Ren Schofield has returned with a new installment in his notorious "LP" series for Spectrum Spools. "LP" has all the earmarks of the classic Container sound with it's uber-mangled, saturated tape garble and headlong tempo macabre. However, this new set of tracks feature an attention to composition unlike much of the Container we've previously heard. While the tracks unfurl across two sides of wax the contours and jagged edges of each sonic sculpture display a new refinement while maintaining the full capacity to vaporize any club floor with Container's traditional recklessness.
Miraculously, this new "LP" manages to incorporate some more traditionally 'musical' elements thus far untouched upon in the projects output while simultaneously delivering it's most damaged and blown out offering yet. Despite leaving a trail of albums that get more intense with each passing year, this "LP" is bar none the most loaded. The tracks feature a trajectory with narrative, surrounded by broken acid basslines grating against disintegrating tape loops. This is the infectious and singular hypnosis Container has become well-known for. Overloaded drum patterns, washes of feedback, and dying melodies - it's all here and somehow it's restructured to be different and better than ever before. With this latest installment, there are no longer shambles but merely dust left behind.
As Container continues to evolve in an upward motion, "LP" presents a refreshing and welcome new chapter.

After showcasing his knack for emotive productions via various EPs throughout his career, including chart-topping singles on Hot Since 82's Knee Deep in Sound and Dave Seaman's Selador, the Swiss artist Several Definitions now reveals his first full-length album. It should come as no surprise that the artist found familiarity in what he calls the "Berlin style" of electronic music and notably, that of Oliver Koletzki's Stil vor Talent. Reborn After The Road is an intense and emotional affair, consisting of 14 tracks crafted using field and live recordings, switching between analogue and digital to mould a sonic atmosphere that emblazons the artist's core ethos. Although the personal experience that sparked the inspiration for the LP is far from pleasant, Several Definitions' style is audibly resolute. Reborn After The Road, the album's eponymous track, creates a fitting intro for the healing process that is to follow. Its airy pads and majestic strings sonically stand at the epicenter of the expressive album. Several Definitions continues to explore these sounds on vaporous slices like Pontce?ard 32 or the more acidical Last Breath. The mellifluous, feminine vocals of LaMeduza on Learn To Feel and Her, as well as Spanish singer Goldsun's crooner talents on the introspective Trust, on the other hand, showcase Several Definitions' ability to work the human voice into his musical explorations. Taking introspection one step further towards darker realms, Senelity then feels like a rite of passage into the deeper and more intense segment at the album's core. Over You briefly signals a turning point, with its alarm-like synths and grave leads, which is then followed by the glitchy resistance on Modular Spaces.

New York-based label Kindergarten Records is thrilled to unveil Ayesha’s debut album, ‘Rhythm is Memory’ – 10 boundary-pushing tracks, a shape-shifting percussive journey with electric moments. While intended for maximum dancefloor impact, Ayesha’s first LP is also conceptually thought-provoking and playful, exploring how bodies store and channel creative knowledge.

A self-taught producer, Ayesha relies on her instincts to make music: sensing what her body wants to feel and hear. To her, essential to building a groove is channeling what is already inside us – memories – whether they are based on lived experience or coded in the body: culturally, ancestrally, or intergenerationally. The result is this Indian-American producer’s distinct rhythmic voice, with its many configurations boldly expressed across her debut album.

Kindergarten first released Ayesha’s material in 2020 with her ‘Natural Phenomena’ EP, a four-track journey which she described as “an undulating love letter to nature and the dancefloor, [a] space where [her] biophilia collides with her yearning for the dancefloor.” Subsequently, she continued to build upon her luminous, scintillating sound with a contribution to ‘Fluo II’ titled “Aspara Dub”, followed by “Varanasi” and “Downpour” on ‘Ether’, a split release with Sha Ru in 2021. With each release, Ayesha's sound evolved, adding shades, layers, and perpetual rhythmic nuance to a mind palace of dancefloor possibilities.

That is why her and Kindergarten are a perfect match -- driven by their mutual fascination with exploratory sonics and a shared commitment to the community that inspires them. Kindergarten Records has shaped itself into a trailblazing label, uniting a diverse and innovative collective of local and international producers, while embodying a strong familial atmosphere.This debut LP represents a significant step-up for both the artist and the imprint, as they strive harmoniously towards a shared goal: delivering a sonic experience full of colorful, otherworldly bass-fueled expansion.

‘Rhythm is Memory’ captures Ayesha’s signature love for driving techno and organic percussion, while at moments veering into newer electro territory while keeping it psychedelic, spacious, dubby, and always playful. Dark Entries’ resident scuzzmasters De-Bons-en-Pierre return with the Card Short of a Full Deck EP, featuring six tracks of their signature sludge. In 2016, Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti fused forces in order to infect the world with their mutant analog strain, a noxious hybrid of 80’s DIY cassette electronics and 90’s Birmingham techno. Serendipities surround the collaboration between Berlin's Stroboscopic Artefacts label founder Lucy and their most recent record with Malaysian Bangkok based emerging artist Wanton Witch. The release culminates in the reimagining of WW debut LP as seen and felt through the lens of Lucy. This is a follow up full-length album by Lucy not approached as a usual remixes record, but instead a fully fleshed out new body of work with the WW material being an integral part of Lucy's sonic palette.

Despite the label hiatus during the first year of lockdowns, the isolation of the pandemic helped create a fertile ground for a back and forth between Wanton Witch and Lucy's own distinct sound palettes to collide. With the normal every day pressures of touring lifted and enlightened by WW's sonic world, Lucy has seen this as a positive opportunity to manifest new pathways of connectivity and process a phase of personal growth. Not simply about the breaking of gender lines, but also about the blurring of creative boundaries, especially when making music.

Lucy's original patronage of Wanton Witch and her relatively fresh and new voice in the electronic music scene can be seen as a contribution to this idea of dismantling industry norms. In more than a decade of SA operations this is a reset moment for the label's mission focusing on empowering new talent, refreshing and growing with them, presenting a dynamic two-way process bewtween the label as a whole and the individual artists output.

Pavel Fedoseev is Kikok. As one of the few remaining members of the Komi tribe, he used the Komi words Ki (= arm) and Kok (= leg) as his brandname "Pretty important elements for a human being, aren't they?" he says of the name. Born in Kudymkar (capital of the Komi-Permyak nation) , now lives in Perm, no less than a 22-hour train journey east of Moscow, placing Fedoseev in what, he says, feels like cultural and social isolation.This 10 track album acts as a means to escape the monotonous cycle of his hometown. A remix album of Tolerance by Osaka-based electronic musician Junya Tokuda released from remodel, a label established by Yuzuru Agi and Studio Warp. In addition to performing live and releasing works, Junya Tokuda runs the web label Linesound and organizes the electronic music event "Line". His previous releases include "map not seen EP" (Linesound, 2011), "A Day In The Alley" (shrine.jp, 2016), "Unleash EP" (LongLongLabel, 2018), and "No Man's Land" (shrine.jp, 2020). jp, 2020). remodel also released solo album, "Anemic Cinema", in April 2021, prior to this work, and his track was included in a two-disc compilation, "a sign 2", released in May 2020. This album "vanity Re-make/re-model Vol.1" is a remix album using material from the Tokyo-based project Tolerance by Junko Tange from Vanity Records. The production was done in parallel with "Anemic Cinema" (late August 2020 to mid-December 2020), and the basic musicality, especially the brilliant treatment of sound by dub-like spatial effects, is common to both works. However, in this album, the material of Tolerance is sometimes vague and fragmented like a torn tape swimming on the surface of the water, and at other times like a tape reel rolling down from the ocean-like sound image created by the skillful blending of pads and moving noises through the manipulation of dub effects. The tactile sensation of poking and stroking the ears (like Asmr), which was also felt in "Anemic Cinema," is more vividly revealed by the carefully considered incorporation of a foreign object. In addition, the instrumental aspect of Toleranece's musicianship, especially the effective use of the electric piano sound, is also impressive. Interestingly, in other tracks, the bassline exerts a strong pull and draws out the phrasing aspect of Junya Tokuda's musicianship as if in response to the electric piano. Junya Tokuda's music, which even creates an organic feel with its deft handling of generated sounds and samples, reveals its caliber and hidden patterns through the inclusion of Tolerance voices, noises, and instruments that seem hard, rough, and axially distorted. It is an exhilarating and magical work.

Across these 7 untitled tracks (as is the modus of all blundar releases) the producer known as Unfinished Portraits crafts a coherent album experience that is equal parts empty space and density. Working in a seemingly collage-like fashion, the opening track juxtaposes rhythmic elements that just barely fit together; declaring upon entrance that all expectations from here on out are futile. Tension builds through a sparse palette of sounds both tactile and atmospheric. Dry, isolated clicks of digital clean trickling through a humming industrial space. Segments are abstract on their own, but stitched together still form an elegant whole. Just when you think you’re getting lost into avant experimentation, something cuts in to surprising effect. It feels “live” in a way only improvised music can.

And there is a conceptual sense of humor in letting the seams of the process lay bare. A string section builds only to be cut short upon completion. A field recording is audibly (i.e. intentionally) looped. The listener is made aware of the illusion and manipulations that ‘music’ creates in the same way Martin Margiela handled ‘fashion’ - with a postmodern kind of wit.

Hailing from Cairo but residing in Argentina, Unfinished Portraits could easily exude upon a dual exoticism in nationalities and climates. This is however not on the agenda, as for where this artist truly resides, is in the hypertextual realm of late capitalism. Identity loss, internet culture, the aesthetic of sadness and the Warp Records catalogue all come into play.

No matter what city, the urban landscape is always concrete and glass. And as the sleeve photo suggests - a picture of a former park turned to rubble in the process of housing developments - all cities are essentially unfinished.

The award winning Danish producer and live performer, also known for her extensive compositional & soundtrack work for video games, international theatre and dance productions – as well as her own installation projects, debuts on the Avian label with ‘Entangled’. Forged in the unique crucible of SØS Gunver Ryberg’s multidisciplinary practice ‘Entangled’, stalks a hard line at the edge of techno’s stormiest sector. A thrilling meeting of divergent disciplines and sound system metrics with a keen skill for the composition of uncompromising club works, Ryberg’s technique lies in the vital declaration of her own borders in every setting. Comprised of six club focused pieces, the mini LP applies itself to rhythmic intensity with a deft touch. Galloping granulated walls envelope you at every turn as brittle melancholic pads ease you from one moment to the next. ‘The Presence_Eurydike’ is the gentlest form that Ryberg is willing to present, whereas ‘Trispider’ builds a monumental terror out of a raw pulse. It’s at these moments that you sense the careful composition and orchestral drones, and how keenly Ryberg’s rough modulation is meant to alter states. Displaying varying approaches to form and structure across the record, the music riffs on the brooding atmosphere characteristic of the artist’s collected work by breaking up the havoc on ‘Entangled’ with a series of four microcompositions spliced between each of the tracks. Finely textured and rendered in detail they give a glimpse of Ryberg’s capacity for mesmerising sound design – or to put it another way, they give a sense of what’s barely contained by the rhythmic works. This is an expansive and hard hitting rumination on the more caustic, atonal end of the Techno genre – a truly dynamic and immersive listening experience.

Argentinian producer Sebastian Lopez a.k.a. Flug has just finished his work on his first full-length album. The longplayer will be entitled ‘In Safe Hiding’ and will be released on the German techno imprint Nachtstrom Schallplatten on limited coloured double-vinyl, digipack-cd and digital format. The release-date is set for the 25th of April 2016.
On ‘In Safe Hiding’ Flug, who already released on respected labels such as Soma, CLR, Sleaze and various others in the past, is showing a new and much more experimental side of himself. The album is a highly diverse journey through minimalistic soundscapes, in which warm, melancholic synth leads meet well-balanced, minimalistic techno and ambient grooves.

Some of the tunes are aimed for the dancefloor, but in its entirety ‘In Safe Hiding’ is the perfect piece of music to put in your home sound system, sit back on your easy chair and simply enjoy the beauty of its composition.

On the B side, “Cosita” - a hard-hitting Detroit-inspired dub techno composition that treks into 90s territory. Blacksea Não Maya’s DJ Kolt serves pure kuduro hoof and wiggle on his penultimate 12” with Lisbon’s Príncipe powerhouse.

Previously heard on jams with DJ Noronho and DJ Perigoso in 2015, DJ Kolt recently signalled his intent to retire from the kuduro game, but not until he’s dropped two final 12”s on the deadly Príncipe. ‘Verdadeciro’ features four swingeing variants toggling the pressure gauge between sub-loaded and breezy canter, galloping badness, and a lethal, UKF-style winner that’s bound for summer destruction.

Vibes steadily escalate in intensity from the pendulous, scything drums and bloozy string motif tucked into bolshy motion on ‘Fiqexpert’, to the big room-sweeping rave flares and powerful slosh of ‘vuguvuguu’, to dial in wickedly discordant bleeps and see-sawing leads with a wide-eyed UK ’91 gnash and surprisingly moody finish on ‘bateste’, then utterly finishing us off with the laser-guided hardcore pressure of ‘Shaman’, complete with diva stabs and fanfares synched to subbass in a way recalling Pinch’s post-UKF productions, but with bags of extra wiggle room.

The third part of our Honoris Tribute series is this time dedicated to the legendary British band Bauhaus! Pioneers of post-punk and the goth-wave despite themselves. Haunted by the tutelary shadow of David Bowie and Brian Eno, truly post-punk with a touch of glam, lovers of German expressionism and European symbolism, the sound of Bauhaus knew how to combine dub basses, and acid guitars, sepulchral voices and hypnotic rhythms. Zopelar arrives on Tartelet with Charme - an album of effervescent machine funk harking back to a golden era of Brazilian party music, releasing October 21st.

The era of interest for Sao Paulo’s Pedro Zopelar begins in the 1980s in Rio de Janeiro, when a particular phenomenon caught on at suburban parties which became known as Charme. “Charme was like a mix of slow boogie, RnB and new jack swing,” explains Zopelar. “DJ Corello started calling ‘charme’ the moment of the party when he played slow grooves and felt that the people started dancing differently, with sexier synchronized moves. Some years later, charme evolved from an awaited moment of a night to a whole movement of parties just playing that kind of music. On this record I tried to make something that brings this emotional feeling to my music in a modern way.”

Much like the original genre-not-genre he drew inspiration from, Zopelar’s approach across his latest LP spans different moods and tempos. There’s blissful, sultry mystery lingering around ‘Clara’ and ‘Do You Feel?’ while Osagie lends some chops to the exquisite, Rompler-powered synth funk of ‘Chain Net’. The lead singles ‘Shibuya’, ‘Charme’ and ‘Passado’ all tap into varying shades of deep house, from slinky City Pop-tinted loungers to peak-time dance pop and Larry Heard-influenced flavours, with the constant being Zopelar’s immaculate production and the unbridled warmth of his compositions.

Continuing the Latin-rooted theme of the album, the artworkconception of Charme was realized by multidisciplinary artist and curator Ode, showcasing a popular style of street paintings made by anonymous artists throughout Latin America. It’s not about graffiti-culture but a popular solution utilized by small restaurants, bars and other establishments to use their own walls for commercial purposes, hiring artists to paint food and drink menus or other information about their products.

With an emotional sincerity stemming from his move to reconnect with the Brazilian dimension of his creative background, Charme arrives as Zopelar’s heartfelt celebration of life and music, of sentimental moments shared and good times enjoyed.
