Few bands emerged as fully formed as Weezer, the Southern California band that would quickly shake the world with its reimagined vision of rock 'n' roll. With 17 million albums sold worldwide, and two LPs on Rolling Stone's list of most influential ever made, the L.A. quartet helmed by singer-guitarist Rivers Cuomo proved to be as popular as they are pioneering. Weezer's music continues to shape the sound of rock to this day, well after the release of its first album, the triple-platinum Weezer (The Blue Album), one of rock's most auspicious debuts.
The quartet's incredible run of Geffen Records releases is reissued on standard 140-gram vinyl. The records helped redefine the genre, mixing guitar hooks with a sense of geek-smart humor that radiated into the band's popular live act and multitude of cutting-edge videos and visuals.

Nada Surf are an American alternative rock band formed in the 1990s in New York. 'High/Low' is their debut studio album, released in 1996 to positive reviews. All tracks were written by frontman Matthew Caws and bassist Daniel Lorca. Combining indie punk with grunge, emo and even pop, 'High/Low' is a record full of high quality riffs and catchy melodies. It contains the smash hit single 'Popular', which reached the top 10 in several countries and remains a classic song among fans of alternative music. 'High/Low' is available on black vinyl.

The Catheters are a scourge on pretty boy rock 'n' roll, a festering wound in the ear of all things delicate, a hot razor blade slashing through tight knots of control. You grew up on the Germs and The Pagans, took a left turn into Pere Ubu, Electric Eels, and Pussy Galore, and injected '60s garage-psyche like The Yardbirds, Blue Cheer, and Love into your veins at a young age. The Catheters are your catharsis for maniacal living. This is the Seattle band's third full-length of pent-up brawlers, and they're still radiating the same dark, perilous edge - working once again with respected producer John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Unwound, Blonde Redhead) - only now they've coaxed out new textures to coarsen the mix. Howling_ is alive, feral and twitching with energy.

Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. This is complicated, and largely made up, so pay attention. Joe Pernice is a recording artist, who, once upon a time, had a multi-dollar deal with Sub Pop as a member of the bands SCUD MOUNTAIN BOYS and THE PERNICE BROTHERS. This was before you were born. After a mutual parting of the ways between label and artist, he started his own record label and continued to record under various noms de plume. He also became a novelist, and his first novel, "It Feels So Good When I Stop" will be published by Riverhead Books in August 2009. In said book, the narrator, who is not Joe, is in a band called THE YOUNG ACCUSER for a short time. After the fictional narrator leaves this fictional band, they record a fictional song called "Black Smoke (No Pope)" and send it to the non-fictional Sub Pop. This is the non-fiction version of that fictional single. Of interest may be the fact that a cover of an even earlier, more fictional "Black Smoke (No Pope)" was recorded by the non-fictional Joe Pernice and appears on the non-fictional companion CD to his novel. That CD is called "It Feels So Good When I Stop (Soundtrack)" and it will be released on his Ashmont Records, also in August 2009.

before michael yonkers would revise the history of recorded music with the clarion chords of microminiature love, he was in a band called michael and the mumbles, and they made this self-titled LP in 1966. in the premiere spin, their would-be debut comes off as a naive, teenage trip thru the typified garage band moves of this era. but repeated listening reveals a darkness beneath what some dullard might be deceived by as it's crisp, winsome visage. it's only to a slightly less visible degree that the mumbles LP has the same characteristics that would make micro the singularly original piece that is; it's emotionally bleak themes, dissonant undercurrents, and recklessly wild performance. so, once again we have a michael yonkers LP that is going to turn yr world upside down, make the college girls scream and leave you wondering how many more times this can happen. seriously, pigeon falls up here looked like a riot on the sunset strip. indulge yrself. ps. michael and the mumbles is on the king of all known formats (with a digital download coupon, natch) only, the mastertapes used herein are 45 yrs old and aside from the glitch on "cold town", they sound as good as they could and yr not going to have any trouble embracing their magic.
