Hells Headbangers is proud to present a long-overdue reissue of Unlord’s cult second album, Gladiator. Formed in 1989, Unlord are widely considered among the Netherlands’ very first black metal bands, if not THE first. Although they never publicly released any demos, their three albums for the sorely missed Displeased Records – 1997’s Schwarzwald, 2000’s Gladiator, and 2002’s Lord of Beneath – stand as a nigh-untouchable trio of freezing-fire black metal incarnate. Unlord’s proud ‘n’ pure synthesis of bazooka-blown speed and violently melodic riffing reeks of late ‘90s nostalgia but also sounds remarkably fresh today, nearly 20 years after their untimely breakup. At the dawn of the new millennium did Unlord unleash their second album, Gladiator. Aptly titled and again adorned with appropriately fiery cover art, Gladiator was a consolidation of all-too-considerable strengths. The blitzkrieg speed of the preceding Schwarzwald is amazingly taken up a notch here, and the riffing clangs & churns with even more authority; if anything,Gladiator is the sound of Unlord at their most berserk. And yet, the icy melodicism remains, and the production is powerfully clear and crisp.

In 2013 Finland’s Oranssi Pazuzu issued their ‘Valonielu’ LP, an album of timeless creative immensity that was met with ubiquitous praise throughout the world, and solidified the band’s position as one of the most forward-thinking and interesting metal bands. Now, in the early months of 2016, Oranssi Pazuzu returns with the follow-up album and fourth overall, the mind-bending masterwork ‘Värähtelijä’.

Oranssi Pazuzu, since birth, has never been satisfied to stick with a formula. From various improvisations, the experienced & avant-garde musician Sebastian Vaughan decided to take a fresh look and avoid the use of sampling third parties by crafting compositions. An approach to music as a spiritual path driven all the way long by psychedelic dubby vibes , acidic frequencies & hypnotic repetitions coming from his sound-system culture heritage .

While the tracks "It Comes and Goes" , "Ronde Cinétique" , "Electric Shrine" and "Golden Black" draw contemporary almost cinematic ambiences with vibrant and spacious feelings , "Monin Yiri" , "Sound Loves Dance" & "Grow with the Flow" represent a series of energetic deconstructed leftfields , with the omnipresence of a singular tribalism that emphases the african side of Wave Arising .

On its own "Music without chains" is , as the title underlines , a joyful jam free from any boxes or attempts at confinement .

Finally "Subconscience" arrives like a probe , a dreamlike piece full of endless reverbs from Kynsie's voice ; generating mysterious environments and resonating directly with "Soul Whispers" .

Taking on the challenge of fusion , "(The) Rooted Sky" asks the listener to open up through a collection of progressive tracks reflecting the core of Wave Arising’s spirit : Music & Body as a portal . Through this consciously chosen wide range of dynamics , the producer shows his musical ability to create an unique sonic palette yet staying true to his own personality .

Regarding the cover, the outside is a minimalist yet symbolic photograph of the duo’s hands. As for the interior, Wave Arising is very grateful to welcome primitive artworks by the talented artist Rapoon , one of the founder members of the legendary group Zoviet*France . Continuing with this global vision of intertwined arts, the videos accompanying this record are created by Wave Arising .

The film was produced by André Djaoui and René Malo, with music by Ennio Morricone and starring Eric Stoltz, Maryam D'Abo, Bruno Cremer, Mario Adorf, Anna Kanakis, F. Murray Abraham, Christopher Plummer, Bernard Fresson, Angelo Infanti and Tomas Milian. Frank Cimbali is a 21-year-old man who, trying to reclaim his legacy, discovers the dirty business of his father's former business partner. While traveling around the world in search of those who have robbed him of millions of dollars, Frank meets the love of his life. Finally, the young man finds Will Scarlet, who had been his father's partner and who is now seriously ill. Will admits his role in the crime and decides to help Frank track down the rest of the men on his revenge list. Two different versions of Money were produced, one for television and one for the cinema. Most of the soundtrack is repertoire, but this CD, with a duration of approx. 37 minutes, contains only the original music composed, orchestrated and conducted by Ennio Morricone, derived from the stereo masters of the original sessions. Oscar Valdambrini is the exceptional flugelhorn soloist on the rhythmic main theme, which is alternated with moments of comedy, suspense and action. This reissue will be welcomed by anyone who missed out on the long-out-of-print GDM CD release and is essential for every collection dedicated to the musical genius of Ennio Morricone.

In 1986 Arthur Russell was diagnosed with HIV, that same year he released his career-defining masterpiece World of Echo, the first and only solo album issued during his lifeltime. Arthur had found his voice and a fresh direction with a set of new, transformative material, unlike anything he or anyone else had previously released. His illness ensured that the artistic growth and sense of exploration encapsulated in World of Echo would be tragically curtailed. Within six short years Arthur was gone. Arthur's final years were filled with a renewed commitment to creativity and unceasing live and recording work. He regularly performed the World of Echo material and incorporated several of its compositions in collaborations with choreographers active in New York's innovative dance community. Arthur worked closely with Diane Madden, Allison Salzinger, Stephanie Woodard, and John Bernd, usually playing his cello and effects boxes off stage as the choreographers’ pieces were performed. In 1993 Arthur posthumously received a prestigious Bessie Composer Award for his work in the dance world. Picture of Bunny Rabbit features nine previously unreleased performances from this era compiled from completed masters culled from two unique test pressings, including one, dated 9/15/85 by Arthur, provided by his mother and sister. A further four tracks were discovered in his tape archive. The track listing includes an exceptional and dramatic solo recording of “In The Light of a Miracle” and the enigmatic title instrumental “Picture of Bunny Rabbit,” written especially for a friend's pet rabbit. The bulk of the material was recorded with engineer Eric Liljestrand at Battery Sound Studios, New York, which was located directly opposite the World Trade Center and at Arthur’s apartment studio in the East Village. “Music is a very personal thing. Melbourne-based band Hiatus Kaiyote announces their forthcoming album Love Heart Cheat Code due June 28th via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune. Alongside the announcement, the band shares their new single out “Make Friends,” the second offering from their upcoming project following their previously-released single “Everything’s Beautiful.” The band are also sharing a visual announcement of the album revealing the playful 3-D world of a family supermarket that the band have created to accompany the music.

A final unscripted addition to the album, “Make Friends” was inspired by words of wisdom imparted to the band by a friend who noted, “You don’t make friends, you recognize them.” Succinct yet profound, this sage insight reminded Nai of the lack of representation for deep, platonic love. “I wanted to have representation for just the different examples of people that I love from the women in my life, to the men, to my non-binary friends,” she shares, “and it was very natural and fun to work on as a formula.” The single is composed of one verse, but Nai takes that one verse through three gender permutations: female, male, and nonbinary. Nai adds, “When I sang the third verse, the ‘them/they’ verse, I actually had to stop. Just realizing that inclusivity is so often denied to some of the people that I love the most, my best besties.”

Love Heart Cheat Code is a snapshot of four musicians dancing together on the edge, 11 playful, exuberant tracks that shine light. Yet, for a band that made a name for itself with its complexity and received critical praise and multiple Grammy nominations for their embrace of maximalism, one of the most striking things about Love Heart Cheat Code is its simplicity. “I’m a maximalist. I complicate fucking everything,” Nai laughs. “But the more you go through things in life, you become more relaxed and uninhibited. Sometimes you can still have depth and reach people and really stop dancing around the fact: What do you want to communicate to people? And I feel like this album is a result of that clarity for us. We didn’t need to spell out complexity if the song didn’t call for it.”

Quartet Records was proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of J.A. Bayona’s horror cult-classic The Orphanage in 2017 with a newly recorded, complete edition of the score composed by Fernando Velázquez , The Orphanage was the first collaboration between director and composer, a partnership that has continued in such modern classics as The Impossible and A Monster Calls. Now this new recording is available in an exclusive, limited and numbered collectors’ vinyl release.

It may seem unusual that a barely ten-year-old score is being re-recorded, but giving The Orphanage a second chance to shine is an undertaking of which Quartet Records is especially proud. This tenth-anniversary edition includes every note Fernando Velázquez wrote for the film in its original conception to give fans a bold, new take on a modern classic. The original soundtrack album was negotiated and signed off before the recordings were made, and while Fernando wasn’t quite satisfied with the performance, the album had to be released nonetheless. It was a problematic recording, without much possibility of correcting mistakes (do not forget that The Orphanage was a low-budget film). When the possibility of expanding the original 47-minute-long program was being discussed in early 2017, a review of the original multi-track recordings revealed that time hasn’t been kind to Velázquez’s first major score, so a new plan was formulated. The composer took it upon himself to revisit the project by doing a brand-new recording with The Basque National Orchestra, the same ensemble he used for A Monster Calls, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Submergence and his “Concert Suites” album. By using one of his favorite orchestras and his usual recording engineer, Marc Blanes, whom he couldn’t use on his seminal score, Quartet Records and Fernando Velazquez present the same music he wrote a decade ago (including previously unrecorded alternates), using the know-how and skills he has gained in the past 10 years to bring fans a new recording of which we can all be proud.

This exclusive, 2-lp edition has been remastered for vinyl by Chris Malone, and includes newly commissioned artwork by PosterSpy & Karl Fitzgerald. The record comes in a deluxe gatefold package that includes statements from Fernando Velázquez and director J.A. Bayona. This is a collectable, must-have edition for all Velázquez, Bayona or horror movies fans!

1971 soundtrack from Ennio Morricone Pressed on Transparent Clear Vinyl & includes a 30x30cm insert Liner notes and audio remastered by Claudio Fuiano “Sacco e Vanzetti” is a 1971 dramatic movie directed by Giuliano Montaldo and masterfully starred by the two lead actors Gian Maria Volonté and Riccardo Cucciolla; the film deals with the everpopular topic of the death penalty by recounting a real event that caused quite a stir at the time: the sentencing to the electric chair of two Italian immigrants who were executed in 1927 after a sevenyear trial.

For “Sacco & Vanzetti” Ennio Morricone composed one of the most intense scores of his long and successful career, starting with the mostly romantic and extremely sad theme for oboe and orchestra “Speranze di libertà”. Joan Baez’s charming voice interprets “La ballata di Sacco e Vanzetti”, divided into three parts alternating with the macabre theme of “Nel carcere” provided by electronic effects and ripping strings that would fit well in a giallo movie. The ballad motif is then reprised and played by liturgical organ and orchestra in “Sacco e il figlio”, while “La sedia elettrica” is an experimental electronic music cut. The closing song “Here’s to You”, sung by Joan Baez, has become a sort of anthem worldwide.

On the occasion of Record Store Day 2024, this legendary soundtrack is exclusively reissued on clear vinyl, with new artwork and a 30x30cm insert. Liner notes and audio remastered by Claudio Fuiano.

1969 soundtrack from Piero Umiliani Pressed on Yellow Vinyl & includes a 30x30cm insert First ever vinyl release of several tracks! “L'arcangelo” (The Archangel) is a 1969 comedy characterised by police and judiciary tones, directed by GIorgio Capitani and starring, among others, Vittorio Gassman, Pamela Tiffin, Adolfo Celi, Irina Demick and Carlo Delle Piane.

This soundtrack follows the previous “La notte è fatta per... rubare” (Night is Made for Stealing) which marked the beginning of Umiliani’s collaboration with the director. Mainly displaying a Latin American flavour, it contains several elements typical of the composer’s style, mixing bossa nova and samba with beat rhythms and Hammond organ, and is enriched by various vocal contributions from Alessandro Alessandroni’s Cantori Moderni and the delightful scat singing of Giulia De Mutiis, one of the choir’s female voices. Distorted electric guitars with orchestral ensemble also create an atmosphere between spy and detective story.

None of “The Archangel” tracks have ever been released in any form for many years, and to date there are only three CD editions only issued in Japan. This clear yellow vinyl version therefore fills a void and finally returns these wonderful compositions to us in the format that suits them best!

Nervous Gender’s legendary synthpunk LP Music From Hell burbles up from infernal depths to resurface on Dark Entries! Confrontational, unhinged, and unabashedly queer, Music from Hell is an unholy grail for fans of the strangest underbellies of post-punk, minimal synth, and early industrial music, and is presented here newly remastered and on expanded double LP. Nervous Gender (de)formed in LA in 1978 at the hands of Phranc, Gerardo Velaquez, Edward Stapleton, and Michael Ochoa. Phranc, the androgynous embodiment of the band’s name, left in 1980. Following her departure, a wide cast of LA freaks would find themselves drawn into the band’s orbit, including Alice Bag of the Bags, Paul Roessler of the Screamers, the Germs’ Don Bolles, and an 8-year old drummer named Sven Pfeiffer. In 1980, Nervous Gender appeared on the seminal Live at Target compilation alongside Factrix, uns, and Flipper. With the band’s notoriety cemented, Music from Hell followed in 1981 on Subterranean Records (as no LA label would touch this material). Side A, dubbed “Martyr Complex”, presents a more punk-forward sound with live drum salvos and slabs of aggressive synth. These twitchy, unsettling shockers ooze with the kind of snotty misanthropy that will endear them to fans of the Screamers or Crass. Side B, known as “Beelzebub Youth”, is a live performance the band labeled "an electronic bruto-canto dissertation on the banality of spiritual transcendence." Mutant melodies cede way to synthesized clangs, whirs, bleeps, manipulated tapes, and howls of despair. In addition to all the material from the original LP, we’re treated to a full disc of the band’s demos, the material from the Live at Target compilation, and early live recordings. Included are unrecognizable covers of Carly Simon and Lou Reed, and the Sex Pistols that are so despairingly skewed they fall into the void. This reissue of Music From Hell includes a 36 page lyric booklet, foldout poster, and gatefold sleeve with photos, flyers, and news-clippings designed by Eloise Leigh. Tackling taboo issues like sexual kinks, mental illness, drug use, and childhood molestation, Music From Hell is still surprising – even shocking - over 40 years after the album’s release. Nervous Gender stand as one of the most genuinely anti-establishment outfits in underground music, a colossal fuck you to social norms from religious strictures to gender essentialism.

Tales OF Belle, Part 2 – Unveiled BY Fire features 10 tracks that were all written and recorded during various states of lockdown in Norway. The theme is now the mysterious death of her second husband, all the men seeking prosperity with the widowed Belle only to disappear, the horrendous fire on her farm, the gruesome findings in the grounds after the fire, the absurd theatre that took place after the news broke, the trial of the farmhand, and finally his confession. Nobody can tell for certain if Belle Gunness perished in the fire or not. There is no final confirmation… Adventure is still exploring the golden era of 70's symphonic hard rock, mixing in proggy and folky elements. The guitar and Hammond organ still the heart of Adventure’s sound, augmented by multipart harmony vocals and a rock steady rhythm section. Clive Nolan of Pendragon and Arena fame has a little cameo appearance. Cellist Marit Aspås from The Trondheim Soloists also appears on a couple of tracks.

In every arts community, there are people who, despite being little known even to fans of the scene, are deeply embedded in its past and present. When it comes to NYC independent hip-hop, Joseph Fusaro aka Steel Tipped Dove is one of those people. Not only has he quietly made beats for everybody and their cousin but for more than fifteen years Dove has run a recording studio out of the same 2nd floor walk-up in Brooklyn, weathering gentrification and the proliferation of home studios alike. In that time, a wealth of artists have crossed his threshold; some famous, some forgotten, and many in between. Dove’s was always a place where you could schedule a last-minute session or have an out-of-town artist meet you at 1am after their show, no need to worry, Dove would be there. It’s a place that you drop by because you’re around the corner and end up leaving with a jump drive full of wild beats.

Call Me When You’re Outside is a testament to that energy: inspired collaborations with disparate artists from across the country and the indie music spectrum. The album features Elucid, billy woods, KeiyaA, The Koreatown Oddity, Pink Siifu, Shirt, Fat Tony, Fielded, Fatboi Sharif, and Skech185, and is entirely produced by Steel Tipped Dove. Mixed and mastered by Willie Green and executive produced by billy woods, Cmwyo not only speaks to Dove’s history in the scene but the vitality of his current work. He may have been in the game for a long time, but his beats have never sounded better and his vision as a producer has never been clearer. With that in mind, if you buy it directly from us the project comes with the full instrumentals, which are also included in the vinyl and CD versions. The vinyl artwork is masterfully handled by multidisciplinary artist Myra Musgrove, while the CD is designed by the enigmatic Harvey Cliff.

In some ways it’s surprising that for all the artists Dove has worked with—NOSAJ from New Kingdom, R.A.P. Ferreira, Tone Tank, Das Racist, ShrapKnel, Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire, Kemba fka YC The Cynic—he has never put out a project like this. But if you know Joe, it’s really not. He has always been comfortable playing the background and contributing in whatever way he could. For him, it’s always been about the music. We hope you enjoy this rare peek into Dove’s world: his sound, his friends and collaborators. The studio is open to everyone but the buzzer hasn’t worked for fifteen years, so call when you’re outside.

Soulove Records present the new studio album from the new sensation Marumba. Time Has Come is the title of Marumba’s new album, released on DJ Afghan’s Soulove Records label. It includes nine roots reggae, one drop and stepper tracks embellished with instrumental dub versions.For this work, Marumba led a team of excellent musicians who are part of the Playmore Band, with collaborations including Deadly Hunta, Mannaroman, Livio Roaring Bass, Dub Harp and Adriano Taborro. Marumba himself, who took care of the music and arrangements, talking about the album explained: “The time has come to come to terms with one’s past and present, and to have the dignity of explaining what war is. The Flower Power were formed in Gulfport, MS, in October 1967 by Craig Ferguson, guitar and lead vocal (formerly of The Soule Survivors), Robert Weathersby, guitar and Gregg Giuffria, organ (both from The Telstars), David Mcintosh and Sandi Craig (from Sandi and the Gang Band) and Joe Rolison from The Varments on bass. They were still in their teens aged between 15 to 17 years old.

They gigged in local clubs and bars up and down the Gulf Coast and, by good fortune, met their future managers Tom and Paul Krimsier in a radio station car park in New Orleans. Tom’s father-in-law was none other than Joe Banashak, a prominent producer and record label owner. He signed them to his Tune-Kel imprint in early 1968 and they cut their first single, ‘Bye Bye Baby’, at the famed Cosimo Recording Studios.

With the Krimsier Management on board the band moved up a gear backing the likes of B.J. Thomas, Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, The Nazz, Todd Rundgren and many others. On Sunday, August 31st The Flower Power were the opening act at the first New Orleans Pop Festival, a two day event with Janis Joplin, Santana and The Grateful Dead. They continued to record for Banashak and released five singles on Tune-Kel, all highly collectable today. They also laid down some material in Houston, Texas, unreleased until now!

Farside was a melodic punk band from Orange County, CA, founded in 1989. Their sound was a mixture of ’80s post-hardcore (dag Nasty, Hüsker DÜ, and THE Descendents were big influences), ’90s alternative metal (helmet, Quicksand), and the power-pop sensibilities of the late ’70s (Elvis Costello), and as a result, the band never quite fit in on any bill they were booked to play. This resulted in the band never being completely definable, which suited the members just fine. Many current bands have cited Farside as an influence, and it’s clear that their music left a lasting impression on their dedicated and loyal fan base. The Monroe Doctrine, the band’s final album, was the culmination of ten years of progression for the band and reflects their diverse mixture of punk, post-punk, indie, and pop melodies.

Spotted by French label Record Makers (Sébastien Tellier, Kavinsky, AIR, Cola Boyy) with his 2017 “Dessous de plage” first EP, nit has since grown from funky DIY library music to a lush and complex groovy sound. The magic of this debut album “Big Bang Puzzle” is a keen sense of composition and an innate affinity for 90’s European electronica.

It’s a playful album, the work of an artist at the peak of his craft, determined to twist styles and references (Daft Punk, Ennio Morricone, Robert Miles, Vangelis...) in order to give them a new form.

“Big Bang Puzzle” is a tangle of psychedelic and cartoon-esque pieces, an abstract modernist painting of sounds inspired by vintage pop music. The cover, created by Swiss artist Flora Mottini, offers a first glimpse of his brand new universe.

But it’s also by collaborating with French iconic design studio H5 that nit suddenly enters the French Touch genealogy. nit takes the shape of an n that grows legs and arms to become a cheeky cartoon character traveling through a real space-time continuum. Parisian H5 studio has been involved since the end of the ‘90s in the design of strong visual concepts for French Touch’s elite (Etienne de Crécy, AIR, Mirwais). French music at its best from which nit is a direct descendant. And one who expands and opens even further: pop, italo-disco, trip-hop impulses, Morriconian cavalcades, lo-fi aesthetics, Caribbean music. Producer and mixer Lucien Krampf (Oklou, Ascendant Vierge, Casual Gabberz, Crystallmess) was the person in charge of mixing this ambitious record.

The Promise Of Rain, the sophomore album of the experimental black metal band Scarcity, is an embodiment of the hard-to-believe truth that burdens are easier to bear when distributed, a realization Brendon Randall-Myers (conductor of the Glenn Branca Ensemble) grappled with extensively while writing this record. This is a sweat-drenched album about dispersion, about spreading, about the collective relieving of burdens through shared experience: one doesn’t have to go through everything alone.

When Scarcity’s debut album Aveilut was written in early 2020, Randall-Myers and vocalist Doug Moore (Pyrrhon, Weeping Sores, Glorious Depravity, and Seputus) never expected to be able to play their songs live. The cathartic experience of playing something that came from a place of isolation out to people in a live setting is the root of the intensity in The Promise Of Rain. The Promise Of Rain begins where the craziest climaxes of Aveilut end, and is the first Scarcity record to include Tristan Kasten-Krause (Sigur Ros, Steve Reich, Leya) on bass, Dylan Dilella (Pyrrhon) on guitar and Lev Weinstein (Krallice) on drums. Rather than building density with the quasi-orchestral layering on Aveilut, Scarcity challenged themselves to document what five people in a room could do, recording most of The Promise Of Rain in one or two takes, capturing the physical effort and urgency of a live performance.

Scarcity forges a completely fresh sound in The Promise Of Rain with their alarming guitar work and melodic arpeggiating, shedding dead skin and breaking ground with sheer vulnerability. The lyrics for The Promise Of Rain were inspired by a trip Moore took to the high deserts of southern Utah in 2023. “To thrive in the desert is an act of abnegation—” he observes, “you do right by the land and receive its gifts, or it does away with you.” The necessity of adaptation is as evident in the desert as it is to the landscape of the human experience. The transformation of ideas and beliefs, the grief of losing relationships that had to end, and the fear involved in forming new ones under the grip of mental illness is conjured over and over again on this panoramic album.
