So when the Pseudos made contact about their amazing 'Only Built for Food and Drinks' LP, the original version of the album had a rough track entitled 'Five Years' on it. The joint blew my head clean off. I was like "You got any more joints on that tip?" and they were like "Well we also have 'The Winter' that we've been playing around with." So I suggested an EP of similar material and what did we get? A full album of adaptations of tracks that all of us grew up on. In fact I got brought on board on an executive production tip and we began to go through a selection of tracks to "adapt". The resulting project is one that I'm proud to have my name on. The last time I exec produced something was Three Sinister Syllables back in 2004 and I believe that this record is a suitable successor to that.



This record does everything I'm interested in, in the way it covers [no pun] multiple intellectual property rights issues with satire, style and a large dollop of hip hop sauce. I've never heard anything like it and over the last year or so it has become one of my fav projects on the label. Check the snippets - this is a special project y'all....

Kaiju is the floor-shaking, speaker-knocking new album from Canibus, one of hip-hop’s greatest lyricists who continues to push himself as an artist. It also serves as his first solo release since 2015’s excellent Time Flys, Life Dies... Phoenix Rise, which was produced entirely by Bronze Nazareth. It’s only fitting, then, that ‘Bus would once again work with only one producer for this project, which finds him spitting mind-melting bars over beats from Oxnard, CA beatsmith/rapper Body Bag Ben.

The 11 tracks on Kaiju strike a balance between personal experiences and striking grandiosity that ‘Bus expertly crafts with his pen. They also all boast the rewind-worthy lyrics you’d want from one of the genre’s most creative and truly timeless talents. You can hear this immediately on the opening track, “Curmudgeon,” where he spits raw bars with his signature growl over BBB’s monstrous production. That vibe carries on throughout the record, from the snarling, DMX-assisted “Entameta (Remix)” through to the hip-hop epic of “Verzuz.”

This is truly Canibus at his best, blending surrealist wordplay and turns-of-phrase with sharp, witty commentary about the state of the world today. Even better, he’s backed by some of BBB’s best production to date, which rumbles and stomps as much as it sounds like it’s covered in a thick layer of grime. It’s much like the inspiration for the album’s title—a giant monster (kaiju, in Japanese) like Godzilla rising from a slumber, ready to wreak havoc on his opponents.

This LP finally brings a Clipping fan-favorite, 2016’s Wriggle, onto vinyl in an improved, expanded version that features new art, previously unreleased remixes, and a track that’s exclusive to the vinyl format. The original, digital-only Wriggle EP was six tracks that weren’t finished in time to make it onto the group’s 2014 Sub Pop debut, Clppng. For “Shooter,” Clipping recorded themselves firing fifteen different guns, the sounds of which exclusively constituted the beat’s drums, augmented only by a synthesized tone-row. The verses referenced the well-worn technique of “hashtag rap,” but instead of using it to boast about the rapper’s personal wealth and masculine prowess, Clipping put forth imagistic narratives of three violent encounters. True to much of the group’s music, “Shooter” was an attempt to reframe a familiar style and test the limits of its formal capabilities. “Hot Fuck No Love” contains what might be the most explicit verse to date from Clipping’s favorite New Jersey rapper Cakes Da Killa. The EP’s title track, “Wriggle,” was built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song “Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel” by Whitehouse, transforming William Bennett’s torturous imperative into a instructional dance-floor banger. “Wriggle” and “Shooter” have become classic Clipping tracks and staples of their live show.

After a short digression with High Jon on the beats, Peter Manns is reunited with his Brother of another Mother – Thelonious Coltrane – and they take the standard of the last album (2019) with „ii'nd“ to the next level.

Everybody having seen those two on stage together knows about the energetically explosive chemistry of this extraordinary tag team. Their second LP is characterised by an evolution in sound and lyrics. Thelonious Coltrane’s productions cover an enormous spectrum between perfectly picked, overcompressed loops and brutally driving drumsets. With his self-critical, reflectiv, but also technically phenomenal lyrics, Peter Manns forms coherent songs, which not seldomly exceed the four-minute-mark. Lovingly arranged, with suitable citations and enchantingly applied vocal contributions from Kasia Konstance, many songs of the LP become modern RnB-highlights.

Mainly influenced by "the most beautiful ugly sound in the world,” introduced by D-Styles in "Phantazmagorea" in 2002, DJ Swet (Spain) has been perfecting his artisanal music production method for over fifteen years, exploiting the art of turntablism to orchestrate his soundtracks through scratching. After meeting Milano Constantine in person in the summer of 2018, and collaborating on "Body Bags" (Swet's latest work, alongside N-Wise Allah), it is now with Milano himself that he shares this album.

In “Block Work” Milano Constantine paints Spike Lee like scenes with strokes of psychological terror over the brittle and crumpled musical canvas provided by the Barcelona native Dj and producer. With the street cred of an OG and the hunger of a rookie, in "Block Work" the Manhattan emcee and Ditc affiliate eloquently recounts the experiences, feelings and visions of a runner (metaphorically and visually depicted by Rubens Ziontifik as a chess pawn), who gets involved in all sorts of situations caused by crime and illegal activities taking place throughout the blocks.

The album is completed with vocal interventions by Dano and N-Wise Allah, arrangements by Peter Party, guitar by Enric Peinado (track3), trumpet by Raynals Colom (track5), additional drums by Hoss Benitez (tracks 8 and 9), Rubens Ziontifik’s artworks, and mixing and mastering by the recently Latin Grammy nominated Harto Rodríguez. "Block Work" is edited and distributed by the Barcelona based label Architechs Records.

It's hard to believe it's taken this long for a proper retrospective of legendary Los Angeles collective CVE. "We Represent Billions" is a crucial portrait of one of the West Coast's most low-key influential crews - a hydra-like collective of rappers, producers, designers and engineers who were key members of the Good Life Cafe's open mic scene, going on to inspire artists like Jurassic 5, Kendrick Lamar amongst many other. Initially called Chillin Villain Posse before morphing into Chillin Villain Empire in the late 1980s, they eventually centered around the core trio of Riddlore, NgaFsh and Tray-Loc. The crew were years ahead of their time, self-producing music without samples and pioneering a stream of consciousness lyrics that still sound fresh and innovative. CVE were self-sufficient and motivated from the beginning, named "Chillin Villains" because that's how they were perceived by white America.This social motivation was channeled into their groundbreaking performances at Good Life Cafe, the South Central session that evolved into Project Blowed and later on came to influence LA club night 'Low End Theory'. It was chronicled by Ava Duvernay, herself an MC in short-lived duo Figures of Speech, in her "This is the Life" documentary, where she interviewed CVE alongside Jurassic 5, Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract Rude and Busdriver.On "We Represent Billions", we're treated to a snapshot of the CVE sound from 1993-2003, their most prolific era. The retrospective collects music from the handful of albums the crew released on their own Afterlife Recordz label (mostly as limited edition CD-R's) plus many previously unreleased tracks and highlights their untethered eccentric creativity and sheer breadth of influence. anuary 26, 2004, dDamage releases their third album: Radio Ape. It's the striking arrival of a monkey that imposes itself by its strength and power. Behind the name dDamage are two Frenchmen: Frederic and Jean-Baptiste Hanak, two brothers who will have the particularity of forming one of the most atypical and singular groups of the French musical landscape at the beginning of this century.At first sight, it seems quite delicate to classify the duo's creation in a particular genre, as their influences are so multifaceted. If Frederic hails from Hip-Hop background, Jean-Baptiste is more influenced by Rock: two different sensitivities that come together to create a work full of originality. Thus, we come across twisted hip-hop samples, tortuous electro layers, modified voices and hi-gain guitars. An album that could be an explosive mix between Autechre and Sonic Youth. It was therefore not surprising to see this record released in 2004 on " Planet-Mu ", home of Mike Paradinas (u-ziq), a glorious English school of "Intelligence Dance Music" and "breakbeat" who produced the likes of Venetian Snares, Luke Vibert or Richard D. James.Fiercely noisy, but nevertheless well rooted in the hip-hop movement, dDamage's music begins by puzzling, then ends by carrying the listener away. Thick and compact, the apparent brutality of Radio Ape often gives way to melodies that are just as absorbing and noticeable. The two halves of Tampa rap duo They Hate Change_Dre (he/him) and Vonne (they/them)_first came together in front of the apartment complex where they both lived as teens. Dre had just moved down from Rochester, NY; Vonne was trying to sell him bad weed. It was clear from the start that the two listen to music differently from most people_they're sonic omnivores, obsessive deep-divers, lovers of rare and radical sounds. Starting as kids trawling the internet for tracks, they've been collecting music from around the world and across the decades, amassing a shared sonic knowledge so deep that "encyclopedic" barely begins to cover it _ not just the East Coast hip-hop that Dre grew up on, or the hyperlocal bass-music variants like jook (the Gulf Coast's twerkably raunchy answer to house) and crank (think "Miami bass meets Nola bounce"), but also drum `n' bass, Chicago footwork, post-punk, prog (they're, like, seriously into prog), grime, krautrock, emo, and basically any genre on the map. Once they graduated to DJs on the Tampa DIY scene _ which includes everything from punk rock house parties to the black "teen nights" that pop up in rec centers and ballrooms _ they figured out how to pull all these disparate sounds together into a cohesive style. More importantly, they figured out how to make it something people will actually move to. When they made the transition to rapping and making beats, they brought that pleasure-seeking approach to sonic experimentation with them. Oakland California’s James Wavey (aka Michael Bridgmon, aka Alleyes Manifest) is known for rhythmic poeticisms and presents them in a psychedelic hip hop style. His music production is influenced by jazz with funk undertones. Snowy Beach is a journal entry documenting a trip through America, a blotter paper of contradictions: snowy beaches, cold shoulders. Recorded at the height of the pandemic as American civil unrest was across the nation, Snowy Beach captures the moment and serves as a polaroid of the times. "These times are changing / made it to a Snowy Beach / relearned who I’m supposed to be" Wavey carefully selects from jazz, live instruments, California soul samples to Turkish down beat groves—a backdrop for revolutionary poetry to shine on, shine on, shine on. The tracks for Snowy Beach stand alone as they stand together, a hot body of work forged on an increasingly incoherent planet. Central to this effort, Wavey seems to build a strong foundation on contradictions and obscurities. Originally self-released on cassette in March of 2021, Dandy Boy Records is proud to present Snowy Beach for the first time on vinyl. Edition of 250 copies.
