Bushwacka’s ﬁrst release for Radio Slave’s Rekids, the ‘Heaven On Earth’ EP, is out on October 11th 2024 and sees the UK House and Breakbeat innovator deliver two tracks complete with versions.

Title track ‘Heaven On Earth’ is a slice of low-slung House in which a drawling spoken-word vocal about love for music dominates. It’s a track with the sort of cast-iron, funky groove that has permeated Bushwacka’s music since day one. The ‘Instadub’ dubs out the vocals and takes ‘Heaven On Earth’ in a heady direction.

On the ﬂip, Version One and Version Two of ‘Roger That’ see Bushwacka drop ﬁnely tuned funk-infused Deep House, with the former treading an earthy heads-down path while the latter ups the melody, chord and vocal sample prominence, creating a restrained euphoria throughout.

Bushwacka, aka Matthew Benjamin or Matthew B/Just Be/Makesome Breaksome and countless other aliases, has been a pivotal part of the electronic music scene for over 30 years. While his wildly successful project with Layo Paskin as Layo & Bushwacka! is his most prominent, this former London School Symphony Orchestra percussionist’s roots go much deeper. A pioneer of the nascent Rave and Acid House scenes who went on to be one of the progenitors of Tech House and UK Breakbeat scenes, Bushwacka’s inﬂuence is huge but far from static, with releases on the likes of Classic, Aus and NuGroove in the past few years alone.

For its second release, Providenciales Records was able to unearth a previously unreleased album from the Buster Brown Band, featuring Kelly McNulty (from the Tagg/McNulty Band), Roger Burton (from the Bee's Knees), Jim Casey, Gregg Bissonnette (Ringo Starr's drummer), among others ... Londoners Buster Shuffle are back with a brand-new studio album, announced for release 18th March 2022. The new 10 track album is called 'Go Steady'. After the devastating effects of the pandemic and other recent UK/Europe touring difficulties that have directly impacted UK artists, Buster Shuffle have decided to Crowd Fund the record, using fan power to help them spread the Shuffle gospel far and wide. Jet says 'its been such a tough few years with the pandemic and so we thought we'd ask our loyal fans that have grown with us over 10 years plus, to help us get the album out there. It's not something that we have ever done before but we have seen other bands successfully engage with their fans to release music and we think the time is now for us'. Jet reached out to fellow punk music aficionados in the height of lockdown to release a hard-hitting AA side 7 inch single "Unsung Heroes" for charity. Bands that jumped to Jet's aide to feature on the songs, which raised key funds for the World Health organisation included members of Die Toten Hosen, Flogging Molly, Donots, Hepcat, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rhoda Dakar, Toy Dolls, Talco and more. After this massively successful campaign and a great response from the fanbase, Jet and the boys decided to get back in the studio to put together a new batch of songs that form the upcoming 5th studio album that promises to feature their biggest songs to date. Go Steady will feature 10 tracks of Ska Punk, Rockney tunes including current single "New Badge For My Uniform" and will also feature the highly successful 7"single 'Sucker Punch Blues' which was released back in May 2021. He metaphorically introduces the first LP by the Milan born and bred duo, who share a deep love for music and a great productive connection. They deliver a brilliant eleven-track album, full of diversified sonic influences and quite representative of their bright talent. From start to finish you’ll be sure to find a groove you’ll enjoy. ‘Prometheus’ starts off the EP with an energetic techno track. It’s got a punchy synth over a sub bass with dreamy synth chords and some rockin’ drum programming. The second track ‘Get Down’ is simple yet effective. It’s got that Detroit feel that we all love and enjoy. Not really structured, kind of just flowing. The drums are knocking and the hi- hats are keeping up that energy. It’s a got a rough rugged bass paired with a synth that carries feelings of deep rage and clarity. Tying it all together is the vocal sample. For the title track ‘King Heroin’ Butterbandz teams with his older brother Generation Next to create this gem. It’s got some deep emotion but it will make you move nonetheless. Excellent high energy drum programming, distance reverbed synth pad, catchy piano pattern, in your face lead synth, and a off putting sub bass. These two artists make a dynamic duo. Lastly is ‘OD Soundtrack’ tying together a hard hitting EP with a little laid back tune to take you to a higher more peaceful place. The synth pad carries that smooth calm sound and then the kick is in your face out the gate. It’s got some airy flutes and grooving lead synth. This EP is going to be a staple in the growing legend of Butterbandz.

Butterfred has been releasing his atmospheric hiphop, grime, dub and ambient-driven hybrids on his own Butterfred Productions label since 2017. His is a committed update of a breakbeat perspective through moody and hazy ambiences that touch upon neo-noir and the logic of rhythm within. For his first outing on Meakusma, he provides six short, yet wide-ranging tracks with a lot of forward momentum. Voice samples and ambientish scapes give all tracks direction, deceptively downtempo beats are at times driving, at times phased-out into the background. There is a definite mystique to Butterfred's work as it purposely leaves threads unresolved. The focus is on space, a spatial perspective that infuses his music with concrete references to his influences, be it hiphop, dub or even triphop. His sense of space is often very private, yet makes for a kaleidoscopic view, unafraid to be extensive. Butterfred has a very subdued online presence. This EP is his first music to also be released digitally. His work speaks for itself and does so in fragmented jolts of imagination and reduction.
