Clear Blue Vinyl Edition Gatefold Cover and Brand New Artwork! “Murderock - Uccide a passi di danza” (internationally released as “Murder Rock” is a thriller/horror 1984 film directed by legendary Lucio Fulci about a dance school in which a mysterious murderer kills female students with a long pin. Its soundtrack was entrusted by the producers to Keith Emerson, another incredible artist, a virtuoso keyboardist and composer. In those early 1980s, having temporarily shelved the prog-rock experience of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Keith Emerson launched a solo career that led him to compose a number of soundtracks, including “Inferno” (1980), “Nighthawks” (1981) and, then, “Murderock”: here we have an energetic mix of 80s pop/rock anthems, perfectly in line with the sounds of the time, dressed with baroque and magniloquent arrangements that make the whole result extravagant and eccentric, almost impossible to classify and consequently unique. The most ‘straightforward’ and least extravagant tracks are “Tonight Is The Night”, “Streets To Blame” and “Not So Innocent”, sung by special guests Doreen Chanter and Mike Sheppard. “Murderock” has become a cult title among genre film fans over the years, and is here reissued on the occasion of Black Friday 2023 in a new clear blue vinyl version with gatefold sleeve and audio remastered by Claudio Fuiano. Originally released on white vinyl for Record Store Day 2021, this much sought after soundtrack is now available on a limited run of Transparent Red Vinyl. 2020 saw the release of the critically acclaimed “Audrey”, a documentary film taking an intimate look at Audrey Hepburn’s life with access to never-before-seen footage from her family’s personal collection and produced by the multi award-winning team behind “McQueen” and “Churchill”. The soundtrack was composed by Alex Somers, an American composer and producer who has written and collaborated on soundtracks including “We Bought A Zoo”, “How To Train Your Dragon Trilogy”, “Aloha”, “The Circle”, “Captain Fantastic”, “Shia LaBeouf's Honey Boy” and Taylor Swift's Netflix original documentary “Miss Americana”. His work was first noticed in 2009 with Riceboy Sleeps, his ambient album collaboration with partner Jónsi (Sigur Rós). Following “Riceboy Sleeps”, Alex co-produced Jónsi’s 2010 debut solo album “Go”. He then opened his own recording studio in Reykjavík where he co-produced and mixed Sigur Rós’ 2013 album “Valtari”, and continued to collaborate with artists Jónsi, Julianna Barwick, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Gyða Valtýsdóttir, Damien Rice, Amiina, Sin Fang, Briana Marela. “Audrey Hepburn was such a special person” Says Alex Somers. “It was my goal to tap into what made her such a one-of-a-kind soul and create a melodic and sonic accompaniment for her. Collaborating with Helena was a beautiful and rewarding experience. The music poured out and together we experimented and pushed deeper to tell Audrey’s story; there is music here that is dark and there is music here that is light and uplifting, but the common thread is that it is honest and true to the spark that was Audrey.”

Based on the beloved award-winning DC comics series written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is a rich, character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of ten epic chapters following Dream’s many adventures.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

About the composer:

Born in England, David Buckley's first involvement with film music was as a cathedral choirboy performing on Peter Gabriel’s score for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. He continued his musical education at Cambridge University. In 2006, David moved to Los Angeles where he began collaborating with Harry Gregson-Williams on film scores, including Shrek The Third and Gone Baby Gone. He has written music for films including Wonder Woman, all the Fifty Shades movies, Big Eyes and American Hustle, and his music was featured in David O’Russell’s Joy. David was honored as a ‘Brit to Watch’ by Bafta.

For television, David composed the music for the hit Scott Free/CBS drama series The Good Wife and continues to score the spin-off, now in its sixth season, The Good Fight (for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Title Music).

As well as film and TV, David has written the music for a number of games, including Batman Arkham Knight.

Buckley's soundtrack to THE Sandman is a lush and dynamic composition overflowing with analog synthesizers, full orchestra, sound design, and even usage of ancient instrumentation. It grants each character in the series their own theme, and effectively transports the listener to an otherworldly, dreamlike setting.

Starring Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, and Annarah Symone, The Midnight Club tells the story of a group of eight terminally ill young adults residing at the Brightcliffe Home hospice center. Each night at midnight, they gather in the Brightcliffe library to share scary stories. They have also formed a pact: the first to die from their disease must come back and communicate with them from the other side.

With the score, The Newton Brothers lean on their classic roots of piano, effect pedals, synths, and skillful melody to create a dynamic and haunting composition. The continued sense of dread and fear undercuts the beauty of the music. Though bright orchestral themes highlight the score, the electronic and ghostly arpeggiated sounds create a feeling of tension-building unease.

On a search to uncover the mysterious circumstances surrounding her father’s death, a newly appointed police officer, Jessica Loren (Jessica Sula) is assigned to the last shift in a decommissioned police station where a notoriously vicious cult saw their demise years prior. The lone officer at the station, she soon finds herself barraged by terrifying paranormal events, and in the process, is taken on a journey during which she learns the shocking truth behind her family’s entanglement with a demented cult leader. MALUM takes the premise of the 2014 festival hit and flips it on its head, thrusting viewers into an unrelenting, adrenaline-fueled, bloody cult nightmare.

About the Composer

Samuel Laflamme is a composer who has strengthened projects across the film, television and video game worlds. Samuel Laflamme began his composing career scoring numerous television shows, documentaries, and ad spots across a multitude of genres. He has collaborated with many of the top video game companies in the industry, including Ubisoft, Activision, and Red Barrels where he worked on the critically acclaimed survival horror-game Outlast. Samuel’s other credits include French Canadian dramatic comedy series Le Chalet, along with the 2016 Canadian-American co-production, fantasy film Wait Till Helen Comes, based on Mary Downing Hahn’s best-selling novel from the 1980’s.

About the Director

Protégé of filmmaker/novelist Clive Barker, Anthony DiBlasi partnered in Barker’s production company Seraphim Films for nearly ten years, serving as a key executive & producer on films such as MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN starring Bradley Cooper and BOOK OF BLOOD. DiBlasi adapted and directed DREAD from the Barker short story, starring Laura Donnelly (HBO’s The Nevers) which won "Best Independent Feature" at the Spike Scream Awards. DiBlasi has adapted several Barker novels for the screen including THE DAMNATION GAME (Warner Bros) and THE THIEF OF ALWAYS (Fox).

DiBlasi directed, co-wrote and edited “Last Shift” a critically acclaimed supernatural horror film released by Magnolia Pictures in 2015. Last Shift was named among the top 5 horror films of 2015 and won both a Golden Skull award and an iHorror award. DiBlasi has directed 8 features including the critically acclaimed thriller MISSIONARY and MOST LIKELY TO DIE for Netflix. DiBlasi recently wrapped production on MALUM, an expanded reimagining of “Last Shift,” and is currently in development on the thriller THE STEP COUNTER with his writing partner and wife Natalie Victoria and Malcolm Spellman’s The 51 (The Winter Soldier).

The debut vinyl release of MALUM features the complete soundtrack by composer Samuel Laflamme pressed to 180 gram colored vinyl.

The live record was once considered a staple of an artist’s discography. Captured over two evenings at the historic Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, North Carolina, Who Can See Forever finds Iron & Wine in full flight, working their way through a catalog of songs spanning their twenty- plus-year career. The recordings happened deep into a three-year period by a band of assassins assembled by mainstay Sam Beam that included bassist Sebastian Steinberg (Fiona Apple, Soul Coughing), drummer Beth Goodfellow (Allison Russell, Better Oblivion Community Center), cellist Teddy Rankin-Parker and keyboardist Eliza Hardy-Jones (War on Drugs, Grace Potter). It was a creative period for Beam that rendered two albums (Beast Epic and Weed Garden) and garnered four Grammy nominations.

Barbie the Album is the soundtrack album for the 2023 film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig. It was released by Atlantic Records on July 21, 2023, the same day as the film's North American theatrical release. The album was produced by Mark Ronson, Kevin Weaver, and Brandon Davis. It was met with generally favorable reviews from critics.

The album was promoted by the release of six singles; the album's lead single "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa topped the charts in 10 countries including the UK and Ireland as well as reaching the top ten in 25 countries including the US. The second single was "Angel" by PinkPantheress and the third was "Barbie World", a collaboration by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Aqua, which reached the top ten in 15 territories including the UK and US. A fourth single "Speed Drive" by Charli XCX was a top ten hit in the UK and Ireland. The fifth single "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, and Australia, and entered the top ten in 15 countries. Ava Max's "Choose Your Fighter" was serviced to airplay radio as the album's sixth single on July 28, 2023.

Upon release, the album was met with critical and commercial success. It debuted at number one in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand and reached the top ten in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United States. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the album won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, while four of its songs ("Dance the Night", "Barbie World", "What Was I Made For?", and "I'm Just Ken") received nominations for Best Song Written for Visual Media. "Dance the Night" and "What Was I Made For?" were additionally nominated for Song of the Year and the latter for Record of the Year.

Suite Crude Revue is a rotating cast of outstanding performers committed to an unshackled aesthetic. Produced, composed, and arranged by Daniel Zelonky, this single presents songs for imagined films. “Cowpoke Detox” might be termed “spaghetti jazz”. It’s a strange hybrid of spaghetti western style baritone guitar lines supporting jazz noir harmonies, creating a surreal backdrop for the tale of an unrepentant murderer, who feels regret only in terms of the consequences he’s facing. “Blue Ramen #1” is a lover’s lament, set to what might be termed a “Hollywood samba”: One imagines Los Angeles session players emulating samba for a commercial film, not an authentic Brazilian band. The lush aural environment culminates in a dreamy closing vamp with the impassioned vocal set amid a swirl of improvised trumpet, violin, and piano. This haunting, yet ironic song may well have found its way into the popular consciousness ... if the movie had actually existed! Transversales proudly presents the first LP reissue of “Les granges brûlées”, original soundtrack written and performed by Jean-Michel Jarre shortly after his work experience at G.R.M (Groupe de Recherches Musicales). Probably one the first ever electronic music score, recorded with very scanty means: a Vcs3 synthesizer, a Farsifa organ and three synchronized Revox tape recorders. Director Jean Chapot, who understood immediately the interest in the gap between this hyper classical rural thriller and this groundbreaking music, let Jarre absolutely free to compose. Built up around several melodic leitmotifs, the score of “Les granges brûlées” allowed Jarre to pursue his personal research: to bridge the gap between experimental music and pop music. “La Califfa” (1970) is a very rare example in which the director and author of the book on which the film is inspired coincide; we’re talking about Alberto Bevilacqua, who won the Nastro D’Argento prize as Best New Director with this film. The film deals with the issue of the class struggle, and in particular the love-hate relationship between a businessman (Ugo Tognazzi) and a female worker (Romy Schneider, almost too sensual here) who lost her fiancé at the working place. A romantic and dramatic work, as the music written and orchestrated by Ennio Morricone, here often surrounded by an impressive aura of sacredness. This LP also features, as guests on voices and choirs, Edda Dell’Orso and I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni. Surprisingly, despite the success of the film and its soundtrack received at the time, “La Califfa” has never been reissued on LP since the early ’70s. This new edition on Vinyl Magic record label eventually fills this gap and, except for the front cover image, the artwork has been completely renewed: the inner sleeve contains in fact many reproductions of posters and lobby cards of the film. Various tracks, never released on LP until today, have also been added to the final tracklist.

It took over 30 years and Fuzzbee Morse's unwavering determination to dig out the legendary recordings – and restore them for full audio pleasure! The superb soundscape of Ghoulies II perfectly captures the chilling and wacky essence of the cult movie, as well as its creepy carnival setting. Morse, citing influences such as Bernard Hermann, Frank Zappa, and Igor Stravinsky, flexes his multi-instrumentalist skills, flowing with ease between magical fairground elements (with brilliant use of calliope, tuba, flutes and sparkly sounding synthesizers), dark atmospheres and frightening attacks (tribal percussion, strings, along with dissonant, atonal gongs, bowed cymbals), and goofy moods (bassoon, bass clarinet, glockenspiel, trumpet, clarinet). By now everyone should know, John Carpenter is not only a celebrated filmmaker but also a musical maestro whose soundtracks have become syn - onymous with the genres of horror, suspense, and science fiction. Straight from the original master tapes and remastered on Limited Edition Vinyl LP for the First Time Ever 'ScappoPerCantare' by Giuliano Sorgini is one of the finest titles in his vast production. New cover artwork designed by Eric Adrien Lee.

Another dream coming true! One of Giuliano Sorgini’s finest and most sought-after titles is finally available as an official LP reissue – the first ever – remastered from the original tapes.
Originally released in 1971 on the small library music imprint FAMA, which operated as a sub-label of RCA Italy, the record contains the original music written for Scappo per cantare, a small, pseudo-psychedelic ‘musicarello’ (musical comedy film) broadcast on RAI television and starring, among others, Italian singers Gianni Morandi and Mauro Lusini.
The only credited album artist is Sorgini, but it’s impossible not to perceive, in this record, the hand of his close friend and colleague Alessandro Alessandroni.
This should not come as a surprise. In the early 70s, the two composers and multi-instrumentalists had a fruitful collaboration that saw them, under the monikers Braen (Alessandroni) and Raskovich (Sorgini), produce an abundance of works together, most of which have now gained the recognition they deserve. These include, among others, two 7” singles from their band The Pawnshop, three records in the series Alle sorgenti delle civiltà (Folkmusic), the crime/noir library albums Quarta pagina (Usignolo) and Inchiesta giudiziaria (Octopus Records), as well as the LP Tempo Libero (Panda Records), which was released shortly after the record presented here and in some ways drew rhythmic inspiration from it.
While their collaboration remained unacknowledged on the original release of Scappo per cantare (this was not uncommon at the time, especially in the field of library music), the record sounds perfectly in line with other works composed by Alessandroni in the early 70s, such as Complesso Gisteri’s Mostra Collettiva (co-written with Oronzo De Filippi), or even a landmark album like Spontaneous, where Sorgini contributed to a handful of tracks.
So, yes, the sheer beauty of Scappo per cantare is the result of an incredible synergy between two heavyweights of Italian library music! Airy and sweeping melodies à la Zoo Folle, psychedelia à la Under Pompelmo, and various percussion instruments played by Sorgini seamlessly blend and fuse with elements and touches provided by Alessandroni.
More specifically, we find Alessandroni’s signature, melancholy whistle in “Desolazione”; the peaceful and dreamy sound of his 12-string guitar in “Scogliere” and “Con Amore”; the trademark harmonies of his vocal ensemble Cantori Moderni in the last two tracks mentioned and in “Per cantare”; and his ingenious use of distortion on his Fender Stratocaster in the suspenseful transitions “Concentrazione” and “Fantocci”, as well as in the frantic/hypnotic hippie numbers “Mordente” and “Fendente” (as a side note, it is worth remembering that Alessandroni experimented extensively with distortion in the rock-infused album Underground, co-written with De Filippi and released in 1971 under the moniker Braen’s Machine, probably a reference to British psychedelic band Soft Machine).
The creative relationship between Sorgini and Alessandroni was so symbiotic that it would be useless to try to identify in more detail their respective contributions to the sound of Scappo per cantare. The alchemy between these two musical geniuses is the key to the album’s exquisitely Italian mixture of cheerful lounge, sweet psychedelia and smooth easy listening.
To do justice to the quality of the music, this remastered reissue is enriched by a new artwork by Eric Adrian Lee, who drew inspiration from the psychedelic visual culture of the period in which the album was written and recorded.

As an early patron of the Polish New Wave and a key exponent of the development of conceptual Polish pop music his expansive portfolio has remained commercially unreleased and untravelled (like many of the original socialist era Polish made films) and has yet to find its deserved place next to the work of Ennio Morricone, François de Roubaix and John Barry. Now enhanced by a renewed interest in vintage art house film and a subculture of open minded music collectors many Easter European artists, such as Krzysztof Komeda (Poland), Zdeněk Liška (Czechoslovakia) and now Andrzej Korzyński, have finally begun to earn their place alongside their Central European peers.

About the composer:

Mark Mothersbaugh is a Grammy, Bafta, and Emmy nominated composer, producer, designer, and visual artist whose work has become part of the pop culture consciousness. He started his career as co-creator and front man for the seminal New Wave band Devo. Their Brian Eno/David Bowie-produced debut album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo” was certified Gold before their hit album “Freedom of Choice” went Platinum.

For Cocaine Bear, Mothersbaugh wanted a score that reflected and captured the culture of the ’80s, with a personality that evolved as the decade’s music evolved. “At the beginning of the film, it starts out very pop,” Mothersbaugh says. “But as it goes through it, it gets heavier. The guitars change up from being acoustic and lighter to being distorted and more aggressive and there are synths throughout that provide a pulse that keeps things moving.”

To make it as authentic as possible, Mothersbaugh used the instruments that created some of the most distinctive and memorable sounds of the ’80s music scene. “Once we decided we were going to let it soak a bit in an ’80s sound, I went to the warehouse where I store equipment and my old Devo road cases full of synths,” Mothersbaugh says. “I pulled out old synths that we used on albums in the ’80s and used the same synths and a lot of the same amps and foot pedals.”

Waxwork Records is beyond thrilled to announce the debut vinyl release of Evil Dead Rise Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Stephen McKeon. Written and directed by Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”), the movie stars Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland.

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, Evil Dead Rise tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

Evil Dead Rise is produced by longtime franchise producer Rob Tapert (Ash vs Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell.

About THE Composer

Stephen McKeon has been composing music for film and television for more than 30 years. A highly versatile multi-instrumentalist, he has scored over 100 feature films and numerous award-winning international television drama series and documentaries, including Black Mirror (“Fifteen Million Merits”).

McKeon, an admitted ‘huge horror fan,’ discussed his approach to the film’s soundtrack. “Lee liked the idea of something offscreen laughing and delighting at the suffering and terror of the characters, so I recorded two female vocalists performing 'taunting' sounds and vocal effects.

(Lee) wanted a score that was visceral, immersive and confrontational, while still leaving room for an emotional theme. So, I began to create sounds and textures based on guitar feedback; guitar strings stretching and breaking; strings being ripped with knives and scissors; and many other weird effects. Many of these made it into the score as part of the texture and tapestry. But ultimately, for the signature, we hit upon an idea we called 'the meat grinder.' I spent a week creating lots of sounds using a variety of methods, but eventually, the one that worked was the result of me dragging carving knives along the strings of my beautiful grand piano and then chopping and stretching the audio into something that eventually sounded like a demonic meat grinder being revved up.”

McKeon also recorded various stringed and percussion instruments, “being tortured, broken and slowly dismembered. Then, these recordings were chopped up, bent and stretched before being fed, screaming for mercy, into the score.”

Smith (Leader of The Invaders) Documentary film The Invaders (2022) follows the rise and fall of a militant black power group based in Memphis, TN in the late 1960's, from its creation, to their final negotiations with Martin Luther King Jr. minutes before his assassination. Filmmaker Prichard Smith's striking documentary features all new music composed by the legendary King Khan, which is now being released as a beautiful 18-track double LP featuring contributions from Adan Jodorowsky, Saba Lou (Khan's daughter), Ian Svenonius and more. From full throttle rock tracks to haunting string pieces and propulsive instrumental grooves, these songs also mark a return to the rock world after Khan's adventurous and acclaimed pair of instrumental jazz/soul albums (2003's The Nature of Things and 2020's The Infinite Ones). A handful of these tracks have previously appeared on limited and now out of print 7"s during the filmmaking process, often in alternate versions, but this mark's the first time all of Khan's contributions to The Invaders will be available in one place (and many for the first time). On his musical contributions herein and the film in general Khan waxes: "The Mighty Hannibal taught me an amazing lesson about blindness. When the doctors told him that he would go blind if he didn't take his glaucoma meds he responded simply "Ugh, I've seen enough'"Hannibal then sent me a gospel song he wrote about how lucky he was to have gone blind because he could never judge anyone based on what they looked like - rather it was now by their actions. When he told this to me I decided to do the entire soundtrack "blind. This meant I made the music without seeing the images. Any beautiful synchronicities that would occur between the celluloid and my music would be magical. This simple approach made the film give me shivers upon seeing it completed, a feeling I rarely get these days from films let alone documentaries. I never got to thank Hannibal for his sage advice, but I feel like he guided me in so many ways that he is always above me watching what I do. He taught me to be a better father and husband and listener. The struggle of the Invaders never ended, in the same way the hidden agenda of fascists is still very strong and we see hints of it in every police commissioner or government official that wishes death upon the poor huddled masses rather than trying to help them have simple basic human rights. He continues: "The Invaders film is not just a documentary it's a hard core lesson to all activists to put in the work and find out what every community needs, addressing these individual needs and simply caring for the wounds that rot when ignored. Before you wallow in self pity and misery, take a deep breath and learn to breathe. Just a simple act of inhalation and exhalation is what brings us back to reality and calms our nerves and prepares us for the task at hand. Never forget what Malcolm said... Herdís interned for the Oscar nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannssonin Berlin while he was working on the film Arrival (2016) and she has scored numerous short films that have premiered at top-tier festivals around the world like Berlinale, Tiff, Sundance and Palm Springs International Film Festival. Herdís releases and produces her solo work under artist name Kongulo, she is currently working on her first record. Previous art projects include electro-pop duo East of My Youth. East of My Youth’s music has been described as sensual and addictive as getting your tongue frozen to a glacier of pure honey (jajajamusic). The music of "Blue Giant" was composed by pianist Hiromi Uehara, who has been highly acclaimed for her "manga that you can hear the sound of. The original music (first Note, N.E.W., WE Will) and end-roll music (Blue Giant) for the trio "jass" formed by the main character, Dai Miyamoto, and his friends were also written for this film.

The saxophone player for Dai Miyamoto, who aspires to be the best jazz player in the world, is Tomoaki Baba, who was unanimously selected in an audition of leading players from Japan and abroad. Shunji Tamada, who was a high school classmate of Dai from Sendai, plays drums, and Shun Ishiwaka, who is also a member of millennium parade, joins him at the love call of Hiromi Uehara. And Hiromi Uehara plays the piano for the pianist Yukinori Sawabe, whom Dai meets in Tokyo.

Top musicians from the classical to jazz worlds, including string members of "Hiromi Uehara the Piano Quintet," also participated in the recording of the film's accompaniment music and band performances.

The Sentinel is a 1977 American supernatural Horror film directed by Michael Winner (Death Wish, Death Wish II). The plot focuses on a young model (Cristina Raines) that moves into a historic Brooklyn brownstone that has been sectioned into apartments, only to find out that the building is owned by the Catholic diocese and is a gateway to Hell. The film features early acting roles by several now-household-name actors such as Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, and John Carradine.

Following a string of supernatural Horror films such as Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, and The Omen, The Sentinel is based off the 1974 novel of the same name by Jeffrey Konvitz. Unlike other films of its time dealing in topics of the occult, The Sentinel features strong visuals and depictions of creatures from Hell as they appear in the works of Dante's Inferno, Christopher Marlowe, and the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks and inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.

About the composer:

Mark Mothersbaugh is a Grammy, Bafta, and Emmy nominated composer, producer, designer, and visual artist whose work has become part of the pop culture consciousness. He started his career as co-creator and front man for the seminal New Wave band Devo. Their Brian Eno/David Bowie-produced debut album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo” was certified Gold before their hit album “Freedom of Choice” went Platinum.

For Cocaine Bear, Mothersbaugh wanted a score that reflected and captured the culture of the ’80s, with a personality that evolved as the decade’s music evolved. “At the beginning of the film, it starts out very pop,” Mothersbaugh says. “But as it goes through it, it gets heavier. The guitars change up from being acoustic and lighter to being distorted and more aggressive and there are synths throughout that provide a pulse that keeps things moving.”

To make it as authentic as possible, Mothersbaugh used the instruments that created some of the most distinctive and memorable sounds of the ’80s music scene. “Once we decided we were going to let it soak a bit in an ’80s sound, I went to the warehouse where I store equipment and my old Devo road cases full of synths,” Mothersbaugh says. “I pulled out old synths that we used on albums in the ’80s and used the same synths and a lot of the same amps and foot pedals.”

About the composer:

Bafta-nominated composer Anthony Willis has taken a running leap into the Neverland of film scoring, quickly becoming one of the most highly sought after new voices in Hollywood. Anthony composed the score to Oscar-winning writer/director Emerald Fennell’s drama thriller Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan, which was nominated for Best Picture and earned Anthony a Bafta nomination for Best Original Score.

Willis grew up in London and began his musical training as a chorister of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. He went on to study Composition at Marlborough College, Wilshire and the University of Bristol, before earning his graduate degree from the University of Southern California. He currently resides in Venice Beach.

Icelandic composer Högni"s score for the much-acclaimed Netflix"s series Katla will see its full release on July 28. The series takes place in Iceland, after the subglacial volcano Katla has been erupting constantly for a whole year, Gríma is still looking for her missing sister who disappeared the day the eruption started. As her hope of ever finding her body is fading, the residents of the surrounding area start to have visits from unexpected guests. There might be something hidden under the glacier no one could ever have foreseen. Speaking about the score, Högni says: "when I was asked by Baltasar [Kormákur] - the director and show creator - I started writing so when the filming was finished, I had already written a number of pieces for the show. As relatively in-experienced in the field I imagined that my work was finished and the rest was a matter of post-production and music editing. However it immediately became clear that my ambitions and the nature of the project called for second, third and fourth wind in order to fulfil the auditory architecture that needed to be built". Realising it was a monumental task, Högni kept a strict schedule every day, starting by writing and arranging in the morning, recording and mixing in the afternoon and presenting to the producer each evening. The score was recorded in Högni"s own studio, where him and his collaborators consisting of Tóti Gudnason, Inga Magnes, Petter Ekman, _órunn Osk and Sigurgeir found themselves working in a completely different way than they"ve done before, due to the nature of the project - "we worked the music out of my studio in Reykjavik, where a healthy number of musicians rotated through at the pace of an average ice cream parlour on a long summers evening in Reykjavik. The urgency of delivering cues and material left one in the state of instinctual execution at all hours without hesitation".

The world doesn‘t offer much cause for hope right now: after the pandemic follows a war in the middle of europe, climate catastrophe is looming, and many of us are falling into a vague sadness. Daschenka Project sets a counterbalance to this contemporary melancholy: the groovy, earthy music creates fertile ground for lightness, on which Dascha Lüscher talks in a charismatic, warm voice about the things in life that we all encounter: about rampant consumerism and self-optimization, about secret desires and hide-and-seek, of pointless conflicts that lead nowhere, of hardened fronts and the desire for more harmony, in short: of injury and healing, of pain and pleasure. “Metti, una sera a cena” is a 1969 movie directed by Joseph Patrons Griffi, made up from an eponymous theater script and especially transposed to the film medium. It immediately obtained consents and success, and paved the road to success for actors Florinda Bolkan and Tony Musante in particular. So did the music written by Ennio Morricone, who in 1970 won the Nastro D’Argento Award for Best Score. Lounge sounds, bossa nova, jazz (especially the drums touch) and beat (usually still in vogue in the Italy of the late ’60s), seasoned with orchestral arrangements conducted by Bruno Nicolai, merge here to one of the most famous soundtracks of the Italian Maestro. A perfect mix of eroticism and melancholy, for a real classic! This edition offers the original soundtrack released in 1969 on Cinevox Record in a new artwork, a gatefold cover and colored vinyl. A bonus track is also included, the song “Hurry to me” sung by The Sandpipers, a folk/pop trio who became famous at the time for their version of the popular “Guantanamera”.

This soundtrack is one of many Cinevox Record rarities, this time brought forth over 50 years ago by the genius of Ennio Morricone, in the heyday of Italian underground cinema, years when true masterpieces were made, often innovative from various points of view (plot, photography, colors, settings, screenplay...). "4 Mosche di Velluto Grigio" (4 Flies on Grey Velvet) ends the so-called 'animal trilogy' by Dario Argento, and sees the director in an absolutely inspired moment, yet probably unconscious that he'll leave an indelible mark in the history of world cinema with his following works. This movie, for some reasons, was never officially released on videotape - apart, perhaps, in an obscure French edition - and only recently has finally been issued on optical disc, while from the soundtrack only released a 45rpm single was pressed at the time, before it was fully recovered in the '90s. In "4 Flies ..." Morricone wrote one of his most 'rock-oriented' soundtracks - without of course neglecting his indelible touch - also thanks to the fact that the protagonist of the film is a rock drummer. You hear echoes of Deep Purple, not surprisingly given that Argento wanted them as the first authors of the movie score, and it is no coincidence that his most famous film is titled... Deep Red!

Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope.

The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

NOPE marks Abels’ third feature film score with director Jordan Peele, having previously scored Peele’s GET OUT and US. The album also features songs from the film, including a new version of Corey Hart’s classic “Sunglasses at Night (Jean Jacket Mix)”, Dionne Warwick’s “Walk on By”, The Lost Generation’s “This is the Lost Generation”, Exuma’s “Exuma, the Obeah Man”, and a never-before-released gem by a young Jodie Foster, “La Vie C’est Chouette” from the 1977 film MOI, FLEUR BLEUE. “NOPE is my most ambitious score to date,” says Abels. “There are elements from the genres of sci-fi, action, horror, and westerns, but always through the tonal palette of Jordan Peele’s unique vision. The lines between source music and score are blurred, as a good part of the score seems to be playing at the theme park, which is a key location in the story. The score is at times terrifying, yet also invokes the sense of awe and wonder that the characters feel as they realize what they are seeing. The film eventually becomes a grand adventure, and so the music expands into the larger-than-life scale we expect of a summer blockbuster.” He goes on to say, “it was a joy to compose a score that encompassed such a broad range of genres and emotions, and I’m thrilled to have audiences experience all of them through this album.”

“Michael is one the most exciting composers working today - he has this amazing ability to create new sounds which was important for this film,” Jordan Peele says. “He's able to play in the familiar and in the unfamiliar at the same time, so that helps give every film its own character, and he has an incredible mastery of so many different music genres.” Abels is known for his genre-defying scores for the Jordan Peele films GET OUT and US, for which Abels won a World Soundtrack Award, the Jerry Goldsmith Award, a Critics Choice nomination, and multiple critics’ awards. The hip-hop influenced score for US was short-listed for an Academy Award® and was named “Score of the Decade” by The Wrap. Abels is also co-founder of the Composers Diversity Collective, an advocacy group to increase visibility of composers of color in film, gaming and streaming media.

Bollywood rarities handpicked and remastered on a double LP release with laminate gatefold and multi-layered flower petal foldout. Featuring rare, overlooked or not-previously-on-vinyl music from Bappi Lahiri, R. D. Burman, Ilaiyaraaja, Kalyanji-Anandji, Anand Milind, Raamlaxman and Kirti Anuraag released between 1982 and 1986. Mastered for and cut to vinyl by multi Grammynominated Frank Merritt at his mastering studio The Carvery. Naya Beat is incredibly proud to present the first in our series of ‘Awaaz’ (‘sound’ in Hindi) archival projects focused on uncovering the sounds of 1980s Bollywood Original Soundtrack Recordings (OSTs). Series 1 focuses exclusively on the musical output of CBS Gramophone Records & Tapes (India) Ltd. Active during India’s peak disco era – a time when synthesisers and drum machines became a mainstay in Indian popular music – CBS India became a home for established composers to be experimental, up-and-coming composers to get their start, B-movie soundtracks, and straight-to-VHS releases. Expertly curated by Naya Beat co-founders Turbotito and Ragz, who were given unprecedented access to the original label archives, this compilation is not just a collection of four-to-the-floor Bollywood disco (although there are plenty of those). ‘Awaaz’ is designed to take listeners on a musical journey that includes everything from leftfield electronic and mood music to outrageous proto house. Be it classic and hard to find cuts like Ilaiyaraaja's "Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le" and “Mere Jaisi Mehbooba” (Bappi Lahiri’s Hindi remake of Herbie Hancock's “Rockit”), or the instrumental mood music of Kirti Anuraag’s VHS movie soundtracks, to the proto house of Raamlaxman’s “Dil Gadbad Jhala” and Kalyanji-Anandji’s “Aage Bhi Dushman,” or the synth and guitar drenched breakdance madness of R. D. Burman’s “Dekho Idhar Jano Jigar,” the music on this compilation captures the output of a label that was unique as it was unconventional. An homage to the genre, every detail in this stunning release has been lovingly crafted. From the laminate cover to the absolutely incredible foldout, to the cut-out and collage design, to the font type and layout, there are countless authentic details and nods to classic Bollywood releases of the era. As much of the album has been made in India as is possible. The sleeves have been handmade in New Delhi. The liner notes have been compiled by music archivist Nishant Mittal (aka Digging In India).

Select Records is proud to present the 30th anniversary edition of this 1993 comedy classic by The Jerky Boys, on deluxe colored vinyl with a limited OBI strip. Hailing from Queens, New York, childhood friends Johnny Brennan and Kamal Ahmed collaborated on a series of prank telephone calls that eventually circulated in classic grassroots fashion (before being “viral” was a thing), travelling from teenager to teenager via cassette dub after cassette dub. The duo’s work eventually earned legendary status among those lucky enough to get their hands on it. When the compilation of calls was finally officially released via Select Records, who were mostly known for their hip-hop acts ranging from Kid n Play to AMG, it reached #1 on Billboard's Heatseekers list by amazingly bumping Radiohead's Pablo Honey, which coincidentally took its title from a Jerky Boys sketch, out of the top spot. What followed was a few more platinum albums, a hilarious movie, and a legion of lifetime fans that can repeat these prank calls verbatim, even 30 years later. The Jerky Boys created a true movement, and inspired an entire generation of improvisational prank-style comedians. Re-live the hilarity now with the deluxe vinyl pressing!

Taken from the 1993 movie directed by Pupi Avati. Riziero Ortolani (25 March 1926 – 23 January 2014) was an Italian composer, conductor, and orchestrator, predominantly of film scores. He scored over 200 films and television programs between 1955 and 2014, with a career spanning over fifty years. Internationally, he is best known for his genre scores, notably his music for mondo, giallo, horror, and Spaghetti Western films. His most famous composition is "More," which he wrote for the infamous film Mondo Cane. It won the 1964 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Theme and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 36th Academy Awards.[3] The song was later covered by Frank Sinatra, Kai Winding, Andy Williams, Roy Orbison, and others. Ortolani received many other accolades, including four David di Donatello Awards, three Nastro d'Argento Awards, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. In 2013, he received a Lifetime Achievement from the World Soundtrack Academy. In the early 1950s, Ortolani was founder and member of a well-known Italian jazz band. One of his early film scores was for Paolo Cavara and Gualtiero Jacopetti's 1962 pseudo-documentary Mondo Cane, whose main title-song More earned him a Grammy and was also nominated for an Oscar as Best Song. The success of the soundtrack of Mondo Cane led Ortolani to score films in England and the United States such as The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1964), The Spy with a Cold Nose (1966), The Biggest Bundle of Them All (1968) and Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968). He also scored the 1972 film The Valachi Papers, directed by Terence Young and starring Charles Bronson. Ortolani scored all or parts of over 200 films, including German westerns like Old Shatterhand (1964) and a long series of Italian giallos, Spaghetti Westerns, Eurospy films, Exploitation films and mondo films. These include Il Sorpasso (1962), Castle of Blood (1964), Africa Addio (1966), Day of Anger (1967), Anzio (1968), The McKenzie Break (1970), The Hunting Party (1971), A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die (1972), Seven Blood-Stained Orchids (1972), The Fifth Musketeer (1979), From Hell to Victory (1979), the controversial Ruggero Deodato films Cannibal Holocaust (1980) and The House on the Edge of the Park (1980), and the first series of La piovra (1984). In later years he scored many films for Italian director Pupi Avati. His music was used on soundtracks for Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 (1999), Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), Drive (2011) and Django Unchained (2012).

This is a record of rare beauty that collects the soundtrack of a 1975 film called "Drugged Rome: the Police Can't Intervene" (in English "Hallucination Strip") directed by Lucio Marcaccini. The soundtrack was written by Alber Verrecchia, a French composer (but I presume originally from Italy) who came to Italy in the 1960s and formed the group I Pyranas, with whom he recorded two albums released by Arc. In the 1970s Verrecchia devoted himself mainly to making soundtracks, including the one presented here. Unlike other soundtrack composers, Verrecchia preferred electric sounds to orchestral arrangements. This disc contains interesting tracks in rock and blues styles, with some psychedelic influences. Musicians featured on the record include Cyan, Baba Yaga, Toni Esposito, and singer Sammy Barbot (whom we may remember best as the host of two 1980s TV shows, Piccolo Slam and Popcorn). The Cyans are an old acquaintance of ours, who are credited with a 33 rpm in 1972 and a handful of singles; Le Baba Yaga were a female trio who made a single in 1972; and finally Toni Esposito who needs no introduction. Singer Edda Dell'Orso, with her soprano voice, also appears on two tracks. In short, a unique record in the panorama of soundtracks

Chopping Mall is a 1986 American horror film co-written and directed by Jim Wynorski, produced by Julie Corman, and starring Kelli Maroney, Mary Woronov, and Barbara Crampton. It focuses on three high-tech security robots turning maniacal and killing partying teenage employees inside a shopping mall after dark.

Chuck Cirino is an American composer with over 75 feature length projects to his credit including including film, TV, and web. Known for an energetic and experimental approach and his usage of electronics and synthesizers, Cirino's soundtrack to Chopping Mall remains a cult classic.
