quinto. The new group was baptized Los Kintos, in a nod to their desire to carry on playing in the Compay Quinto style. Latin Afrobeat band whose debut LP "Bailalo Duro" was released at the end of 2020 has been the talk of the town. The Nkumba System, led by former Romperayo guitarist Guillo Cros, is now available on Okra!! Both sides are from completely different sessions and were not included on the album "Bailalo Duro". Guillo Cros was a guitarist in the band of Cameroonian music veteran Mama Ohanja before joining the Romperayo. The sound that this wandering French guitarist has created in Bogota with Colombian musicians such as John Socha, who was also a bassist in the Romperayo, is a hybrid groove of Afro-Latin and Latin music from the vintage tropical music revival onward that is distinctly different from the Afro-Latin music of the past. While based on traditional Cameroonian and Colombian rhythms, it also incorporates Afrobeat, champeta, and a touch of psychedelicism to create a strong dance sound that was not possible before.

Founded in 1982, the CRACK didn't release their debut album until 1989. These British punkers were often tied into the Oi! scene of the mid-80s along with Cockney Rejects, and The Business, they had more in common with the melodic punk stylings of 999 and mod groups like The Jam or Secret Affair. Featuring a blistering wall of guitars and biting melodies, from the classic album opener "My World" to the raw closer "The Giddy House" The Crack deliver ten fantastic original tunes that, while firmly rooted in 1980s UK anthemic punk, also features a pop sensibility that presages the oncoming Brit-pop scene that would absolutely dominate the '90s. Seriously, we'd bet the farm that the young Gallagher brothers were blasting this back in 1989. The Prisoners were a regular live act in London’s psychedelic
and mod revival scene of the early 1980s. They recorded some
fantastic material blending garage-punk, soulful vocals, and
electrifying Hammond organ, but never quite made it. They
called it a day in 1986, and most band members went on with
new musical projects, including The Prime Movers and The
James Taylor Quartet.
The love of the Prisoners’ music has grown ever since though,
and the original four members have done several re-unions over
the years on stage and released a long-awaited comeback album
this year. Their lasting influence can be detected on subsequent
generations of musicians, including many of the Madchester
bands of the early 90s, notably the Charlatans and the Inspiral
Carpets, and serves as a blueprint for Britpop and beyond.
Now we release The Prisoner’s best songs on the LP Hurricane
with great packaging, liner notes and rare photos.

Started around a decade ago, "Overcloseness" has been a long time coming. It is Colorist's debut album on paper, but already has a magnum opus feel to it. The beginnings of Colorist lay in the Cologne music community. Being small, it was always influenced by the art and the film scene. (In fact, the label Magazine originates from the same crossing point.) The large cast of guest appearances underlines how much Antonio de Luca and Caroline Kox are in the center of that Cologne community. On "Overcloseness" intimate pieces for one or two instruments alternate with dense choir anthems ("Embody") and tracks built from ultra intense fabrics that conjure up the mediative hardness of Tool ("Blood Markers"). Driven by the otherworldly voice of Koxi and a larger than life bass line by Antonio, the album culminates in the unforgettable "Touch Me". Oscillating between a bad migraine and cathartic hypnosis, Colorist have created a genre defying universe of an album.

"Polk Salad Annie" was the song and cadence for delivering White's unmistakable swamp rock sound, which called to mind the sound John Fogerty whipped up on Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bayou Country" and "Green River". Released in 1969, White's album debut "Black And White" contains some of the best swamp-folk-soul-funk of the era. White grew up in the soggy marshlands of Louisiana, his real-deal deep voice sounding like it's dredged from the bottom of the Delta. Rural life in the dirty south provided the inspiration for witty, sometimes funny, and sometimes poignant lyrics (later Tony Joe would pen the smash "Rainy Night In Georgia"). This Analogue Productions edition is the highest-quality reissue of "Black And White" released to date. It was mastered from the original analog tape by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and features unsurpassed plating and pressing on 200-gram heavyweight vinyl by Quality Record Pressings, makers of the finest-sounding LPs in the world. The dead-silent LP playing surface captures White's voice and his strong and funky backing band in true analog majesty. Besides "Annie", side one of "Black And White" includes several other White originals. AllMusic judges the best of these to be "Willie And Laura Mae Jones", a song about race relations with an arrangement similar to "Ballad Of Billie Joe", and "Soul Francisco", a short piece of funky fluff that had been a big hit in Europe in 1968. "Aspen, Colorado" presages the later "Rainy Night in Georgia," a White composition popularized by Brook Benton. The second side of Black and White consists of covers of hits of the era, with the funky "Who's Making Love" and "Scratch My Back" faring better than the slow stuff. Dusty Springfield had a minor hit with "Willie And Laura Mae Jones", and White's songs were recorded by other performers through the years, but "Polk Salad Annie" and the gators that got her granny provided his only march in the American hit parade. Highly recommended for fans of Creedence Clearwater Revival, J.J. Cale, and 1960s soul!

These recordings were made in Bombay in 1968 by Bengt Berger (Bitter Funeral Beer Band) during a stay with Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, who was primarily responsible for the revival of the Rudra Veena as a solo concert instrument. His home in the suburb of Chembur was at the time the magical haunt of a plethora of fantastic musicians, including Ritwik Sanyal and K. Sridhar, who took part in the session. In perfect and stern Duphrad vocal style, these two Raga lead us to different atmospheres and perceptions : Malkauns is the contemplative state of the evening, of the abandonment of the senses before the breaking of the silence in the night; Miyan Ki Todi is the first breath of the morning, the gentle awakening of the limbs before a puja. The two Dagar brothers, Mohiuddin on the Rudra and Fariduddin on the chant, complement each other, become ocean and fire, stillness and storm, in an intimate and tight dialogue of exploration and expressive subtlety, in which the purity of an Indian summer becomes the highest symbol of beauty and freedom of spirit. Anadyomene, published for the first time in 1987, shows the myth of Venus in a dystopian and dreamlike world. Laneri conceives a sound poem that opens up to the archetypal dimension of the water creation, through the symbol of bivalve conch, the myth of the feminine power is narrated thanks to the verses of the renaissance poet Angelo Poliziano. Creating a daring connection between western and eastern music, travelling on the Mediterranean sea, the contemporary technologies and techniques revive and re-read ancient musical practices: contrapuntal structures and minimal electronic procedures venture into exotic analogies, strange Renaissance allusions, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean repertoires. Among otherworldly fairy voices, symphonic wandering pathos, aquatic disturbances, Indian Hindustani echoes or psychedelic radiances. A special relationship between space and time, architecture and music, the manipulation of sounds conceived as the art of memory in its various meanings of preservation, transformation and distortion.

Conceived in New Jersey’s then-emerging DIY scene of the late 1990s, cult hip-hop act Dälek pioneered an intriguing fusion of progressive lyrical prowess and sonic experimentation. With unique dark ambient / rhythmic noise elements, the trio was described as a mix of Public Enemy and My Bloody Valentine. Their singular sound was documented on four milestone albums released on Mike Patton’s Ipecac Recordings imprint, alongside live actions supporting the likes of Tool and Melvins and collaborative works with artists such as Faust, before the group ceased regular activities in 2011.

In the spring of 2015, mastermind MC Dälek (a.k.a. Will Brooks) revived the project with the blessing of ex-member / co-producer Oktopus. Featuring new members DJ rEk and Mike Swarmbots, Dälek presents their newest release and first proper full-length since 2009’s Gutter Tactics.

A formidable display of true hip hop artistry, Asphalt for Eden is a creative peak for the forward-thinking trio and will generate renewed interest in their iconoclastic sound.
