Twin Cities-based band We Are the Willows presents its sonically explorative full-length album "iv" in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Youngbloods label. In title, the album nods to the project being the band’s fourth LP and is shorthand for Inside Voice, a side project between Willows lead Peter Miller and cellist Hilary James (Bathtub Cig) where the record’s writing derived. "iv" follows a series of three multi-genre EP projects released in 2023, shifting between classically tinged ambience, soaring falsetto mantras, and dancing syncopated rhythms to develop a fully formed amalgamation of the band’s prior output. Across eight new works, We Are the Willows’ latest effort explores their creative process through a procedural and holistic lens, the end result being a wonderfully earnest and stylistically polished discovery of artistic belonging.

Tamás Kátai has a vision that extends far beyond his native Hungary, but Thy Catafalque’s twelfth album is tied to the past in more ways than one. Whereas his previous album returned to the heavier days of Thy Catafalque, XII takes Kátai on a more figurative journey. The album unfolds like a dark night of the soul, whisked away by the dreamy-yet-haunting opener “Piros kocsi, fekete éj”. “Run with me, life / Whisper the tales”, Attila Bakos sings in Hungarian. His cleans soar over the airwaves, reappearing with ease 15 years after he first joined Thy Catafalque for the project’s underground breakout Róka Hasa Rádió. More old friends join Kátai on this journey. A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek features 20+ guest musicians, including familiar faces from inside and outside of the Hungarian metal scene. Violins, cello and clarinet bring the comforts of home. Still, the road can be quite harsh. “Mindenevő” is consumed with humanity’s self-destructive appetite, fueled by mechanized blast beats and distorted downpicking that recalls the fiery black metal from which Thy Catafalque was originally forged in 1998. Hungarian history looms behind the album’s most crushing moments. The coal blackened chugger “Vasgyár” is named after the rusted-out ironworks that once fueled the country’s economy. In the video for the album’s title track and lead single, Kátai runs through not only his hometown but surreal scenes from past and present issues that lie beneath the surface of the countryside. But his flair for the avant-garde still shines like the dawn. The synth's minor key melody glows with the faint but familiar reassurance that the beautiful dreams are yet to come. 1. Florida producer, multi-instrumentalist and coder Tristan Whitehill - AKA Euglossine - continues to surprise with his latest record. "Biggest Part" is a departure from previous styles - the early interstellar sound design, serrated onslaughts, and later labyrinthine meme jazz and rain soaked bossa guitar.
The songs here are perhaps his most musical - and vulnerable - to date. Familiar glow-worm melodies and meandering bass are now supplemented with lead vocals, big hooks, and backing singers (!?). Tristan's storytelling has always been rooted in imagined worlds, but the cast of characters and magical interludes that bubble up from "Biggest Part" are his most soulful and relatable yet, for all their fairytale bizarre-ness.
Recommended if you like Steely Dan, Beatrix Potter, Untitled Goose Game.

Liquor Talkin’ is the debut studio album from Texas-based country artist Don Louis. Born in Irving and raised on a 12-acre farm in Commerce, Texas, Don Louis learned the meaning of work early on. Done was an All-District defensive end for Commerce High School and played on scholarship at Ouachita Baptist and Southern Arkansas. Each album comes with a 12x12 insert and a 24x24 poster of the band. Packaging includes excellent band pics and lyrics. The two-piece rock band Taika’s (帯化) 3rd album ‘On Chitou Jichi’ (御池塘自治), originally released in 2023, is now available on vinyl. The album’s folkloric vocals and krautrock-inspired repetition swirl together with environmental sounds, creating an immersive atmosphere. The interplay between the post-Fourth World Revival soundscapes and the raw, earthy physicality rooted deep within the music blurs the line between the nostalgic and the novel, each reflecting echoes of the other.

In this album, Taika explores the residual sense of "foreignness" within the now-commonplace rock band format in Japan, re-examining it and injecting new possibilities for "translation" and reinterpretation into those gaps.

This release includes a large poster-style lyric sheet. Additionally, it comes with a download code for the digital version of ‘On Chitou Jichi,’ as well as a code for a destructive remix of Taika’s track “Kouraku Biyori” by the up-and-coming dub techno artist Yo, who is signed to Taika’s independent label, Zōen Keikaku.

Initially coming from the DIY hardcore scene, Coilguns have since then crafted their very own blend of punk and ecstatic noise-rock. The history of the band is deeply bound to the development of guitarist Jona Nido’s own label – Humus Records – that now gathers up to 150 releases from Swiss artists of all sonic horizons.
