Lerosa’s fourth full-length, Catena, is also his second for Berlin-via-LA label Acid Test. It sees the Dublin-based producer once again draw deeply on his diverse influences – dub, industrial, electro, trance, funk, IDM – and transform them into a sound signature that has always been uniquely his own. This alchemy is no accident. Rather it is driven by Lerosa’s ongoing pursuit of the fundamental meaning of dance music: to immerse ourselves in sound to the point where our only desire is to move and feel in the moment. Hence how, on Catena, the slow and sensual sway of a cavernous bit of dub can sit side-by-side with hands-up trance-like ecstasy, and all still sound like Lerosa. This achievement is the result of a dedicated daily studio practice. Each track starts from a dynamic studio jam in which Lerosa plays drum machines and synthesisers live and then overdubs them with further modulated layers. He uses looping techniques to build up the density of certain instruments while mixing the layers on-the-fly, using something as unassuming as an iPad. This imbues each track with a spontaneous shifting quality that defines the entire album. What comes through is a sound that speaks of Lerosa’s love for the studio, for the tangible substance of an audio frequency – analogue and digital, raw and processed, pure and saturated – and the intangible, indeed bewitching mystery of how these frequencies can transport us to other places.

Last year marked the reemergence of Anoesis following a 20-year hiatus. A highly respected producer across the ‘90s, specialising in interstellar IDM and electronica, Howard Dodd rose from his statis to release two new albums alongside a five-track EP on Cyphon Recordings last year. A bold statement and stake in the ground showcasing that Dodd’s production prowess has not faltered in that time, but has rather taken on a fresh vitality in this new chapter.

The Megacognition EP exudes Dodd’s distinctive style. A master at making tracks that sound like they were created in an extraterrestrial laboratory, fed by long lost tapes of Detroit techno from ‘Planet Earth’.

Warped electro meets cybertronic electronica with a techno edge. ‘Voxelle’ then closes out the EP. A soul-rousing cut of euphoric deep house. Stargazed, sunrise hazed, it’s a track that can be deployed anytime, anywhere and is sure to leave a lasting mark. Layers of luscious pads and celestial strings topped with an infectious synthline that will suspend you weightlessly in a bubble of worry-banishing brilliance.

Y2C pick up on that dreamy vibe but throw in that slight and subtle Trance-factor, taking up speed with »Romantic Squat«, dragging you into their very own romantic squat. Adam Beyer shares his first Truesoul release in eight years, linking with Raxon for a rare collaborative outing. This year has been one of Adam Beyer’s most prolific of his career, so it seems fitting he’d end it with a return to Drumcode’s little brother imprint Truesoul. His last dance on Truesoul was way back in 2015 with the masterful quartet of rollers ‘Time Flies’, which highlighted the Ibiza summer back then. Meanwhile the Barcelona-based Egyptian Raxon has contributed a pair of EPs to Truesoul, ‘Heliopolis’ and ‘Cosmic Cure’, since his debut in 2017. A Raxon production is a special thing – otherworldly and colourful, inspired by the vastness of the universe. The pair took their time swapping ideas back and forth until Beyer shared the main bassline groove for the Day Mix of ‘The Signal’ and the collaboration immediately started to take shape. The track is built around a riveting call-and-response synth lead, while a mélange of gritty drums with a foot in electro, cosmic and psy, drive proceedings forward. The Night Mix increases the intensity, tuning the main melody for late-night, pumping dancefloor moments.

Black Truffle is pleased to announce a tenth anniversary reissue of Oren Ambarchi’s Quixotism, originally released on Editions Mego in 2014. Recorded with a multitude of collaborators in Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA, Quixotism presents the fruit of two years of work in the form of a single, LP-length piece in five parts. Quixotism takes the driving rhythmic aspect of works such as Sagittarian Domain to new levels, with the entirety of this long-form work built on a foundation of pulsing double-time electronic percussion provided by Thomas Brinkmann. Beginning as almost subliminal propulsion behind cavernous orchestral textures and John Tilbury’s delicate piano interjections, the percussive elements (elaborated on by Ambarchi and Matt Chamberlain) slowly inch into the foreground of the piece before suddenly breaking out into a polyrhythmic shuffle around the halfway mark, and joined by master Japanese tabla player U-zhaan for the piece’s final, beautiful passages.

The pulse acts as thread leading the listener through a heterogeneous variety of acoustic spaces, from the concert hall in which the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra were recorded to the intimacy of crys cole’s contact-mic textures. Ambarchi’s guitar itself ranges over this wide variety of acoustic spaces, from airless, clipped tones to swirling, reverberated fog. Within the complex web Ambarchi spins over the piece’s steadily pulsing foundation, elements approach and recede in a non-linear fashion, even as the piece plots an overall course from the grey, almost Nono-esque reverberated space of its opening section to the crisp foreground presence of Jim O’Rourke’s synth and Evyind Kang’s strings in its final moments. Formally indebted to the side-long workouts of classic Cologne techno, the long-form works of composers such as Éliane Radigue and the organic push and pull of improvised performance, Quixotism is constantly in motion, yet its transitions happen slowly and steadily, often nearly imperceptible, the diverse elements which make up the piece succeeding one another with the logic of a dream.

At the time of its first release, Quixotism was clearly a summation of Ambarchi’s work in the years leading up to it. Now, listening back a decade later, it also seems like an arrow pointing to the future, suggesting paths that would be explored further in works to come: the pulsating guitar layers of Hubris, the album-length collaboration with Jim O’Rourke and U-zhaan on Hence, Shebang’s joyous layering and percussive drive. Now sounding better than ever in a new remaster by Joe Talia, the time is ripe to rediscover its quixotic charms.

In the context of the latest mammoth project »earquake – Wolfgang Voigt 1991-1999«, a comprehensive digital new-, respectively initial release of Voigt’s almost entire musical work of the 1990s, there are also some so far unpublished pieces going to be released on vinyl. The UK artist hailing from Bristol has long been on Adam Beyer’s radar. He made his debut on Drumcode’s sub label Truesoul in 2019, teaming up with Will Clarke for their standout EP, ‘Our Love’. Since then, Eli Brown’s sound has continued to evolve and develop, with his signature dark and subversive sonics exhibiting on labels such as on Filth On Acid, We Are The Brave and his Arcane imprint earning high praise in techno circles.
His maiden contribution to Drumcode is in the form of his high-octane four track EP ‘Deep Down’. The title track ‘Deep Down’ has been a go-to weapon for Adam Beyer who’s been slaying it at Awakenings, Ultra Europe x Resistance and Loveland. It’s a dynamic, vocal-led production driven by a squelchy psy-laced synth line. ‘Nazareth’ is a pumping acid-infused stomper that galvanised the masses at Tomorrowland. Brown draws inspiration from Detroit for ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’, a track that delicately balances an exuberant soul vocal with a nostalgic rave vibe. Djebali has been releasing his twist on House and Techno since 2008 via the the likes of Fuse London's label and sub-label Infuse, Burnski’s Aesthetic, Chez Damier’s Balance Music, REda daRE Records and of course his own self-titled Djebali label which has been the predominant home for his output over the past decade. Here though we see Djebali join the roster of the fledgling Trmnl Records, launched by the Birmingham club night of the same name so far the imprint has unveiled two EP’s by East End Dubs and Samu.l to date and here the story continues. Title-cut ‘Rave Vision’ leads with a squelchy acid bassline and robust drums running alongside gritty stabs, spacey atmospheric pads and choppy vocal samples. ‘Line 56’ follows, shifting focus to dubby stab sequences, heavily swung drums and a bumpy bass groove all flowing with a subtly nuanced feel throughout. The Hypnotic floaty sounds of ‘Cotton Candy’ then round out the release, diving deeper via an amalgamation of airy synth flutters, resonant synth licks and snaking subs atop a shuffled drum groove.

They have certainly been one of the few acts in the past decade to successfully redefine the term “crossover” in music thanks to their genre hopping creative tact. Now, WhoMadeWho team up with Kompakt to bring you this very special release. Following a long tour and still riding on success of their last full length "The Plot"(2009), in early 2010 the Copenhagen trio isolated themselves in several rooms of an semi-built hotel near the harbour of their hometown. The days at the hotel quickly evolved into a musical pendant of a tour-de-chambre, with ideas being kicked back and forth between the band members working in separate rooms. During the writing process, two musical directions occurred and instead of trying to merge the two, the band decided to record two albums. First up is what we have here - the mini album "Knee Deep”, while the full length is set for release later this year. This eight track mini album clearly shows the band's love for electronic music in conjunction with 60’s inspired psychedelic vocal productions. The band has deliberately chosen to save the more melodic and radio friendly songs for "the second album" though it’s obvious that the single “Every Minute Alone” is one of the most brooding and greatest songs we’ve heard from them. As drummer and electronic handyman Tomas Barfod puts it, the mini album came from the desire to create "a focused listening album that draws on a more abstract musical starting point.” Even from the very first minute of the opening track, “There's An Answer", it becomes obvious that WhoMadeWho are painting with a darker pallet than on previous records. With an intense use of bass clarinet and a forward driving beat, the song reflects certainty and insecurity in search of answers: "There's an answer to it / There must be an answer to it." These themes of turmoil and searching are also present on the first single, "Every Minute Alone": "Every hour of doubt / Trying to figure it out / Should I call you up?"

Drumcode starts 2020 with a sterling EP from genre hero Thomas Schumacher, his first on the label after a long association with Adam Beyer.
No ifs or buts, if you’re a techno fan, Thomas Schumacher holds a place in your heart. His 1997 classic ‘When I Rock’ still gets rinsed, he has a vast body of stellar work on his influential former label Spielzeug Schallplatten, including a release from Adam Beyer, and he continues to deliver pin-sharp productions via his Electric Ballroom imprint, including a scorching remix of ‘The House of House’, the 1994 classic from Cherry Moon Trax. The rework was first played by Beyer at Time Warp and has been a 2019 highlight.
He first contributed to Drumcode in 2018 with ‘The Unseen’, a stirring contribution to ‘A-Sides Vol.7’, setting up a maiden EP with ‘Crimson’. Crimson’ is crafted around two minutes of tension-building synths, before a beat finally appears and a rasping deep bassline commands the dancefloor. ‘Feist’ is a no-nonsense brain melter, as 303 arpeggios bloom and recede, creating a thrilling rhythmic intensity throughout. Lastly ‘Anker’ brings the rave with eagle-eye focus, unleashing a wall of fierce acid to round out off the release.

Bergsonist aka Selwa Abd is a New York–based artist and musician originally from Morocco. She is the founder of Bizaarbazaar, a music platform and publication that publishes podcasts and interviews by DJs and producers from around the world. Under the guise Bergsonist (derived from Deleuze’s Bergsonism), she uses a variety of media to investigate social resonance through divergent conceptual aesthetics (minimalism, techno, and music concrete, to name a few). Through her work, she explores notions of identity, memory, and social politics. In 2017, she started Pick Up The Flow, a resource to promote congregation and exchange between peers. Currently, co-run with Stephen Decker. In 2019, she co-founded 3afak with DJ Sanna, a collective that aims to empower Arab women’s creative vision in New York.

Neverdogs welcome Ray Mono and GruuvElement’s to Bamboleo Records this October to deliver their split EP entitled ‘Unsolved Smoker’.
A regular fixture amongst some of the world’s biggest line-ups, from The BPM Festival to Sunwaves and beyond, whilst releasing on notable imprints including Roush and Deeperfect, Italian duo Neverdogs added the title of label owners to their resume to open 2019, releasing material to date from Roberto Surace, Sebastian Ledher, Calvin Clarke, Manuel De Lorenzi, Matteo Gatti, Cosmin Horatiu and themselves via their Bamboleo Records imprint. For the label’s seventh release, the pairing now welcome two new names to the label in the form of rising UK talent Ray Mono, who arrives fresh from appearances on META and Moxy Muzik, and ever-impressing London based duo GruuvElement’s.
Ray Mono opens the A-side as he works bumping kicks, distorted vocal snippets and hazy pads amongst lead track ‘Mandala’, whilst ‘Unsolved’ sees the introduction of rolling percussion, low-slung grooves and snaking bleeps throughout. On the flip, GruuvElement’s introduce off-kilter synth patterns and sharp drum licks with ‘Smoker’, before rounding out the EP with ‘Shiny’, a stripped back and up-front cut fusing organic production licks and ever-evolving electronic melodies in slick fashion.

Boxia drops his debut album ‘a night in the life of’ on Drumcode. A musical portrait inspired by friends. Each track represents a personal memory.
Since breaking through in 2015, Boxia’s music has quickly progressed him into the upper echelons of underground dance music stardom. Quiet and unassuming by nature, his sound is drenched in transcendental atmosphere and evocative soundscapes; making it a perfect meeting place for the warehouse energy of Techno and the intelligent thoughtfulness of Progressive House.
For all of us, clubbing and nightlife are a myriad of sights, sounds and experiences. With the concept of this album, Boxia has sketched some of the characters he’s met along the way. “I wanted this album to be as much about the people that I’ve met, as it is about me. People I talk to every day; people I only encountered once, and my life long companions.” He says.
“Each track is inspired by my personal interactions with these people. The quiet but dedicated raver who never leaves their spot on the dance floor. The friend who disappears at every party but always turns up hours later with a huge smile on their face and an amazing story. The chance meeting with a complete stranger who shares your entire outlook on the world. Each track on this album sketches an audio portrait of these characters who have inspired me.”
Over the fourteen tracks, these ‘shared experiences’ take the form of warehouse stompers, melodic soundscapes and delicate, personal moments. More than just a collection of club tracks, ‘A Night In The Life Of’ lifts the lid on a producer with startling range and a razor sharp sonic palette, tapping into his own personal memories to create moments of incredible introspection.
Take opener and title track ‘A Night In The Life Of’ for example - which marries pounding beats, sparse percussion and Trance-like synth work to form a detailed picture in the minds of its listeners. Boxia takes you on a unique, ultimately uplifting journey with each track utilising texture, tone and emotion.
After six powerful and musically rich club tracks, the relative calm and broken beat stylings of ‘Give Love Always’ is perfectly placed, showcasing Boxia in melancholy reflection away from the bright lights and buzz of the main stage. Equally, the album’s closing track ‘Last Nightclub’ also benefits from a reflective
stance.
“I have shared experiences with such a diverse and wonderful crowd on both sides of the stage.” Boxia says, “I hope that in listening to this album, people will be able to see themselves, and their friends reflected in the tracks in the same way that I do - as each track aims to build an audio portrait of their identity.”

Yes, we’re presenting you a new label from Ukraine again. This time the name is Secret Keeper, the owner of the label is Orbit, and for the first release they’re having one of the secret gems of Kyiv – Luschn. And if you weren’t familiar with that name – it’s finally time to acknowledge him.

All of the tracks here are untitled, and we’re going straight to the B1. The shortest track on the record and also the most interesting one. With a pinch of old electro house and the base of old progressive house with all that additional buzzing, what’s not to like here, right?

Staying on the B-side, the track on the B2 position is by far the trippiest one here, taking you in weird minimal ways for six minutes. A1 here will probably be played the most with its spooky, grimy, ChristianAB-ish type of vibe. And also with a huge nod to the mid-noughties. The one on the A2 is a slow roller, that type of track, you always like to hear, when you’re a bit tired, but still want to continue dancing. It will recharge you for at least 5 minutes.
