Clark says “I was going to just include the cues from the film, but got far too into recording new stuff that fitted the tone and emotion of the film. Favourite tracks: Tangent Cloak, Bleeding Building and Sensual Dismay. Little peaches that popped out in one breezy take. It’s got a really specific, colour/tone this record. It’s drenched in muted joy/dark euphoria. It sounds like Sensual Dismay but can’t really call it that, it’s the soundtrack for a film called In Camera.

Full of pointed notes about an industry rife with prejudice and hypocrisy, In Camera deploys elements of surrealism and fantasy to trace how its young British-Asian protagonist’s sense of self is affected by the tokenism of a world he hopes to conquer. Candid and acidly funny, with an unsettling eye for the warped and bizarre, it’s a playful, stylish satire not just of showbiz but also the myriad absurdities of modern life, with a complex, supple central performance from rising star Nabhaan Rizwan.

Colman also serves as an executive producer on the film. The film follows Leda (Colman) who is on a solo-vacation at the seaside and becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. When a small, seemingly meaningless event occurs, Leda is overwhelmed by memories of the difficult, unconventional choices she made as a mother and their consequences for herself and her family. The seemingly serene tale of a woman’s pleasant rediscovery of herself soon becomes the story of a ferocious confrontation with an unsettled past. The Lost Daughter premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where Gyllenhaal won the Golden Osella Award for Best Screenplay. At its opening night world premiere, the movie received a four-minute standing ovation from Venice Film Festival attendees. The film also received three nominations at the 94th Academy Awards for Best Actress (Colman), Best Supporting Actress (Buckley), and Best Adapted Screenplay. The score is composed by Dickon Hinchliffe, founding and former member of Tindersticks. Dickon’s unique style of composition and arrangements developed from his classical study of the violin and song writing and recording in bands. The Lost Daughter is available as a limited “Peal it like a snake, don’t let it break” edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange marbled vinyl. "L'Ultimo Treno della Notte" (Last Stop on the Night Train) is a 1975 thriller film directed by Aldo Lado, one of the most violent movies ever produced in Italy in the '70s (and beyond) that actually shows, even in the crudest scenes, for same admission of the director, a harsh attack against the bourgeois society and its powerful rich people. Despite the limited budget, the friendship between Aldo Lado and composer Ennio Morricone made this collaboration possible; nonetheless, only a 45rpm 7" was released at the time, containing the songs "Coincidenze" and a 'medley' version of the theme track with the train wheels rattling on the tracks in the background, while the song "A Flower's All You Need", sung by Demis Roussos of Aphrodite's Child, was included in a rare Japanese single. All these tracks can be found in this exclusive edition of Morricone's soundtrack, together with the various other versions of the film's main theme, characterized by a middle section filled with tension, pronounced rhythmic patterns and echoes of the legendary theme of “Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion". The notes of "Coincidenze" are just as worthy of the best Italian police movies, while the "Solitudine" theme adds sadness and melancholy notes to the mix. Franco De Gemini's harmonica also reminds us that this kind of films are nothing else than westerns set in modern times and contexts. Yet another exceptional work by the Maestro, released for the first time as a yellow Colored Vinyl enclosed in a gatefold cover!

The surreal and effective film - a true gem of British Gothic fantasy horror - has an equally atmospheric, breathtakingly beautiful, surreal and unsettling soundtrack, scored by George Fenton. The film itself, directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Breakfast On Pluto), and based on the screenplay by Angela Carter and Neil Jordan, is a modern allegorical adaptation of the classic Grimm fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, symbolising sexual awakening, duality and liberation. To a large extent the scoring in this area is conventional, perhaps a little impressionistic and hopefully reflects a curious but endearing world. I wanted to use a mixture of electronics and 'live' instruments, and after some experimenting, arrived at a line-up of three bass flutes, Pan Pipes, violins, one, two or three solo double basses, percussion and Synclavier II synthesizer" (George Fenton, 1984). First ever vinyl edition of "Zeder" soundtrack, one of the best Italian thriller/horror movies ever!

The music composer is Riz Ortolani ("Mondo Cane" and "Cannibal Holocaust" stand out among his many works), here collaborating with director Pupi Avati for the second time: this soundtrack expertly blends electronic and symphonic music, the latter here consisting mainly of an orchestral string section often repetitive, hypnotic and insistent, that reflects the arrogance of the protagonist in continuing his research, no matter what the consequences could be. There is no shortage of funk-filled brighter themes and requiems, suspended songs full of tension and sudden vibe changes, melancholic melodies and eerie soundscapes.

"Zeder" is today a cult movie, released in theaters in 1983, at a time when hardly anyone dared to shoot anything that had to do with zombies. Pupi Avati went against the tide then, giving life to an atmospheric horror film set in a sunny Italian Romagna Riviera - a typical destination for cheerful summer holidays - which tells the discovery of ancient experiments by researcher Paolo Zeder on a special 'K terrain' that allow those buried there to return from beyond. Avati's stylistic approach, in which tension and fear arise from simply narrated situations instead of full-blooded scenes with a strong visual impact, finds here a perfect match with Maestro Riz Ortolani's score.

Lesbo" is a 1969 erotic film directed by Edoardo Mulargia, his only experiment in this genre within a filmography mostly focused on Western films and sentimental/romantic comedies. Calling "Lesbo" an underground film is practically an understatement, as no official home video releases of this movie seem to exist; its soundtrack instead has luckily survived to the present day and, given the caliber of its two composers, it could only be a terrific work.

The friendship between Francesco De Masi and Alessandro Alessandroni is even more dated than the artistic partnership that was later born between the most famous spaghetti western whistle and Morricone, and "Lesbo" is 'only' one of the various collaborations between these two composers. Introduced as usual by a sensual theme sung by a seducing female voice, this warm and Mediterranean-flavoured soundtrack has numerous variations with a romantic/symphonic, lounge, even jazz taste, with some typically 'Morriconian' moments of tension too.

An extremely varied work, therefore, of which in 1969 - the year the film was released in theaters - only eight tracks were published on the single side of an LP containing, in addition to the soundtrack of "Lesbo", also that of "L'amore questo sconosciuto" on side B. Recently reissued with the addition of numerous bonus tracks, it is here in its full version - 24 tracks! - on vinyl for the first time ever.

"Mediterraneo" is a film directed by Gabriele Salvatores, set during the Second World War on the Greek island of Castelrosso, a few kilometers from the Turkish coasts. In this place, only apparently uninhabited, some Italian soldiers arrive on a mission; they will soon find themselves to be completely isolated, forced to wait for any communication signs from the outside world and to integrate with the local population.

When it came out in theaters in 1991, “Mediterraneo” immediately gained wide acclaim and recognition (David di Donatello and Nastro d'Argento for best film, Academy Award for best foreign film), a success also significantly determined by the soundtrack written by Giancarlo Bigazzi and Marco Falagiani, record producers and composers of a large series of Italian music famous songs and themes: the essence of this movie score is fully enclosed in the five notes of the main theme, both simple and evocative, immersed in a context of ethnic feel and Arabic/Oriental flavours. Except for some occasional modern sounds, the music of “Mediterraneo” is almost entirely produced by ‘popular’ and unconventional acoustic instruments: santouri, bouzouki, gavala, bagpipe, zurna, toubeleki, davul, rabeca and lyre.

The deep work of music research, composition and arrangement by the Bigazzi/Falagiani duo earned them the 1991 Globo d’oro Award. A soundtrack that is still memorable today, reissued exclusively by AMS Records on clear blue vinyl!

The soundtrack to Puzzle is composed by A Winged Victory for the
Sullen member Dustin O’Halloran. He says about his recordings: “I
wanted the score to have a minimal sound in order to leave space
for the performances of the actors, so I decided on a chamber sound
consisting of piano, string quartet, harp and woodwinds.” For the last
track “Horizons” he contacted his friend Ane Brun, who created beautiful
melodies and words that perfectly captured the feelings of the character
Agnes.
Dustin O’Halloran released his first two albums, entitled Piano Solos
and Piano Solos 2 in 2004 and 2006. Later on he scored multiple
soundtracks, including Marie Antoinette, Lion and The Beauty Inside.

The first sexual experiences of a teenager with older women at the end of the war in Disobedi- Ence (1981) are accompanied by piano, strings and oboe. “Desperate love theme” from Making Love (2000) is a very nostalgic classic tune for violin and orchestra. “Per le antica scale (Preludio)” from Down THE Ancient Stairs (1975) is a captivating, slow and sensual, love tune for piano and orchestra with a predominant flute solo. “Beata and Joe” from THE Star Maker (1995) a sentimental theme for the two protagonists performed by an orchestra with the intervention of a classical guitar in the second part. The crystal voice of soprano Edda Dell’Orso appears very frequently in Ennio Mor- ricone’s soundtracks as in the case of THE Good Thief (1980), THE Master AND Margarita (1972), What Have YOU Done TO Solange? (1972), Orient Express (1979).

In his long and successful career Ennio Morricone composed many dance songs as it was in fashion in the late sixties and early seventies. Themes that were usually not directly connected with the subjects of the soundtrack, but which were played in disco clubs, on jukeboxes, turntables and on the radio. This collection contains a selection of very cool pieces such as the brilliant main theme from Grand Slam (1967), the shake rock (opening credits) from Dario Argento’s classic Four Flies ON Grey Velvet (1971), the danceable from the noir film Violent City (1970), the beat version of the opening credits of “Pioggia sul tuo viso” by The Sorrows, from HOW I Learned TO Love Women (1966), “Per Vittorio (Bossa)” elegant bossa nova with flute and percussions from THE Success (1963), the tribal shake from I Cantori Moderni which winks at the Dies Irae from Garden OF Delights (1967), “Scuola di ballo al sole” a wild surf piece from THE Hawks AND THE Sparrows (1966), the supreme bossa nova from ONE Night AT Dinner (1969) with the super iconic voice of Edda Dell’Orso, the shake music of “Ostinazione al limone” from What Have YOU Done TO Solange? The studies with Goffredo Petrassi and the association with Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza let the Avant-garde playing an important role in the career of Ennio Morricone, who wrote many contemporary pieces for himself, but then the author composed soundtracks where dissonance played a major role. For the Italian edition of the film Space: 1999 (1975), the cult British TV series, he composed a very neurotic Jazz with muted horns. Also for the science-fiction film THE Humanoid (1979) Ennio Morricone created hallucinating strings scores mixed with electronic effects. For Sacco E Vanzetti (1971) an electronic score by Walter Bianchi evokes all the drama of the undeserved death sentence of the two protagonists. Experimental music of great impact in the film and off the screen for famous thrillers such as THE Death Dealer (1974), Short Night OF Glass Dolls (1971). Avant-garde music has always been present in Elio Petri’s films set to music by Morricone such as Property IS NO Longer A Theft (1973). Avant-garde music in the noir cinema of Violent City (1970) and A Pure Formal- ITY (1994) and in auteur films such as Garden OF Delights (1967) and Sarah’s Last MAN (1972).

Ennio Morricone is known throughout the world for the Italian Western genre, but most of all for his famous soundtracks for Sergio Leone’s masterpieces which have entered into popular culture on an international level, and here represented by iconic themes such as A Fistful OF Dollars (1964), FOR A FEW Dollars More (1965), Once Upon A Time IN THE

West (1968), A Fistful OF Dynamite (1971) with extraordinary soloists such as the coro dei cantori Moderni di ales- sandroni, the whistle of Alessandro Alessandroni, the harmonica of Franco De Gemini, and Edda Dell’Orso’s soprano voice. For the Westerns starring the legendary Giuliano Gemma – A Pistol FOR Ringo and THE Return OF Ringo – both directed by Duccio Tessari, he wrote the songs “Angel Face” (with lyrics by Gino Paoli) and “The Return of Ringo” respectively performed by Maurizio Graf with pop music arrangements that were popular at the time. With PistolS Don’t Argue (1964) Morricone experiments with a still undefined pre-Leone sound, Death Rides A Horse (1967) presents a main theme for guitars ostinatos, exotic flutes and choir. For Life IS Tough, EH Providence? Ennio Morricone creates a theme that mixes religious elements for a female choir with modern arrangements. And A Fist Goes West (1981) a late Western in which the composer himself interprets the Indian’s screams.

Assignment K (with lots of pencil scribbles everywhere). The Strange Affair (with lots of pen scribbles everywhere).

As usual with Basil tapes / things there is little else to go on, no tracklist, no list of musicians, no singer names, no dates or anything. I have actually tried to establish the name of the singer on the song from Side One (we have called it “Love Is To Walk Away “ as it is unnamed) but having played it to a handful of knowledgeable collectors and enthusiasts who I would count as experts in this field, no one has a clue who it might be. If you think you know please get in touch. We know who it isn’t.

We can tell you that Assignment K dates from 1968, was a film about a toy maker who has a double life as an international spy. It was directed by Val Guest, who’d just finished trying to rescue the cinematic hotchpotch that was Casino Royale - he had been brought in by the Bond producers after Peter Sellers had walked off the movie. We imagine Assignment K may have been a slightly less stressful few months of shooting. As for the Kirchin score that we have here, we can tell you very little indeed, apart from the fact that the bass player was Ron Prentice (an ex blacksmith turned musician and craftsman) who worked on several Bond scores, but we know little else. And we only know this because it says so in the academic tome “Jazz On The Screen” by David Meeker.

The Strange Affair is also from 1968, and was not only controversial but also a reasonably unsuccessful movie. Directed by David Greene who also directed, amongst other films, I Start Counting and the quite brilliant Sebastian. In this rather grubby flick a policeman called Peter Strange (played by Michael York) falls for an underage girl (played by Susan George), finds himself compromised by a pair of pornographers and gets lured into an errand for a smack gang. We can tell you little else because I have no more information about it all.

But we do know that this music has all the classic Kirchin mid-period sonic hallmarks that have always set him apart.

Philip Glass' score was conducted by Nick Ingman, with Michael Reisman on piano and the Lyric Quartet, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios and Air Studios, London. The score was a key element in this acclaimed triptych of dramatic tales.
