Classic UK82 heroes, Special Duties return in 2021. The band started in Colchester, Essex, UK as teen punks with a purpose in 1977. Regardless of their musical inabilities, they were signed in 1980. Charnel House released their debut single, the classic, Violent Society ("Violent Society" b/w "Colchester Council"). After years of practice and two more EPs (Police State and Bullshit Crass both on Rondelet), Special Duties, now with Rondelet Music (Anti-Pasti, Riot Squad, The Fits, The Membranes, The Treats), made a rebellious record with a statement, '77 in '82. As many 'punk' bands (Special Duties' influences The Adverts, The Boys included) were going arty or commercial or defunct, The Class of 1982 was redefining punk; harsher and angrier, eschewing the power-pop which had gripped early bands. Peers - such as Discharge, Abrasive Wheels, Chaos UK, GBH, Exploited, Varukers - embraced speedy riffs and snarls instead of hooks and skinny ties. The late 90's saw a rebirth of Special Duties. With reissues of their debut LP, '77 in ''82 on Captain Oi! and Distorted Truth on Get Back, they band began to leave a stamp in a new generation of punks' consciousness, Special Duties were requested to play UK punk festivals, most notably, Fuck Reading and Holidays in the Sun. This led to '77 in '97 also on Captain Oi! (run by Mark Brennan of The Business, who influenced the band as well). This resurgence also saw the band come stateside to the legendary CBGB's in 1998. A recording was self-released. Another single, "Wembley Wembley!" and a split EP with namesake, Violent Society from Philly. A third rising came in quarantine of 2020. Those recordings now see daylight on this fantastic record, Seven Days a Week Violated Records, also home of original legends and contemporary killers such as The Outcasts, The Violators, Foreign Legion, Vice Squad, The Parasitix, Menace, Red Alert, Eater and more, is now releasing Special Duties.

One of the best punk bands to come out of Northern Ireland are back with their first single in 35 years. And it's fair to say the latest incarnation of The Outcasts, who split in 1985 and reunited in 2011, have come up with a release which encapsulates all that's good about the band. It's available on US label Violated Records as a three-track 7in single on three different variants of Colored Vinyl, or as a five-track CD EP, and a fine investment it is, if you can track one down. The A-side contains one new song and one cover. The new one is the title track Stay Young, written by guitarist Martin Cowan and bassist Petesy Burns, and it's fair to say it's classic Outcasts, all about growing old with your loved one. The cover is The Pressure's On, originally by fellow Belfast band Rudi, who were Good Vibrations labelmates back in the day, and they more than do it justice. The B-side contains another original new song, Rebel Rock Radio, a slower number whose central guitar riff owes a lot to The Sweet's Blockbuster or David Bowie's Jean Genie. The CD EP contains two extra tracks, 78 and You're A Disease, the latter being a new recording of one of their very earliest songs. The good news for long-time fans - or anyone who somehow hasn't discovered The Outcasts.The Outcasts turn back the clock with Stay Young, their first single in 35 years

Following on from his UK top 10 album "Seeking New Gods" Gruff Rhys is pleased to announce his forthcoming soundtrack to the film The Almond And The Seahorse via Rough Trade Records. The soundtrack will be released as a foil numbered, limited edition double-LP, on yellow vinyl with a fold out film poster and digitally. The 22-track album comprises original songs and instrumental score, all composed by Gruff Rhys. Recorded between 2021-2022 with a host of featured musicians including members of the National of Orchestra Wales, the music features throughout the forthcoming film of the same name, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rebel Wilson and Celyn Jones. Set for release in early 2023, the film tells the story of archaeologist (Rebel Wilson) and an architect (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and their fight to re-imagine a future after a traumatic brain injury leaves them adrift from the people they love. The title of the film itself refers to the nicknames given to the parts of our brains that lay down new memories and hold on to the old ones. Tonally, the soundtrack compliments the movie perfectly: the drama of the subject matter and the human relationships is counterbalanced by the film"s wry humour and lightness of touch, and the varied compositions and styles on Gruff Rhys" score and compositions reflects that. "The soundtrack for The Almond & The Seahorse was recorded largely in pandemic conditions so it was a matter of recording in bursts of possible activity in various friends" studios, homes and even scout halls as chance permitted. Yesterday's Ring is an acoustic-oriented offshoot of the Quebec-based punk band the Sainte Catherines, though despite their country influences and reduced volume level they still kick up the dust with the same passion and fury as their amped-up alter ego, though with a emotional core that's both tough and tender. Guitarist Frederic Jacques and vocalist Hugo Mudie are longtime friends who formed the Sainte Catherines in 1999. The band developed a reputation in both Canada and the United States through extensive touring, and it was during a day off in Memphis, TN, on a 2001 road trip that Jacques and Mudie sat down with a case of beer and began working up some country-style ballads to pass the time. After coming up with a half-dozen songs, Jacques and Mudie liked the tunes enough that they decided to record them, and with some help from Louis Valiquette (of Roller Starter and Akiata) on guitar and vocals, Yesterday's Ring released a split CD with ska-punk upstarts the Couch Addiction only a few months later. The disc received enthusiastic reviews and Yesterday's Ring began playing out regularly in the Montreal area, expanding to a four-piece with the addition of Marc-André Beaudet (who also played in the Sainte Catherines as well as Rollerskater). In 2003, Yesterday's Ring began work on their first album all their own, 11 Chansons Pour Faire Pleurer les Morts-Vivants, with a studio lineup that added piano, violin, and percussion to the foursome's guitars and voices. The album was another success across Canada, and the band eventually expanded to a septet, with Rich Bouthillier on drums, Pablo Boerr on bass, and Ryan Batistuzzi on slide guitar, and Malcolm Bauld replacing Beaudet and adding keyboards, harmonica, and accordion to his duties as guitarist. A second full album, El Rancho, was released in 2005 with tqo more albums to follow until 2010. In 2014 and now again in 2022 the stoty continues.

The story of the Capsoul master tapes is well known: after City National Bank of Columbus foreclosed on the debt the label incurred to found the city's most successful soul label, owner Bill Moss hid the tapes at a family friend's farm in Central Ohio, looking to dodge repossession. But a flood finished the job that the bank started, and Capsoul's legacy was left to the hands of soul collectors who arrived a generation later. Or so everyone thought. Unearthed in songwriter Dean Francis' basement were two then-unheard Four Mints songs, produced by Francis and recorded in the Capsoul studios with the Capsoul session musicians. "No Longer" and "Endlessly" made for a fitting postscript to the Capsoul story, told by the label's greatest group, and pressed here to bevel-edged 45s with lovingly recreated label art_a full invocation of the magic of an original Bill Moss production.

Death Pill, are an all-female hardcore punk power trio of considerable muscle, combining metalcore, punk rock and (like labelmates 'Shooting Daggers') oodles of 'Riot Grrl' vibe. It's significant how many female punk bands are using the stance and attitude of the 'Riot Grrl' movement as a touchstone for what they are about, but it doesn't end there. From the classic punk of Black Flag, The Distillers and Circle Jerks, to modern outfits like Axe Rash and the thrash metal of Nervosa and Exodus, there's a nod to all of this in Death Pill's visceral sound. Full on and fully formed on their self-titled debut album.That aside, what makes this release even more pertinent for us, and the fact that it is happening at all, is that Mariana, Anastasiya and Nataliya are from the Ukraine, who's troubles are well known to all of course. Hard times, but right now there is a real chance to change lives for the better, the victory is still undoubted.So there is hope for sure, and as this album amply demonstrates, plenty of fighting spirit. It's a killer debut.However, producing a 'killer record' under such extraordinary circumstances was a challenge too. Tracking started during Covid and was completed in late 2021, only three tracks were mixed before the war hit. However the band and their production team were able to somehow continue and finished everything including the artwork in 5 months whilst the Russian invasion rolled on. A testament to their drive and single mindedness.Although things are uncertain, the band is still going strong, still together.Death Pill is set for release on the 24th February 2023, perhaps fittingly a year to the day that Russia invaded Ukraine.'Death Pill' will be released on limited edition white with red splatter vinyl housed in a full colour single sleeve with a printed lyric inner. Full download included. There will also be a limited CD version in a 4 panel digipack with a 12 page lyric booklet.

The high today in Atlanta will be 77° F, it was 81° yesterday and the day before. The weather isn't returning to how it was, and it's not going to get any better. None of this matters. Tom Bruno, Chad Leblanc, and I play music together because it's fun and keeps the despair at bay. We are really good at it because being really good at playing as a band is way more fun than sucking at it. We know how to make records, in fact, we just finished a new one with Damon Moon at Standard Electric recorders here in Atlanta. We're pretty proud of it in that it sounds the way we wanted it to be, and not any way we could guess it should be if we wanted a bajillion people to like it. So, it's nice that you're reading this you might like our music and you might like to see us play it, and we think you probably will, but the truth of the matter is we are doing this purely for our own entertainment. Some cities just know how to produce bands by the bucketload. Take Detroit, for instance: we don't need to rattle through a full list or anything, but safe to say that if your town has given the world the likes of Motown, Derrick May and J Dilla - before we even start to think about The Stooges et al - then you could be forgiven for thinking there must be something in the water round those parts. So whaddya say? Should we get to know two more fine exponents of melodic wonder from the Motor City? Only seems fair. This split LP between citymates The Stools and Toeheads certainly isn't a letdown as far as the illustrious company of their forebears goes. In fact, it's a fast-paced thrill ride that oscillates between hip-shaking rock'n'roll swing and bone-shaking hardcore energy. You might already be familiar with The Stools thanks to their ludicrously addictive Feelin' Fine 7", which dropped via Drunken Sailor (hey, those guys sound familiar_) early in 2021. If you though that short EP was a good time, wait 'til you see what they've got in store here: right out of the gate, opener Dead Man's Ford smashes the devil-toed boogie of the MC5 at their slinkiest into the teeth-clenched intensity of Negative Approach (and that's a pretty decent John Brannon-style roar they deliver too). They maintain this quality and velocity across their side, which is brilliant. There's no let-up from Toeheads either - their side of this split sounds like someone revved up The Gun Club and aimed fireworks inside their exhaust. This is the sound you always knew you were working towards when you got into this rock'n'roll business; guitars blazing, lungs bursting, a wall of sound collapsing while we all dance in the debris. Does it sound like anything new? Fuck no, but that's not the point. Much like The Stools, there's nothing you can say about Toeheads that can't be summarised with the phrase 'total exhilaration'. 'What if Blitz hailed from Los Angeles and sang in Spanish' isn't a question you hear all that often. Fortunately, we don't need to ask - the answer is provided by Generacion Suicida's latest album, which rages and rattles in all the right places, drenched in the memorable brilliance that powered the Killed By Death compilations (ask yer dad - and if he doesn't know or care, burn his terrible records and make some space to track down the KBD LPs). The band's slogan is 'musica del barrio, para el barrio' - music from the neighbourhood, for the neighbourhood - but it sounds like they could use these hooks to take on the world. That's a pretty accurate sentiment as well, because this album was written during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020, while the world bubbled over with carefully managed misinformation, police violence and the sickening overspill of white supremacy's foul brew. If Regeneracion sounds potent, it's because there was a lot to be angry about, and the result is arguably their best album yet. Those chorused-out guitar lines carry shades of deathrock, hints of Manchester circa 1980, elements of something you might call goth if it was several degrees less furious. But there's no doomed romance to this music; it's an all-out attack. Street punk with the smarts turned up and an ear turned to the lessons learned from post-punk (but crucially, not the 'post-punk revival' that is essentially shirtless beardy lads chanting non-sequiturs over landfill indie). Chiefly, it'll make you wanna get out of your chair, unite your local community and march on down towards your government's centre of operations with a simple-to-use molotov cocktail kit. Its rage is infectious. It's inspired by bleak moments in our recent shared history, but it revels in humans' capacity to find strength in each other. And the tunes? Oh damn, they're good.' 'Questionably a hardcore band' is how Daddy's Boy describe themselves, and one listen to their discombobulatingly brilliant debut LP should answer all your questions as to what that could possibly mean. Recorded with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, GREAT NEWS! is the sound of punk folding in on itself and racing through sounds you might have previously identified with dumb genre tags like post-punk and possibly even no-wave - except this isn't either of those things. It rages smartly and discordantly across a wide terrain of undulating rhythms and coruscating rifferema, eventually settling on something that's_ well, kinda uniquely Daddy's Boy. So what makes this sound? Specifically, four humans who are too clever to simply follow the 'three chords, now form a band' template without trying to fuck up the corners (and work their way into the centre). Members of Split Feet, Retreaters and Fake Limbs pile up together to create this delicious cacophony, and you'll be glad they did. When vocalist Jes Skolnik intones, "I'm so fucking important," you know it's drenched in venomous irony, but it's difficult not to agree: GREAT NEWS! feels like a record that'll last way beyond those 'best of the year' lists and continue to pulverise your eardrums for years to come. It's the sort of record that felt like the future when Touch & Go Records pushed hardcore past its knuckleheaded limitations 40 years ago, and still feels like no one ever really caught up. It's the riffs from Cows' Cunning Stunts, cribbing notes from Crass' Feeding Of The 5,000, with vocal delivery pitched to 'gloriously matter-of-fact'. Oh, and no spoilers, but in Skolnik, Daddy's Boy might just have one of the smartest lyricists in (questionable) hardcore right now. Mark my words, this is some record. Will Fitzpatrick

Philly's own Chained Bliss set tongues a-waggin' back in 2019 with their Stained Red cassette EP, gathering more than a few comparisons to the Wipers' early racket in the process. Well, now they're back with a debut album that seems to have skipped right ahead from Is This Real? to Over The Edge: this self-titled LP has all the gut-punching ramalama, knockabout guts'n'glory of that first tape, with added layers. Melodic guitar lines come perilously close to jangling over crunching power chords, while furiously yelped choruses give way to sumptuously put-together breakdown sections that catch you off guard and kick you in the shins before legging it down the street. Chained Bliss clearly love scrappy, skatey garage rock (echoes of Agent Orange's Living In Darkness abound) as much as they love pushing that raucous clatter into something spacious - the meditative sections that flow effortlessly into absolute ripper Pillars Of Abuse are as unexpected as the thoughtful but head-spinningly energetic sections that bring Creative Seizure so thrillingly to life. Other times they're just as happy to keep you careening towards the pit with two-minute bangers, but that's the beauty of this record: it's never smarter than when it's playing dumb, and the rest of the time it's just pretty damn smart. Here's a challenge: can you listen to Ominous Life's gnarly pop without raising those fists of yours skywards and landing a firm thump on the air? Or Drifter's swaggering stomp? Or, or, or_ ahhh hell, you get what I'm saying here. Every single cut slays, every single hook snags itself on your brain. You'll come back for more, and more, and more. Are Chained Bliss your new favourite band? Well, gee, we've never met and I don't know what you like and it's not for me to say_ but on the other hand, yes. Yes, they are. Between the ages of 2 and 18, Cora Gilroy-Ware lived in a haunted place. On the outside, this small edge of Connecticut coastline was a quintessential New England town. Yet beneath its quaint surface was a netherworld that got steadily darker over the course of those sixteen years. From a serious drug problem to environmental pollution leading to deadly illnesses, frequent suicides and an above average number of fatal accidents, something about this place was cursed. Amid this world Cora was an outsider, someone who preferred pop and RnB to the music of her peers, who mostly subscribed to the dregs of a Deadhead culture that was more nihilistic than utopian. Still, she found herself on weekends drinking in the woods with the rest of them, playing along until it was time to leave. Christmas breaks and summer months were spent across the Atlantic in a completely antithetical environment. In London, the city of her birth, Cora spent her teen years taking the bus home at dawn after raves under the railroad arches, or riding the tube to her cousin's house in Camden. For a long time, Cora's life was composed of these two strands_ghostly East Coast suburbia and inner-city London_which she was forced to fold in and out of one another like a two-strand French braid. She quickly learned to adapt and be whoever the particular moment demanded. Her outsider status was intensified by the fact that, being of mixed Afro-Caribbean and European descent, her family didn't look like the others in Connecticut. In the 2000s, this meant Cora had to contend with a deeply ingrained kind of folk-racism, both conscious and unconsciously expressed. Nobody talked about these things back then, and she internalized a lot of shame. The ability to shape-shift became integral to Cora's artistic practice. Her survival mechanism at school was to carve out her own worlds through visual art and dance. Altın Mikrofon (Golden Microphone) is a music contest organized in 1965 by "Hürriyet", one of the biggest newspapers of the time. The first Golden Microphone contest was organized in 1965. The qualifiers of the 2nd Competition organized in 1966 were held in 9 hours in front of a jury including the famous artist Zeki Müren. This time 7 finalists were selected and their contest tracks were released as 45 rpm singles. They gave concerts in Izmir, Ankara, Istanbul, Bursa, Bursa, Eskişehir, Samsun and Konya. The last concert was again held in Istanbul. Silhouettes won the contest with 4563 votes. Second place was Blue Lights with 2850 votes, just like last year. The third with 2382 votes was Selçuk Alagöz. The finalists Kent Yedilisi, T.P.A.O.Batman Orkestrası, Cahit Oben, Siluetler, Ali Atasagun, Mavi Işıklar and Selçuk Alagöz Orkestrası shaped the Turkish Pop Music and Anatolian Rock movement

The 90’s San Francisco underground electronic scene always commanded a great deal of love and respect here at OCD. It played an important role not only in the development of the global electronic music scene, but also in our personal, never-ending journey of discovery. Back in 1996, between the early releases of one of the SF’s scene most important and pioneering record labels, Sunburn Records, an EP titled “Plum Pudding EP” by an artist called “Trailmix” appeared. It featured 4 tracks spanning between early hours progressive-house and more gentle, mellow breaks with a hint of electronica. For many years it has been one of our most favourite record from that scene and era. 27 years later, we’re beyond stoked to have being able to successfully track down that gentleman by the name of Alan Aronoff (Trailmix) who, with no hesitation, allowed us to reissue that special EP on The Secret Sun.

Nick Hanzo came in contact with turntableism 14 year ago, during a study semester in Madrid. Back in Vienna he had to get his own vinyl decks and started to practice, play and organize monthly soirees called do.phunk. Over the years Hanzo became an integral part of the Viennese electronic music scene, founding club nights like Schmusesalon or the audio visual collective Wiener Endorphine. He organized parties across the whole city, in venues like Grelle Forelle, Pratersauna, Sass or Celeste and showed his dj skillz on even more occasions. Besides numerous actions, he recently established the label Belly Dance Services with his buddy Yaman and they released the EP “Sirisins” as “Hanzo & Yaman”. After Nick’s summer debut on the fortunea 10 compilation with the track „Veni Vide“, he returns with his first solo ep called „Last Day, Miracle!“ ~ because where there is great love, there will always be miracles.
