AsOne² introduces the addition of Catherine Siofra Prendergast to the As One line-up after a series of successful live shows together with Kirk Degiorgio. The live duo entered the studio to focus on adding a melodic sensibility to the harmonic structure of the existing AsOne sound. The resulting album once again finds it perfect home with the Belgian record label De:tuned.

Following on the heels of the teaser EP featuring the duo's acclaimed 'Descent Module' - AsOne² is a blend of vintage, warm analog gooeyness and pristine post-modern production techniques. Prendergast's melodic additions veers the AsOne sound towards a more accessible arena without compromising on the core AsOne sonic signature. Yearning chords, sparkling lead lines, bubbling funk basslines and ethereal ambient washes merge to form a coherent whole in this new advance in the development of AsOne - now in its 30th year.

Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis and pressed on 180 gr vinyl. A separate digital release will also be available at the usual digital shops. Stay tuned!

Donato Dozzy, Marco Shuttle and Ultrastation are among the names on these great remix package on the trustworthy SoHaSo label. After two well received EP's -Laren and Zl2- Bas Dobbelaer and Vand asked a few like-minded spirits to reset the dials of some of their best work. With their melancholic, melodic and highly detailed techno-infused productions, the two Dutch producers carved a name for themselves over the last four years. Italian producer Donato Dozzy takes Transit (a track from 2019) into a lush, green forrest. Where dew water is still dripping from the trees while string-like melodies slowly swirl around them. Beautiful stuff. Gal Tsadok-Hai takes a similar path, though his take on Gateway to Gaia is a bit gloomier. Dusk is setting in and so is melancholia. Same goes for Marco Shuttles version of Reflect, a track from 2021. The London-based Italian producer left out kickdrums and basslines, settling instead for a feverish percussion-infused meditation. Once on the flipside, the club vibe truly kicks in. With a minimalist, bassline heavy remix by Shoal of Story of Blade and an equally effective techno remake from Ultrastation, who turns Runner into a hypnotic peak time monster.

“It’s difficult to distill the record down to a cohesive idea, because it’s served as a journal for the last 3 years of our lives, but it’s generally an exploration of the different worlds within America. I (Brandon) write most of the lyrics, and as a military kid I moved around a ton. I grew up mostly in a deeply suburban town called Lakewood in Colorado, and eventually moved to the greatest city on earth (New York) where we currently live.

About 50% of the record is an ode to (American) suburban malaise, the pure boredom and sheer sense that life is absolutely pointless and generally grueling. The sports games, the binge drinking, the standardization of everything, the long drives, the fabricated dramas. There’s a sort of simmering to life there, punctuated by the occasional horrifically violent event via overdoses, car crashes, or shootings, and many of the songs are written about those punctuations.

Another 25% is about love, we’ve felt it, you’ve felt it, it’s fun to write about. Generally our songs take a melancholic/fatalistic view of love: the inevitability of its fading, the fear of giving yourself up, the twin shadow of pain within every moment of pleasure.

The rest of it is about life in New York, a city of dreams, propped up by its own legend and its inhabitants desire to transcend beyond themselves and their hometowns. This part is about obsession with success and accumulation, obsession with the unhindered Ego, and its parallels to a broader American capitalism. Like America itself, it is a place with breathtaking highs and humiliating lows; endlessly stimulating yet empty of principle."

"How do you transfer a state of the art Pro-Tools recording, with a zillion different tracks, on to a piece of plastic and generate sonic greatness?" With lockdown, Opeth's mastermind Mikael Akerfeldt finally found the time to unite 'a team of musical nerds', as he describes it, to ponder over the question, how they could produce a master of 'In Cauda Venenum' that sounds as surpreme as Akerfeldt's favourite records from the past? After heated discussions and trying out many different methods that never seemed to fully please the Swedish master's ear, they transferred the album to magnetic tape and then cut the vinyl lacquers from the tape itself, to create a warm, powerful and yet dynamic master that will now see the light of day in form of their "Connoisseur Edition" This boxset contains the 180g gatefold 2LP of the Swedish and English versions of Opeth's legendary latest album "In Cauda Venenum" with new illustrations by internationally renowned Travis Smith in the booklet, and an artprint certificate. In addition, there is also a third vinyl EP in a sleeve, including 3 previously unreleased bonus tracks, both in English and Swedish: "Pöbeln" / "The Mob", "Cirkelns Riktning" / "Width of a Circle" as well as "Frihet & Tyranni" / "Freedom & Tyranny". The historical origins of cumbia in Colombia are nebulous and imprecise. The mythology surrounding it suggests an ancient past when Amerindian, African and European musical sounds were mixed together.The main record companies in Colombia such as Discos Fuentes, Discos Tropical, Sonolux, Zeida-Codiscos, Silver, Ondina, Discos Atlantic, Vergara and Curro were created between Barranquilla, Medellín, Cartagena and Bogotá from 1936 to 1954. Banana Club is without doubt one of the top new labels on the Breakbeat scene today. Led by the young and highly prolific Cadiz artist, Fm-3, it was set up in 2020 with a strong identity and powerful, effective dancefloor grooves inspired by English bassline and 2step/garage and a touch of funk.

On this first vinyl release by the label, entitled Funky Beats, Fm-3 kicks off his musical discourse with One for Me, a track which showcases the characteristic quality and forcefulness of his groove. This is followed by the album eponymous track Funky Beats, a collaboration with the multiple Spanish and World Scratching Champion, Jose Rodriguez, who dazzles with a number of superb passages in which improvisation and funk come to the fore.

The B-side opens with Panorama, featuring Orak. This fascinating, highly-experimental track offers a fusion of breaks and tech house and an elegant acid line which acts as a common thread and brings cohesion to the whole idea. The record closes, as you would expect, with a collaboration with Bowser, another of the label regular artists, entitled Bubbling.

A classic bassline dancefloor filler, it will take you back to the best tracks of the late nineties and early noughties. The classic black 12", mastered and cut by Simon, a veteran sound engineer at the Exchange Vinyl in London, has achieved a sound which is quite simply brutal.
