It's always nice to put out something from your hometown. It's even better when that something is this good. Cherry Cheeks is the work of fellow Orlando resident (recently relocated to Portland) Kyle Harms. Started in early 2020, Cherry Cheeks was born out of countless hours stuck in front of a computer screen with a raging pandemic outside. Kyle put his boredom, boiling over anger, and frustration to work and started a new project. He put out a few bandcamp EPS and limited run tapes that a mutual friend back home turned me onto. He also informed me that there was even better stuff that hadn't yet been released. I hit Kyle up, he sent me a few tracks, and boy was my friend right. EGG Punk, Devo-core, Quarantine Punk.. whatever the kids are calling it these days this is 12 tracks of bass driven, pop stained, punk agitation. I'm very proud of this record and am ecstatic to say it is indeed 100% Total Punk!!!!

The long playing record splayed out in front of you is the third strike of the Retail Simps’ iron claw. In baseball a strike out is a loathsome outcome, in bowling it’s gold. I ask you, dear listener to sift through these delicate poles of meaning and experience these 16 toons free from the qualitative chains that burden your ear in favour of the openness and exploratory liberation of a child. This one landed the Simps in W.B.A. (world builders anonymous) after total and utter detachment from reality ensued. After copious amounts of blind encouragement from their label boss and his peers (all victims of half-Zheimers) and trace amounts of measurable success (money? no sir), the groups’ egos were operating at a loss, or at least a state of confusion. Faced with the pitfalls of modern drudgery and the music industry’s impending and unrelenting judgement, their perseverance was yet again tested. Through the magical transportive inspiration of rock n roll, our unequivocally handsome protagonists found salvation thrice. R n B stimulation, ponk agitation and slop rock demonstration saved them from themselves, from the downcast stares of detractors, from the cruelness of the everyday. Art as therapy for the clinically insane. A functional state of illness is the bottom line of this cultural achievement. Herein, the band exercises the democratic tools they learnt in their formative years as craftsmen and apply them broadly to a new swath of material. The crucial pin prick guitar, exasperated (ing) vocal maelstrom and beatific pounding of the previous 2 slabs carry over, but new strategies in expounding are implicated for varied and freewheeling results. The spotlight has been flayed, with every simp performing dutifully on the microphone, every simp sitting behind the drumthrone, every simp penning refrains, every simp trading high end for low and visa versa. They have triggered an uncanny singularity. If you have followed the band up to this point, or even happened upon them begrudgingly, with the raw and open ear these savants require, this will truly be Your version of the band. With their service weapons cocked, Total Punk brings you, Thine Retail SIMPS!" —someone who cares

Only 10 measly months has passed sinceAlien Nosejob released their Garage Rock record “The Derivative Sounds of…Or… A Dog Always Returns to its Vomit” (Goner / Anti Fade). Since its release, there’s been two international tours, two interstate tours and a bunch of chillaxing on the beach. ANJ is now back in the office and the next record is fast approaching.

“Turns the Colour of Bad Shit” will be Jake Robertson’s seventh solo record under the extremely vast and evolving umbrella that is Alien Nosejob. On September 20 Anti Fade Records (au), Total Punk (us) & DrunkenSailor (uk) join forces to split the shit pie into three different shades ofBad Shit and feed the 5000 hungry fans across the globe.

Taking musical inspiration from the late 70’s punk sounds of J.T. IV, Elton Motello, X-Ray Spex, ‘Bad Shit' came to life in April 2023 when Jake occupied friends’ Mikey and Raven’s home studio for a weekend and took to the controls on his own.

The album opens with the gut-wrenching terror that is 'Bird Strike’. A song made up of a hypnotic riff, haunting saxophone line (courtesy of Alannah Sawyer) and grotesque lyrical imagery that parallels Revee Bendixen's mutilated album artwork. 'Trapped in Time' lightens the mood with an upbeat tempo and words that poke fun at those stuck living in the past, while 'Annoying Riffs' points the finger at almost all of society (including himself). Jake reminds us that he can most certainly play a guitar solo (In case anyone forgot the Stained Glass record) on 'The Ostrich’ before the blistering 24 minutes wraps up with ‘Medical Treatment’; a 3 minute, minor chord Birdman worship. This record has a little something for everybody.

Curleys are not a hardcore band and they’ve asked that you stop sending them fan mail telling them which obscure early '80s hardcore band they remind you of. They are not impressed by your knowledge, have no idea who or what you are talking about, and find both you and your opinion just about as boring as most live bands they see. Curleys are Curley and play Curley songs about Curley things and this is their debut LP. 11 songs clocking in at just over 14 minutes about their dogs, liking what the like, chugging roaches and more. Razor sharp, lightning fast, and 100% Total Punk!!!

In a time where it’s become increasingly difficult to find the motivation to head out my front door, CUT Piece has become one of the few exceptions, and in their brief year of existence my favorite local band. Featuring a lineup of Portland scene stalwarts from RED Dons, Piss Test, ERA Bleak, Dials, Petite... every time they hit the stage with power, ferocity, and a purpose, commanding the audience and never out staying their welcome. On their debut LP Your Own Good they stick to that formula. Combining elements of post-punk, hardcore, and the early 80s UK anarcho scene, Cut Piece turn in a 23 minute album of driving anthems that demand your attention and drill their way into your brain. Songs about the fucked-up state of our world, the overwhelming apathy of the population at large, self-empowerment, and the creeps who lurk the neighborhood. With one of the hardest badgers in the game, a constant barrage of hook exchanges between the wiry guitars and rumbling bass, and a vocalist shouting arithmetic calls to protests, Your Own Good makes for a captivating debut, and if album closer Gugi is any indication of what’s to come sign me up now. Dark, powerful, and 100% Total Punk!

"We're winding things down over here at the Total Punk stamp factory. Only two more singles to go and then its big slabs from there on out. I'm beyond happy that THE ARCHAEAS are in this final class. Hailing from Louisville, KY The Archaeas have quitely been amassing their legion of followers with an absolutely jaw dropping live show. I've put out a lot of singles in these last eight years, and this is one that will sit at the front of the pack. Recorded by fellow Total Punk GINO BAMBINO, these two songs come just about as close as you can to capturing them live. Raw, loud, and filled with hooks. The Archaeas write the kind of songs you only have to hear once before you know them. This is their first vinyl release but I have no doubt we'll be hearing from them for a long time. The other two songs they recorded with these two are just as good and if I weren't getting out of the singles game I'd be begging to put them out as well. Hopefully I can convince them to make the transition over the big records with me. Lean, mean, and 100% TOTAL PUNK."

Prepare to enter the world of glam and glitz as you take a walk down the redd karpet with The Celebrities. An international collaboration between Joe Sussman (Nancy, Dangus Tarkus,Muff Divers) and Kel Mason (Gee Tee) with a cameo by Ishka Edmeades (Tee Vee Repairman, Satanic Togas, Set Top Box...) on "Crackin Under Pressure". I hope this is the last time I ever have to say 'covid project' in my life, but this one's a winner. The snot of early Red Cross, hooks like The Dickies, and pure pop sensibility of 60's bubble gum. A not stop hit factory from top to bottom. Clocking in at 12 minutes this is a multiple flipper for sure. Loud, proud, and standing out in the crowd. 100% Total Punk!!!

Featuring members of Manateees, Oblivians, Mangina, Rat Traps...TSOT has turned not caring into an art form and even unknowingly submitted a track from their second LP for inclusion on this one. Sour tunes for sour times by sour dudes. Lurching low end, two guitars and a banjitar that make a cacaphanous symphony which can only be described as amp torture. Southern brutality at its finest. Dad rock for deadbeats! This was the record Total Punk was made to put out and it only took us 8 years to get here. Loud, broken, out of tune, and 100% Total Punk!!!! Limited TO 400 Copies.

New York's Brandy (Ex-PAMPERS, Running) are back with their sophomore LP and first on Total Punk. The Gift of Repetition is an eight track study in just that. Loud plodding and rhythmic. It will have you bobbing your head till it breaks off your neck. They all share vocal duties often chanting over each other and the lyrics are singular in vision. Bleak with a grin. Synth is added on a few tracks with mind-melting results. When the only other bands that come to mind are A-Frames, Lamps and Mayyors you are obviously doing something right. Pulsing, throbbing, and 100% Total Punk!!! Limited to 350 copies.

What if the Velvet Underground had written ‘Wooly Bully’ and Sam The Sham ‘Sister Ray?' If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or if Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail SIMP's mind. Gang activity started when moldy JOE (Celluloid Lunch, Itchy SELF...) enlisted fellow rhythm bro, TOM THA Moleanderthal (feeling Figures, Hélène Barbier band...) to make a perfect record in the Ides of corona March. A million Doll hairs and several rock bottoms later, the idea was to make something that would easily fall apart, this was executed with Montreal's best and brightest in the wings, lending a foot (all in the name of bogtime[sic] exposure). Bathroom-stall-wart and Barstool-smart Chrispy Burns (terminal Sunglasses, American Devices…) was brought in to add his patented 'racket roll' guit-o-rama. James "gogo" Goddard (skintone, Egyptian Cotton ARKESTRA...) skronked his reliable sax machine and the ticket was printed. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones were born, well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. Now to show for it, Reverberant Scratch is a 9 track ruckus of tinny guitar sketching, horn-honking deliberations, keyboardarific doodles, and whatever else one can summon in a basement to bang on. It's a ramshackle party stabber. Loose, loud, and 100% Total Punk!!!

After countless hours of data driven market research it was determined that the wild success of the first Retail Simps album, Reverberant Scratch was 82.6% due to the cheeky and iconic album cover, as such the group was faced with a dilemma. Using focus groups funded by the Center for Odd Human Behaviour (cohb), the group surmised that the man pictured on said cover, none other than Montreal born chanteur JOE Chamandi, reminded the typical unsophisticated commoner of their ne’er do well uncle, and it is this sense of uncanny familiarity that drove people to purchase the record. Upon first needle drop it was revealed to house an abhorrent and obfuscatingly decrepit take on roots rock. Armed with this keen analytical knowledge, the band and their creative team harnessed the boundless marketability of the Trashmen, Dancing Cigarettes and 2 Live Crew to adorn their new disc with an equally palatable and deceptive frontal armour, provoking the straight laced garage rocker of yore to pay the price of entry. Once the branding and visual identity of this little package invited potential listeners in, they were met with incorrigible confusion. You see, after being pigeonholed by the punk paparazzi as a lowly party band, the Simps were tasked with driving home their knack for fervent versatility. This new record captures a group, in the clutches of maturity, boasting their emotional depth, triumphant chops and humble servitude to the trade of rock n roll clowning. Recalling the double speak of VU’s murder mystery, the soul bent lament of Fred Cole and the bastardized funk of Minutemen, the Simps have thusly widened their sonic palate and created yet another masterpiece of the modern age. This is the southern soul of Memphian tradesmen flipped on it’s snowy head, conjuring an impure regionalism that was largely thought to be dead and gone. An alternate kind of Northern Soul with a frosty Arctic sheen. More spazzed out guitar, more howling lunacy, more heat of the moment, turnt poetry and outside the box-isms. “The Simpies have done it again!” Proclaim the industrial-indie-music-complex! Bolstered by the angelic croon of Theee Simpettes and the honking heart-wrench of Theee Horny Boys, Theee Retail Simpletones bring you this 97.5 % Total Punk din!

I never thought I would see the day when Total Punk would release a 2xLP, but you'll do crazy things for love. Heavy Metal's 2019 magnus opus up until this point has only been released as a cassette but that is all about to change. 60+ minutes of Heavy Metal spread over four sides and housed in a gatefold jacket. This is by far Total Punk's most lavish project but as worshippers at the alter of all things Heavy Metal we are more than happy to fork over the dough.

"To call Remain Intact the work of an auteur might not be the proper usage of the term, but I can think of nothing else to call a piece of art expressing a singular vision with such perfection. GG King is a band first and foremost, but this LP is Greg King’s mind cracked open like a melon for all of us to peer into, from the music, to the lyrics, to the carefully constructed artwork. He’s assembled a crack unit of ATL’s finest players to help him articulate this vision, and under the peerless guidance of Ryan (dinosaur) Bell they have created a record that will appeal to any rocker with a soul, heart and/or mind. Heshers, punkers, hardcores, powerpoppers, garage turkeys, everyone is welcome and should find something to love here. 13 tracks clocking in at around some of the most rewarding 40 minutes of music you’re going to listen to this year, with a companion cassette filled with bonus material that most bands would be releasing as their masterpiece LP.

German punk provocateurs Heavy Metal are back with a brand new LP and first for Total Punk. Over the last four years Heavy Metal has put out four absolutely essential albums and we are proud as pudding to have them back on the Total Punk train. Heavy Metal isn't a heavy metal band, Live at the Gas Station isn't a live album (they refuse to even play live), and opener “Motorhead” has nothing to do with Lemmy or his mole. Such is the audacious and absurd world of Heavy Metal. Leading off with the reverb blanketed Jamc vibing “Motorhead.” For a band that embraces putting their filthy lint covered stamp on any and all musical genres the soft dreamy touches of the album opener leaves us asking "Has Heavy Metal cut it's hair?" Before you have time to answer, the boys fill the tank, drop the clutch, and kick into the Hubblin Bubblin “Motorbike” and rarely let up for the remainder of the LP. Occasionally wandering into the weird and warbled on tracks like “No Air,” “I Am Something,” and the hypnotic lurch of “Centipede Venom.” However V:Live at the Gas Station Fighting the Devil spends most of its time daring us to herk, jerk, spazz out, and let loose. Party music for party mutants.

Total Punk is keeping things in Atlanta for a little longer. Following up GG KING's- Remain Intact with the new album from Predator—Spiral Unfolds. The two bands share members including Ryan Bell who masterfully recorded both albums. Atlanta has one of the best punk scenes going and Predator are its longest running practitioners. Despite the seven years since Predator's last full length Complete Earth and vocalist Brannon Greene splitting time between Predator and his other projects Hospice and NAG (both of which just dropped new albums) Spiral Unfolds shows the band at its strongest. The lead work is minimal but razor sharp and extremely effective. Brannon talk/sings the vocals but the hooks are so large that the understated approach lends them more assurance. Predator are kings of efficiency. Stating as much with what is there as what isn't.

"Dead-eyed punks The Carp cast gnarly hooks with their debut LP Knock Your Block Off. This Cleveland based 3-piece, consisting of members of Cruelster, Knowso, and a laundry list of other fast and fried bands, strip away the extraneous minutia- distilling the music into a raw, visceral, no-frills mutant street punk offering. This record says something about the duality of man- harnessing blunt, goonish, and freaky 77 punk aesthetics and combining them with the densely cerebral, albeit, thuggish and strange lyrical prose. While that may sound psychotic, Knock your Block Off offers wholly unique and infectious arrangements begging the listeners to mindlessly stomp along, ricocheting into each other like particles in the pit of a hydrogen bomb. The Carp sound like RFK Jr’s brainworm smoking crack with Hunter Biden diving 2000 miles per hour into the uncertain, and frightening, yet breathtaking, near future."—Sims Hardin Skewed, brutish, and 100% Total Punk!

Meet the new kings of Saturday Night! Circulators have proudly taken on the mantle of San Francisco's only Rock N Roll band, sharing the stage with pretty much any group of consequence that comes through the Bay. Following up a killer that immediately had us firing off a gushing email, THE Circs are back with their debut LP and I'm happy to announce its all killer no filler! A full on party starting punk romper. 90s garage punk ala Teengenerate, with the sneer of the Saints, and the hooks of the Zeros. It's not all grime and grit though THE Circs find time to get a little introspective on a few tunes and even throw a punk ballad into the mix that is every bit as great as "I Want You Around" or "You Might Get Me." An extremely impressive debut. Beer Flingin! Totally Rippin!! and 100% Totally Punk!!!
