Luka Aron is a German musician and composer of electroacoustic and minimalist music based between Stockholm and Berlin. 'XV Xxvii III XXI IX: Variations & Coda' is his debut vinyl release. Apart from his solo work, he is also a member of the trio Minua (signed to Nils Frahm's Leiter label) and the dream gaze band Roomer. His work was previously described as "thick, impasto layers of slow-moving sound that completely command your attention" in The Guardian.
'XV Xxvii III XXI IX: Variations & Coda' is a four-part suite for an acoustic ensemble (bass clarinet, contrabass, euphonium, foghorn organ, harpsichord, serpent, shō, and trumpet) and analog as well digital synthesis. The result is an album of spiralling compositions which navigate labyrinthine structures of multiple closely related overtones and layers of heavy distortion based on Aron's research and observations of the physiology of hearing through minute listening tests. On the album, the composer collaborates with a number of notable musicians: Mattias Hållsten and Santos Silva (both members of the late CC Hennix' Kamigaku ensemble), just intonation contrabassist Vilhelm Bromander, or Amina Hocine, among others. The release was mastered by Stephan Mathieu at Schwebung Mastering.

Between outside musical projects, pushing past 50 years old and becoming a father for the first time, San Francisco psych-pop legend Kelley Stoltz has spent the past two years steadily writing and recording his 18th album, “La Fleur”. The dazzling 12 song collection will be released in June by Agitated in Europe/UK and Dandy Boy Records in the USA. “La Fleur'' finds Stoltz once again playing nearly all of the instruments on the album- though a new friendship with pop guru Jason Falkner has led to Falkner appearing on two songs, “Hide In A Song” and “Make Believer” respectively. There’s the requisite 60’s meets 80’s pop rock confections that Stoltz favors with a new focus on out front vocals and perhaps a bit shinier production. Pandemic era blues, politics and fatherhood are lyrical touchstones throughout. The album’s first single “Reni’s Car” is the jangle rock lead single based on an actual event of Kelley riding around Manchester in the Stone Roses drummer's car. The accompanying music video was shot (partially) on location. “About Time” marries Twin Peaks synths to Fleetwood Mac and Avalon era Roxy Music in a cautionary tale to Stoltz's young daughter. “Human Events” puts revolutionary prose to a Moody Blues strum that floats off into Osees territory …and do I hear a nod to Gershwin in there? During the 2010’s Kelley played live as a sideman with Rodriguez and Echo & the Bunnymen, as the 2020’s dawned he was invited to support Pavement on their big reunion tour. He’s also been heard playing drums live with Robyn Hitchcock as well as adding sitar to Hitchcock's last two albums. In 2022, Stoltz was championed with a live appearance on Marc Riley’s Bbc6 show. As producer, he has recorded the new album by Brigid Dawson formerly of the Ohsees. In my ears, Stoltz rarely does any wrong, and these comparisons are only just that little fruit to get you curious- he is still one of a kind. In addition to the unique musical proposals and the large body of work that they have developed separately, Amelia Cuni and Werner Durand have been performing together as a duo as well as in collaborations (Tonaliens, Born of Six) for more than 20 years. Fusing her Indian Raga singing in the Dhrupad style with his minimalist and experimental approach, they have expanded the reach of their soundworlds as well as proposed new paths for contemporary music.In this occasion, Uli Hohmann joins them in a range of hand drums from the Middle East and North Africa, plus a dulcimer-sounding hammered guitar. Durand's various self-made wind instruments, soprano sax, and blown kalimba shine along with Cuni's astounding vocals, which are sometimes sung through a mirliton (a medieval type of kazoo). Clearing is the trio's first published recording.

Seconds of Thirst, recorded in one session at Uli´s studio in Bavaria in early 2014, is truly a conjuring where distinctive balances come to gather. A deep drone unfolds patiently in a hypnotic manner, comprised by Werner's characteristic PVC clarinets, a hammered guitar played by Hohmann, and subtle electronic tones. Above all, Amelia's singing voice, filtered through the mirliton, drifts buzzing along the gradually shifting harmonic waves, meandering through serpentine melodic lines and microtonality.

Sounds Familiar is celebrating a decade in dance music by releasing 3 LP’s throughout 2023. Titled “Familiar Sounds”, after vol 1 released in April 23 which featured the likes of Dego Kamma & Masalo, Aleqs Notal Feat Anu, Kai Alcé, Retromigration and Hu go LX, the second volume of the trilogy will be out on September 1st. Collecting six new tracks that join the dots between elastic acid house and candle - lit piano jazz, Familiar Sounds Volume 2 , features Kaidi Tatham, Carista, Gigi Testa, Zopelar, Alex F rom Tokyo and K15, on a 12” that reaches into all corners of the roster’s electronic jazz - influenced sound. The album begins with Kaidi Tatham’s upstart summer anthem ‘Misguided Youts’. Built on a piano vamp and an infectious horn line, the track eases in to a consummate piece of future fusion, stirring the melting pot of London’s jazz and broken beat heritage into the kind of soulful jam that has rightly earned him his legendary reputation. Things take a deep dive on track two with Carista tweaking the di als to deliver a slice of rubbery four - to - the - floor dancefloor business. Rattling snap - back snares give her track ‘Love Me Right’ a kind of early hours dynamism, the dream - like vocal sample drifting across a room of loose and swaying bodies. Gigi Testa ro unds out the A - side with shuffling outernational house track ‘Summer Snow’. Integrating his passion for global rhythms, the Rush Hour affiliate and Organica record shop owner channels the shimmering opulence of the Amalfi coast on what is an indulgent boat party of lush pads and sun - dappled melodies. Opening the B - side, Zopelar delivers the jazzy, disco - infused house of ‘Arapuca’. There’s a skittish energy to Zopelar’s latest offering, which wriggles and jives between muted trumpet improvisations, George D uke’s ‘A Brazilian Love Affair’ and the kind of in - the pocket synth work he is known to have among his arsenal of musical skills. Up next, Alex From Tokyo weaves in the striped back influence of his former Berlin home into the techno - pop landscape of his Japanese upbringing, heading in to go out on the cosmic club cut ‘Wa Galaxy’. Closing out the LP is DJ, producer and man of many monikers, K15. Putting on his jazz hat perhaps most associated with his work as Culross Close, ‘Autumn’ is a solo piano balla d that brings the exuberance of high summer to a reflective end, demonstrating just how varied and open - minded the world of Sounds Familiar is. Lady Blackbird now flies the nest, with the divine Earth Angel swooping into her place. A seminal, reclusive, heavenly voiced singer, also from Yorkshire and with deep roots in the soul and dub scenes… And no, it's not Lisa Stansfield! A project that has its roots way back in the Sheffield’s Blues parties and Jive Turkey itself. The club being a home to all forms of exciting new Black music, from ’85 through to the early days of the UK’s dance explosion. It sees Parrot take all that he has achieved, written and learnt over the years at the cutting edge of electronic, dance-inflected, production and DJing returning to those heady days of down tempo, body moving, speaker shaking music that would move the British underground soul/funk scene in the mid to late 80’s. On his sophomore album, Urfuglen, Christian Winther draw lines back to the post-punk era’s way of combining contemporary impulses with artistic sensibility. And following up on his debut album from last year, «The Clearing» (Fysisk Format), noise and experimentation is part of the picture also here, but with a genuine desire to find the beautiful moment, the shimmering harmony.

«It becomes the evocative sound of joy, immensely uplifting and markedly anti-depressive.», writes the danish art critic and writer Susanne Christensen on the album’s liner notes.

Behind the title and the Norwegian lyrics, Tor Ulvens surreal debut «The shadow of the primordial bird» from 1977 shines through. In Winther’s, like in Ulven’s, fabulating universe, surrealism’s instinctive, inward-looking and dreamy pictures are used as a way of processing the often cold and ruthless ravaging happening out there. But most importantly; to remind us of the connections we have with each other.

The «flying» band consist of some of the country’s most open minded, or post-punk-thinking, musicians from bands like Broen, Valkyrien, Monkey Plot and Mall Girl. Anja Lauvdal on synths/piano, Tuva Syvertsen on fiddles/vocals, Ina Sagstuen on vocals/electronics, Magnus Nergaard on bass and Veslemøy Narvesen on drums, in addition to Winther on guitars and voice. They each have strong signature expressions and contribute to an open soundscape full of spice, surprises and spontaneity. The intuitive is striking, and the record is mainly recorded live in the studio.

Urfuglen was born as a commissioned work for the edgy Oslo-festival Motvind’s 5 year anniversary, a perfect arena to present forward thinking music that can stand on its own completely free from the established genres. Within the open festival umbrella rock, free jazz, poetry, protest and spontaneity naturally coexist, and Urfuglen is exactly that. Last year’s lockdown turned the live premiere into a studio premiere, the musicians exhibiting a strong improvised attitude on top of Winther’s alternative rock compositions.

Although noise and experimentation is part of the picture, the influence from Brazilian music, or the way the guitar somehow found a new melodic balance in the 90s Chicago scene, seems just as strong. Contrasts find a harmony here, listen to Valkyrien’s Tuva Syvertsen singing harmonies with Winther on «Urfuglen, Pt. 2», or the acoustic guitars on «Marmor» intertwining like something Jim O'Rourke and Gastr Del Sol companion David Grubbs would come up with in the 90s. The musical relations are many; in addition to the post-punk-mood, threads go out to Brazilian Tropicalia, Japanese psychedelia and Oslo’s improv scene, who most of the musicians on the record are a part of.

Formed in Mislata, Valencia, in 1977 by four teenager friends (Vicente Feijóo on lead vocals & lead guitar, Eduardo Feijóo on bass & vocals, Javier Herviás on guitar and Jesús Martinez on drums), Zarpa Rock (“Claw Rock”), later shortened to Zarpa, evolved from a group called Wolframio. After spending most of 1977 learning how to play their instruments, they were approached by a management agency called Zeus Rock, joining their roster in company of bands like Doble Zero. Under Zeus Rock guidance, the band did their first recording: a conceptual album titled “Los 4 Jinetes del Apocalipsis” (The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse) which due to low studio budget, was recorded “live in the studio” in a single one-hour-and-a-half take. After the bankruptcy of Zeus Rock, the proposed album project was shelved. Zarpa shared stage with legends like Ian Gillan and later on, in the heyday of Heavy Metal in Spain, they managed to release two more LP’s which established them as a very popular band, even opening for Barón Rojo, true Metal Stars in the early 80’s. They’re still in active.

Born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y., Doom has been into the culture since the early 80's from being a Graff writer, a B-Boy, a DJ and a Hip Hop producer. He has been in the studio with numerous artists all over the globe. His latest album "Temple of Doom" was a great success and received positive reviews worldwide. It featured many veteran MC's, including Craig G, Large Professor, Prince Po, Krumbsnatcha, Blaq Poet, and Grand Daddy I.U. to name a few.

It was last year, when talks about this record started. Doom invited Reks and Blacastan to create what was originally planned a 7" single. After a few months of brainstorming, and organizing the content, together with Doom we decided to extend it to an EP format.

Though again, produced using the mighty SP1200, we present to you a completely different record than all of our previous releases, our first 10" vinyl.

'City Of God' featuring Reks is a powerful narrative about the violent state of affairs in many of America's cities. Inspired by the movie 'Cidade De Dios' by Fernando Meirelles, Reks gives the listener an in-depth descriptive about everyday events one has to experience in order to survive in a tough, concrete jungle. Doom's precisely chopped piano stabs complement his lyrics, adding further gloominess to the track.
There are two versions of 'City Of God' on this record, the original on Side A, and the "Park Bench Mix" featured on Side B.

On 'Transmitting Live', Blacastan schools all wanna-be rappers on what it takes to be a true, hard to the bone MC. The charismatic poet, Blac brings us right to the centre of action in a crime-filled neighborhood, where gang violence is omnipresent. His explosive delivery and gripping storytelling blends perfectly with Doom's grimey, head-nodding instrumental.

The last track on the EP is a bonus beat called "SP Madness". Like in all of the instrumentals on the 10", here Doom also utilized only 10 seconds of sampling time.

When Chester Watson debuted in the mid-2010s with verbose, technically precise music indebted to MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, and more obscure artists from the stratosphere and the blogosphere, it was as if he was simultaneously from the past and future. Before he was old enough to legally drink, there were “Best Of,” rarities compilations, and .zip files floating through the ether. Whenever industry prospectors earmarked him as the next big thing, he disappeared back underground, only to reemerge sharper, leaner, weirder. Though only 26, the St. Louis-born rapper and producer has seen enough for several lifetimes—and raps as if he’s tapped into many more. But after a few years of highs, lows, and traumatic odysseys, he was able to stare straight into the abyss and conquer it. This regained confidence is exhibited on fish don’t climb trees, the largely self-produced new album that reaffirms him as one of rap’s great auteurs. While working on "fish", he vowed to be more true to the emotions and experiences he’d endured. Being true to those fractured, discordant feelings requires a prismatic approach. And so you get fish’s exhilarating hairpin turns: from downtempo dub (“bora bora”) to 808s rattling through a haunted house (“tourniquet”), beats that sound as if they’re molting into new shapes in real time (the two-song suite of “daze” and “grey theory”) to ones that that plunge to the bottom of a pocket (“spirits”). The album’s title comes from the maybe-apocryphal Einstein quote, about how a fish judged by its ability to climb trees will “spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” For Watson, this meant embracing the cheery first half of the quote (“Everybody is a genius”), but also being cognizant of the dark undercurrents that flow just beneath seemingly innocent misjudgments and mis-categorizations.

A small chunk of early 80's Swedish DIY underground history from the legendary but rarely heard Fysisk Fostran. Based in the small town of Stenungsund north of Gothenburg and roughly active between 1980 and 1984, the group released a few cassettes as well as a fabled 7" that due to mysterious complications only exist as a testpressing in 4 copies. Fysisk Fostran were inspired by the early UK industrial sound as well as post-punk and synth music, this combined with the young age of the bandmembers and general small town boredom resulted in a rather unhinged and wild sound. While comparisons at times could be made with other early Swedish industrial/cassette culture freaks like Enhänta Bödlar, Engürdetz or En Halvkokt I Folie, one could argue that Fysisk Fostran stood out thanks to their obstinate will to rock out in the midst of all the rudimentary, electronic experimentations. The crude fidelity of their recordings only adds to the utterly bizarre atmosphere.

The LP compiles the tracks from the 7" as well as choice cuts from the cassette releases, stuff so scarce that it barely existed even back then. Original sources transfered and mastered for vinyl by Linus at Elementstudion during 2023. The LP comes with an insert featuring liner notes by Marko Gillingsmark of Levande Begravd. Cover jackets stamped with the same stamp used for the 7" sleeve back in 1984. Edition of 500 copies.

Malcolm R (Aka El Indio Jiux) is a MC hailing from Iquique Chile. Inspired by Oldschool HipHop and Jazz, he started playing the sax and rapping with a very early age and released his first mixtape "Técnicas de supervivencia" in 2014, recorded by Patricio Cabezas member of the group "Cerro" and in 2017 the mixtape "InI speech" recorded by Leinad Producciones. In 2021 he released “The Motherland EP” alongside Waseem a political activist and rapper from Munich, Germany. His raps deal with the social problems of present-day Chile as well as injustice, inequality and racism undeveloped countries are facing worldwide. His goal is to mobilize people and make these problems visible to those who can’t see this, or just ignore them on a regular basis.

Now in 2022 he releases his first full length album “Drapetomania” via German label Pigeon Records. For the album he has been working with the Chilean producers Agresonido from the Reclaf Crew, Oscar Guerrero from the group Bajo linaje and Crenshett from his hometown of Iquique and the Munich producers L One from the ATP Crew, Tony Crisp and DJ Rude Teen from ArOzA Crew.

The album title derives its name from Drapetomania, a supposed mental illness that was hypothesized as the cause of enslaved Africans fleeing captivity. Slave life was so pleasant, the official view was, that only the mentally ill would want to run away. The title shell implicate that the people of Chile are not free yet and need to stand up for they rights. They live under a flag that does not represent the majority of the country but discriminates them on economical and racial basis. His music is characterized by straight forward lyrics, very frontal messages with heavy pan-african political content and hard beats.

Helsinki quartet Alder Ego, led by drummer/composer Joonas Leppänen, returns with their new album "iii" on 9 April on We Jazz Records. A follow up to their successful 2018 We Jazz album, "iii" finds Leppänen and his bandmates extracting more depth and punch out of their tenor sax + trumpet + double bass + drums setup, which echoes the greats in the game, such as Ornette Coleman, yet adds a readily identifiable edge to it all. Angel-Ho proclaimed virtuoso, also known as Angelo Valerio/Deep In The Pussy/Ruffle Queen, and a co-founder of NON Worldwide, is in celebration of what makes them uniquely queer. With a limited run of their vinyl titled Red Devil, Angel-Ho presents an array of classical electronic inspired cacophony. This is a chance for the symphony to be contextualized, since its release not having any word spoken by the artist a Beyoncé moment if you will. Red Devil is an autobiographical mix where by Angel presents the realities of the mind, ones ability to shift their perspectives of the world, through applying the principles of balance in their music. All which is deeply connected to the experiences queer and trans people encounter daily, be it personal demons to greeting violence in public to the reasoning of joy among the chaos, Angel describes it as transformation. So many people live in fear of transformation and I am not necessarily making it a point to gender, sexuality, but not limited to recent political or social acts in 2017. I enjoy transformation like many of my fellow artists around the globe. Everyone forgets that I studied art and have done performances prior to the release of Ascension. Being able to see beyond my mind and make things tangible is a mirror of how I move through space, time, and transformation, wasting no time in doing so I want to be the best I can be because in doing so I see the cause and effect of being true to ones nature, to do what makes you happy with what youve got. Red Devil is led by a fierce orchestra and choir, of which Angel-Ho visualises animates in their dreamscape, not being reduced to its potential as a digital sound file. It is inspired greatly by the collision of music styles and genres and true to the proceeding agency of Angels own envisioning of a, moffie only, klopse troupe roaming through the neighbourhood at 2am in the Summer with their sharpened instruments ghostly parading the echo of their afternoon rehersals. Red Devil becomes a celebration of all that is denied by ourselves and others. The self-saboteur, as RuPaul Andre Charles heralds, is what is vanquished through ones ability to name it and deconstruct the information as to why one would perceive a dismal perception of reality what halts ones ability to achieve and excel. It is through this action we can equip ourselves with the tools we need to perceiver in a world where we living queer, breathing trans, bodies have to everyday prepare ourselves for the worst when leaving the solitude of our homes and safety of our family.

This EP contains six tracks previously released as three 7" singles in 2003, and have not been available for almost two decades. Emerson Kitamura played his favourite songs from different eras and places with his organ equipped with bass pedals and accompanied by the legendary drum box TR-808.

Having had a long career playing keyboards in bands and sessions, Kitamura came to the fore in Japan with his self released 7" on his Bubblingnotes label. In 2018, he burst onto the international scene with his EP for EM Records, The Countryside Is Great, which gave him an opportunity to stretch out his inimitable style to make a bass/dub re-work of the Thai hit. The EP also debuted his collaboration with the guitarist/singer/songwriter/ mmm, with their cover of George McCrae's Rock Your Baby. The duo went on to release their LP Chasing Giants on Kitamura's label, and to grace Europe with a few legendary gigs.

This EP represents Kitamura's roots, with two Jackie Mittoo covers, some jazz evergreens, and a stellar version of the Lou Rawls classic You'll Never Find.

Jinjé steers his work across various genres not out of a desire to be referential, but out of a necessity to explore the peculiar spaces that sit between. “Nobody Move!”, so says Philippe Doray and his Asociaux Associés (the Antisocial Associates)! Having dynamited the end of the 70s with two radical albums – Ramasse-Miettes Nucléaires in 1976 & Nouveaux Modes Industriels in 1978, both reissued by Souffle Continu – Doray still hadn’t finished singing. Throughout the next decade he began his Composant compositeur which would document the “second period”, as he calls it, of his Asociaux Associés.

The record includes new schizo-electro songs which make the most of his association with Laurence Garcette, who also plays all sorts of keyboards. A prolongation of the first period of the Asociaux Associés, the duo updates Doray’s poetry: in reaction to the current overcast atmosphere, here are some hallucinatory fantasies to the rhythm of an infernal circle dance (« Le petit géant ») or an ecstatic waltz (“Bombés fluo”) or even coded messages stuffed into bottles and thrown into space (“Secoue le flipeur”, “Choc d’amour”).

On the bonus CD there are further iconoclastic examples: rare recordings (unpublished or even “inaudible”) of the Asociaux Associés but also by Crash, a duo that Doray formed with Thierry Müller (Ilitch, Ruth). At the controls of their experiment- bending machine the musicians multiply the possibilities: peripheral rock, arias in orbit, broken swing, industrial mantras and other joyful falsities. Enough to make you lose your mind? No... as Philippe Doray promised: it is the “jackpot qui frissonne” (the shivering jackpot) which is there to excite.

Fate is a funny old thing. One day in 2011, DJ/producer Tom Trago found himself sharing a train journey with Steven Van Lummel, a DIY musician, artist and co-founder of PIP, an underground nightclub and cultural hub in The Hague. Over the course of a rambling, open-ended conversation, the idea of making music together came up; a few weeks later, Trago travelled to van Lummel’s place – a former industrial unit that was now home to a rotating cast of artists and musicians – and didn’t leave for a month.

Cossetted away from the outside world in van Lummel’s loft, with multi-instrumentalists Janneke Nijhuijs and Wieger Hoogendorp joining them to create a musical four-piece, Mega Wega was born. Over the course of four weeks, the quartet embarked on an almost continuous creative session punctuated only by impromptu parties and mixing sessions. Life-long bonds were made and over 70 tracks recorded before the mundanity of day-to-day life came calling.

For one reason or another, the project never saw the light of day, with tracks sat gathering dust on hard drives for the best part of a decade. During the madness and loneliness of the Covid-19 pandemic, Trago rediscovered the tracks. Delighted by what he heard, a collective decision was made to add finishing touches and release the resultant album on van Lummel’s PIP Records imprint. Further instruments and vocals were added over two days at Hoogendorp’s studio, before mutual friend Tom Ruig got on board to mix the album.

So, what can you expect from Haunted, Mega Wega’s debut album? First and foremost, it’s the sound of pure creative expression – the distillation of a freewheeling, no-holds-barred, spontaneous musical journey variously inspired by the do-it-yourself ethos of musical counterculture, shared inspirations and influences, epic jam sessions, distant stars (Wega, sometimes known as Fidis or ‘the harp star’, is one of the brightest in the night sky), imaginary journeys across dusty deserts, and the comradeship of four new friends.

Enchanting and alluring, it’s an album that gleefully denies lazy categorization and ploughs its own eclectic, atmospheric musical furrow in vivid sonic detail. It’s a collective exploration of heady musical eclecticism unified by saucer-eyed vocals, low-slung bass, loose-limbed beats, sweaty percussion workouts and hazy electric piano motifs.

Haunted begins with the woozy and hallucinatory slow-burn soundscape of ‘Get Things Done’ – an effects laden shuffle akin to lying flat on your back tripping under an intense desert sun – and ends with the creepy, mind-mangling post-punk funk of ‘Brain Carpaccio’; in between, you’ll find spaced-out, low-tempo lo-fi soul (‘Move Around’, ‘Haunted’), deep and off-kilter opioid jazz (‘Copenhagen’), intoxicating psychedelia (‘Last Night on Earth’), piano-laden dream-pop epics (‘Shake Or Fall’), and Latin-infused, percussion-powered hedonism (‘Chopping Heads’).

Born out of spontaneous collaboration and immersive, almost endless recording sessions, Haunted is an album shot through with imagination and boundless energy, captured for posterity by four friends and collaborators at the top of their game.

The pendulum of life swings from simple to complicated and swoops across everything in between. If the devil is in the details, the true meaning is in the grey areas. Whilst the quest for nuance is noble, sometimes, it pays to be intentional with your target and get to the point. For their first collaborative project, Str8 Shot, Gary "Sivion" Watson and Maurice "malex" Alexander aim, fire and spit with a barrage of hard-hitting Hip Hop that will inspire new and old heads alike. Across the beats and rhymes, the duo showcases kin-like chemistry, which extracts depth from simplicity. The opening salvo on Str8 Shot is like a special ops assignment meets manifesto. Heavy Gunner introduces MALEX's spaced-out Blade Runner-esque bounce, where Sivion shoots for the stars while swinging "a hot sword of the spirit". The experimental production and Sivion's staccato style sound like a chauffeur-driven ride in the Delorean from Back To The Future. Sivion then links up with long-time collaborator Braille and the Dallas freestyle king, Infored, on the latest single, Come Through Me. All three pilots plot a flight course to a higher level of mental liberation. MALEX's mischievous bleeps and blips encapsulate push-and-pull energy. The cheeky bop, in turn, opens up Sivion, Braille and Infored to go all the way in with a call and response flows while calling out pretentious folks prone to take the bait of what this world supposedly has to offer. The firing squad take a breather to reload their bullets on Straight Cool featuring Mokah Soulfly. Sivion, Malex and their fellow gunners shoot the breeze straight to the milky way and write bars on Mars. With live bass from the masterful Nigel Rivers (Erykah Badu, Royce Da 5'9" and Eric Roberson), sonically, the track converges with genuine reflections of their come-ups, tinges of otherworldliness and dashes of a five-star resort turn-down service. Melts In Your Mind is the mercurial new LP by Healing Force Project, aka Italian producer Antonio Marini.

An amorphous, shapeshifting, intangible proposition, Melts In Your Mind represents Healing Force Project at it’s most fluid and alchemical yet, a melon-twisting amalgam of jazz, dub and acid house tropes mulched and rearranged in inimitable style. Seemingly live and erratic polyrhythms, liquid basslines and expressive roving keys combine with kitchen sink sample hits and rogue licks for a thrilling, constantly shifting, alive sound. It’s music that’s difficult to grasp on first or even fourth listen, and as such continues to reward on repeat. Rather than going somewhere, tracks just go, rarely repeating motifs but riffing on, digging into and working out.

Behavior Of Waves sets the scene discretely enough, a simple bass refrain that is eventually overcome with an urgent rhythm that stumbles over itself into a post-dub cavern. The title track resembles a scramble of disparate earthly sounds - lurking synthesizer, restless popping drums, West African balafon and a muted vocal sample - sucked into the same swirling black hole and dropped into another dimension, completely cohesive. Equator acts as loose-limbed palette cleanser, an unmoored drift gently driven forward by an insistent snare roll and improv piano stabs. Inharmonious Layer stands out on the record for being less reliant on samples and by it’s relatively predictable unfolding, a queasy acid lope from the darkest corner of a deviant dancefloor, while on Diaphonization Marini flexes his aptitude with drum sampling, a bouncing excursion in sampled loops interrupted by unironic jazz cliches, the product of an omnivorous lover of the genre’s high and low. Melts In Your Mind closes on the droning tambura, ethereal pads and scattered rhythm of Two Waves In The Dark, a suitably metaphysical and ultimately peaceful resting place for a record that challenges perceptions from the outset.

Marini has released records as Healing Force Project on Firecracker, Berceuse Heroique, Bedouin and most recently Beat Machine Records. He’s based in Treviso, Italy.
