Further to cementing 2021 as his huge breakout year, Digga D returns with his mammoth new single ‘G Lock’ featuring US rap star, Moneybagg Yo - out now via Cgm/ega alongside the he news of his highly-anticipated third mixtape, ‘Noughty By Nature’ - set for release this coming April 15th, 2022 via Cgm/ega.

‘G Lock’ follows on from Digga’s previous releases which include ‘2k17’, ‘Pump 101’ and ‘Wasted’, the latter two of which were his second and third top 10 records. Since the release of his critically acclaimed 2021 mixtape, ‘Made In The Pyrex’ – a project which showcased the lyrical dexterity of the West-London rapper – Digga D has firmly cemented his position within drill, a genre which he has dominantly spearheaded over the last few years. The tape featured hit single’s 'Chingy', 'Woi' and ‘Bringing It Back’ - all of which charted in the UK at #24, #18 and #5 respectively whilst also earning him a 4* review from The Guardian. Digga D has continuously been commended for his consistent work rate during which he showcases his technical lyrical ability and charisma, married with his unorthodox flow.

Breaking onto the scene with his 2019 hit single ‘No Diet’ – the track subsequently peaked at #20 in the UK singles chart and to date, has amassed over 26 million YouTube views. Shortly after, his debut mixtape ‘Double Tap Diaries’ charted at #11, making it the highest charting debut for a UK solo drill artist, ever. With over 300 million global streams under his belt, 2020 saw Digga D also became the first solo drill artist to be nominated, and subsequently win an AIM Independent Music Award. Thereafter he was nominated for a Mobo Award for ‘Song of The Year’, as well as ‘Best Rap Track’ at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards. His BAFTA-winning BBC Three documentary ‘Defending Digga D’ detailed the many hurdles and setbacks Digga has faced since the beginning of his career however, in spite of this, the 21-year-old rapper has defied all odds, rapidly becoming a household name within the UK music scene.

In November 2021, Portland-born rapper Aminé released his latest project, Twopointfive. The twelve-track release finds Aminé using the project to explore new sonic territory. This exploration is best evidenced by the project's lead single "Charmander," the video for which was lauded by GQ as the "Most Menswear-y Music Video of 2021" for its incredible styling and featured by Pitchfork as one of the best music videos of October 2021. After six months of anticipation, Aminé has prepared a vinyl offering for fans of the project to add to their collection for the very first time. Since its release, the album has amassed over 100 million streams and garnered praise from Billboard, Complex and Highsnobiety, in addition to the aforementioned support from Pitchfork and GQ. The vinyl will be sold online this summer and in-store with select retail partners. Speaking on the project, Aminé shares: "The Pointfive projects are the breaks in between albums where I give myself the freedom to make music without expectations, focusing instead of spontaneity and the best of what comes from stream of conscious creation, which is why they arrive unexpectedly without a long rollout. It's an opportunity to create for my day one fans the way I used to in my bedroom. Thanks for listening." Twopointfive takes inspiration from various strains of club and dance music, synthesized in a way that feels distinct to Aminé and his brand of clever lyricism. Twopointfive acts as the second act to his 2018 project ONEPointfive, which is also lead with an introduction from Rickey Thompson and arrived in between Aminé's debut album Good For You and sophomore album Limbo. ONEPointfive solidified Aminé's status as a hitmaker in the modern hip-hop landscape with tracks like "reel IT IN" and "BLACKJACK." Listen to Twopointfive above and stay tuned for more from Aminé coming soon.

New Orleans and Cali unite on this onslaught of gris-gris funk from Connie Price & Keystones featuring legendary MC, Rakaa Iriscience, of Dilated Peoples. The Crescent City label, Superjock Records puts forth another gem in the ongoing NOLA Breaks series (V.12)...

This time around they’ve enlisted the multi-talented Jay "J-Zone” Mumford on the drums, Dan Ubick on guitar (Breakestra, Big Daddy Kane), Julius Augustus on bass (The Sandollars), Dan Hastie on organ (Orgone, Alicia Keys), Steve McCormick on dobro and Professor Shorthair on the cuts and edits. Mastered by Dave Cooley (J Dilla, Madlib).

“The soundtrack to keep the wicked in flames” in both words and sounds, this 45rpm will leave you equally angered by the wrongs of the past but with a dip in your hip as you saunter through Congo Square!

Produced, recorded and mixed by Dan Ubick for DanUbe Productions at Lions Den Studios, Topanga, CA.

In hugo, there’s a central question that Loyle Carner keeps coming back to: “I’m young, Black, successful and have a platform - but where do I go next?” The answer is explored in this epic scream of a third album. With urgent delivery and gloriously widescreen production, Carner confronts both the deeply personal (“You can’t hate the roots of a tree, and not hate the tree. So how can I hate my father without hating me?) and the highly political (“I told the black man he didn’t understand I reached the white man he wouldn’t take my hand”). Cinematic in scale and scope, hugo is both a rallying war cry for a generation forged in fire and a study of the personal internal conflict that drives the rest of the album - as a mixed-race Black man, as an artist, as a father and as a son. With Mercury and Brits nominations, NME Awards and appearances in global brand campaigns (Nike, YSL, Timberland), Carner has undoubtedly had a meteoric rise to the top, culminating with his second album Not Waving, But Drowning charting at number 3 in the UK albums chart in 2019. However, hugo sees Carner taking a sharp detour from his previous work, putting it down to lockdown and the “hedonistic side of career being stripped away. There were no shows, no backstage, no festivals, no photoshoots”. By continuing to write in these tumultuous times with a renewed clarity and sense of artistic freedom, Carner reached deeper beneath the surface than he ever had before. The result is his most cathartic and ambitious record yet, a coruscating journey into the heart of what it means to be alive in these tumultuous times, and one which looks set to neatly cement his position as one of the most potent and vital young talents around today. Working alongside renowned producer kwes. (Solange, Kelela, Nao), Carner leaves no stone unturned on this album, in both its sound and its stories. In a 10-track album that moves from gorgeous neo-soul moments to thundering hip hop, with immediate, infectious bangers and sampled interludes from non musicians (mixed-race Guyanese poet John Agard and youth activist and politician Athian Akec) Carner shifts seamlessly from micro to macro, confronting everything from strained relationships with family to the societal tears caused by class stratification. It also lays bare bruises in his personal life that he has never revealed before – often in painful, deeply uncomfortable ways, focusing on Carner's experience of becoming a father in the context of growing up without contact with his biological father. With the song “Polyfilla”, against the backdrop of a warm melodic beat, Carner explores his desire to “break the chains in the cycle” of dysfunctional Black fatherhood, commenting on the narrative of fatherhood in the genre, and saying a key part of the process was realising that his father “grew up in a world where nobody showed him how to love or nurture”. The follow up track “A Lasting Place” is an exploration of the MC’s failure and inability to be perfect in this mission. The album closer is a powerful statement of love and forgiveness; with his signature lyrical dexterity, Carner declares his relentless commitment to his son and sees forgiving his father as a key part of this. The song closes with an emotional ending of Carner telling his dad “still I’m lucky yo that we talk”. There’s a striking duality of hugo’s bold, multilayered tracks and its often starkly intimate and tender lyricism, and that dichotomy is deliberate - it is a message for young Black men, but really, anyone, who is listening. Cognizant of the immense pain and fear and confusion that we are faced with everyday, Carner has thrown down the gauntlet, defying us not to rise above the fray, wake up each day and be ambitious. Ambitious in building strong personal relationships. Ambitious in our pursuit of our goals. Ambitious in never refusing to back down against injustice. Rejecting the title of leader, Loyle Carner sees himself “as holding up a mirror”, and that clearly translates into the album's universal messages.

Available for the first time as a Picture Disc! While Edan's critically acclaimed debut, 'Primitive Plus', was a celebration of hip-hop's golden age and a true throwback, his sophomore album, 'Beauty And The Beat', is a vast musical collage that contains many different influences; hip-hop, rock, pop, dusty breaks, hazy loops, luxurious off-kilter samples and curveball tempo changes that are all crafted into one cohesive piece of art. In 2015, FACT placed it at number 30 on the "100 Best Indie Hip-Hop Records of All Time" list. In 2013 NME placed it at number 392 on the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. // "A Psychedelic gem. It's like 'The Grey Album' in technicolour" - Vice // "This is a record that exults in the joy of musical creation. On his second full-length release with Illect Recordings, The Canadian born rhyme writer lifts up his head, drops his guard and pours out his heart across ten self-produced tracks. The project comes together like a part journal and part motivational monologue. Eyes Across The Room is an earnest celebration of love and longevity as Die-rek salutes his significant other for her ride or die brand of loyalty. He speaks his love language fluently over tinkling piano keys that sound like they were rescued from RZA's flooded basement. Ditty Dum Ditty Doo is a bespoke bop where Die-rek speaks life atop a stuttering bass line with a stop and go flow. He encourages the listener to embrace their one of one identity and live life with authenticity. The spaced-out melody is deceptively addictive, but the empowering message reaches home. In the spirit of community, He Paid It All finds Die-rek clicking up with his friends Rel McCoy and Griffin. Neither one of them mince words about how their faith had been funded, and all three verses are declarations of humble gratitude. Die-rek saves the best for last with the final song. Runnin', which is the album's true man in the mirror moment. Die-rek pledges allegiance to God and the grind, promising to make use of grace and not waste his days on Earth. This particular slice of sound thrusts consciousness above the clouds with a dream-like sensation that shifts seamlessly between realms and reality. After years of losses and lessons, redemption is closer than ever. Written by Christopher Mitchel (Breaking Atoms)

At the same time Hip Hop MCs like Run DMC and Kurtis Blow were helping Hip Hop evolve lyrically in the formative years of producing hip-hop albums, producers like Davey D and Vincent Davis were defining the sound of instrumental hip-hop. Four decades later, Rob Swift and Shawnecicontinue to push the boundaries of what an instrumental Hip Hop project can sound like on For Heads That Break. Rob Swift says, "It's not like instrumental Hip Hop albums haven't existed. Respect to J Dilla and all that. But I feel as thoughFor Heads That Break is more of a tribute to the originators of instrumental hip-hop. I'm talkin' dudes like Malcolm McClaren and the Supreme Team. A lot of people may not know that Duck Rock was the first EP to feature scratches and the majority of the EP's songs were instrumental. So when Shawneci and I linked up on this project, we knew scratches would play an integral role in the music." For Heads That Break serves up the kind of hip-hop that stays true to the genre's most influential and diverse era.

DJ Nu-Mark is pleased to present his Creme De La Crate sample pack on vinyl for the first time. This dynamic collection offers the rusty grit and groove of classic funk and soul records at your fingertips without the sticky licensing issues.

The featured drum breaks and one shots were captured through Nu-Mark’s array of vintage ‘60s preamps, compressors and microphones. There’s also complete drum loops and fills provided by J-Zone, Aaron Steele and Jon Radford, as well as an abundance of melodic content thrown into the mix. From Nu-Mark’s own inspiring ‘Song Starters’ to guitar chords, bass guitar lines, tonewheel organ licks and electric piano recorded by Dan Ubick.

Whether you’re looking to create some classic hip-hop, or add some additional energy to your production arsenal regardless of your preferred genre, there’s endless creative paths locked away in this diverse pack. As Nu says; “Enjoy and stretch out! Remember, nobody can replicate you so unlock and reveal your core since ultimately your art will live in perpetuity.”

If it's really a post-genre world, why does everything sound the same? The two halves of Tampa rap duo They Hate Change_Dre (he/him) and Vonne (they/them)_first came together in front of the apartment complex where they both lived as teens. Dre had just moved down from Rochester, NY; Vonne was trying to sell him bad weed. It was clear from the start that the two listen to music differently from most people_they're sonic omnivores, obsessive deep-divers, lovers of rare and radical sounds. Starting as kids trawling the internet for tracks, they've been collecting music from around the world and across the decades, amassing a shared sonic knowledge so deep that "encyclopedic" barely begins to cover it _ not just the East Coast hip-hop that Dre grew up on, or the hyperlocal bass-music variants like jook (the Gulf Coast's twerkably raunchy answer to house) and crank (think "Miami bass meets Nola bounce"), but also drum `n' bass, Chicago footwork, post-punk, prog (they're, like, seriously into prog), grime, krautrock, emo, and basically any genre on the map. Once they graduated to DJs on the Tampa DIY scene _ which includes everything from punk rock house parties to the black "teen nights" that pop up in rec centers and ballrooms _ they figured out how to pull all these disparate sounds together into a cohesive style. More importantly, they figured out how to make it something people will actually move to. When they made the transition to rapping and making beats, they brought that pleasure-seeking approach to sonic experimentation with them. "With this album, Vonne says, "it's really like, okay, you know how you talk about the internet breaking down borders? Here's what that actually sounds like. It's not just a hip-hop record with a couple more weird sounds. You want homegrown DIY? This is a record that was written, produced, and recorded in a 150-squarefoot bedroom from the least cool city you could think of." Finally, New is what a truly post-genre musical landscape is supposed to be: building deep connections that transcend outdated distinctions between them, spilling over with the joy of exploration and possibility, and daring other artists to think broader, go deeper, take bigger risks. Let the rest of them keep playing by the old rules_They Hate Change will keep changing the game.

When it comes to the pantheon of hip-hop movies, ‘Wild Style’ is number one. While the actual plot carries about as much weight as ‘Beat Street’ or even the Fat Boys vehicle ‘Disorderlies’ – and the acting is also nothing to write home about – the soundtrack is an indelible classic.

What the film and its soundtrack caught was a moment in time and some key performances from genuine pioneers instrumental in the nascent hip-hop scene. And the influence has passed down through the ages, with rhyming couplets from the ‘Wild Style’ album still cited today, and Nas drawing on a snippet of the film for the opening track of his one true classic album, ‘Illmatic’.

What’s unusual about the soundtrack – and evidenced on the tracks showcased here, available for the time on 7” since a 1983 Japanese release – is that it didn’t draw on the tried-and-tested breakbeats that many of the artists featured on it would have cut their chops on. Charlie Chase, whose slithery scratches adorn both sides of this record, would have been used to going back to back on the records captured later on the ‘Ultimate Breaks & Beats’ compilations.

Instead, the music is produced by Chris Stein of Blondie in collaboration with Fab 5 Freddy, drawing inspiration from those earlier breakbeats, with drums provided by one Lenny Ferrari. Here, Grandmaster Caz of the legendary Cold Crush Brothers is at ease over both sides, the music evoking the sound he would have rhymed over at the block parties where he built his reputation. It’s a moment trapped in amber – you can’t listen to this 7” without imagining a graffiti strewn subway car in New York.

Griselda's Rick Hyde release's Plates 2 w/ features by Benny The Butcher, Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn and othersWith Griselda rhymer Benny The Butcher having what seems like an endless run of Ws, his BSF Records imprint appears to be getting more attention by the day. Rick Hyde is one of the top benefactors. His new project Plates II, a sequel to his independent mixtape Plates, positions Hyde as one to watch in the Griselda-wave 2.0. Sporting production from the likes of Daringer, Sha Money XL, Harry Fraud and the late DJ Shay (who the album commemorates by its release date falling on the anniversary of his death), as well as verses from Benny, Heem, Skyzoo and Westside Gunn, Hyde flexes his connections and curates a solid body of work. The project's shiniest gems include some of the singles that have already hit the net. "Hustler's Prayer" features Hyde and Heem interlocked in a battle to see who can drop the most street flexes, complemented by The SoulMonsters' grainy production. Another noteworthy cut is the DJ L-produced "Alone" featuring Benny and G Herbo -- which, aside from the DJ Shay-produced outro "Black Sinatra," is possibly the project's most replayable track. One thing that comes across crystal clear is Hyde's lyricism. He holds his own alongside a formidable tracklist of guests and shows a lot of diversity with his delivery. Look no further than the "Sarah Freestyle," where the subdued DJ Chopz and Skrilla loop provides an atmospheric backdrop to a relentless, two-minute onslaught.

Hip-Hop lost one of its most talented wordsmiths when Fred The Godson passed away due to complications with Covid-19 last year. However, his family has continued his legacy by launching the nonprofit Fred The Godson Foundation, as well as releasing some of his most sought-after music on vinyl and CD. Ascension is the first posthumous release with all new material from the South Bronx emcee. The tracks were handpicked by Fred's brother Russ and they are a prime example of the creative high he was on just before his passing. The collection of songs includes production from The Heatmakerz and guest spots from G Mims, Guap Sinatra, M City, Reef Hustle, Bandz Dinero and more. This album is a celebration of Fred's life and so, fittingly, the LP dropped digitally on his birthday, February 22. On the same day, New York City officials unveiled a new street name in the South Bronx honoring the respected lyricist: Fredrick "Fred The Godson" Thomas Way. A lot of artists make street music, but only a handful have ever received a tribute with street signs.

Following the 2006 release of break-out hit “Groundhog Day,” this Miami-based hip-hop collective continued to make waves in the underground with successful EPs, such as 2009's Technology. But fans longed for another proper record from Mayday. And in 2010, they got just that with Stuck on an Island. The 19-track album, which features the Money Making Jam Boys and several others, represents this group's efforts to escape Miami. As told to website Music Remedy, producer-guitarist Plex Luthor said Stuck on an Island displays Mayday's intentions “to make sure the world knows musicians from this city can compete culturally with the best of them.”

Solemn Brigham is 1/2 of the group Marlowe. His music has been featured on Gatorade's G is for Greatness ad campaign, 7-Eleven's Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo, Spring Breakers) directed low rider bike campaign, and NBA2K22. South Sinner Street is his debut solo album coming Sept 24th.

About the Album:
It is no secret that things are getting worse. By virtually any metric––economic or medical, or ones more abstract and spiritual––American society is in decay. The feeling permeates daily life in innumerable ways, giving the present a gnawing, ambient dread.

Solemn Brigham is not content to leave this at a low hum. On his dazzling new album, South Sinner Street, Solemn examines this decay through the prism of his hometown: Albemarle, North Carolina, where the blocks he grew up on are crumbling like everything else. “What was once a vibrant area now survives as a reminder that the only thing eternal is change,” Solemn says when describing the project’s genesis. “Trash and debris flood the streets, relics of the many lives lived––each piece with a story to tell.” South Sinner Street not only traces the degradation of the world around us, but documents the way communities can come together to stave off that slow death, lifting its members up in the process.

Solemn is uniquely equipped to animate the relics of a once-thriving neighborhood with the specificity they deserve. The rapper, whose work with his fellow North Carolinian, L’Orange, as the duo Marlowe has been critically acclaimed, is one of the most vocally acrobatic working today, able to contort himself into a dizzying array of different flows and inflections, accomplishing alone the sort of musical variety that sprawling collectives try and fail to achieve. Take “Couple Towns,” where Solemn moves from a seesaw pocket into a flow that cascades over the ends of bars; contrast this with the bonus track “Relax,” where each bar sounds as if it’s the final thought spilling out of his mind at the end of an impassioned phrase. The end of “Vice North” even recalls the technically stunning runs of One Be Lo, the Michigan rapper who in the 2000s became one of the genre’s chief chroniclers of a similar country-wide disintegration.

But this is not merely a showcase for verbal acrobatics. South Sinner Street is deeply personal, juxtaposing personal growth with the decay that surrounds it. “This is no rags to riches story,” Solemn warns. Of course––it’s more complicated than that. When, on “Vantablack,” of a toddler cradled in his mother’s arms while that mother nurses a cigarette, he is not asking the listener to imagine a tragic end or a harrowing origin story. The point is that we are all, perpetually, the child and the mother: doing our best to cope, even against our better judgment; persevering despite the circumstances that surround us.

And yet South Sinner Street is buoyed by a sense of playfulness that lights up even the pitch-black corners of Albemarle. “Nothing Left” succeeds in turning end-of-your-rope sorry into something like an in joke. When, on “Vice North,” Solemn raps about putting his hands together in prayer only to find “the line still busy,” his voice bakes something amusing in the complaint––maybe the sense that a young man in a small city is irked at God the way he might be at a flaky friend from the gym. And then, speaking of gyms, comes the laugh-out-loud moment on “Dirty Whip,” when Solemn concedes that he didn’t make the basketball team “‘cause I’m me-first.’”

Across its 14 songs, South Sinner Street argues for Solemn Brigham as one of the most exciting artists in underground hip-hop, a technical virtuoso who also happens to be one of the genre’s most surprising, most deeply personal songwriters. The album evokes the feeling of climbing onto a house’s roof to survey the nearly-burning city around you, with all the peril that entails––but also all the possibility.

The Nyc-ca connection of Milano Constantine & Body Bag Ben deliver that raw, hardbody hip-hop on their new collaborative album, 'Write It In Blood.' The 11 tracks on here were created out of a shared passion not just for the culture, but for creating art as a duo. After working together on Milano’s collab EP with Planet Asia, they both knew they had more to offer as a unit.

While the process of making this album during the pandemic wasn’t easy, it went as smoothly as they could have hoped. “This year’s been tough for everyone and to be honest this project was built so organically that it sounds like we recorded it together in a studio,” BBB says of working on separate coasts. “We definitely played off each other’s energy. He would send his verses, I would send him mine, and it just worked out perfectly.”

That energy is certainly palpable throughout every element of Write It In Blood, a project that demonstrates their gifts as multi-talented artists. They both rap on every track, and handled all of the production as well. Body Bag Ben produced a majority of the beats—”Hell or High Water” is his favorite of the bunch—but Milano got to showcase his talents behind the boards, too. He crafted the chilling beat on the snarling title track featuring Planet Asia, as well as the more soulful “Sparks Steak House.”

It’s only fitting, then, that Milano holds his and Body’s performances on the album in such high regard. “I want the masses to walk through this musical art gallery of emotions and leave saying they witnessed legends like Rembrandt and Basquiat,” he explains. His cohort agrees, adding that he hopes listeners “break their neck rockin’ to these joints!” With such a high level of production and writing on this album, it’s safe to say they’ll both get their wish.

Be on the lookout for even more from these two in 2021 as they both have several projects in the pipeline. All tracks produced by Body Bag Ben, except for tracks 5 & 9 which are produced by Milano Constantine. 'Write It In Blood' is finally available now on CD limited to only 200 copies!

It all started in 2020 when producer The Breed and guitarist Richard Holzmann decided to start their own project called PAPI CHURRO. The two german musicians came up with a unique combination of latin-folk and HipHop Sounds. Almost like a Lo-Fi Beat version of guys like João Gilberto or Carlos Jobim. But also the typical Mexican sounds of Druglord Movies like „Narcos“ are part of their soundcollage. In very short time PAPI CHURRO gained a fanbase and millions of streams on the net. Since all the instruments are played live the songs are not your average Samplebeat but come with some more complex arrangements. But still producer The Breed clearly references those „Chops and Breaks Roots“ on the songs.

Now it’s time for their first full-length LP. El Clásico features all of their recently released tunes but also comes with a bunch of new material. It features a lot of talented guest musicians. Blue-note artists Phlocalyst on some trumpet parts, Harmonica world champion Cy Leo from Hongkong. Lo-Fi producer Kid Taro and Bassplayer and producer FLKS appear throughout the record.

For the cover-artwork they hooked up with Los Angeles photographer legend ESTEVAN ORIOL (who just recently got his own bio-documentary on Netflix - www.estevanoriol.com/). Estevan himself has Mexican roots and so it was a perfect match for the project.

The Vinyl edition is limited to only 300 copies and comes in beautiful black vinyl via The Breed’s own label WE RUN THIS.

Edo. G & Insight Innovates deliver that raw, jazzy, and true-to-life hip-hop on their self-titled debut album. It’s the culmination of decades of friendship and collaboration, birthed from childhood memories and the early days of the Boston rap scene. And with this 10-track project, both artists sound as hungry and passionate as ever while they deliver one of the year’s best releases to date. For Edo and Insight, that meant more than just “boom-bap” sounds or tight lyricism—it meant bringing everything to the table, including next-level lyricism. As Insight explains, “This project is focused on punchy drums, bass, attractive melodies, and a realistic life message and story from black men in a slowly changing world.” You can hear that mission statement on instant highlights “Choose Your Path” and “It Takes Progress,” with the latter serving as the album’s first leak. With good reason, of course, because Insight and Edo admit that it’s one of their favorites from the record. In addition to featuring some of their best rhymes, it provided a way for them to not just sound off on societal issues but also offer some solutions. But Edo G. & Insight Innovates also succeeds because of the way that simultaneously pays homage to and modernizes hip-hop’s past. There are cultural Easter eggs and outright tributes all over the album, like the absolutely banging “Set It Off (Long Live Kane),” which rightly gives flowers to hip-hop legend Big Daddy Kane. The two also show love to Edo’s own history by reimagining his classic Da Bulldogs joint, “I Got To Have It,” on the standout track “Unite & Let’s All Get Down.” As Insight says, it was part of their shared goal to “make a dope hip-hop album that reflects who we are and what we’re about.” He and Edo met that goal and then some with this release.

From the producer of the Traffic, Choi brings his debut Hip Hop 45 on CHoi Records called Hip Hop Saved My Life feat. Guilty Simpson.

Side A Hip Hop Saved My Life feat. Guilty Simpson (100 bpm)

The A side has a super hot ol skool runnin' beat with horn samples, scratching, bass, Hammond organ and even some 80s realistic synth(made by Moog) thrown in. On top of that Guilty Simpson's flow and cadence is impeccable as always. The Bvs by Thando add that touch of RnB and add punch to the chorus. This is a sonic floor shaker of a HipHOp Track and sure to heat up the dance floor for those who want to sweat it out.

Side B Hip Hop Saved My Life feat. Guilty Simpson - Space Remix (90 bpm)

B Side This Boom BAP stye changes the feel up going into a crunchy, crusty drum groove with claps and clanks and spacey back drop. The bass in this track is heavy and is a heavy feature of the track. Bvs by Thando beef up the chorus into a great anthem and add sass and RnB flavor throughout. Synths and other precussion add the toppings. This Boom Bap style is a def neck breaker for the hip hop club floor!!

Paris based Roforofo Jazz is a 7-piece liveband fronted by Chicago born MC Days (aka RacecaR), with a certain taste for adventurous blends, mixing hip hop, afrobeat and jazz into their very own style. After more than 15 years slashing the afrobeat of Les Freres Smith with his guitar cuts, Martin Smith digged into the musical sediments and silts in a swamp of hip hop, funk groove, afro power, jazz freedom radicality, with a certain taste for adventurous blends. This wax solid 5 tracks Vinyl was recorded live in Montreuil (France) at Studios La Peche, in November 2019, just a few weeks after the band toured in Nigeria and played at the mythical New Afrika Shrine on the occasion of Felabration 2019, where they got invited to perform by the Fela Kuti family for a series of concerts in Lagos. The 5 titles include the single “Fire Eater”, a raw afro hip hop tune mixing rhythms in the tradition of polyrhythm afrofunk tunes, while also alternating in between jazzy mood and burning hip hop anthem. “Dump It” is a dark, mid tempo beat, borrowing the groove signature of ethiopian soul, and coated with hip hop sharp drops, while horns bring the jazzyness through their themes. “Helelyos” is a cover/extrapolation of Iranian singer Zia’s hit, to which Days vocals bring an heavy old school hip hop vibe. “2Kick1” is a relentless afrobeat oriented tune, though with a languorous spacy chorus that breaks with the traditional afrobeat routine. And “What We Think We Saw” ends the EP with an opening to more psychedelic visions, in which a Gil Scott-Heron spoken word style meets jazzy space echoes, flutes under massive reverbs in a global vibe that could remind old analog recordings of Mandrill, Cymande or LKJ.

Official Mr Bongo Hip Hop Reissue. One thing hip-hop has never been great at – and certainly something for which it has zero reputation – is nuanced emotion. Enter Large Professor and ‘Looking at the Front Door’, the group’s first single on Wild Pitch Records and the lead out for their stunning ‘Breaking Atoms’ album. Wrapped around a loop from Donald Byrd’s Blue Note classic ‘Think Twice’, bolstered by the infectious chorus of ‘Chick A Boom’ by The Pazant Brothers and Beaufort Express, it’s a melancholy tale of love gone wrong. It was a brave choice of lead single in the 1990 hip-hop landscape, plucked from an album full of genuine head-nodders and standout tracks. It was also the right choice – a piece of production perfection laced with romantic honesty. The B-side also strikes a different tack, a tale of a brother who “doesn’t fight, his brain is his left and right.” Using a solid foundation of drums from Funkadelic’s ‘You’ll Like It Too’ (most famously used on Eric B & Rakim’s ‘I Know You Got Soul’), Large Pro weaves his tale of an ambitious, studious man over an original organ line (by JD Drumsticks) that wouldn’t sound out of place at a hockey rink. The theme is sledgehammer subtle – don’t sell drugs, stay in school – but delivered with the lightness of touch that would be Main Source’s signature.

A year before Wild Pitch Records properly introduced us to the trio of Queens native Large Professor and Toronto’s Sir Scratch and K-Cut, the soon-to-be-legendary group self-released their own debut single. Dropping on Actual Records, the 12” of ‘Think’ and ‘Atom’ was soon a sought after rarity, with scarce originals still fetching upwards of three figures. On it, they only hint at the greatness to come, while simultaneously showing that they’d already mastered the three-minute rap single – this is concise brilliance with no flab whatsoever. Engineered by the late, esteemed Paul C, ‘Think’ is a study in how to turn well-worn samples into something new. The combination of several James Brown snatches, along with bits lifted from Lyn Collins and Jimmy Castor Bunch, could have been tired and almost parodic by 1989, but instead the group weave something interesting from old fabric. ‘Atom’ is arguably even better, built around a brace of elements from Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s 1967 duet ‘Little Ole Boy, Little Ole Girl’. On it, Large Pro gives the first real hints that he’ll not just be a super-producer, but a committed MC to watch. Mixing threats with humour, positivity with braggadocio, it’s a calling card performance on a track that could have still sat comfortably on 1991’s ‘Breaking Atoms’ album.

‘Try Counting Sheep’ was always a bit of a curio. For reasons best left in the dark, distant days of record label meetings of the early 1990’s, it only ever saw a UK and Europe release, our US cousins having to do without it. A strange decision because, while it doesn’t have the headnod hummability of ‘The Choice is Yours’, the group’s biggest hit, it perfectly captures their ramshackle charm coupled with a catchy hook. While Dres was a characterful and idiosyncratic MC, one thing that often goes uncelebrated about Black Sheep was their production nous. As on their other singles, they mine some familiar tracks but use the samples in original and creative ways. The Original Sheep LP Mix is a likeably meandering track that borrows bass from Jimi Hendrix and different bits of Rare Earth’s ‘(I Know) I’m Losing You’, with a real lightness of touch. As this was a UK release – the original 7” of which now fetches around three figures – the label rafted in UK producer The Principle for a remix. Best known for his work with Profile Records crew Caveman, he brings the same kind of propulsive organ track to the remix that underpins much of their best work. He adds in an instantly familiar drum break from ‘Impeach the President’ to drive a fine re-imagining that is very much of its time. It’s a record that can still summon the fun of a hip-hop club in 1991, and one that’s no longer impossible to find on 7”.

Nameless - Raised in Flint, Michigan, he’s a producer & also a human time machine for the 90’s Boom Bap sound. On this album, “Chips”, Nameless is releasing a project that has become the most personal of his career thus far. “Chips” became a 2 year creation due to a life of serious events happening: lot of forks in the road, lot of depression, lot of moving from resting place to resting place, and so on. But when a person is passionate about a creation he’s been working on for 2 years, they’ll go through whatever it takes to see that it comes to life, even if they feel like the process is being dragged. Almost every track on the project involves a story, such as tracks like “Aisle 5”....a non-sampled, Flying Lotus-channeled joint, arguably his most soothing beat, created right after he was laid off from his job, truck driving. The beat was officially completed while sitting in his car, on break from driving for Lyft. It includes a posse cut titled “4 For $1” which features 4 talented rappers: Nametag Alexander, lojii, Vic Spencer & Brain Orchestra....the track also includes 4 beats in one. [hence the title “4 For $1” which is a nostalgic memory of chips that used to be 4 for $1 back in the days] It also has a featured metaphorical spoken word on chips from his good homie Donnie McMillan Jr. on the end of the track “Pringle’s” and you won’t be able to forget the melodic harmonies from his sis, Lyric Jones towards the end of the track “Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips”. The “Chips” project has been molded into a perfect masterpiece to the point that Nameless reached out to his mentor & good friend House Shoes and told him that this project was his own version of “Donuts”.....and that’s a huge statement. Hope you enjoy! For fans of: J Dilla, Devonwho, House Shoes, Kutmah, Flying Lotus

On his twelfth studio LP in nearly 20 years, Reks sounds just as hungry and passionate on T.H.I.N.G.S. (The Hunger Inside Never Gets Satisfied) as he did when Along Came The Chosen dropped back in 2001. Perhaps even more so. There seems to be a fire that gets lit under the Lawrence, MA native whenever he begins crafting a new album. “While my conceptualizing process has grown over the years, the actual approach to getting started has remained consistent,” Reks says. “There’s a youthful eagerness that comes over me every time I’m about to start a new record.” That feeling is palpable throughout T.H.I.N.G.S., an album bursting with everything you’d want from a Reks record, but also so much more. There are certainly instances of his trademark wordplay mixed with bravado on here, like the Apollo Brown-produced banger “King of the Town” featuring Lucky Dice & Chi Knox. But the real core of this record is Reks’ reckoning with bigger societal issues that have simply run rampant for far too long. And given his talents with the pen, he’s able to blend strong songwriting with deep, conceptual lyrics. Just listen to how he tackles white privilege on the otherwise catchy “Rachel Green” or the way he chronicles being Black in America on “White House.” That’s not even mentioning “The Complex,” a lyrically gripping look at Ptsd and Big Pharma featuring Pharoahe Monch, and his personal favorite track, “Nana & Grampy’s Song,” a heartfelt dedication to Black love. For Reks, it’s all about delivering the best possible music to his fans while staying true to himself. And he does exactly that not just through his own gifts, but also through collaborations with the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Lil Fame, Nottz, Apollo Brown, Statik Selektah, Evidence, and Marco Polo, among others.

Basically the idea for one remix evolved into a whole mega EP album, inspired by "Grime Status" LP, which The I.M.F. and LMT.Break created last year joining forces with other dope MCs and turntablists representing Bay Area and beyond!

LMT.Break described and explained well the whole concept/process of creating "Reign Supreme" with these few words:

"Originally the idea was to do a remix of “When Dope Was Fresh” having Roc Marciano on there was a big deal for us and I thought it would be dope to do a remix that sounded completely different. Kinda like “Jazz (We've Got) Buggin Out” remix by Atcq. Plus we had cuts by Dj Fooders and Kodac Visualz that we hadn’t used yet so it made sense to do it. Then I thought... a 7 inch with a new song on the b-side would be hella dope! So we went in and did "Reign Supreme" which we both was hyped about and kept goin' from there and I’m very happy with the results."

So we are, knowing you will dig it too! This is real Hip-Hop, soaked with that Boom Bap flava, drippin' from the speakers onto the floor where you will bust some b-boy moves after hearing these fly beats, rhymes and cuts!

During the past decade, the Chicago-based multiinstrumentalist and producer, NNAMDI, has quietly become one of the most prolific musicians of the modern era. Whether under his own name or one of the many bands he's spent time in, either as a full-on member or merely a touring partner, there's been an endless stream of music that NNAMDI has had his hands in. Pair that with the fact he co-owns his label, Sooper Records (KAINA, Sen Morimoto), and it'd be easy to wonder how he finds time to do anything other than make music. On BRAT, the follow-up to 2017's critically acclaimed DROOL, NNAMDI removes the veil to show just how much effort and energy it takes to work at such a high level without any breaks. That process of finding a balance between NNAMDI the performer and Nnamdi Ogbonnaya the person is what fuels BRAT, an introspective record that's still as dexterous and exciting as anything that's come before, but is intimate and hushed, commanding a listener's full attention from the very start. Like all things he's done before, BRAT proves that genre classifications don't really work here. BRAT is part hip-hop, part indie-rock, part gospel, and part West African music, and in NNAMDI's hands, these seemingly disparate pieces fit together snuggly, as if there was never a question of their compatibility. NNAMDI wrote, performed, and recorded BRAT by himself.

After a welcome return from a lengthy hiatus, Dirty Hairy is back behind his MPC with a brand new release on Soul Dynamite records.
For those not in the know, London born scallywag (Mr) Dirty Hairy is a seasoned underground veteran on several jazz rap and funk 45 DJ circuits around the globe.
Whilst backpacking through New Zealand from 2003 - 2005 he was acquainted with a Maori rapper with a fondness for drum breaks by the name of Nat Lover.
10 years later ( and a few beats in between) Hairy moved to New Zealand and set up a recording studio in the lower North Island city of Palmerston North and the 2 began making music together.
After a few small, but nicely packed local gigs it was evident that the vibe they enjoyed creating was an up tempo funky feel with devastating flows and cuts.
Offered up on this 45 is new edition of a track called " Combat "( You might find a very old version of this on You Tube made with an MPC3000) This time around Hairy chops up busy drum break
saved on the trusty MPC 60 floppy disks with some pianos and horns and cuts in between the spaces.
For the flip side the tempo steps up a bit more alongside even funkier flows from Nat. His nod of respect to the early party rockers of Hip Hop is apparent whilst Hairy dips into
some more regional breaks and layers of jazz samples and cuts. A double sided dance floor burner
comprising of two funky joints giving you ' them early early Hip Hop ' feels. This 45 showcases the first of many collaborative efforts between the two ' once dubbed Dirty Lover '.

The seventh record in the Crane City Music collection

Cover photography by visual artist Izzy Vibes
Specially mastered for vinyl by Adam Straney (BreakPoint Mastering)

Crane City Music is proud to release Bobby Ro$$ from accomplished Seattle rapper and visual artist Perry Porter. His first full-length, Bobby Ro$$ is a vibe-heavy hustle through the landscape of art, blackness, and self-love. On it, he inhabits the alter ego of Bobby Ro$$, the trap music avatar of the much-loved PBS painter, Porter uses snippets of interviews with cultural luminaries such as Kara Walker, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Maya Angelou as a narrative lattice to paint himself into the canon of black art.

Originally from Tacoma, Washington—by way of rural Spanaway—Porter grew up playing drums and rapping over his own beats. His first foray into hip-hop was as half of buzzy local duo Sleep Steady, who received much acclaim in the Pacific Northwest and placed two songs in major video game titles (EA Sports UFC 2 and Cyberpunk 2077). He has since released several solo mixtapes, including 2018’s critically-acclaimed Channel Surfing mixtape.

As a visual artist, Porter’s dreamlike watercolor portraits and lush murals have been shown in galleries across the country. His notable collectors include several NFL Seahawks players. He incorporates live painting into his performances and is currently planning a 30-city pop-up painting tour of record stores for Spring 2020.

Bobby Ro$$ is the seventh record in the Crane City Music collection, a library of the hottest recent hip-hop albums from the Pacific Northwest on wax. The record assembles a wide variety of Seattle- and Tacoma-area talent, including producers Chong The Nomad, Jamie Blake, and Khris P, alongside rappers Blake Anthony, Romaro Franceswa, and Jarv Dee. The Crane City “Black Excellence” edition of Bobby Ro$$ is limited to 250 copies on black vinyl and features a cover designed by visual artist Izzy Vibes and liner notes by music journalist Martin Douglas.

Perry Porter has opened for national touring artists such as Joey Badass, SuperDuperKyle, and The Flavr Blue, and performed to sold-out crowds at 2019’s Capitol Hill Block Party music festival.

Danny Brown’s fifth studio LP uknowhatimsayin¿ drops at an intriguing point in the rapper’s career. After breaking out with his second album XXX, consolidating fame with the follow-up Old and then blowing the game wide open through 2016’s landmark Atrocity Exhibition, Brown’s status as king of the underground feels assured these days. The question as he surveys his domain, is; what next?

Brown’s answer is to make his most focused record yet. A svelte eleven tracks - short when compared to the sprawling opuses of his past - uknowhatimsayin¿ is a more thoughtful affair than anything Brown has previously released. Gone are the tales of all-night benders yammered with cartoonish intensity over beats that sound like an EDM rave in hell. Instead Brown comes off as considered and in control, his flows spun out with poise and eloquence.

The production here befits the changes in Brown’s delivery. While Brown has always been a great rapper, uknowhatimsayin¿ will go down as his first hip-hop record. While the instrumentals here are laced with the psychedelic potency of Atrocity Exhibition, they also rumble and slap in a manner that recalls classic 90’s boom-bap. This change in sound is unsurprising when you consider uknowhatimsayin¿’s executive producer - none other than the legendary Q-Tip.

uknowhatimsayin¿’s features list also feels carefully curated. JPEGMAFIA, heir apparent to Brown’s throne, gets in amongst it on ‘Negro Spiritual’. Unsurprisingly this new energy turns ‘Negro Spiritual’ into one of the album’s wildest tracks, a head-spinner that would have slotted easily into Atrocity Exhibition. Besides Run The Jewels and Brown schooling younger MCs on ‘3 Tearz’ the other guest spots are reserved for singers - Obongjayar turns in vocals on two tracks while Blood Orange croons softly on penultimate cut ‘Shine’.

Danny Brown is older, wiser, and possibly better than ever on new LP uknowhatimsayin¿

Born in Philly and raised in Montclair New Jersey, The Custodian of Records is involved into many projects with prominent artists from the underground ”new wave boom bap” scene.
Sitting on a large collection of vinyls for over 20 years and finding his influences from legendary producers like Large Professor, DJ Premier, Prince Paul, The famous Public Enemy production team “The Bomb Squad”, DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill and The RZA from the Wu-Tang, The Custodian cooked up some dope beats with soulful samples and drum breaks with his cherished Akaï MPC2000XL and E-mu SP-12.
Freshly homemade with ingredients from real vinyl samples so no “YouTube shit” like he says.

A selection of 12 tracks made it to his compilation album called “The Sampler Platter”.
The sound reflects perfectly what the Custodian stands for. The album features Estee Nack of Tragic Allies, Vic Spencer, Daniel Son, Milano Constantine of the D.I.T.C. crew, Flashius Clayton, Sleep Sinatra, Fla-Fla of Sparrow The Movement, Chuck N Lock and SCVTTERBRVIN to name of few.

Termanology has been creating classic streetwise boom-bap hip-hop since the late 90s. One of the most prevalent figures of
the worldwide underground rap scene, Termanology has earned widespread critical praise and garnered a cult-like following
through his music, and has performed with acclaimed legends such as Kool G. Rap, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, and DJ
Premier, and is a frequent collaborator with his ‘Showoff Radio’ (on Sirius XM Radio’s Shade 45) co-host DJ Statik Selektah. He
has released over 30 highly-regarded albums across various formats, while his own imprint ST Records has produced records
for fellow underground-denizens like Shortfyuz, Ea$y Money, and Superstah Snuk.
Dame Grease, an NYC native, first made waves when he produced several songs on The Lox's Bad Boy Records debut album,
Money, Power & Respect, including the hit “We'll Always Love Big Poppa” featuring Puff Daddy and Faith Evans. He followed
that with work on Mase's quadruple platinum album Harlem World and on DMX's debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, on which
he produced thirteen of its nineteen tracks. The 2000s saw Dame establishing his own label, Vacant Lot, and making hits
for the likes of LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Ol' Dirty Bastard, T.I., Cam’Ron, Juelz Santana, Curren$y, French Montana, Riff Raff
and many more.
The two legends have collaborated on a full length album, Set in Stone, hitting the streets on Sept 13th 2019.
"Term and myself hooked up on the "Its Quiet" record (from Term’s More Politics album) a couple years back & that lead us to
creating Set In Stone. We wanted to make records that our fan base would respect, and have enough of a worldwide vibe for
the universe to appreciate," explains Dame Grease.
“The chemistry was just great. So one day while we were both on tour with The Beatnuts, Dame gave me the first batch of
beats and I began writing the album” says Termanology. “It was such a pleasure working with Dame- he makes so many
different styles of beats, I was never put in a box. I was able to just go wherever the beat took me. I really wanted to try
something different with this album. This is my most diverse project. Every song is different. I got boom bap joints, lyrical joints,
R&B records, political records, even a song about fighting alcoholism. There is something for everyone on this project.”

Since the early aughts, rapper Diabolic and producer Vanderslice have moved in similar circles, so it was only a matter of time that they would join forces for a collaborative record. With the release of Collusion, that time is now, and it couldn’t have arrived at a more perfect moment. The project eschews every trend and flash-in-the-pan style to create a record that’s a must-listen for anyone who truly appreciates sharp lyricism and neck snapping production.

“We’re two artists with 18 years of friendship, colluding to form a cohesive monster,” Diabolic says of working with Vanderslice. “The chemistry is automatic,“ he adds. “At first, we tested the waters to see if the chemistry was there, and if we could actually make a cohesive record, that we were both passionate about, and we did,” echoes Slice.

It’s apparent that Collusion is an absolute force when you hear opening track “Think of That,” a blistering banger featuring shots at his rivals, over Slice’s hypnotic production. And the remainder of the album hits just as hard, with tracks like the chest-thumping “Normalize,” the Nems featured heater, “See the Light,” the DJ Revolution-assisted “Simon Phoenix,” and the B-Side opener, “The Other Side,” which Vanderslice claims to be one of his toughest beats in years.

In addition to battle-ready bars and neck-breaking production, the lyrics and album title of course reference the nation’s current political climate. But the thing is, that wasn’t intentional for either collaborator. “The ‘political’ topics I touch on are just hints of what’s on my mind at the time” Diabolic explains. Adding to that, Vanderslice states: “You let the artist write and record whatever they want. It's my job to trim the fat and present it in it's absolute best light.” With the fat trimmed and everything in place, we're left with one of the most noteworthy rapper-producer collaborations of the year.

Dope KNife is a Liberian-American MC/producer and self-described “Rap Junkie.” Born Kedrick Mack, to a Liberian mother and American diplomat father, he spent his childhood hopping the globe before being taken by Hip-Hop and claiming Savannah, GA as home. As one of the founding members of the Dope Sandwich hip-hop collective, he gained a reputation as a formidable freestyle rapper, as well as honed his unique style of “Progressive Boom Bap.” His style was cultivated in Savannah's freestyle-heavy scene of the early 2000's, where he distinguished himself with a darker and more abrasive approach. He has officially dropped several well-received solo projects including 2017’s Strange Famous Records release NineteenEightyFour, and the EP Weekend At Brodie’s on Fake Four Inc. As he prepares a new body of work, his mantra has remained the same: “Dope raps, dope beats, dope songs, it ain’t rocket science.” After nearly two years of touring the country with the likes of Sage Francis, DJ Abilities, and Ceschi Ramos, he started to put the pieces in place for what would become Things Got Worse. A self-contained project (Dope Knife produced all of the songs as well as designed the artwork), KNife calls the album a “collection of visceral songs, crafted to serve as Rorschach that we can project or reflect meaning onto. From claustrophobic Black paranoia, to Grindhouse Hip-Hop references, Things Got Worse is whatever your mind hears it to be.”

Destituent is Soles 7th solo studio album. Sole is a co-founder of the legendary anticon label, and last year as Vice noted, Sole is a pioneer of underground avant-garde rap. Destituent is an album about the innate human capacity to solve problems and build new forms of life without the need for government and coercion. Musically this entirely self produced album is a departure from most of his work, featuring heavy New Wave / No Wave influence, almost to the point of being poppy, but the subject matter ensures that it never could be. Walls of noise, upbeat drum breaks, swelling distorted synths, poetic streams of consciousness and polyrhythmic rhyming styles. Anarchy, the call of the wild and the power of music. His work has been featured in Spin, C-Span, Democracy Now, Vice, 2 DopeBoyz, The Intercept, Truthout, and countless other outlets. Sole proves that you can make thoughtful music that works in the headphones, on the dance floor, and on the barricades.

This newly formed trio composed of Philly Hip Hop Legend ”Rahsheed aka Maylay Sparks”, newcomer “Chukk Rukkuz” and rapper/producer “K-Sluggah” from the squad known as Muddy Fatique, have joined forces to form the “Hood Thrill Hunters”. This 10 track urban reprise was entirely produced by Karl “K-Sluggah” Frigyes and is a must have!

K-Sluggah, an MC and beatmaker whose origins lie in the city of Malmö in Sweden, is part of the Muddy Fatique collective that’s revered in Sweden for sharp rhymes over rugged beats. In 2007 K-Sluggah started taking his beat-making craft more serious. His preferred weapons of choice are the classic beat machines ASR-10 and MPC 2500 and of course some dusty old records to go along. The result is a production style which is sample based, soulful, rugged and raw. He has released numerous projects with his ”Muddy Fatique” partners both behind the mic and behind the boards. On this particular project K-Sluggah exibits his talents by composing some of the illest breaks, tripped out bass lines and synth tones with the help of Jack Winge, studio aficianado and bass player, who also contributed to the 2013 release ”Spit On It”.

Last year he released the LP “Twin Cannons“ with NY rapper John Jiggs which was very well received in the underground circuit. He also has notable past work with Hus kingpin, Maylay Sparks, Granddaddy I.U, Mykill Miers, Tha God Fahim, Mach Hommy, Rozewood, Monsta Mook and Shady Records signees Westside Gunn & Conway.

Maylay Sparks delivers as usual, with his trademark dynamic, swift, and descriptive delivery over broken melodies, accompanied by riffs ranging from Balkan jazz clips to 70’s Vietnamese soul. His counterpart Chukk Rukkuz, whose fierce and aggressive flow with a hint of the golden era style cadence, is the perfect match for every selection. Features include John Jiggs, Rucker P.A.W.K, and Rocc Spotz (now known as Rocc Boogie) who is yet another heavy hitter from the Muddy Fatique team. The music is accompanied by the precise turntable assistance from Italy’s finest and most respected DJ, Bassi Maestro.

The artwork is a very personal touch, it's the Avenue Maylay Sparks grew up on as a kid during the 70's in Philly and it’s actually a cartoon of an actual picture.

As an added bonus the elpee will include an extra track, an insane posse cut that will feature Conway the Machine to close off the project. Limited to only 300 copies!

Over the last decade RAST has made a name for himself as one of the undergrounds most original voices. RAST has released a handful of albums, freestyles and a slew of online singles (including collaborations with Czarface, Hus Kingpin and Your Old Droog). But before all this, RAST held down the 90’s as part of the New York Graffiti crew RFC. It was
during this time that many of the tracks on “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” draw from. The album has no features and was produced entirely by The Czar-Keys (7L & Jeremy Page) - and this was done by design. 7L and RAST worked together on the vision and the direction they wanted to go with for the
album. As 7L points out “I wanted to really take it back to a time when the rapper was the main focus. This is also why we didn’t go with a group name or a RAST & 7L title. For me it was really all about RAST, and his
story is so personal that it just made sense for him to be the only voice you hear”. From the albums start, “Base” sets things off with organs that sound
straight off old Surf footage accompanied by a pounding break beat. RAST’s signature gruff voice goes from rugged raps to melodic singing and back. On “The Devils Playground” RAST delivers some of his most honest lines recalling his youth and battles with depression. On “I Lost My Mind and Found God” RAST states plainly in the hook “I ain’t gonna see no doctor unless I die". RAST delivers these lines with the maturity of a seasoned blues man. "Runaway Slave" is another great example of this, as the track roars with a powerful hook as if he were exorcising his demons over what sounds like a dusted church organ.
Other stand out gems like "Children of Attica", “The Little Boy Who Lived in a Tree” and “The Remarkable Story of the Silent Machine Gun” show that RAST is cut from a different cloth. “I Know Why the Caged Bird
Sings” is an album where, as pointed out in the albums intro "Caged", is RAST at his most honest and vulnerable.

Cold Busted returns to familiar label artist Poldoore to release the Belgium-based producer’s album, The Day Off. Poldoore’s sound is about good vibes, creating warm atmospheres that blend funk, soul, lounge, and reggae with punchy drum breaks. The Day Off also features some talented guests, including the mysterious Maverick, distinguished emcee Awon and DMC 2012 Team World Champion turntablist DJ Damented (of The Mixfitz), emcee duo The 49ers, American blues singer Bodhilynn, and trumpeter Will Magid. There’s plenty of highlights on the release: “Morning Glory” with its rocksteady beat, “Natural High” and its psychedelic vibe, “Unconditional” with its beefed up Motown-like feel, “Call It A Day”’s dreamy funk affair, and the reminiscing rhymes of Awon, a figure in the new emerging ‘jazz hop’ scene, flow rhythmically while DJ Damented’s scratch skills add a next level vocal chop to the beat on “Sweet Memories”. Deciding to include this one in the crate should be easy, much like the cut’s vibe. The Day Off is full of sonic sunshine, exactly the kind of weather fit for enjoying what little time there is for leisure and much appreciated in today’s music climate. Give this one a spin.

French beatmaker Odweeyne is back with #3 and #4 of his grimey Blacklist series, this time teaming up with Conway (The Machine), one of the dopest newcomers and latest signees on Eminem's Shady Records, as well as Detroit's own Nolan The Ninja. Dope SP1200 production on both tracks.
Hailing from Paris, France, Odweeyne is a passionate DJ, producer, crate-digger, hip-hop enthusiast and vinyl lover.
After years of turntablism including DJing for various artists and witnessing countless studio sessions, Odweeyne decided to put all his energy into sample based production. As a self-described "child of the 90's" Odweeyne's weapons of choice are classic production tools such as the SP1200, S950, E6400 Ultra, and MPC 2000XL. With musical influences ranging from K-Def and Lord Finesse to DJ Muggs and Madlib, Odweeyne's musical outcome is all about creating hard-hitting, warm, dusty, and hypnotic sounding bangers constructed with the help of dope samples and rare breaks.
After collaborating with a long list of artists (Awon, Unknown Mizery, Reak, Don Streat, etc.) and putting out the first two installments of his Blacklist series (featuring Sadat X and AG of D.I.T.C.) on his own indie label So Cracked Lab, the French beatmaker is back with #3 and #4 of his grimey series, this time teaming up with Conway (The Machine), one of the dopest newcomers and latest signees on Eminem's Shady Records, as well as Detroit's own Nolan The Ninja.

Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement, and has solidified himself as one of the most consistent and respected MCs in the game over his 20+ year career. He dropped his debut EP with producer Fanatik in 1998, and followed up quickly with the singles "Definition of Ill" (Stones Throw) and "Place of Birth" (ABB Records). In 2001, The Source Magazine gave him the ‘First Round Draft Pick’ and ‘Independent Album of the Year’ awards for ‘How the West Was One’, which was recorded with fellow CA rapper Rasco under the group name Cali Agents. This landed him a deal with Interscope Records, where he was signed until 2003 without releasing an album.
Planet Asia was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for his feature on the song "W" by Mystic, and was later signed to Avatar Records, which released his official debut album, ‘The Grand Opening,’ in 2004. It earned him another ‘Independent Album of the Year’ award from The Source. Later, he started his own imprint Gold Chain Music, on which he has churned out multiple projects. He has also collaborated on albums with the likes of DJ Muggs (‘Pain Language’), Evidence (‘The Medicine’) and Madlib (‘Cracks In The Vinyl’), among others, and released songs with artists such as Linkin Park, Bun B, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah.
The Fresno MC is fresh off of a strong 2017 which featured well-received collaborative albums with producers DirtyDiggs (‘Dirty Planet’) and Apollo Brown (‘Anchovies’). For 2018, Asia teamed up with Bay Area producer izznyce for this true solo project, sure to be considered the next classic in his vast catalog.
‘The Golden Buddha’ was produced entirely by izznyce (producer for Superstar Quamallah and more) and features AZ, Hus Kingpin, Turbin, Marvelous Mag, Killa Kali, TriState, Xiomara and The Architect. Speaking on the project, Planet Asia says: “This album represents the foundation of what Planet Asia is about and that is ‘balance’. Me and izznyce also took our time with the record, and had a chance to really vibe out and make the type of music we personally like that will stand the test of time!”

Check out this dope LA material!

Stranger Danger from North East LA hit Chopped Herring up with a project and it completely blew them away. Ridiculous break selection from and drug-fueled, hedonistic comedy from MC's Denzer, X-press & Stranger. What a treat this one is. There is definitely more to come from Mr Danger in 2018, no doubt!!
Stranger Danger started producing in the year 2000 and his first beat machine was a Boss SP 505, but he always collected vinyl since as early as the age of five when his parents bought him the first Fisher Price, Toys R Us record player.
Danger started freestyling and writing rhymes in 1995, but didn't actually start recording or mixing until 2001. He formed tha Roach Killaz in 2016 after his younger cousin X-Press told him that he and his homie Denzer wrote and spit ill rhymes as well.
During this time Danger was recording at a friend’s studio called The Halfway House where he met a 20-year old MC and producer named Saker, who he took under his wing as his protege to help him with production on the album.
In another studio session shortly after meeting, Saker brought his homie named Duer, and that’s when the puzzle pieces aligned perfectly and they knew they had something special. All of their influences are very similar. If it sounds dope, then it is! Greatest influences growing up were MF Doom, Kool Keith, DJ Premier, Kutmasta Kurt, RZA, Apakalypse, Necro, and DJ's like DJ Shi'iteand DJ Rob One.
The recording process is simple, let Mc's go at it until you hear something that you feel can help them sound better, whether it be vocal fluctuation, vocal tone, cadence, or energy.
Too much pride is a “no no”, it's all about doing whatever it takes to make the illest records possible. Stranger Danger digs or listens to music from all era's and over the world and studies music for at least six to eight hours a day, so what keeps him inspired daily is the opportunity to find incredible samples to flip.
It's an obsessive disposer but therapeutic at the same time. He used to have small intense spurts of creating, but now it's an all the time thing as he works on three to four albums at the same time constantly and always tries to top the album he did last.
X-Press, Denzer, and Stranger Danger are all Highland Park natives, (North East Los Angeles). Duer and Saker are originally from the San Gabriel Valley, which is in Los Angeles county as well! - Tha Roach Killaz, Killin Roaches.

“I believe in the afterlife, hell and heaven, demons and angels. The horror in my music comes from a real place including things I’ve seen as well as nightmares and visions I have had.” While currently only in his mid-twenties the Inland Empire/Los Angeles rapper known as Trizz has come to be viewed as the dark horseman of Hip-Hop for almost a decade at this point.
Now following up on that sonically dank masterpiece before the duo of producer AC3 and MC Trizz presents a new full-length album together, “Ashes N Dust”. Self-described as a suburban horror flick on tape, Trizz explains “the town I come from looks beautiful but it holds dark secrets. At night, all hell breaks loose and goes undocumented. Ashes N Dust contains the lost files with everything you need to know about where I come from.”
The album’s first single “The Backstreet” is a collaboration with the current heir to the West’s G-Funk legacy, G Perico. “FreEDOm” has a sound that is reminiscent to one of your favorite Hip-Hop albums with songs that touch every part of your life. Ed O.G's conscious lyrics over banging beats are bound to resonate and inspire. The song "Smoke" features Masta Ace, marking their first collaboration since the critically acclaimed 2009 "Arts & Entertainment" album. “Boom”, Produced by Sir Williams is the first music video from the album that sheds light on gun violence and the affect it has on victims, families and communities. “FreEDOm” is Ed O.G's 15th studio album produced by up and coming producers Torchbars, Kelz With Tha Heat, Sir Williams, Geronimo X, DJ Scienz & more.

If the album wasn't enough, the Digipak CD includes a full-length documentary based on the Ed O.G & Da Bulldogs hit song "I Got To Have it". It highlights his life and career from his early teenage years to the present day. Through touring the world and making a positive impact with his music, Ed O.G's continued relevance in Hip Hop is not to be questioned.

Ultimate Breaks & Beats was a series of highly DJ-friendly edit compilation LPs that came out 1986-1991, becoming the foundation of sample-based hip-hop, and influencing pop and dance music up through the present day.

The series was created by Lenny Roberts, a Bronx-based record collector, and studio editing partner "Breakbeat" Lou Flores, who began releasing the compilations on the Street Beat label just as the art of hip-hop sampling was beginning to take shape. DJ records, which soon became ready-made sample sources, had been around since the 70s, but none matched the quality of UBB.

“The selections were absurdly democratic, aggressively ironic, (and) smartly remixed all the best aspects of hip-hop,” wrote Charles Aaron in a 1995 review of the entire series. “Dweebs like me could wander into Music Factory in Times Square and bump into Eric B or Jam Master Jay buying multiple copies of Ultimate Breaks & Beats ... the sound of hip-hop was never the same again.”

“Breakbeat” Lou Flores is reviving Ultimate Breaks & Beats with a producer series, debuting with an album by Oh No in January 2017. Oh No's 17-track collection was made entirely with sources from the original UBB series.

Styles of Beyond MC and Demigodz frontman, Ryu, unleashes his long-awaited debut solo album "Tanks For The Memories". From his early years ruling the Los Angeles radio and cypher scenes, to breaking necks and banging heads with Styles of Beyond via their critically acclaimed seminal debut album "2000 Fold" and their sophomore follow-up "Megadef", through to his work with Mike Shinoda in Fort Minor on their Jay-Z overseen “Rising Tied’ album. Experiencing both mainstream and independent, underground successes, Ryan ‘Ryu’ Maginn states “'Tanks For The Memories' is a metaphor for the battles I've fought throughout my career in the music business. That would include the bad and the good. You win some, but in my case I've lost a lot as well. In the end, I believe I'll win the war.” The album is entirely produced by Divine Styler, except for the last track which is produced by Apathy. Reuniting with Divine Styler on production was a no-brainer for the 'San Fernando Valley Rambo' as he explains “Divine Styler was instrumental in the development of the Styles of Beyond sound. So it was a very natural process when working together on this album." The album features Everlast, Divine Styler, Celph Titled, Bishop Lamont, Tak, Gravity Christ and Jams.

"The Greatest X” features appearances and productions from Statik Selektah, Alchemist, Large Professor, Evidence, Nottz, Black Milk, Apollo Brown, Buckwild, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Streetrunner and more. To say Reks took the underground Rap scene by Storm would be an understatement. As over the course of his first decade on the scene se was the definition of consistent. Unleashing three consecutive albums that firmly established him as one of Hip-Hop’s most revered new artists: “Along Came The Chosen”, “Grey Hairs” (primarily produced by Statik Selektah with additional production from DJ Premier & Large Professor), “Rhythmatic Eternal King
Supreme” (which debuted on the Billboard Charts and included production from Statik
Selektah, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Nottz, Sha Money Xl & Sean C & Lv). Rather than resting on his laurels, Reks choose to take his artistic direction and vision in another direction, devoting his time and energy to embark on a new mission working on passion projects. All of which foreshadowed many of the societal ails that we as a country and now fully embroiled in. While Reks’ “The Greatest X” (pronounced as “The Greatest Unknown”) is not a comeback album. It is a return to force for the Boston wordsmith. As he did on his previous stand-out efforts, Reks is back working with the industries elite producers. As he sets out to take the next step in his progression. Reks has already set things in motion with the release of videos for the Streetrunner produced “Hands Up” (Wink Wink), the Nottz produced “The Recipe,” “Jump Shots” (Produced By Buckwild) and “B*Tch Slap” featuring R.A. The Rugged Man, which have all been favorably received.
