Through her work, Ayewa illuminates the principles of her multidisciplinary collaborative practice Black Quantum Futurism, a theoretical framework for perceiving and adjusting reality through art, writing, music, and performance, informed by historical Black ontologies.The songwriter, composer, vocalist, poet, and educator Camae Ayewa spent years organizing and performing in Philadelphia"s underground music community before moving to Los Angeles to teach composition at the University of Southern California"s Thornton School of Music. She released her debut album as Moor Mother, Fetish Bones, in 2016, and has since put out an abundance of acclaimed music, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians who share her drive to dig up the untold. She has performed and recorded with the free jazz groups Irreversible Entanglements and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and made records with billy woods, Mental Jewelry, and YATTA.

Back in 2013 we took ourselves on a discographic adventure without really knowing what we were doing! Who would have thought that 10 years later, we'd be releasing our 50th 45 RPM record?
As luck would have it, we are happy to announce our new release, in collab with one of the flagship bands from today's funk scene, Germany's own "Mighty Mocambos", who have been delivering their instrumental groove and Caribbean vibes via their alter ego, "Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band" across Europe for more than fifteen years.
So, what better way to immortalize the raw and intense live sound that they're famous for than releasing a record on our favourite format?
Two sides recorded live on tape during the "Queen 16 B-Girl battle" in Berlin in 2022. Somewhat reminiscent of Can's "Vitamin C", the A side "International Cypher" has an oriental funk feel thanks to the use of the sharp sound of an electric Phin (Thai guitar), while thestraight up percussive funk instrumental "Queen 16 theme" pays tribute to the B-Girls onlyfestival, of which the soundtrackwas designed for the occasion.

Sometimes it is meant to be. I remember years ago Ian Wright (a notorious 45s collector, not a footballer) played me Marion Javius, it was about $1 at the time. I really love the record, but the "sshumwere" vocal in the chorus and the cha cha at the end of the bars did my head it a little.

Roll on 15 years and I was speaking to my record fiend and friend David Haffner who helps with releases on Aotn. It turned out he had been sitting on the multi-track tapes for Marion Javius for some time and was cool with us doing a 45. Having multi-track was an opportunity for me to fix the little bug bears with the OG mix. On first listen, I was delighted to hear a vocal take without the "Shamwooon" on the chorus, so myself and Linkwood got on the case to rebuild an Ecla version without the Game Show bar ends and "Shamons" that had been haunting me for years.

So here we are, the Ecla version, with the OG on the flip in case you think I'm talking rubbish.

Hot Spot" is the only album released by Chicago funk band Royal Flush on a local Texas label called Lucky in 1980. It was later released on GEC, the label of former Shy Lights producer Clarence Johnston, who also worked with The Imaginations, Heaven And Earth and many artists. Although it may not be so famous even among funk music fans, it is an underrated album which has traditional funk sound and good qualities that sometimes even approaches that of P-Funk. The original vinyl copies of this album are now scarce and sell for much higher prices in the used market than when P-vine released the CD in 1994. We are very proud to be the first in the world to reissue this album on vinyl!

Death Is Not The End sub-label 333 turns up the gold again with this repro of the much in-demand Flames cut of Nairobi Sisters' Promised Land. Sampled by Q-Tip for "Whateva Will Be" (appearing on ATCQ's final long-player) and on a range of earlier 90s boom-bap era productions, it is not at all hard to figure out why it's a coveted record. That break is as low-slung and funky as it gets, and best showcased on the superbly stripped-back dub on the flip.

The Nairobi Sisters were singers Terrie Nairobi and Judy Mowatt (later of the I-Threes, alongside Rita Marley & Marcia Griffiths). Promised Land was originally recorded together with The Gaytones for Sonia Pottinger's Gay Feet label, with this later version cut for Winston Jones' Brooklyn-based Flames Records. It is issued here under license from producer and songwriter Jones - the original singer and composer of Stop That Train (later made world-famous by Keith & Tex's version) with his Spanishtonians in the early 1960s - who later moved from JA to NYC where he established and ran the Flames label, a core imprint in Brooklyn's reggae scene from the mid-1970s until the early 1990s. 333 has licensed a range of Flames-era productions from the now Texas-based Jones, so keep and eye out for more as it comes... but for now, jump on this before it's gone!

Featured on Habibi Funk’s last compilation (habibi015) with his track “Tendme,” Hesnawi crafts restless funk with evident buttressing from a reggae foundation. Highlighted across the LP is how Hesnawi essentially pioneered such an effortless synthesis between traditional Libyan music and Jamaican reggae stylings, plus the endlessly disparate funk, jazz, and disco accents which firmly situate Hesnawi in a league of his own.

Death Is Not The End sub-label 333 hit again with a reissue of a rarely encountered piece of prime UK digi, courtesy of Franklyn Bernard aka Frankie B - mixed at Fashion's A Class Studio in Clapham, and released on the Ital Stuff label in early 1986.
Frankie B began his recording career with producer Bert Douglas, first releasing on his Reggae City label in 1984 with the No More Tears 7" under his birth name Franklyn Bernard. In 1985 he then linked up with Ital Stuff - a production team consisting of three brothers who also helmed the Sweet & Bitter Band. Operating a small eight track studio in the basement of their house in Balham, Ital Stuff had recently been responsible for putting together and laying down the backing track to Dixie Peach's classic Pure Worries, released on the Jah Tubbys label in 1985. Upon playing Pure Worries to Frankie he was immediately inspired to lay down his own vocal on the track, which too features Dixie Peach contributing vocal harmonies - it was recorded late 1985 and mixed down along with a ferocious dub side at South London's A Class Studio, eventually seeing release in early 1986.

Als Bassist glänzt David Nesselhauf bei hochkarätigen Hamburger Groove-Institutionen wie Diazpora, den Hamburg Spinners oder The Angels Of Libra. Mit »Afrokraut« (2016) und »Afrokraut II - The Lowbrow Manifesto« (2018) widmete sich das Multitalent dem kurzen Abschnitt der Musikgeschichte in dem Krautrock-Acts wie Can die funkigen Afrobetas entdeckten. Experimentierfreudigkeit war entscheidend für den immersiven Produktionsprozess dieses Albums, das sowohl Elemente aus Funk, Afrobeat und Krautrock als auch spacige Drones, frühe Elektronische Musik und Field Recordings umfasst. This limited edition Record Store Day, 10” plum Colored Vinyl release features four of Supergrass’ key tracks from 2004-2005. Opening with the melancholic "St. Petersburg" the slow paced thinker that features an iconic and haunting piano riff that charted #22 in 2005 and as of 2022 is their most recent UK Top 40 Hit. Next up is a live version of the classic Supergrass stomper ‘Road To Rouen’ recorded at Somerset House in 2005. The B side opens to a notably different arrangement of their classic track ‘Kiss Of Life’ recorded live at the Portsmouth Pyramid in 2005. Things take a turn as the EP signs off with ‘Coffee In The Pot’, a lively little Surf Rock inspired number that reminds the listener of Supergrass’ unique sense of humour. A collaboration between two prestigious Italian bands, the wizards of dub and the masters of big-band ska-jazz, in perfect symbiosis. An album full of dub atmospheres mixed with orchestral patterns; compelling rhythms of the ska and reggae traditions together with dilated and hypnotic electronic sounds. A recording fruit of a challenge and a celebration of music, something that is undoubtedly reflected in the spectacular outcome. 22 musicians locked in a large studio to rediscover the beauty of sharing after months away from the stage due to the pandemic, without even being able to rehearse. The decision to record a live album was instantaneous, it was just about enjoying the energy of the moment. All tracks were recorded strictly live in the studio, without overdubs, with the aim of apprehending something unrepeatable. The electronics, the melodies of the wind section and the vocal power come together in this work, recorded live at Deep Studio in Treviso (Italy) and mastered by Ibon Larruzea (Bilbao), full of dub atmospheres mixed with orchestral patterns. All this merges into a unique and explosive sound in which the strength of the big band meets the deep and hypnotic beats of dub music. WDD began their journey as a quartet in 2014 and prior to Studio Session #1 they had already released two albums and several singles. NESJO formed in 2012 and have previously released two albums (both available on Brixton Records) and are working on what will be the recording of their next full-length. Northeast Italy is a border area and it's easy to connect with each other in those territories made of enchanted landscapes. That energy, that desire to experiment and get involved, have made possible this ambitious project in which a ska-jazz orchestra and a dub band, each with its own language, are assembled in an amazing sonority.Classic black vinyl!

The latest report from the Smm0000 record label. A remote collaboration between Big Hands and Banishsh. A-side: Original production by Big Hands (Andrea Ottomanni). B-side: two versions by Banishsh (Simone Guido Izzi). Somewhere between bass-oriented electronic music, jungle, drum and bass and techno with an experimental and unusual perspective. The rhythmic pattern of the A-side collides with the sparse, glittering synth arpeggio. Unexpected narrative paths are layered over repetitive percussive drum sounds. The B-side versions take the original ideas and turn them into a more abstract sonic machine, forecasting glitchy rain, micro-tonal shifting melodies and poly- rhythmic drum sessions.

Wild Carnation was formed in 1992 by vocalist/bassist Brenda Sauter (The Feelies, Speed the Plough, The Trypes) following the breakup and subsequent 16-year hiatus of The Feelies. Joined by Richard Barnes (electric and acoustic guitars), Christopher O'Donovan (drums, percussion, backing vocals) the trio put out their debut album Tricycle in 1994. It wasn’t until 12 years later and the addition of Anne Hopkins (Farfisa Mini-Compact Organ) that the band released their follow-up album Superbus in 2006. Pine Hill Records is proud to present the first ever vinyl issue of Superbus. A limited number of just 197 records were pressed (100 black, 97 purple/green splatter).
