Stylistically, Mahjongg is boundless and indefinable. From their very first EP through K's Kontpab (released earlier this year), Mahjongg have dabbled in beatbox punk, afro-beat revivalism and junkyard whimsy. The continual shifts in their albums is an earnest attempt to realize global harmonies, but if given only one side of a 7" which side of Mahjongg would come out to play? The Dub Narcotic Disco Plate series provides the answer and "Free Groove Rider" is their most refracted pop statement yet. Using a swirling vocoder and intermittent dance beats, this single flickers like a channel-surfer finding pop sensibilities in between the static. The B-side, a remix by Selector Dub Narcotic (Calvin Johnson), ups the playfulness by reducing the static in favor of an unkempt, bubbling mix of melodica and reemerging synths.

Out now! The revival of Ruddy Henry's "New Girl In Town," a cherished rubadub gem. Originally launched in 1986 under the AIT label (All Island Television), a short-lived yet impactful music project spearheaded by producer Peter Moodie. This revival features the stellar instrumental and synthesizer sounds courtesy of the talented Star & Rhythm King backing band. Yet another rockin’ new direction from the label that can’t stop expanding its….well,…Tentacles! Meet Kultur Shock—multinational ‘Gypsy Punk’ pioneers, led by irrepressible ball of energy and good cheer, Gino Yevdjevich. Gino was quite the mainstream pop star in his native Bosnia (and the Balkans), when the shelling of Sarajevo began, trapping him in his family’s apartment for two years. He was finally able to flee, first to New York, then on to Seattle. Instead of reviving his pop career, Gino chose (a full plunge) to reinvent himself, reaching deeper into his heart and Balkan roots, and Kultur Shock was born! They began playing slightly electrified Traditional Folk, to a growing refugee audience, including many a dancing Serb. The fan base quickly widened to Krist Novaselic and Vic Bondi, among others, who then drew in Jello Biafra. - Then something happened - A year or two later, they debuted in San Francisco to a sold-out audience at the Bottom of the Hill, packed with almost all refugees and migrants - and a much louder, heavier Kultur Shock. Lineups hail from all over Eastern Europe, Seattle, and even Japan; with a much wilder, more theatrical Gino as ringmaster of all he surveys. A more punked-out, direct version of their close friends and cousin, Gogol Bordello, Kultur Shock mixes Balkan folk melodies and bizarre meters with face-melting metal and blood-pumping punk rock in a pagan cauldron of lyrical, obnoxious, and politically irreverent music stew since 1996. The band released its first three studio records produced by FNM’s Bill Gould on his KoolArrow Records – Fucc the INS (2001 and 20th-anniversary re-master in 2022), Kultura- Diktatura (2003), and We Came To Take Your Jobs Away (2006). Since 2007, Kultur Shock is self-produced and self-released on its own label, Kultur Shock Records. It released Live in Europe (2007), Integration (2009), Ministry Of Kultur ( 2011), Tales Of Grandpa Guru, vol. 1 EP (2012), IX (2014), Live At Home ( 2016), and D.R.E.A.M. (2019). So here to start is Kultur Shock’s Alternative Tentacles 7” debut. To break the ice and dangle the carrot for our eclectic Tentacle fan base, and reintroduce the now post-Covid Kultur Shock, as they head back across the Atlantic, for their main audience and festival dates, and Stateside down the road. “King” and “Country Mohammed” have been live show favorites for some time, and Alternative Tentacles is pleased to showcase them to our audience. With an all-new album is in the works, with hopefully more vinyl reissues of their past CD-only albums to follow, Kultur Shock is here to stay. We love them so much, it’s the Second band with this name on Alternative Tentacles: Dick Lucas’ Culture Shock is the first!

Nu Roots Records is the brainchild of UK based Grammy nominated Mix Engineer and Record Producer Daniel Boyle.

Daniel has released many records with a number of Reggae greats, including Max Romeo, Sylford Walker, Winston Mcanuff, Lee Perry and many more, culminating with his 2014 Grammy nominated album for Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry – ‘Back on the Controls’

The vision for Boyle's new label is to combine the best of the old and new, and at the same time creating a platform to help, in a small way; with the current Reggae Revival movement that the world is seeing..

In the summer of 2021, the ArOzA Crew released the tune "Asphalt" as single. Shortly thereafter, the then still unknown band was perceived as a promising newcomer in the HipHop scene. Interviews were given with BET, Urban Vault UK, Puls, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the record label Expanded Art Records also got in touch to license the song for a 12inch vinyl. Instead of just one single song for a 12inch, the band offered EAR an entire EP with more songs from the time Asphalt was created and fitting remixes. For remixes, Flip from Texta and Maniac from the Demograffics were won over. Flip, a rap star in his country Austria, remixed the song "For Da Nation" which features London rapper Rece Miller. Maniac from the Demograffics, known for his work with Liquid, Dexter and the Tribez, did the remix work for the title song „Aspahlt“. Also on the EP the joint "Roswell Incident", a bomb by 90Wyse from Buffalo in the United States on which the ArOzA crew gave a feature. The 12-track EP is rounded off with the instrumentals of the songs and remixes.

What's Realness? Realness is a lifestyle, an attitude towards life. It is the essence of what HipHop's all about. Unfortunately this realness has been nearly completly lost in the last few years and is only rarely found in recent productions. One whack song followed by another is released to generate plays and to enter the charts. The Realness, the values, the art and the soul of this African American culture is being sold for some small change. Marlonhil is now stepping into the ring to revive HipHop with realness.
