Talking about confidns, it is impossible not to mention the rumors and legends surrounding their 2016 residency
during the Afterlife label nights, hosted by Tale Of Us every thursday at famed Space Club Ibiza. The two Berlin based
long term friends, who grew up in Mannheim, Germany attracted attention with their super long dj-sets, lasting up to
8 hours.
Performing the warm up on the Space Club’s sunset terrace and closings in the chamber, the duo, founded in 2015,
proofed a mesmerizing sense for playing with the crowd. They mastered the artistic challenge of leading the audience
through the night, with both spherical ambient sets and driving techno beats. Confidns does not shy away from mixing
timeless classics from genres like ebm, synth pop, dub and industrial techno with unforgettable pieces/tracks, such as
from boards of Canada and Tropic of Cancer in their ambient sets. One could already experience the two daredevils in
clubs like Nordstern Basel, Labyrinth Club Hasselt, Egg Club London and Loft Club Ludwigshafen, where they played
two sets of 7 hours alongside Chris Liebing and Dj Deep during the official Time Warp 2017 pre-party.

2017 is promising to be an exciting year for confidns. In addition to gigs at the Afterlife showcase in Privilege Ibiza
and the Sziget Festival in Budapest, the duo will start their collaboration with the booking agency Artist Alife and
“AMM” ask my management.

Decadent Yet Depraved, the debut album by Belief Defect, finds shelter and complicity in Raster as home and label. Familiar with the underground music scene and how its skeptical nature can also be an obstacle to overcome, Belief Defect abandon any claim or credit in an attempt to transcend the limits authorship imposes, avoid the boundaries or expectations earned or self imposed and find the clearest, most direct path to their music for themselves and the listener. At the core of the album is the music that inspired them, the conclusion of countless recordings listened to in their formative years that ultimately result in a life-long devotion to electronic music: from dance floor to primal anger and self-annihilating noise, to transcendental, ambient escapism and intense self-reflexive sonic layering. The result is a soundtrack for this apocalyptic time, an uncompromising reflection on the state of mankind and its uncertain future, underscored by a sense of religious and secular demise referenced in track titles, samples, and soundscapes scattered throughout the album. In terms of experimental, techno, very few come close to the impact that this UK producer has had on the scene. With a sound that is rarely classifiable, Randomer’s Dekmantel contribution is a staggered, minimally-twisted, dark, kind-of-two step, awesome thing. Versatile Records’ Gilb’R has found himself an integral part of the Dutch scene since moving to Amsterdam, and brings forth his organic, percussive grooves that have helped define his music, and label to date. Salon Des Amateurs’ Tolouse Low Trax provides a seasoned session of amniotic, grizzled, hypnotic post-everything music, that is eerily discomforting and wonderfully pleasurable at the same time. And on the EP’s fourth track, Parisian techno wizard, Voiski adds layered organic, futuristic loops that work to stale the progress of time, and space.

To date the 10-year anniversary series has seen new releases by the likes of The Egyptian Lover, Levon Vincent, Gigi Masin, Fatima Yamaha, Burnt Friedman, and many more. Each record is held together by stylistic glue, touching upon the varying facets that come to define Dekmantel as a label, and event series. Along the way, many pioneering artists have been brought under the Dekmantel umbrella, making their debuts on the label – and this, the seventh EP is of no exception, with Gilb’R, and Tolouse Low Trax all releasing their first full tracks with the Dutch imprint, while Randomer and Voiski, having previously released on Dekmantel’s UFO techno side imprint, are also brought into the main fold.

Perfumes Of A Spring Mist delicately opens this latest EP with entrancing, processed soundscapes, beautifully haunting melody and simple rhythmic elements than seem to evolve naturally allowing you to get lost in the sea of vibrations. Xpan leans on the more classic Dub Techno sound from Deepchord of years passed. Sub heavy beats and jagged yet tranquil synths sweep across the palette as Deepchord plays with constantly fluctuating chords, bringing the quintessential 90s Deep Techno into his more modern, processed sound. Title track Campfire brings ambience to the forefront to close out the EP. Melancholic synth elements drift across an expanse of refined and uniquely crafted field recordings, offering an insight into the areas from which Deepchord draws his inspiration.

Once again Deepchord proves to be one of the most visionary artists the electronic world has seen.

Eric Maltz is a producer from New York City and now resides in Berlin, Germany.

La Fleur releases her new EP ‘Right Behind You’ via her own Power Plant imprint. The EP includes two tracks, ‘Circadian’, and the title track ‘Right Behind You’ - both showcasing La Fleur’s in-demand brand of groovy, vocal techno. The EP release marks the end of La Fleur’s busiest summer on record. A residency at Hot Since 82’s Labyrinth parties at Pacha in Ibiza, touring Brazil with the Watergate crew and remixing their new single from the mighty Sasha have lead to it being a season to remember. The title track, ‘Right Behind You’, features vocals from Austrian vocalist/songwriter Lula, who is best known for her distinctive work on Danny Tenaglia club classics like La Fleur favourite ‘Read My Lips’. La Fleur said: “Lula’s voice is special and distinct. Hearing her unique way of vocalising on favourite tracks of mine from back in the day (like Tenaglia’s ‘98 single ‘Read My Lips’ for example), I just felt I had to reach out to her. Creating ‘Right Behind You’ was a labour of love and we spent months working on it until we finally got to the definitive version.

With heavy support coming from Ricardo Villalobos, Praslesh, Rhadoo and more, this package is sure to make some noise on the dance floor. More rudeness for your pleasure from the co-founder of the Permanent Vacation kingdom, Benjamin Fröhlich: One Year after the well received first Rude Movements EP and the accompanied remixes Benjamin Fröhlich returns for another round. The second part of the "Rude Movements” series brings you further adventures into the world of dance music from the past and present. It covers percussive space trance , roaring synth jams to stab-driven and flute-infused house workouts and dubby breakbeat steppers, all happily dancing under one roof.

Geodetic is the joint venture of well-known Italian experimentalist Claudio Rocchetti, a close collaborator of Valerio Tricoli, and Jukka Reverberi, founder of post-rock band Giardini di Mirò and half of cosmic electro-disco duo Crimea X.Instruments of Discipline is proud to release ‘Cold Lights’, Geodetic’s second EP, the follow up to ‘Broken Consonance’, released on Maple Death Records earlier this year. ‘Cold Lights’ is an avant-garde undertaking that artfully weaves soundscapes that swing between murky industrial atmospheres to moments of uplifting levity, all held together by strong rhythmic grooves, a collage of at times familiar sounds juxtaposed into an altogether unfamiliar whole.

Dark Entries and Serendip Lab have teamed up to release ‘Prototech’, the first vinyl retrospective by German electronic trio Hypnobeat, recorded 1984-86. James Dean Brown and Pietro Insipido formed Hypnobeat in 1983, but it was the addition of Victor Sol only a few months later that found the project reaching, as Brown puts it, "the desired level of technical sophistication." In time, Tobias Freund also lent his talents (and equipment) to this loose-fit sonic scheme, where the protagonists sought a new, electronic manifestation of mankind’s tribal music roots. Two cassette releases surfaced – 1985’s "Huggables", and "Specials/Spatials" the following year. By this point the Frankfurt-based group had already explored fiercely mechanical creative expression through various configurations of hardware and personnel, revolving around core ingredients such as the TR-808, TB-303 and MC-202. The project lived on in spirit as Brown activated Narcotic Syntax in the 90s. While a more modern, digital concern, rooted in the Perlon label family, NS still channeled the Hypnobeat concept of a "new tribalism", not least on their "Provocative Percussion" double 12" released in 2006. For all the punky veneer, there are instances where these tracks reach staggering levels of sophistication, not least on "Slash! Buffalo Eats Brass" with its intricately programmed 303 lines and nimble beats that sound a far cry from most machine music made in 1986. Prescient "Can God Rewind?" is also dazzling in the complexity of its percussion and the richness of its synth lines in C as they throb out a bastardised version of acidic Disco straight out of the rhythm collider. Elsewhere, some tracks are more primal in their execution. Visceral opening track "The Arumbaya Fetish" was a cathartic venting of Brown’s least favourite sound on the 808, the iconic cowbell, while the astounding proto-Acid miniature "Moon Jump" places limber 303 lead lines in a hail of thunderstruck patterns. "Kilian" has a stripped down quality that speaks more to the industrial era that Hypnobeat was conceived in, and "Mission In Congo" is a raw, reverb-soaked drum workout that captures the percussive-obsessive nature of Hypnobeat perfectly. Six of the seven tracks selected on this collection were primarily powered by two 808s. "I am amazed that the release sounds like we really had a plan back then…" states Brown, but this accidental magic is in fact the raison d’etre of Hypnobeat. They weren’t the only ones prefiguring the next big revolutions in electronic music in the mid 80s, but there certainly weren’t many artists stumbling across modes of expression that sound so relevant today.

All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in a jacket featuring cave engravings by Pietro Insipido of an archer and animal printed in a wallpaper pattern style designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes an transparent insert of an x-ray photograph from 1984 of Romulus Cœurque holding the circuit board of a BOSS DR-55 rhythm machine.

Two of the leading artists in dub techno and ambient electronics produced four cuts between their extensive studios in New York and Stockholm, with the results sitting in between the powerful oscillations of Echologist’s previous EP for Kynant (KYN005) and the slo-mo, Roland jams TM404 specialises in.

The second addition to the TXTRL vinyl series comes courtesy of label owners, 138. Three analogue techno jams accompanied by a driving remix from AnD.

Alvin Toffler was overwhelmed. When in the morning of October 4th, 1988–it was his 60th birthday–he was starring with a still somewhat absent look into a bowl of cornflakes, he thought that in the surface structure of the yellowish shimmering milk which was making an emulsion with the maple syrup and slowly but irreversibly corroding the crunchy crystals on the flakes, he could see through a window into a timeless dimension. Toffler, who at that time had reached the peak of his fames as a future scientist, was sustainably disturbed from his peek into this extra temporary peephole. In none of his books–“Future Shock” had just been released with yet another edition featuring a proud printed note on the book cover stating “more than 5 million copies in print”–did he ever mention this occurrence. Even after his death in June 2016, no note on this incident could ever be found in his estate. The “flake dimension” as Toffler called it in notes which were later shredded remains a secret of opaque, hard-to-grasp radiant power.

Maybe it’s too simple to describe “Pneumatics“ as a creation coming from this cornflake world? Without doubt. Are there any more precise terms or instruments to determine the multifacetedness and beyond-timeliness of the “Pneumatics” soundscape? There are still unknown. “Pneumatics” is, after releases at Innervisions, Die Orakel und his own label Sound Mirror, the debut album of Orson Wells (as long as you don’t count in “Jupiter” – Wells’s first LP which was released in 2014 with 48 copies on cassette–have fun digging for rarities and bargains!).
Perhaps Wells, known in Frankfurt under his real name Lennard Poschmann and as an employee at the record store Tactile, is only a messenger. Or a psychic. The sound manifesto that he apparently transmits from Toffler’s secret dimension tells of a city of upside down pyramids (“Tianon”), of passes into the land of the five elements (“Multipass”) and dead straight four-to-the-floor lines which appear bended within the spherical dimension (“”Geodesic”). These beats are right on the heels of the ones of Intersteller Fugitives; the strings sound like that at any moment a vocal sample edited by Moodyman could warp over through the Cornflake wormhole. Pneumatics is the science of all technological applications powered by condensed and often by quite heated air. It is a matter of mechanics, compression, jackhammer, ramblings, high pressure levels, valves for blowing of steam. On “Pneumatics” it’s all about this. And more. Orson Wells’s album gets to the point of the post-retro futuristic state of the dancefloors of the house and techno clubs of this planet. It is like a peek into another dimension, right on the golden cut of spacetime geometry.

Saturne is the new project from ASC & Sam KDC. It came to life a few years back, as a non-specific genre approach to writing music. The first outing from the pair under this guise focuses on Grey Area compatible deep hypnotic techno cuts. 'Trace Elements' shows the pairs intent to deliver intricate, atmospheric, genre-fusing tracks of a standard that has come to be expected for their output over the years.

Doorly's Reptile Dysfunction continues to prove itself to be one of the most vibrant and singular labels around, this time tapping up legendary producer Jaydee for its latest release.

Jaydee is a dance music pioneer. Best know for the seminal 'Plastic Dreams' - a track that, somewhat terrifyingly for those who remember it the first time around, will be celebrating its 25 th anniversary next year - he has continued to be a leading light in innovative house and techno productions, releasing on R&S and Ellum Audio in the last few years.

Here, he teams up with fellow dance music visionary Doorly for a searingly brilliant release on the latter's Reptile Dysfunction imprint. 'Acid Pressure EP' presents two original cuts from Jaydee, with supporting remixed from Doorly and Trooko.

Kicking things off, 'Back Into Acid' opens with stunningly heartfelt pads before building to a killer acid line via shimmering percussion and erotically charged vocal snatches. 'Bring The Pressure' is more direct: a house roller softened by Basic Channel-esque chords and with added rhythm courtesy of the accompanying ragga
chants.

On the remix front, Doorly flips 'Back Into Acid' into something far more menacing, with fierce synths stabs and rolling drums creating a head down stomper, while Trooko chops 'Back Into Pressure' into pieces, crafting a thumping main room house cut from the constituent parts, complete with an epic, piano-led breakdown.

STRICTLY STRICTLY is a new label with 4 heavy MPC-based house-jams by Berlin-based producer RWIN. Strictly emotional affect with lush and spheric sedatives on the a-side and strictly dance-floor material on the b-side where he prays for jack and compels to move.

Mothball Record continue to branch out from their Italo-disco roots while staying true to a high quality of unique and obscure music. This latest release is a collection of 90s rave and hardcore inspired tracks with an unmistakable euphoric/melancholic Dutch flavor from mysterious producer Ruud Jansen. No less than six strong and diverse tracks provide options for all occasions, from home listening to techno parade.

Packed with four summery, gleaming tracks on this first entry, moving your feet on the beach and your hips by the pool. Das Komplex and Manuel Binder ft. Julian Stetter dazzle with their groove and stirring playfulness while RSS Disco and Conga Fever deliver the soothing companions that will tingle your balearic sentiments. This kinda love is a once in a lifetime groove! Visually, Mireia records is always on the lookout for the extraordinary. “We’ll Sea” offers beautifully marbled purple vinyl, housed in a heavy clear sleeve; hand stamped labels and a sticker.

It obviously had to have a great effect when Kling Klong head honcho Martin Eyerer could convince legendary german producer Patrick Chardronnet (Eve By Day) to spend some common time in the studio. And the result should definitely spank any festival floor this summer.

The Squirrels are back. Their second platter comes courtesy of KIT 'N C.L.A.W.S. (say it out loud), the cheekily-named collaborative project from Squirrels On Film co-founder Brian Hock and veteran San Francisco producer Kit Clayton, and just like the label's first record, it's a woozy, wobbly trip designed for dancefloors drifting between dimensions.
Savvy techno heads will recognize Kit Clayton's name from his decades of experience at the avant-garde of electronic music. In the late '90s, he and partners Tang Tran and Juan Mendez (now better known as Silent Servant) launched Cytrax, a groundbreaking minimal techno label that paved the way for the clicks 'n cuts sound of the early aughts. His debut album — Nek Sanalet, first released in 1999 on Stefan Betke's seminal label ~scape and reissued in 2015 — remains one of dub techno's most enduring documents. Meanwhile, Brian Hock moonlights as the drummer for deranged Bay Area post-punk outfit Bronze while recording murky electro-techno excursions as C.L.A.W.S.

Together as Kit 'n C.L.A.W.S., Clayton and Hock's sound signatures merge seamlessly. SOF 02 opens with "Urn of Stilled Sorrows," in which deep, dubby chords are painted against a spectral backdrop of flute and ghastly wind. Soon a chugging mid-tempo beat appears, and the record's magic becomes apparent: it's as atmospheric as it is irresistibly groovy. Next, "Mariners and Masts" showcases a rubbery acid squelch, setting it against a simple-but-unforgettable synthesizer melody. Last but not least is the pure mood of "The Skies Themselves," a deeply affecting haunted jam that eschews beats in favor of undulating, mesmerizing tones.

Squirrels on Film's second record highlights the strange and beautiful mystique of Bay Area electronic music, with much more to come — watch this space.
