Neno Exporta Som’s super-rare compacto 'Deixa A Tristeza’ from 1971, has been high on the want-lists of Brazilian record collectors and DJs for years. This was intensified, along with a wider cult-following, following Floating Points dropping the gem on his amazing 'BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix’ back in 2015. Mr Bongo included 'Deixa A Tristeza’ on our Record Club Vol 1 compilation. Following that came many requests to release it back on its original ‘compacto’ 7” format. So finally, here it is for all to enjoy.
By sheer coincidence, also released in 1971 on Copacabana Records is Agnaldo Rayol's ‘Sumaúma’. A fairly un-known record which has the potential to become an underground classic. This epic track has a psyche break-beat drum and bass groove intro - just asking to be sampled! Along with lush string and horn arrangements and a soaring female/male vocal duet. This beauty has been a firm favourite in the Bongo office since we came across it and hopefully you dig it as much as we do.

An active member of the Barcelona scene and frequent John Talabot collaborator, Arnau Obiols debuts his Velmondo project with his first release for Hivern. In 'Moon Gazing' he draws inspiration from early forms of electronic music in the 70's, whether it's dub, krautrock, industrial, ambient or post-punk, to conjure enigmatic atmospheres through raw and primitive sounds. A multi-instrumentalist and music designer who has played in countless bands, his approach to electronic music production has always been unorthodox. These five tracks were created by experimenting with "analog synths, guitars, many pedals and many acoustic instruments" in his studio at Bellaterra, a suburb located in the outskirts of Barcelona. The 12" comes housed in a sleeve by Barcelona-based designer Marc Mir.

The first official reissue of ‘Good Lovin’’ – a modern soul dancer with a killer groove, heavy low-end, delectable string & horn trade-offs and the husky tones of the inimitable Al Mason, that blew up on the scene in 1980 and now commands eye watering prices between collectors. This dinked 7 inch comes backed with ‘We Still Could Be Together’ off the original promo 12 Inch, with both tracks fully remastered and officially licensed for the first time since its original release.
‘Good Lovin’’ stormed dancefloors back in the early ‘80s taking Al’s undeniable, raspy vocal prowess and stirring it up with an energetic combination of funk guitars, full frontal basslines, on-point harmonies and a perfectly arranged string and brass section. It’s been a rare treasure on the second-hand market with original copies trading hands for £400 so an official reissue will be music to many an ear.
The B side, ‘We Still Could Be Together’, is an emotive ballad filled to the brim with Mason’s tangible passion alongside smoky pianos, cinematic strings and velvety backing vocals. A slow stepper with a bittersweet message behind it.

Following last years Closer EP and Another Place / Under Water the debut album of THIRD WIFE is set to be released on his eponymous label May 2019.
The release is sonically rooted in techno, but spans everything from ambient-trance over fast Copenhagen techno to slow-warped dance music.
Everybody Makes Mistakes contains seven tracks that break new ground for the young Copenhagen based artist. The album kicks off with the ambient-trance track Sleep leading to the title track and centerpiece of the release Everybody Makes Mistakes - a rumbling piece of techno in line with the contemporary fast paced Copenhagen sound. The A-side finishes of with Friends, a bass heavy acid tune with a vocal performance by the artist himself.
The B-side hits the ground running with Water the Planet, a peak time banger with plenty of face melting synths, after which the tempo is dropped significantly with the slow-cooked groover Ste. The ambient piece Sea of Garbage rounds of the vinyl version of the release, while the digital album closes with a blissful vocal hook in the form of Easy.

This is Bolga! is a hymn of praise about the very vital music scene coming out of Bolgatanga. One more extremely obscure 7 inch reissue on EVERLAND MUSIC. Originals are impossible to find, so it actually makes sense to me, to make it available again to all the soul and funk collectors and probably new fans out there. Recorded by the legendary Calvin Arnold, the title track is a groovy, simmering hot funk song as funky as it could be. Early 70s sound, although the music was recorded in 1977. The B side contains a kind of spoken word performance, a phone call, as the title tells you. One guy, certainly the band’s singer, answering a phone call talking to someone whom he refers to as “The Devil” or “Mr. Boogeyman”. There are people in the background laughing. A strange track indeed. The A side indeed is a killer tune and worth the few bucks for this great reissue alone. Funk aficionados will grab a copy anyway.This is a great dancefloor sweeper with a hypnotizing structure, beautiful horn section melodies, an ever pulsating groove, commanding spoken vocals and female singers in between. Clever DJs should grab a copy to make their audience go wild. A nifty little obscurity and worth having for fans of music as black as music can be. Great sound, great interplay, steaming hot performance, this tune has everything you would want and is even a memorable effort. It stands the test of time.

Canada's Solar Phenomena presents three DJ Sotofett remixes of Tokyo producer Mystica Tribe. With a unique and unpredictable approach, Norwegian DJ Sotofett who runs Sex Tags Mania, Amfibia and Wania opens the remix EP with "Ash of Dub Mix", and as the names suggests, a fat dub with huge rubbery kicks, oodles of echoing hits and a spaced out curiousness that sonically draws inwards. "Dub Lawn Dub" eight minutes strips it back with a meandering top line, whimsical, dreamy and encouraging synths contrasting the rickety drums tumbling below. Lastly, "Dub'right Mix" continues the producer trademark loose limbed and jumbled drums, working into a lather while synths squelches and wobbled pads parallely prospects other dimensions. The California-born, London-based producer Rrose is well known for taking dancefloor techno into the uncharted depths of experimentalism and psychedelia while also paying homage to artists of the 20th century avant-garde such as Marcel Duchamp, James Tenney, and Eliane Radigue. "Beware of Shells" (the first solo Rrose release of 2018) is a diverse five track EP that goes to extremes of both aggression and tranquility while remaining strangely cohesive. The EP opens with machine gun bass drums that slowly disintegrate into a swirl of undulating tones and ghostly resonances. Next comes "Incisors" - the most solidly dancefloor track of the EP - which establishes a primal, skeletal rhythmic base upon which snake-like analog synth lines interweave in unpredictable ways. "The Swelling" follows with a short, sparse study in feedback, bent into uneasy melodic patterns. Side B opens with a previously unreleased 2013 remix of the Los Angeles band Deathday, and is perhaps Rrose's most overtly "industrial" track to date, with buzzing, dissonant synth tones that sound somewhere between a foghorn and a distorted guitar. The EP finishes on a contemplative note with "Pecking Order," a microtonal, ritualistic affair conjuring the spirit of Wendy Carlos's little-known masterpiece "Beauty in the Beast."

Hellfish and Bryan Fury, the Axe Gabba Murda Mob, are two of the biggest innovators in hardcore techno. Both have been pushing the genre in all kinds of directions for over two decades providing the pulse for thousands of parties around the globe. So with this in mind, we are honoured to present ‘Baby Eaters’, an earth shaking joyride to the very edge of the human psyche and beyond.

The eponymous A-side strikes terror into the hearts of men, splitting brain cells like atoms with destructive chain reactions of radical distortion and soul-stripping screams. Pure demonic catharsis, sound frequencies don’t get more violent than this. The B side ‘Acid Abyss’ is an LSD stained hardcore techno anthem where eerily cold voices are strangled by crunchy bellowing kick drums and bleeding 303s. Despite still being cranked up, the precision of the fills in this track offsets the chaotic kicks of the A-side, coming off almost subtle in comparison.

This single is for connoisseurs coming lovingly housed with artwork by the wonderful Jim’ll’Paint it, depicting the deadly duo conducting some rather grizzly research in their underworld studio.
