Gnashing hardcore spirit meets razor-sharp sound design in a keen collab between Svbkvlt MVP Gooooose and chiptune survivor DJ Scotch Egg, with searing remixes by Slikback and Seven Orbits & Tsvi. The debut collaboration between the Japanese and Chinese mentalists, ‘jac’ was forged in the wake of Nyege Nyege Tapes’ 2019 festival, where Shigeru Ishihara aka Scotch Egg’s playful sense of drama proved an ideal match for Gooooose’s precision-tuned, bespoke software in the studio. As mainstay of ‘00s electronica, with recent credits in Seefeel and WaqWaq Kingdom, Ishihara appears to lend a sort of cryptic sci-fi story-telling to the exacting, super-crisp contours and pointillist percussion of Gooooose across six surprisingly emotive works that provide a rocket fuel for the remixers, spurring Slikback to run riot while hard drum guys Tsvi & Seven Orbits double down on their already excellent work for Svbkvlt.

After a decade releasing club-savvy music, argentinian producer Alejandro Mosso has lately approached a richer and more profound sound. 'Gaia', his double 12" for Hivern, might be the best expression of such evolution. 'Gaia' is still conceived with the dance-floor in mind -as a matter of fact, some of its tracks have become staples in John Talabot's sets as well as in those of Hivern's core members-. But moreover making people move, it's music that shows a desire of telling stories. "I prefer to refer to them as songs instead of tracks, they all have a certain narrative", says Alejandro. Indeed, these six compositions cover a vast emotional spectrum, expressing raw emotions through detailed and precise productions that never feel too calculated or fabricated. Cuts as Rhea, Uranus and Naiads capture a very specific kind of serene bliss, one in which melancholy is more reassuring than bitter. By contrast, Ares and Dryads explore darker corners, embodying angst through tension-rising soundscapes and solemn choral vocal samples. It's a dichotomy that perfectly captures the ups and downs of any restless mind. In Alejandro's case, it's the result of a particularly introspective period in his life, in which he voluntarily disconnected from the electronic scene in order to regain some perspective on his career and creative process.

Schwefelgelb is a techno duo from Berlin, known for their raw but precise and cutting productions. Their reputation for a strikingly energetic live show brought them into clubs and festivals around the globe.

After seeing us off with last year’s ‘Your Skulls Are To Us What The Sun Is To You’ for Industrial Coast, the duo’s instinct for ace titles is in effect again on ‘The New Age Is Shit’, which pretty much sums up the record’s antithetical stance and the band’s scything iconoclastic approach to rhythm and noise-induced madness within.

‘Determination’ sets out with 11mins of meat motoring bass pound and thick layers of distortion that build up to a full 18-wheeler traction and keep it there. ‘Seen It All Been It All’ trudges thru thickest of razor wire noise and worksite klangs, and they really hit between the like eyes like a Nate Young Regression doozy with ’Stuck In A Dead End Man’, before yoking some kind of Pan Sonic-esque dub noise sludge in their lurching, drunken title cut. Some of their best gear, is it not?!

Our new slice of wax comes this time from outer space made somewhere between unknown galaxies and black holes. So it’s an honor for us to have 30drop onboard. For this special occasion 30drop provides six cuts of futuristic techno but with a ravey approach in a time backspin that brings us back to the 90’s via Sci-Fi, reminding in some way of the early UR records, when Mad Mike and Jeff Mills worked together on the soundtrack of the future. This is our first mini LP with 3 cuts per side. The first cut is Brain reset, the short drone intro soon leads to a relentless groove made of repetitive sequences over a fast groove. Intense and obsessive. Mental Understanding brings more minimalistic ingredients, absence of hi hats, just kick drum and synth lines. Brain effervescence showcases the infamous 90’s hoover sound bringing the rave element and 303 acid lines all merged in a lawless and dense mixture. B side opens with Self awareness, starting with ethereal atmospheres, spiced with resonant bleeps and micro drones in a beat-less exercise. Klapaucjusz brings back the 90’s feeling again with analogue arpeggios and melodies, again over a clean groove in a Detroit oriented number. Closing the release, Knowledge, a space odyssey of strings, abstract synth lines and flotation. Through her work, she explores notions of identity, memory, and social politics. In 2017, she started Pick Up The Flow, a resource to promote congregation and exchange between peers. Currently, co-run with Stephen Decker. In 2019, she co-founded 3afak with DJ Sanna, a collective that aims to empower Arab women’s creative vision in New York.
