before michael yonkers would revise the history of recorded music with the clarion chords of microminiature love, he was in a band called michael and the mumbles, and they made this self-titled LP in 1966. in the premiere spin, their would-be debut comes off as a naive, teenage trip thru the typified garage band moves of this era. but repeated listening reveals a darkness beneath what some dullard might be deceived by as it's crisp, winsome visage. it's only to a slightly less visible degree that the mumbles LP has the same characteristics that would make micro the singularly original piece that is; it's emotionally bleak themes, dissonant undercurrents, and recklessly wild performance. so, once again we have a michael yonkers LP that is going to turn yr world upside down, make the college girls scream and leave you wondering how many more times this can happen. seriously, pigeon falls up here looked like a riot on the sunset strip. indulge yrself. ps. michael and the mumbles is on the king of all known formats (with a digital download coupon, natch) only, the mastertapes used herein are 45 yrs old and aside from the glitch on "cold town", they sound as good as they could and yr not going to have any trouble embracing their magic.

This is complicated, and largely made up, so pay attention. Joe Pernice is a recording artist, who, once upon a time, had a multi-dollar deal with Sub Pop as a member of the bands SCUD MOUNTAIN BOYS and THE PERNICE BROTHERS. This was before you were born. After a mutual parting of the ways between label and artist, he started his own record label and continued to record under various noms de plume. He also became a novelist, and his first novel, "It Feels So Good When I Stop" will be published by Riverhead Books in August 2009. In said book, the narrator, who is not Joe, is in a band called THE YOUNG ACCUSER for a short time. After the fictional narrator leaves this fictional band, they record a fictional song called "Black Smoke (No Pope)" and send it to the non-fictional Sub Pop. This is the non-fiction version of that fictional single. Of interest may be the fact that a cover of an even earlier, more fictional "Black Smoke (No Pope)" was recorded by the non-fictional Joe Pernice and appears on the non-fictional companion CD to his novel. That CD is called "It Feels So Good When I Stop (Soundtrack)" and it will be released on his Ashmont Records, also in August 2009.

This was unexpected. Citay's 2007 album Little Kingdom made reference to everything from Thin Lizzy and acoustic Led Zeppelin, to Popul Vuh and early Mike Oldfield. So, when theband started asking remixers to rework tracks from Little Kingdom, we were more than a little surprised. As it turns out, the world needs Citay's Remixes. From the ambient textures of White Rainbows' "Eye on Dollar" remix to Cornershop'sAnthony Saffery adding sitar and percussion to "First Fantasy," these are anything but typical remix rave-ups. These Are Powers' Brenmar (aka Bill Salas) gives "Moonburn" a playful,skittering treatment, while BlackMountains' SteveMcBeam adds his effected vocals to "Former Child" - the end result sounding more likeMetallica than like Aphex Twin.While some remixesuse the Citay originals as a foundation for embellishments, others simply take the audio as found sounds and sourcematerial. First European vinyl 45 release on Munster Records, featuring the guitar of Deniz Tek. Inspired by artists such as Etta James and Julie London, Lizzie sang a sultry Jazz set around the traps in Sydney. Enthralling fans with her riveting stage presence and seductive voice, around late 2007, she teamed up with Deniz Tek to pursue a lifelong love of Soul music. Deniz's hard rocking background with Radio Birdman is well known. In recent years he has also worked with Scott Morgan, soul shouter from Detroit's Rationals. Together they performed numbers like Otis Redding's 'Respect' and Johnnie Taylor's 'Hijackin' Love' to crazed audiences across the USA. Lizzie and Deniz hammered together a number of songs, with a cover of Aretha Franklin's aby I Love You and the original iece O Me' making the final selection for their initial vinyl release.
