The second selection from Toko's 2021 collection again sees label mainstay Si Brad man the controls on the sublime and soulful 'Avenue 6 (Is This Real Life?)'. Incorporating the crisp rhythms, heavyweight subs & swelling pads which are such a Toko trademark, Brad brings the bliss to this sensual house heater, enlisting Azeem's emotive vocal tones for an extra helping of soul.

The label enlist hometown hero Crooked Man for the B side business here, and the Techno hero obliges with a pair of ferocious speaker tweaking reshapes.

Dark and cavernous, the 'Real Crooked' mix combines wall shaking bass, jacking drums and bloodless riffs into a smoke and strobe stomper, repurposing Azeem's vocal as a haunting refrain. The dance floor paranoia continues on the 'Crooked Girl, Crooked Boy' mix, a sparse and dissociative take on the original equipped with demented dub FX and some serious bass weight.

A catchy and little bit glittering house gem by long time DJ, producer, party-organizer, clubowner and Compost artist Shahrokh Dini, who teams up with the very young talented singer Mox. Two top notch remixes by well-known Musumeci and Sirs (Daniel Klein) complete the package.

Shahrokh Dini - formerly known as Shahrokh Sound of K - has made himself known as a DJ since the early 90s. His DJ sets move with the class of an experienced performer seamlessly deep house but a travel to Detroit and via Disco back to modern-day vibes, as a whole always reminiscent of soulful and deep roots but with refreshingly contemporary facets. He likened to a chameleon by fellow musical peer! Shahrokh Dini’s productions and DJ live sets are made of the right stern to snowball dance floors worldwide and fill them with epic moments. He regularly plays every summer various Ibiza venues and also has Berlin residencies. His releases on various labels like Sasse’s Moodmusic, Miss Moneypenny Records, Strictly Rhythm, Ministry Of Sound, Caus-N-Effect, and of course on Compost Black Label, were supported by Âme, Ron Trent, Jimpster, Dimitri From Paris, Rainer Trueby, Laurent Garnier, Boo Williams, Glenn Underground, Solomun, Frankey & Sandrino, Agoria, Olderic, Maceo Plex, Steve Bug etc.. He did remixes for Automat, Mateo & Matos, Robert Owens, Marbert Rocel, Bar, Simon Flower, Vanessa Daou, Tomasz Guiddo, Niki Harris (Madonna’s background singer), Gloria Gaynor and others. Shahrokh further worked with international talents such as Robert Owens, Tikiman (Basic Channel-Detroit), Barbara Tucker, Nathan McLau und Jaime Lloyd from the label Future Classic. For his album "Dripping Point", he got great and massive commendation in magazines like De:Bug, Groove, Raveline, Xlr8r, DJMag a.o.

By the way, Shahrokh Dini is not only a house producer and DJ, he is running clubs since the mid 90ies, he frequently promotes bigger club-music events, he has various DJ residencies, and his own club called „Monk“ in his hometown Karlsruhe. In the past he engaged artists such as Metro Area, Kevin Saunderson and Âme for various events for the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe ZKM, the latter proving his nose for talent as he had sourced them as residents at “Electric Mood” already in their early years. Adding to that Shahrokh now curates and runs the after party of the massive art fair "Art Karlsruhe" in collaboration with the State Theater once a year.

For the 25 years Compost Records anniversary box-set, the maestros Delano Smith and Boo Williams delivered each superb remixes for Shahrokh’s older Compost tracks: “Owl Flight” and “Perfect Stranger” featuring Robert Owens.

With this style he is still building bridges between the founders and the following generations of electronic music lovers. The two distinctive tracks featured on this Slices Of Life release perfectly represent Losoul’s years of experiences in producing, technical developments and worldwide touring as DJ. Proving once again his particular skills and laid-back attitude yet sounding fresh and thrilling at the same time.

“Ghost Talk” is reminiscent of Losoul’s driving minimal productions of the ‘90s with its trippy atmosphere and spooky morphing voices. “Idealist Jungle” on the B-side leads us into a green, sweaty twilight zone, accompanied by continuously rolling beats and warm basslines.

Originally released in 1998 this classic, stripped back, funked up workout from the mysteriously monikered Jean Caffeine (aka The Freaks' Luke Solomon) is a true underground UK House classic. Raw garage-esque drums drive the title cut 'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards', the track skips along while these soul drenched creeping synth melodies and pads completely wash over us and engulf our senses... then, out of nowhere that wigged out bassline appears and we're locked in to a truly sublime groove that won't stop! Over on the flip we are treated to the subdued mellow groove of 'Jean's Train Of Thought', again crazy raw drum programming is accompanied by a sophisticated, bleepy jazzy feeling that goes super deep. The EP finisher 'Jean's Afterthought' carries on the minimal funk vibe of the rest of the EP - lean, driving drums, filtered loops and creeping synth sounds that weave in and out of the mix creating a mildly hallucinatory feel that is present throughout all 3 tracks. This limited vinyl-only and single-sided 12" gem of a jam by Tetzlaff, an originally well-kept secret Rico Puestel project from 1995, had it coming for over 20 years now. The mystical inscription "Angliziskuss" appeared on the original audio tape cassette as well as the magnetic tape that carried several drum machine and bass guitar recordings from the mid and late 1990s until the early 2000s - totally forgotten until they emerged in 2011 when everything slowly started coming together. "Angliziskuss" is a combination of the German word for "Anglicism" (vocabulary borrowed from English from another language) and "kiss", like one language kisses the other one throughout some kind of symbiotic and overriding act. That initial naming gave a deeper meaning to the whole development of the production and triggered the gathering of all creative amendments to the track over the years that led to one final and closing addition to it about seven years ago: The dynamic meeting of an infamous, emotionally charged English vocal snippet and its more rational counterpoint German translation, delivering a subtle tension overall and within. All embedded into one charming housier journey of over 14 minutes, the „Angliziskuss“ establishes an unique recipe of balearic-like piano playings, a disco-and-funk-styled live bass guitar theme, both futuristic and nostalgic synth lines based on one unadulterated 1980s drum machine foundation.

Kenny Dope and Louie Vega's Nu-Yorican Soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of NYC throughout the 1990's, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as DJ's in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
