The idea for this project came from me noticing the landscape of how fathers are represented in hip hop. Outside of Will Smith’s classic “Just the Two Of Us” and a handful of others, the majority of the records in hip hop that speak on fatherhood have a negative connotation. I wanted to change that narrative, as it’s not the only one that exists. Myself being a father, there are a ton of others like me who are engulfed in hip hop and are also 24 hour a day dads, whose kids mean the world to them. I wanted to showcase that. I started this project in august of 2019 as one song, and it grew into an entire project within a week, and I’ve been sitting on this idea since the summer/fall, waiting for Father’s Day weekend to come around.

This is a conceptual EP, where each song is a story that holds hands with the ones before and after it, all about my life as a kid, growing up with my father always in my life, and how that’s now shaped me as a father myself. It’s named “Milestones”, after my son Miles, and also signifying the milestones that us dads reach in life as we grow into fatherhood. Description : Three continents collide on 'Runaway', the latest single from Mozambican rapper / vocalist Simba Sitoi, featuring Canada's Kardinal Offishall, remixed by the UK's Chris Read. Simba Sitoi is a key player in the Hip Hop scene in his native Mozambique, where his vocals in both English and Portugese have graced releases including a full length album for UK stalwarts BBE Records. Kardinal Offishall is a 5 x winner at the Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) and has collaborated with a host of artists including the likes of Scott Storch, Sean Paul and Eminem. London based producer Chris Read's production and remix credits include Grammy Award winning vocalist Bilal, BBC New Music Award winners Maylight and Hip Hop legends The Pharcyde.

The back story to this cross-continental collaboration features A Tribe Called Quest, Mozambique's colonial past and Nando's chicken. In 2018, Nando's flew Kardinal Offishal to Mozambique to film a short documentary exploring the history of the restaurant's Peri Peri sauce, an accompaniment to grilled chicken first developed by Portugese settlers in Mozambique. While filming, Kardinal visited Simba's studio to find out more about the regional music scene. The two vocalists hit it off and, in an unplanned studio session, 'Runaway', a track inspired by the UK's Broken Beat sound, was recorded. Simba had previously worked with Chris Read when he remixed Simba and Milton Gulli's cover version of A Tribe Called Quest's 'Scenario' for BBE Records back in 2013. Chris was enlisted to remix the track and has delivered a version which features Broken drums, a Latin flavored bassline and horns that add Dub feel.

Brooklyn-based rapper Half-A-Mill climbed his way up from the underground in the late ‘90s with an initial breakthrough on 1997’s one and only album by The Firm, the supergroup featuring Nas, AZ, Nature and Foxy Brown, alongside producers Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.

After this high-profile appearance, Half-a-Mill then started setting the stage for the release of his debut album “Milíon” with the single ”Thug Ones" which featured Noreaga, Kool G Rap, and Musolini. “Milíon” became an underground classic, featuring guest appearances by AZ, Kool G Rap, Musalini, Noreaga, Ali Vegas and Spice 1, with production by Just Blaze, The Neptunes, DJ Scratch, and DJ Ali among others.

Tragedy struck in 2003 when the rapper was shot dead at his home in Brooklyn. Tuff Kong now proudly moves to keep his legacy alive by releasing Milíon on vinyl for the first time ever.
