"baseline Cavi" is a collaboration album between Inland Empire/Los Angeles rapper Trizz and producer Mike Summers (aka Seven) from Kansas City. The album has that classic Westcoast Hip-Hop sound and the intro track gives that feeling right away. Guest features on the album are from Bino Rideaux, XV, T.F, Icecoldbishop, John Givez and Bale. Though fans may not know it, this collaboration between Inland Empire California emcee Trizz and Kansas City production ace Mike Summers has been brewing for close to a decade. Back in 2013 Summers (then known as Seven) was already a prolific producer signed to Tech N9ne's Strange Music label and Trizz was part of horrorcore legend Brotha Lynch Hung's Madesicc Muzic roster. The two connected while working on Lynch Hung's "Mannibalector" album and a spark for future work was laid. Linking up in spring of last year, the two creatively fed off each-other with the resulting album evoking classic West Coast melodicism and car-rattling thump. As Trizz states "this sh*t is so f*ckin authentic. It got bounce, it’s swangin' and bangin! When you hear this album, you can feel it and damn near smell the palm trees and bomb ass weed." As Summers relayed "It's probably different for a lot of my fans to hear a more classic West Coast style of production from me, but that style of production has always been embedded in my sound. I grew up on 90's West Coast Hip-Hops studying producers like DJ Quik and Dr. Dre. The only reason I started using lots of live musicians on my tracks was because I watched Quik do it. Baseline Cavi really let me dig into that classic L.A. sound that I've always wanted to build with." Lyrically Trizz's immediately distinctive flow and storytelling abilities are at a new plateau with the emcee admitting "The lyrics on this album are probably more refined and defined because I just turned 30 and I have no more time to waste."

Mississauga, Ontario emcee, Es joined forces with Scarborough, Ontario beatsmith J. Pal on his 6th solo release entitled “You Want A Piece Of Me?”. The two met through mutual friends back in ‘97 as McMaster University students who also had a mutual love for hiphop. J. Pal was host of an underground hiphop radio show at the time. Es, an avid fan and listener got put on to many a gem played on his show, “In Tha Kut” on Cfmu 93.3 in Hamilton.

Fast forward to 2012, the two would collaborate on two songs on Es’ debut album entitled “Feud For Thought”. After a 9 year hiatus, the two would decide to collaborate again. This time, on a full length release which speaks to the different aspects that define Es, the family man, the hiphop enthusiast and emcee.

About “You Want A Piece of Me?”: Chronicling who he is, where he came from, what inspires him, and what helps him to stand out, Es was supplied with the perfect backdrops to let you into the mind and soul of Es. This project was labeled “You Want A Piece Of Me?” to bring clarity, not a piece of [me] like physically challenge [me]. You want a piece of me? At 10 joints and around 35min run time, the goal with this project is to share pieces of Es' world that you may or may not have heard before. Kid Abstrakt and Polish beat magician Emapea have teamed up for an intriguing new album called Jazzy Vibes, a throwback to ‘90s Golden Era hip-hop updated with a 2020 spin.

Kid Abstrakt, a Los Angeles native born to a Nicaraguan father and Brazilian mother, formed his first group Revolutionary Rhythm in high school, which ultimately led him to touring with some of his hip-hop heroes, including members of the Pharcyde.

“I fell in love with hip-hop when I first heard A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde,” Abstrakt says. “It was crazy to hear Q-Tip, Pete Rock and J Dilla sample jazz records and have MCs dropping conscious rhymes I could relate to.

“While mainstream hip-hop found different styles throughout the years, we just wanted to make music that was similar to the records we bought back in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. We wanted to tell our story over jazz and soul samples.”

As the title suggests, Jazzy Vibes retains the tried-and-true formula of mellow, jazz- infused production and boom bap style rhymes, but Abstrakt’s lyrics are bursting at the seams with deep, introspective musings on his private life delivered in a continuous barrage of flawlessly executed bars.

“The lyrics go beyond just rhyming words and trying to sound hard on a beat,” he explains. “The album dives into days where I struggle to stay positive and find a balance between work and what I love, and almost quitting on my passion because I needed to focus on supporting my family.

“Tomorrow is not promised and my music has helped others through their struggles. It’s deeper than rap and this journey has truly humbled me.”

The 10-track project boasts contributions from DJ Million Faces, Predominance, Innate and Young Dreamer and is expected to arrive on July 24.

If it's really a post-genre world, why does everything sound the same? The two halves of Tampa rap duo They Hate Change_Dre (he/him) and Vonne (they/them)_first came together in front of the apartment complex where they both lived as teens. Dre had just moved down from Rochester, NY; Vonne was trying to sell him bad weed. It was clear from the start that the two listen to music differently from most people_they're sonic omnivores, obsessive deep-divers, lovers of rare and radical sounds. Starting as kids trawling the internet for tracks, they've been collecting music from around the world and across the decades, amassing a shared sonic knowledge so deep that "encyclopedic" barely begins to cover it _ not just the East Coast hip-hop that Dre grew up on, or the hyperlocal bass-music variants like jook (the Gulf Coast's twerkably raunchy answer to house) and crank (think "Miami bass meets Nola bounce"), but also drum `n' bass, Chicago footwork, post-punk, prog (they're, like, seriously into prog), grime, krautrock, emo, and basically any genre on the map. Once they graduated to DJs on the Tampa DIY scene _ which includes everything from punk rock house parties to the black "teen nights" that pop up in rec centers and ballrooms _ they figured out how to pull all these disparate sounds together into a cohesive style. More importantly, they figured out how to make it something people will actually move to. When they made the transition to rapping and making beats, they brought that pleasure-seeking approach to sonic experimentation with them. "With this album, Vonne says, "it's really like, okay, you know how you talk about the internet breaking down borders? Here's what that actually sounds like. It's not just a hip-hop record with a couple more weird sounds. You want homegrown DIY? This is a record that was written, produced, and recorded in a 150-squarefoot bedroom from the least cool city you could think of." Finally, New is what a truly post-genre musical landscape is supposed to be: building deep connections that transcend outdated distinctions between them, spilling over with the joy of exploration and possibility, and daring other artists to think broader, go deeper, take bigger risks. New Flava Volume 1 is an audacious project birthed in Austin Aggrey-Odoom's brain in the Spring of 1995. Austin, being a devoted Christian as well as a massive music fan, was a regular at different churches across the London Area during the mid-90's. He then connected with many young aspiring Gospel/Soul/R&B singers and had the idea to produce a Gospel album that could appeal to a younger crowd, mixing US R&B influences, to create a new kind of Christian R&B that could have radio potential, while showcasing U.K.'s underground Soul talents from the Gospel community. His love of God and passion for music would finally merge into this hybrid compilation project called New Flava Volume 1. With the help of producer Paul Cumberbatch, they recorded a selection of the finest voices that Austin could find amongst the Gospel circuit. Inspired by popular US R&B/Hip-Hop artists of that time, they aimed to recreate a heavy and well-polished sound that would resonate with the fans of Mary J. Blige, Joe and SWV amongst others. This LP finally brings a Clipping fan-favorite, 2016's Wriggle, onto vinyl in an improved, expanded version that features new art, previously unreleased remixes, and a track that's exclusive to the vinyl format. The original, digital-only Wriggle EP was six tracks that weren't finished in time to make it onto the group's 2014 Sub Pop debut, Clppng. For "Shooter," Clipping recorded themselves firing fifteen different guns, the sounds of which exclusively constituted the beat's drums, augmented only by a synthesized tone-row. The verses referenced the well-worn technique of "hashtag rap," but instead of using it to boast about the rapper's personal wealth and masculine prowess, Clipping put forth imagistic narratives of three violent encounters. True to much of the group's music, "Shooter" was an attempt to reframe a familiar style and test the limits of its formal capabilities. "Hot Fuck No Love" contains what might be the most explicit verse to date from Clipping's favorite New Jersey rapper Cakes Da Killa. The EP's title track, "Wriggle," was built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song "Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel" by Whitehouse, transforming William Bennett's torturous imperative into a instructional dance-floor banger. "Wriggle" and "Shooter" have become classic Clipping tracks and staples of their live show. With this vinyl edition, Clipping fans old and new - and there are many new fans thanks to their breakout 2020 album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned, and Daveed Diggs' thriving acting career - get the vinyl version of Wriggle they've been clamouring for.

Paris based Roforofo Jazz is a 7-piece liveband fronted by Chicago born MC Days (aka RacecaR), with a certain taste for adventurous blends, mixing hip hop, afrobeat and jazz into their very own style. The 5 titles include the single “Fire Eater”, a raw afro hip hop tune mixing rhythms in the tradition of polyrhythm afrofunk tunes, while also alternating in between jazzy mood and burning hip hop anthem. “Dump It” is a dark, mid tempo beat, borrowing the groove signature of ethiopian soul, and coated with hip hop sharp drops, while horns bring the jazzyness through their themes. “Helelyos” is a cover/extrapolation of Iranian singer Zia’s hit, to which Days vocals bring an heavy old school hip hop vibe. “2Kick1” is a relentless afrobeat oriented tune, though with a languorous spacy chorus that breaks with the traditional afrobeat routine. And “What We Think We Saw” ends the EP with an opening to more psychedelic visions, in which a Gil Scott-Heron spoken word style meets jazzy space echoes, flutes under massive reverbs in a global vibe that could remind old analog recordings of Mandrill, Cymande or LKJ.

Growing apart from a place, from people, from who you once were, because I'm from a currently gentrifying city that theme is on the surface of the album but the overall narrative is for any person that feels unfamiliar in a space that was familiar to them. This album is me finding my new comfort zone because I have to.

This "City For Sale" album is the first time I've produced an entire album on my own including making every beat. Even Donwill's "One Word No Spaces" LP (which I'm credited as the producer) was co produced and co arranged by Donwill, (thats something we always wanted to do). City For Sale is another personal goal for me. I've been afraid to do an entire album alone until now....if this shit is wack its all my fault. With that said this is my calling card album. This is the one I will hopefully be known for when its all said and done.

This newly formed trio composed of Philly Hip Hop Legend ”Rahsheed aka Maylay Sparks”, newcomer “Chukk Rukkuz” and rapper/producer “K-Sluggah” from the squad known as Muddy Fatique, have joined forces to form the “Hood Thrill Hunters”. This 10 track urban reprise was entirely produced by Karl “K-Sluggah” Frigyes and is a must have!

K-Sluggah, an MC and beatmaker whose origins lie in the city of Malmö in Sweden, is part of the Muddy Fatique collective that’s revered in Sweden for sharp rhymes over rugged beats. In 2007 K-Sluggah started taking his beat-making craft more serious. His preferred weapons of choice are the classic beat machines ASR-10 and MPC 2500 and of course some dusty old records to go along. The result is a production style which is sample based, soulful, rugged and raw. He has released numerous projects with his ”Muddy Fatique” partners both behind the mic and behind the boards. On this particular project K-Sluggah exibits his talents by composing some of the illest breaks, tripped out bass lines and synth tones with the help of Jack Winge, studio aficianado and bass player, who also contributed to the 2013 release ”Spit On It”.

Last year he released the LP “Twin Cannons“ with NY rapper John Jiggs which was very well received in the underground circuit. He also has notable past work with Hus kingpin, Maylay Sparks, Granddaddy I.U, Mykill Miers, Tha God Fahim, Mach Hommy, Rozewood, Monsta Mook and Shady Records signees Westside Gunn & Conway.

Maylay Sparks delivers as usual, with his trademark dynamic, swift, and descriptive delivery over broken melodies, accompanied by riffs ranging from Balkan jazz clips to 70’s Vietnamese soul. His counterpart Chukk Rukkuz, whose fierce and aggressive flow with a hint of the golden era style cadence, is the perfect match for every selection. Features include John Jiggs, Rucker P.A.W.K, and Rocc Spotz (now known as Rocc Boogie) who is yet another heavy hitter from the Muddy Fatique team. The music is accompanied by the precise turntable assistance from Italy’s finest and most respected DJ, Bassi Maestro.

The artwork is a very personal touch, it's the Avenue Maylay Sparks grew up on as a kid during the 70's in Philly and it’s actually a cartoon of an actual picture.

A message reads: huge things are still sham. So easily understood, and so overwhelmingly so. If this is life at face value, the transmissions within S.AL’s debut are the counter agents. There is nurturing within Little Man, You’ve Had A Busy Day; awakened by nutriments and medicines.

Largely self-produced, Little Man, You’ve Had a Busy Day finds s.al kneading out the knotty burdens of a sun cycle. As a producer, s.al supplies vignettes of tape loop meditations, each an ornate anteroom or alcove in the happy home of the album. As a vocalist he is softly riding the forms, a provisionist of encouraging poems. From the outset of “Winner + Raps” he’s your friendly voyager with undeterrable empathy, bouncing effortlessly over a funky session. The refrain is simple: “easily distressed / excellent at managing distress.” Deeper into Little Man, s.al turns the guitar loops on “Phones” into a serene backdrop to ruminate on the absence of distraction. Much can be gleaned from Little Man - wonder, purpose, compassion, dexterity - but when s.al sings “there never was much else but the work / busying myself since birth,” it leaves a lasting impression that the album is consumed by simple pleasures and purposes. And so, a mistakenly broken loop on “King Size” is work flow, the steady rhythm of carpentry. The triumvirate of the “Idea 5” series seems littered at first, an exercise in revisiting a template anew, but intention is clear as s.al croons “I never make it through” as he reflects on a folkloric place called “the agate door.”

In the darker corners and closets like “Jeremiah (The Weeping Prophet)” and “Home Alone” the loops of anxiety are subdued by s.al’s mantra of “relax, make me slow.” Again, consider purpose. There are depths that must not be overlooked. S.al cannot divert attention. Little Man, You’ve Had A Busy Day has to go to nervous places, places of botheration, in order to bask in the glimmer of closer “$150 of your mmoney.”

Yes, it was a busy day. But upon reflection, it was without sham.

Beats were supplied in full by Jonwayne, creating the environments that mesh to Danny Watts’ introspective lyricism and soulful cadences on the mic. The Houston based rapper has created a body of work that details his life experiences with an honest and uncompromising lens, jumping out of the Authors Recording Company gates as the first release after the critically acclaimed Rap Album Two.

Danny Watts and Jonwayne recently captured Black Boy Meets World in the span of only a week, recording the 11-track LP at the Los Angeles recording facility Cosmic Zoo. Danny also wrote all of the lyrics to the album in this same window, finishing up to three songs per day as the Cosmic Zoo sessions occurred in an intense yet efficient form. Mixing and mastering was completed by Low End Theory’s Daddy Kev and artwork was supplied by Authors’ creative director Shane Sakanoi. With executive oversight and production on every track supplied by Jonwayne, guest contributions and features include Ray Wright of Warm Brew, DIBIA$E, Leaving Records’ Kiefer, Dr. Octagon collaborator Juan Alderete de la Pena, Zeroh, and many others. The overall effect presents the ethos of hip-hop’s many forms, pulled into the weight of classic sounding kicks, snares, hi-hats, basslines, keys, synths, and horns.

Yogisoul returns with his first album in 8 years, after breaking through creative blocks and discovering a newfound love for his producing craft rooted in his childhood.

A timeless throwback offering, an instant classic that will leave you wondering if you somehow missed this record reminiscent of 90’s West Coast Rap. It’s that blunt rolling record, with the deep G-Funk grooves, skits, and raps by Woof. A record inspired by the albums Yogisoul grew up listening to. A combination of his imagination of the West Coast California landscape portrayed by 90’s records on Death Row Records, and the real-life experiences of California-based rapper, Woof.

But before Yogi could get started on the project, he had some creative barriers to work through, hurdles that had him wondering if he’d continue making music at all.

“A few years back I became a father, worked as a teacher, and didn't really feel inspired by the music I was making. I was kinda fed up with the lane I was in musically and had doubts about continuing. Which was very strange since I´ve been into music so heavily since I was a kid. Time for music was a bit limited and I just hit a creative stop for a while.”

Sometimes an existential crisis is all you need to unlock the tools to look deep within and take stock of what inspired your love for making music in the first place. For producer Yogisoul, it was thinking about the golden era of hip hop that initially sparked his interest in becoming a producer, and revisiting the albums that remain deep within his canon that inspired the beginnings of his new LP, Let the Dopeness Begin! Yogisoul began an inward journey that found him trying to produce from the perspective of himself as a kid.

“I started listening back to the records I really loved as a young teen. When I listened, I loved and felt very connected to the music, but had no idea of how it was made or what went into the record-making process. I found it very refreshing trying to make music from that perspective of the young mind just feeling the music, not understanding it or breaking it down. I really found my creative output again that way. When I grew up, the rappers and producers I listened to were like superheroes, larger than life.”

As Yogi dove deeper, he was able to move past the self-doubt that had him overanalyzing what he was creating and started producing beats that he felt could set the stage for storytelling. He wanted to make music that made you feel like you were watching a movie or listening to a soundtrack, cruising the streets in a lowrider in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Let The Dopeness Begin, taps into that storytelling not only with Woof’s raps but by offering multiple layers of production and sequencing that leaves room for skits that invite you into the sonic world of the album. When Yogi was trying to find a vocalist to collaborate on the album with, he had a vision for what the right voice would be for the project.

“In the process of finding my sound, I wanted to work with vocalists or artists that tell a story. Not necessarily by storytelling or in the lyrics, but just by hearing their voice you instantly know where they are from, what they represent, and what they are about. Like an outlaw on the prairie with an out-of-tune guitar is more interesting than a studio musician. Woof is that guy! Not on the prairie but in a lowrider under the streetlights sipping on gin & juice. My ability is not in living that life, but in the musical experience of knowing what can facilitate him in the best way sonically. Setting the scene for him with the beats, the talkbox, the scratches, and the skits on the record.” - Yogisoul

Yogi had become aware of Woof’s raps back in 2012, he always felt as if Woof was overlooked or going unnoticed. He made attempts to track him down, but it wasn't until more recently that Woof popped up on a social media page, which allowed Yogi to reach out in regards to the possible collaboration. The two made the record completely remotely, never even having a single conversation on the phone, it was all orchestrated via text. Yogi would send beats and Woof would send raps back, always making the recorded raps work for the beat, no matter the approach. Forcing Yogi to be creative with his production in ways he hadn’t before, testing his abilities to create a polished sonic world to lose yourself in.

“I worked a lot to make his vocals sound as good as they do, and have used a lot of analogue gear and processing to get them sounding the way they do now. The stems he had sent me have felt like a puzzle, and I pieced it together to a record in the end. I think that is what makes the record unique.” - Yogisoul

The first track they worked on was “94 Heavy”, which would become the first single on the album and is first the song on the record, past the album's introduction track. It wastes no time setting a vibe and transporting you back to 1994, the record is not just a record, it’s a time machine. A true representation of the whole record in one track, and a quintessential track within this collaboration of Yogisoul and Woof. It’s an undeniable head nodder, with smooth horns, deep synth bass that will leave no question about the record's low-end power, and a dope drum swing.

Other notable tracks on the record are “Comin Thru”, which is a braggadocious, G-Funk, banger! It contains all the ingredients of classic West Coast Rap albums. A smooth beat for Woof to weave in and out of, talkbox, scratches in the hook, and samples of legendary Los Angeles voices. A track that will make you feel like you should have a forty and a doobie nearby.

The title track, “Let the Dopeness Begin”, the self-titled track on the album is an homage to the West Coast Classics radio station on GTA: San Andreas. A cruise with the windows jam that slaps! “I want people to put this record on when the summer is incoming, when they pull their windows down, when they roll by the old court where they used to play basketball.”
For a record that comes in at just under 30 minutes, it is absolutely packed with material, and opportunities to explore the world created with the production, raps, and skits.
