Crane City Music is proud to release Bobby Ro$$ from accomplished Seattle rapper and visual artist Perry Porter. His first full-length, Bobby Ro$$ is a vibe-heavy hustle through the landscape of art, blackness, and self-love. On it, he inhabits the alter ego of Bobby Ro$$, the trap music avatar of the much-loved PBS painter, Porter uses snippets of interviews with cultural luminaries such as Kara Walker, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Maya Angelou as a narrative lattice to paint himself into the canon of black art.

Originally from Tacoma, Washington—by way of rural Spanaway—Porter grew up playing drums and rapping over his own beats. His first foray into hip-hop was as half of buzzy local duo Sleep Steady, who received much acclaim in the Pacific Northwest and placed two songs in major video game titles (EA Sports UFC 2 and Cyberpunk 2077). He has since released several solo mixtapes, including 2018’s critically-acclaimed Channel Surfing mixtape.

As a visual artist, Porter’s dreamlike watercolor portraits and lush murals have been shown in galleries across the country. His notable collectors include several NFL Seahawks players. He incorporates live painting into his performances and is currently planning a 30-city pop-up painting tour of record stores for Spring 2020.

Bobby Ro$$ is the seventh record in the Crane City Music collection, a library of the hottest recent hip-hop albums from the Pacific Northwest on wax. The record assembles a wide variety of Seattle- and Tacoma-area talent, including producers Chong The Nomad, Jamie Blake, and Khris P, alongside rappers Blake Anthony, Romaro Franceswa, and Jarv Dee. The Crane City “Black Excellence” edition of Bobby Ro$$ is limited to 250 copies on black vinyl and features a cover designed by visual artist Izzy Vibes and liner notes by music journalist Martin Douglas.

Perry Porter has opened for national touring artists such as Joey Badass, SuperDuperKyle, and The Flavr Blue, and performed to sold-out crowds at 2019’s Capitol Hill Block Party music festival.

Legendary Detroit emcee Phat Kat and Berlin bred DJ/Producer DJ Dister present their new album “The S.O.S. Project”.

Standing for "So Old School" Dister's soulful but dusty-break laden beats (which defined the J Dilla/Slum Village era) provides the perfect backdrop for Kat's fiery 90's honed flow. Speaking on how they linked up Dister said "we initially recorded a track called "Rappin Ass Rapper's" on my album Consistent Knockouts (2015). The vibe was so dope that we decided to do a whole project together."

The first evidence of this chemistry is in the single "Revolt For Change" a scathing social commentary as Kat says is "about police brutality excessive force and how our citizens are being treated like animals and the current situation our country and community is in." Other tracks salute The "D" (as his home city is known) and retrace his personal Hip-Hop history ("The Monument" feat DJ Dez) or relate tales from the crime side ("Shots", "Storm").

An emcee's emcee Phat Kat (aka Ronnie Euro) initially came up in the mid 90's as part of a duo with J Dilla (then known as Jay Dee) known as 1st Down. Though legal troubles halted the group's momentum, Kat and Dilla collaborated consistently over the following years. Kat's recorded output also includes work with Black Milk, Slum Village, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Obie Trice and Flying Lotus. He has also toured worldwide including frequent trips to Europe to perform.

With a resume that stretches back fifteen years, DJ Dister was a strong part of the Berlin, Germany true-school Hip-Hop scene. In 2005 as part of the Born 2 Roll crew, he helped to organize the Born 2 Roll night, a monthly event at the Cassiopeia Club. This popular event drew thousands of attendees for over a decade and also drew performances from such names as KRS-One and De La Soul. He released two albums as a producer including the debut ROLL WIT DIS (2013) which featured appearances from Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, KRS-One, Fashawn and others. 2015’s Consistent Knockouts featured Jeru The Damaja, eMC, Phat Kat and others. Dister now resides in Los Angeles, CA and is working on several EP's and albums currently.

The two connected by chance via twitter, after Cory saw Fooch in a 319 cypher video on youtube. They linked up offline and quickly became friends, sparking an immediate chemistry and need to make quality hip-hop music together; hence the name Strangers Of Necessity. If it's really a post-genre world, why does everything sound the same? The two halves of Tampa rap duo They Hate Change_Dre (he/him) and Vonne (they/them)_first came together in front of the apartment complex where they both lived as teens. Dre had just moved down from Rochester, NY; Vonne was trying to sell him bad weed. It was clear from the start that the two listen to music differently from most people_they're sonic omnivores, obsessive deep-divers, lovers of rare and radical sounds. Once they graduated to DJs on the Tampa DIY scene _ which includes everything from punk rock house parties to the black "teen nights" that pop up in rec centers and ballrooms _ they figured out how to pull all these disparate sounds together into a cohesive style. More importantly, they figured out how to make it something people will actually move to. When they made the transition to rapping and making beats, they brought that pleasure-seeking approach to sonic experimentation with them. "With this album, Vonne says, "it's really like, okay, you know how you talk about the internet breaking down borders? Here's what that actually sounds like. It's not just a hip-hop record with a couple more weird sounds. You want homegrown DIY? This is a record that was written, produced, and recorded in a 150-squarefoot bedroom from the least cool city you could think of." Stay Close To Music’, the forthcoming new studio album from Mykki Blanco, is unlike anything they have released before. Adventurous and expansive, it shatters any previously held assumptions about Mykki’s artistry, leaving them free to define their sound for themselves. The LP is being released on October 14, 2022 via Transgressive. Throughout their evolution, poet, artist, musician Mykki Blanco has continuously blurred genres - pulling rave, trap, grunge and punk influences into a swirling pool of experimental hip hop that celebrated queer and trans experiences. Yet, Mykki admits that “at that point in my career, I didn't know what my own music sounded like without any kind of direct, outside reference. That's not a bad thing; that's how the majority of music is made.” Ultimately Mykki concluded they wanted to create their own sonic universe from scratch. To facilitate this, they collaborated with producer and multi-instrumentalist FaltyDL, who allowed them to envision new soundscapes built from lush, live instrumentation. “It just transported me,” they admit. “It enabled me to dream in a way that I had never dreamed with my own songwriting. All of a sudden, I felt like I had this template where I could make that sound my own.”

The songs spun together through numerous jam sessions, with writing taking place in Lisbon, Paris, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. By 2019, Mykki realized that they were working on two different records concurrently. The first became 2021’s lauded mini-album Broken Hearts & Beauty Sleep and now Mykki readies the second collection of the sessions via Stay Close To Music. “I wanted to see what it would be like to go back and be a musician from another time where you had to start every ingredient raw from scratch. That process, ideology and that way of making has not only changed me as a musician, it has creatively changed me as a person.” Stay Close To Music features from Michael Stripe, Saul Williams, Anohni, Dianna Gordon, Devendra Banhart, Jónsi and more.

Two select songs from acclaimed producer Theory Hazit's remix EP of Libretto & Vitamin D's collaborative album, Rusty Bladez, are now represented on vinyl for the first time with this limited edition 45. The two standout cuts also feature incredible guest verses from Hip-Hop heavyweights Planet Asia, and Roc Marciano. Given Vitamin D's outstanding production on the original LP, constructing remixes was a tall order for any producer. But, Theory Hazit's unique swing and precise chops proved the perfect pairing with Libretto, Planet Asia, and Roc Marciano's raps & subject matter. Theory imbued each track with his signature flavor and was able to tap into the core elements of the songs to give them new sonic twists, all while maintaining their conceptual integrity and emotional weight. Fresh Air is the result of cooperation between rapper Belmondawg, producer Expo 2000 and the legendary jazzman Michał Urbaniak.

The single was produced by Expo 2000 using a 12-bit sampler based on samples from the song "A Day In The Park" from 1978, and solos on soprano saxophone recorded especially for this purpose by Michal Urbaniak. The single is maintained in a positive style of jazzy hip-hop.

The remix was prepared by DJ Eprom - the legend of the turntablism scene, multiple champion of international DJ competitions.

The cover and the animated music video for the single was prepared by Paweł Mildner - a valued illustrator, graphic designer, author of posters, picture books and covers.

Open Mike Eagle returned to Chicago on January 25, 2019 to participate in a Closed Session documentary and recording session with Closed Sessions' in-house producer, BoatHouse. It was a homecoming of sorts for Eagle. He grew up and cut his teeth in Chicago's underground Hip Hop scene, yet moved away and achieved musical success in Los Angeles. His return visit featured a sold-out show at the Empty Bottle and this recording session, that also felt like home. "It just reminded me of the rapping I came up doing in Chicago," he said in the accompanying documentary. "Whiskey and Push-Ups" was originally released in 2020 on Closed Sessions Vol. 3, and appears now for the 1st time on limited edition 7".
