FRAK are back on track with this dreamy album with deep dark hypnotic slow rhythmic tracks. This is experimental analog and haunting dancemusic at slow BPMs which gives you a glimpse of swedish smalltown dystopia in all its glory. The A1 track might give the impression that this is a romantic record and the A side in general will make big city people feel the urge to move to small towns again, but on the B-side it just gets darker and weirder (the smalltown kinda reveals its ugly underbelly) and it all ends with a track that would make the taped nipples fake fetishists in techno city shiver. I could say you need a mask to play this out, but lets not take it that far. For old fans of FRAK this record both delivers (A-side) and challenges (B-side). Me, I want doubles. -Joakim Cosmo

Positive Centre marks the 5th release on his In Silent Series label with 4 tracks of weighted mechanical workouts that feature his honed atmospheric style with brooding scenery and sharp percussive accents. Isolated Loop takes a crunched and spat out growl of an acid synth and blends it with ever developing drum machine patterns as a weaponised techno tool. Tension Arm builds on this with sharp percussion piercing over a hard edged bassline and atmospheric scenery. Idle Roller is a deep, sub-aquatic rhythm journeying to parts unknown with subtle switch in rhythm keeping the momentum going through this textured sound world. Sum Tolerance fractures open with stretched sounds of otherworldly instruments, sludge laden beats and humming bass pressure.

Raw formed during the summer of 1990 in Athens, Greece when keyboardist Giannis Papaioannou and percussionist Makis Faros started composing music for imaginary waiting rooms. They combined the traditional cut-up technique of tape-loops, the industrial timbres of musique concrète with the harmonics of world music, all filtered through digital sampling and computer programming. Their first recordings generated an 8-track demo, which was freely distributed among friends and the local underground press. After 6 months of work and several sessions with guest musicians on acoustic and electric instruments, Raw self-released their first album Land in December 1991 on Elfish Records. In 1992 they recruited the band’s sound engineer, Coti K., as a third member, both on stage and studio sessions. City was their second album fully inspired by the mechanisms of their home town. Presenting a different electronic face of Raw, manipulating rhythms with analogue synthesizers and harsh sampling to evoke the atmosphere of Athens. City was released on CD only by Elfish Records in 1994. Fragments is a collection of 4 songs from City presented on vinyl for the first time plus bonus track recorded during the City sessions previously released on a compilation in 1992. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each copy includes a double sided postcard with photos and notes.
