“Gli Intoccabili” (The Untouchables) is a particular semi-unknown movie that belongs to a very crowded underground panorama made of international productions realized between the '60's and the '70's. Some few lucky ones immediately became 'instant classics', while many others remained in some dusty closed drawer for years, just to be rediscovered lately and being considered a cult. To this second category belongs this film directed by Giuliano Montaldo in the US and screened for the first time on April 1969. The cast is stellar, with a newborn Peter 'Lieutenant Columbo' Falk, John Cassavetes (who had just worked on Rosemary's Baby), Gena Rowlands and Florinda Bolkan as the main characters. The music is written by the omnipresent Ennio Morricone, who fluently moves from the western genre to the police/thriller one, making this one of his most varied works. As in the western field, we find here also one sung track about the main character, "La ballata di Hank McCain", while the rest of the soundtrack toggles between symphonic/epic moments and tensive/dissonant ones, going through more mellow and lounge atmospheres. These remarks make “Gli Intoccabili” an album that can be listened to in it's entirety without necessarily being linked to the images of the movie. One of many hidden gems by Morricone.

"L'Ultimo Treno della Notte" (Last Stop on the Night Train) is a 1975 thriller film directed by Aldo Lado, one of the most violent movies ever produced in Italy in the '70s (and beyond) that actually shows, even in the crudest scenes, for same admission of the director, a harsh attack against the bourgeois society and its powerful rich people. Despite the limited budget, the friendship between Aldo Lado and composer Ennio Morricone made this collaboration possible; nonetheless, only a 45rpm 7" was released at the time, containing the songs "Coincidenze" and a 'medley' version of the theme track with the train wheels rattling on the tracks in the background, while the song "A Flower's All You Need", sung by Demis Roussos of Aphrodite's Child, was included in a rare Japanese single. All these tracks can be found in this exclusive edition of Morricone's soundtrack, together with the various other versions of the film's main theme, characterized by a middle section filled with tension, pronounced rhythmic patterns and echoes of the legendary theme of “Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion". The notes of "Coincidenze" are just as worthy of the best Italian police movies, while the "Solitudine" theme adds sadness and melancholy notes to the mix. Franco De Gemini's harmonica also reminds us that this kind of films are nothing else than westerns set in modern times and contexts. Yet another exceptional work by the Maestro, released for the first time as a yellow Colored Vinyl enclosed in a gatefold cover!

Ennio Morricone has composed a very "rural" score with the sounds, that represent the life of the protagonist. Although integrated within modern society, the soul of this man is always directed to his past, to his land, to the teachings of his father which he could never leave behind. This adherence to the homeland is expressed through deliberately wild and almost enraged vocal performances of Edda Dell'Orso. Ennio Morricone has composed music which reflects the bucolic atmosphere of this tale through a series of archaically flavoured themes played by instruments like recorder and mandolin. Among the recurrent themes there are a mysterious motif, dramatic music for dissonant strings and a lounge theme with the typical Morricone sound. The main theme is reprised for recorder and guitar and there is Baroque music for the puppet theater played by woodwinds and percussions. Our LP contains two bonus tracks, unreleased alternate takes of the original album versions which will surely be quite attractive for fans and scholars of the music of Ennio Morricone. Ennio Morricone wrote a monothematic score including several orchestral variations of the main theme, a brilliant and very romantic motif with Lounge flavour, vocalised by I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. Introduced first in “Titoli di Testa” and reprised with several variations throughout the score: a Classic style version with harpsichord, organ and mandolin, a slow and dreamy one with the voice of Edda and also including the choir I Cantori, a samba version, a beat-flavoured mysterious version, another version once again with the splendid magical voice of Edda and a slower variation with the whistle of Alessandro Alessandroni. The style of Ennio Morricone strongly recognizable in a second theme, very romantic and lounge, featuring a keyboard used by the author, frequently also in other scores like “Giu la testa”. A classic-style minuet with the opera vocalism of Edda enriches the score. The third theme is a brilliant orchestral samba introduced by the type machine and developed by the whole orchestra and then reprised with the performance of the wonderful Cantori Moderni. Our LP also contains three superb “shake” dancefloor music themes that bring us the unforgettable Beat atmospheres of those days’ discoteques.

Following nearly two years of global touring in support of their adventurous and acclaimed album, The Wilderness (2016), Explosions In The Sky paused on the future to reflect on the past. Celebrating their 20th year as a band with a pair of remastered reissues of early beloved classics - How Strange, Innocence (2000) and The Rescue (2005) - they embarked on a memorable series of anniversary concerts in 2019. It was around then that Explosions In The Sky was approached to craft the score to a new documentary about a place with which, as native Texans, they were very familiar: Big Bend National Park. That documentary, Big Bend: The Wild Frontier of Texas, premiered on PBS in the United States as well as on a variety of networks in other countries in early 2021. The hour-long film intimately follows the lives of native animals amid expansive aerial views of the iconic desert landscape that makes up one of the grandest natural wonders in the world. The band set these sights to an inspired, melodic, and meaningful blend of acoustic guitar, slide guitar, strings, piano, bells, and drums that feels as alive and diverse - and vast and lonely -as the place it depicts. Big Bend (An Original Soundtrack for Public Television) takes that mesmerizing score and recontextualizes it as a standalone album. Those brief cues have been expanded and transformed into a thoughtful, gorgeous full-length album that recalls some of the band's most magical and memorable moments from their storied history. Big Bend: The Wild Frontier of Texas is a film that explores the past and present of the vast, complicated landscape that still holds countless mysteries yet to be uncovered. After 2 years of absence from our catalogue we are glad to reveal we are close to release a new edition of Fabio Frizzi’s fans most beloved horror score, Zombi 2, with the American title of Zombie Flesh Eaters, a project we are developing since five years! Since ever paired with Un gatto nel cervello, now finally alone in a version that is gifted with unreleased material which was recorded in a tape found in an old Ribot archive. One of the holy grails in our catalogue, since ever bitterly loved, because of its shortness: even if the older version featured a good portion of the score, it was largely incomplete. With the addition of the material transferred from this extra tape, and with the song There’s no matter, which can be heard at the beginning of the movie, when the two protagonists investigate the sequestered ship, we can attest this is the definitive edition of this outstanding soundtrack which marks a significant style evolution of the Maestro, aside the growth of his artistic relationship with Lucio Fulci. In this edition we offer the score on CD in a deluxe hardpaper box with the insane artwork by Graham Humphreys, both on the box and on the 40 pages book inside, slim jewelcase with a maxi inlay featuring the iconic photographic poster of the time and a crazy black and white artwork by Alexandros Pyromallis. Following our releases of Bianco Rosso e Verdone and Sono pazzo di Iris Blond OSTs, we are glad to announce a new tribute to the music for the great cinema of Carlo Verdone with the release on vinyl of the original motion picture soundtrack of Acqua e sapone, composed by Maestro Fabio Liberatori, the artist who features the greatest number of collaborations with the Roman director. Shot in 1983 it's the story of Rolando Ferrazza (Verdone) who, stolen the identity of Father Spinelli, finds a job as private teacher for Sandy Wash (Natasha Hovey), a young teen-ager model with whom he will soon fall in love. The story will come to a bitter-sweet conclusion, in the typical style of its director, for sure more bitter than sweet, with the unavoidable separation of the two lovers and the return to normal life, now permanently marked by the experience. A movie that, like many others shot by Verdone, was a landmark of an era, portrayed through the humanity of it protagonists, their forbidden dreams, great delusions and tragic daily life, everything narrated through a biting poetic style and delicate irony in a guise that made Verdone's cinema a unique genre. The wonderful music by Fabio Liberatori, previously partially available through a compilation dedicated to his soundtracks, now finally released for the first time in a complete edition dedicated to this score with a great electronic frame, a sound that the musician skillfully masters chiseling a series of moods throughout the story. A soundtrack which deserved since too many time a full edition, at the dawn of its 40th year of age, now available in this deluxe release, featuring a 180 grams colored vinyl with the wonderful original artwork by Renato Casaro on the cover, with the two protagonists' faces. This release has been possible through the collaboration with Cecchi Gori which gave access to Maestro Fabio Liberatori' score, remastered under his supervision by Gianrico La Rosa, and with Sony Music Italy which authorized us to add STADIO's songs, "Acqua e Sapone" and "C'é", which could not be missing from a tribute to this movie. Quartet Records was proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of J.A. Bayona’s horror cult-classic The Orphanage in 2017 with a newly recorded, complete edition of the score composed by Fernando Velázquez , The Orphanage was the first collaboration between director and composer, a partnership that has continued in such modern classics as The Impossible and A Monster Calls. Now this new recording is available in an exclusive, limited and numbered collectors’ vinyl release.

It may seem unusual that a barely ten-year-old score is being re-recorded, but giving The Orphanage a second chance to shine is an undertaking of which Quartet Records is especially proud. This tenth-anniversary edition includes every note Fernando Velázquez wrote for the film in its original conception to give fans a bold, new take on a modern classic. The original soundtrack album was negotiated and signed off before the recordings were made, and while Fernando wasn’t quite satisfied with the performance, the album had to be released nonetheless. It was a problematic recording, without much possibility of correcting mistakes (do not forget that The Orphanage was a low-budget film). When the possibility of expanding the original 47-minute-long program was being discussed in early 2017, a review of the original multi-track recordings revealed that time hasn’t been kind to Velázquez’s first major score, so a new plan was formulated. The composer took it upon himself to revisit the project by doing a brand-new recording with The Basque National Orchestra, the same ensemble he used for A Monster Calls, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Submergence and his “Concert Suites” album. By using one of his favorite orchestras and his usual recording engineer, Marc Blanes, whom he couldn’t use on his seminal score, Quartet Records and Fernando Velazquez present the same music he wrote a decade ago (including previously unrecorded alternates), using the know-how and skills he has gained in the past 10 years to bring fans a new recording of which we can all be proud.

This exclusive, 2-lp edition has been remastered for vinyl by Chris Malone, and includes newly commissioned artwork by PosterSpy & Karl Fitzgerald. The record comes in a deluxe gatefold package that includes statements from Fernando Velázquez and director J.A. Bayona. This is a collectable, must-have edition for all Velázquez, Bayona or horror movies fans!

Transversales Disques presents for the first time on LP, François de Roubaix’s full score for the French TV series Les Secrets de la Mer Rouge, an adaptation of the epic travel, through the Middle East, of the famous writer and explorer Henri de Monfreid. This album is a collection of the original (1967) themes and those recorded later in 1975 when the TV series was continued. In the 1967 soundtrack, de Roubaix uses various flutes, marine conches, and for underwater views, unexpected instruments such as a celesta or a crystal xylophone. By 1975, electronic technology had dramatically developed and this evolution is clearly apparent when one listens to the recordings of the two seasons. For the later 1975 series, de Roubaix composed a new music score, mixing old and new sounds, a great combination of EMS Vcs3 synthesizer subtly mixed with acoustic instruments. For François de Roubaix, there was never a border between fiction, life and music, and writing music for Les secrets de la Mer Rouge was an extension of his love of the open sea.

Digitmovies is releasing the LP and CD of the OST from the film “Blackie the Pirate” (original title: “Il Corsaro Nero”). Blackie the Pirate is a fictional character created by the Italian writer Emilio Salgari. The character has appeared in various films throughout the years. The composer Gino Peguri (author of soundtracks for movies like “Bloody Pit of Horror," "Seven Magnificent Pistols", "A Woman on Fire", "Psychopath," "Code Name, Red Roses") wrote an orchestral score for "Blackie the Pirate" which was released in 1971 on a rare LP from RCA (SP 8035) and a rare single Cormorano (ZC 50180). For this CD re-release we were able to find the stereo master tapes from the original album and the complete master tapes from the original recording sessions which include both stereo and mono mixes. In addition to the 12 stereo tracks on the album, we have added nine alternate tracks in stereo and five alternate tracks in mono. This OST is dominated by the fun pop-sounding song in the opening credits called "Orza qui poggia lì," performed by Paolo Ferrara and accompanied by the chorus of Nora Orlandi. For the LP version we brought back the 1971 LP with the addition of the English version of "Orza qui poggia lì” as well as the film version of the track "In the Caribbean" and two alternative versions on side B. Available on CD or LP+CD limited editions of 300 copies.

2021 saw the release of 'The Globeflower Masters Vol.1'. An album released on Mr Bongo and born from the fruitful collaboration between Glenn Fallows (The Impellers / Andres y Xavi) and Mark Treffel (Blue States / The Soul Steppers).

Taking inspiration from classic 60s and 70s soundtrack and cinematic composers such as Axelrod, Morricone, Gainsbourg, Jean-Claude Vannier and Piero Umiliani, the album was very well received upon its release and struck a chord with the scene’s connoisseurs.

From the top of the Hobgoblin’s Hat and the bottom of Snufkin’s satchel, original Moomin’s composer Graeme Miller (The Carrier Frequency) kindly shares this patchwork selection of spellbinding sound poems and percussive peons made using the very same selection of ocarinas, kalimbas, miniature squeak boxes, Waspy synths, cornflake box shakers and a seemingly endless array of talent and lo-fi home studio trickery. Regarded as one of the most enigmatic, beguiling and haunting imported children’s programmes to ever grace UK TV screens, The Moomins was one of the first-ever commissions by Anne Wood (The Teletubbies) who ingeniously replaced the original Polish/ Austrian/Finnish soundtrack with homemade music experiments by unknown post-punk theatre students Graeme Miller and Steve Shill (aka The Commies From Mars) who after the screening of two unforgettable series in 1983 and 1985 were left in eager anticipation of rescoring further Moomin adventures with new melodies, arrangements and sound designs which then lingered in the ether waiting until the Groke awoke and Snorkmaiden sang once more. With future felt adventures screened exclusively in Poland and Germany for many years (often as feature films) these unheard recordings are the only genuine musical sequel to the bizarre UK version of The Moomins and stand as important inclusions the Graeme Miller’s own portfolio of theatrical theme music and sound installations as part of The Impact Theatre Cooperative including collaborations with artists and writers such as Russell Hoban. Witnessed in fragmented form during a short run of incredible rare live screenings at The Barbican Theatre and various film festival this record marks the first time this music has been heard in its original full-length form, free from sound effects, dialogue and whimpers of euphoric joy and nostalgia from those who have continued to crave the company of our Moomintrolls and their mysterious music over the last five decades.

The discography of the phantom Gruppo Sound exceeds over thirty titles published in an undefined time frame between the Eighties and the Nineties. However, there is very little information about this curious pseudonym. it is possible to find a library music album by Gruppo Sound inside the Canopo, Deneb, Flower, Monosound Records and Teams catalogues, all managed by Flipper Music publishing group, but both the creators and the musicians have never been the same. Gruppo Sound is only a collective name, maybe to identify a certain number of 'new' productions characterized by an electronic background And, not by chance, the author of “New York City” is a single artist, the multi-instrumentalist Gabriele Ducros. Son of the prolific composer Remigio Ducros, he first followed his footsteps in the field of music libraries and soundtracks and then become the author of many tracks for television commercials of a certain relevance, winning some international awards. “Some of these tracks may have been associated with a pornographic film. Others were, however, made as brief comments for a theatrical show, perhaps never made”, remembers Gabriele Ducros. What unites the thirteen pieces is the same musical language, which derives from a widespread funk and jazz matrix. Both genres are thus declined through a different approach and taste, in line with the fusion trends of the time, when the early synthesizers were used by few artists. A handful of electric guitar notes for a 'urban' mood, the acoustic ones from a dreamy morning awakening. Electronic keyboards to arouse a sense of nostalgia in the listener, while flute and saxophone always punctuate different atmospheres. A computer melody, a theme for children and a sophisticated ode to the fusion sound of the Big Apple, perhaps true source of ispiration of the work. “New York City” is not a concept album, but one of the best cross-sections of Gabriele Ducros' great creativity.
