Given that Webby is usually touring for 1/3 of the year, the pandemic allowed him an opportunity to try new, more experimental sounds while sharpening his traditional lyrical skill set even more acutely in the studio. 2020 was taxing on everyone’s headspace, but in this case it seems to have at least made for some good music.

The “The Balancing Act” album title is inspired by the way Statik balances his responsibilities as a father, as an artist, as a producer and as a DJ. To execute his vision for the album cover, Statik enlisted famed designers Dom Dirtee and Tristan Eaton, whose work can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art's (MoMA) and has been featured across the world from Paris to Shanghai.

The album follows Statik’s collaborative album with Bun B in April 2019, when they famously teamed up to release TrillStatik – a joint album that was created entirely from scratch during an 11-hour livestream on YouTube. Prior to that release, Statik released a 2017 solo artist album, 8, which featured heavyweights like Run the Jewels, G-Eazy, Wiz Khalifa, Action Bronson, Wale, The LOX and Raekwon, among many others.

Earlier this year, XXL named Statik Selektah as one of the 48 Greatest Hip-Hop DJs of All-Time. As a producer, he’s known for his work on a slew of standout songs, including J. Cole and Joey Bada$$’s “Legendary” and Eminem’s collaboration with Big Sean, Royce da 5’9”, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf and Trick-Trick on “Detroit vs. Everybody.”

On a side note it may be mentioned that in mathematics, the expression “0.999..” is considered being identical to 1. Meditating over that very fact may tell you a lot about our current reality.

SWE is back with Seattle crew Crooked Path's previously unreleased debut album from 1992! Check out Funk Daddy's breakdown on the group's history.

Funk Daddy: "Crooked Path consists of JaySkee, Dee-Lyrious, and DJ Funk Daddy (then known as Greg B). JaySkee was the mastermind as he was always putting things together and making things happen. Dee-Lyrious was a producer, DJ, and Rapper who was the more lyrical one of the group with a gangsta voice. Funk Daddy (Greg B) was the producer, battle DJ, and vocalist on some of the tracks as well.

"All 3 of us went to the University Of Washington where we all met. JaySkee playing football, Dee-Lyrious playing basketball and Funk Daddy DJing all the college parties. JaySkee brought everyone together and we all meshed naturally."

In 1992 Crooked Path recorded and completed "After Dark" of which only a few promo tapes were pressed. Two of the album's tracks later appeared on Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Seattle... The Dark Side" compilation album in 1993.

The CD will be limited to 250 copies only! We revamped the original tape artwork and the tracklist will feature some "Fun Facts" provided by Funk Daddy.

Golczewski’s deft compositions embrace the story’s rich dynamic but never try to overstep it.

As we experience the trials of the Sacchetti couple, who’ve moved into an old farmhouse in an inhospitable New England town, Golczewski treats us to a host of equally delicate and indelicate passages. Dry, creaky strings, an ominous electronic hum, and the searing burn of the synths all leave an indelible mark with each suspended breath of foreboding and every histrionic blaze. Phoenix-based Slow Moses’ dreamy “Gas Station” and hallucinogenic “Teenage Sun” are bruised-and-battered songs that add a whimsical counterpoint to the beautifully terrifying tapestries that Golczewski weaves. New York-based Kleen Kut’s rare “Running Out of Time” is a dark, disembodied rocker with phantasmal melodies unfurling from ancient truths. It carries propulsive, raw energy that codifies the sentiments of the film into a guitar-driven, minor-key strut of otherworldly enchantment. Even after the last note fades, we are still here for another spin.

Brooklyn-based rapper Half-A-Mill climbed his way up from the underground in the late ‘90s with an initial breakthrough on 1997’s one and only album by The Firm, the supergroup featuring Nas, AZ, Nature and Foxy Brown, alongside producers Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.

After this high-profile appearance, Half-a-Mill then started setting the stage for the release of his debut album “Milíon” with the single ”Thug Ones" which featured Noreaga, Kool G Rap, and Musolini. “Milíon” became an underground classic, featuring guest appearances by AZ, Kool G Rap, Musalini, Noreaga, Ali Vegas and Spice 1, with production by Just Blaze, The Neptunes, DJ Scratch, and DJ Ali among others.

Tragedy struck in 2003 when the rapper was shot dead at his home in Brooklyn. Tuff Kong now proudly moves to keep his legacy alive by releasing Milíon on vinyl for the first time ever.

Documa is the multimedia project of longtime Northwest Indiana musician Bobby Markos. Markos began writing and releasing music on his own, using analog production methods at home. The project debuted with a collection of songs called “The Color of Documa.” Around the same time, Documa began performing live, marrying audio and visual aspects to create an almost movie-like experience for audience members. The sounds of Documa are heavily influenced by music from the 60s and 70s, documentary soundtracks, and field recordings. The music incorporates fingerstyle guitar playing, as well as electronic compositions and samples to create ambient productions with country-western cadence. Markos relies on a home studio consisting of old reel-to-reel tape machines, VCRs, and cassette decks to engineer Documa recordings.

To integrate a longtime love of film, he founded Documavision, a production company focused on collaborating with other artists, visualizers, and motion graphics. The visual aesthetic focuses on film equipment and methods of the past as well, often using analog cameras, televisions, and VCRs to produce videos.

To close out 2020, Documa has partnered with Flesh & Bone Records to release a series of EPs, starting with the digital release of the EP “3.” and now a cassette release of "Lo-Fi One Two Seven".

Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio-or as it is sometimes referred to, DLO3-specialize in the lost art of "feel good music." The ingredients of this intoxicating cocktail include a big helping of the 1960s organ jazz stylings of Jimmy Smith and Baby Face Willette; a pinch of the snappy soul strut of Booker T. & The M.G.'s and The Meters; and sprinkles Motown, Stax Records, blues, and cosmic Jimi Hendrix-style guitar. It's a soul-jazz concoction that goes straight to your heart and head makes your body break out in a sweat. The band features organist Delvon Lamarr, a self-taught virtuosic musician, with perfect pitch who taught himself jazz and has effortlessly been able to play a multitude of instruments. On guitar is the dynamo Jimmy James who eases through Steve Cropper-style chanking guitar, volcanic acid-rock freak-out lead playing, and slinky Grant Green style jazz. 50 years ago, Franco and Luciana De Gemini had recently moved to Rome, both looking for their place in the world. He a talented musician, she a beautiful young bride, they lived in a small penthouse with a huge terrace full of flowers and views that spanned Rome, from the dome of St. Peter to the Altar of the Fatherland to the Castelli Romani: over 40 kilometers of the Eternal City. Through his collaborations with many great maestros of the period and his involvement with the orchestras, Franco got to know many people including Fulvio Corradini and Benito Costa (the former an administrator of prestigious record catalogs, the second a trusted friend). In fact, they had already caught wind of a small record label called Beat Records Company, founded on May 12, 1966, but the two had no time to devote to the endeavor so they trusted its administration to Franco De Gemini by actively involving him as a partner. It was on March 23, 1968, that they set foot in that office on Viale Medaglie D'oro. Beat had published 58 tracks, had 16,500 Liras in cash and a tax fine of 140,000 liras for failure to report. That was the day that Franco and Luciana began their adventure, which would last for him until July 20, 2013, and for her until March 3, 2016. It was an Intense fifty years, always with one foot on an airplane, in a smoke-filled recording studio, in front of a Moviola viewing the scrolling images of film or around a table with incredible characters, to talk, create music and art, or simply to enjoy life. That little two-year-old son that was once picked up and held by Franco and Luciana is now a man of 50, a man with whom generations of film and music fans have been able to cultivate their passions, served and revered by the tireless work of this incredible couple. Having reached this important landmark in time, with over half a century of history behind us, we decided to revive five significant favorites from our musical catalog and replicate them in their original format, a tribute to our past and yours. The fifth appointment of this revival is with one of our scores unreleased on vinyl, Alla Ricerca DEL Piacere by Teo Usuelli, a score we love deeply for a movie featuring the divine Barbara Bouchet, a beautiful icon beloved on both sides of the ocean. The music--iconic as well, and among the most appreciated in our catalog--has been included on Beat at Cinecittà albums and used by the Cohen bros., who included Piacere Sequence M36 in The Big Lebowsky. For his 3rd album The Soul Vegetable Orchestra, Ajax Tow is bringing us on a ten tracks sonic adventure, where many inspirations and references collide. We can found the influence of Danger Mouse paying hommage to the late Ennio Morricone (Roma, 2011), a cinematic side of Shawn Lee and Misha Panfilov, from music library à la JeanClaude Vannier to the Band Voilaa, a little glimpse of pimped Ninja tune, a reworked organic Mo’Wax vibe, all mixed up and spiced up with a Tricky style. "All tracks were recorded in the early 90's intended to be released as an introduction to Chicago influences of the Lost dancefloor, and to also launch another side of Cosmic Records, ‘clubtracks’. The release was titled ‘The Message’ as that’s what it was, an unspoken message of the introduction of ‘clubtracks’. "The production concept was minimal and raw, with Chicago influences, the tracks were recorded using an Atari 1040, Roland 808 and Jd800 Synthesizer, non structured, recorded live to DAT. Edits 1 & 2 were recorded late 92/3 and never intended to be released as these were produced for my Dj sets. But they created a lot of interest when played, and many Dj’s wanted the edits released for their use. Transversales Disques presents for the first time on LP, François de Roubaix’s full score for the French TV series Les Secrets de la Mer Rouge, an adaptation of the epic travel, through the Middle East, of the famous writer and explorer Henri de Monfreid. This album is a collection of the original (1967) themes and those recorded later in 1975 when the TV series was continued. In the 1967 soundtrack, de Roubaix uses various flutes, marine conches, and for underwater views, unexpected instruments such as a celesta or a crystal xylophone. By 1975, electronic technology had dramatically developed and this evolution is clearly apparent when one listens to the recordings of the two seasons. For the later 1975 series, de Roubaix composed a new music score, mixing old and new sounds, a great combination of EMS Vcs3 synthesizer subtly mixed with acoustic instruments. For François de Roubaix, there was never a border between fiction, life and music, and writing music for Les secrets de la Mer Rouge was an extension of his love of the open sea.

As Midnight Sister, multi-disciplinary LA artists Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian make motion pictures. Yes, sometimes with moving images _ but most often only with the music they create together. Balouzian's serpentine, string compositions are movie scenes that allow Giraffe, a brilliant character actor, to cloak herself in a new roles and voices. A bit of Jon Brion's score work; some old Hollywood strings; a solid dose of glam and outsider disco from 70s independent cinema. Any perceived artifice is always matched by an indelible human fingerprint, something perfectly off. Giraffe and Balouzian's respective work in fashion, visual art, video and film scoring _ along with the gang of virtuosos with which they surround themselves _ all wonderfully coalesce as Midnight Sister. And if 2017's `Saturn Over Sunset' was their collection of short films about outcast life in The San Fernando Valley, then their new album `Paining the Roses' is the inventive, meta motion picture that cements them as auteurs. `Painting the Roses' is in many ways a fairy tale -- not so much the sweet-and-happyending kind as something richer, packed with imagination and rooted in the complex human messiness beneath a story's artifice. Frontwoman Giraffe describes it as "this tightrope of being real yet synthetic, organic yet staged, light yet dark, logical yet irrational, beautiful yet dilapidated. Joyful nonsense." Here, disguises like masks and paint are not meant to hide but to liberate, to "set a part of us free", and Midnight Sister often embody this themselves, appearing highly stylized, curious, warm and inviting but a little askew. `Painting the Roses' is a story told through the looking glass, one where we examine ourselves in a funhouse mirror but find clarity in its twists. Giraffe traveled to visit family in Argentina during the making of the album and reconnected greatly with that part of her family history, art and culture. Balouzian created the core album opener "Doctor Says" during a session in the desert outside of LA. The guitar, which reminded Giraffe of South America, has a slow, sweltering surf-tango to it, like Dick Dale doing Carlos Gardel. And even though the song was inspired by Giraffe's reconnection with Argentina, the song is about the fading of some close friendships during the making of the album. "Man, you have changed," Giraffe sings, unclear if tis directed to a friend or to herself. Later on the album, "Wednesday Baby" _ named after Giraffe's rescue dog _ is patient, subtly baroque pop. It follows Giraffe through one of those gloomy days spent in tunnelvision doldrums from which only a sunbathing turtle or your canine companion can pull you out. By the time collaborator Max Whipple's saw comes beaming down from heaven in the song's 3rd part, we're hypnotized by the song's charming ennui. The song lands someplace both familiar and aloof, a little slice of timelessness taken straight from The Cake of Perfect Songcraft.

Jorge’s takes influences from Detroit and Chicago, as well as the UK and of course, Montevideo’s electro scene. Across three cuts we get a selection of future facing productions, composed with a vintage sonic aesthetic imbued with Gamarra’s heady mix of influences. The track ‘ade’ is opening the EP with a delightful adventure into the cosmos. Groaning bass is combined with a menagerie of twinkling sounds, chirps and effects straight from another galaxy. Next up is ‘MK Ultra’, named after the infamous CIA mind control experiments (“Involves several drugs and electrodes plugged into the brain”). This one utilises layers of retro instrumentation to take hold of your subconscious and get that body moving uncontrollably. Finally, ‘dtr’ is 10 minutes of Gamarra demonstrating his production prowess, bringing together groovy bass, sci-fi effects and a catchy earworm, whistling melody.

Øresund Space Collective (øsc), formed in 2004, is a totally improvising Scandinavian space rock band and has been releasing albums since 2006. The band has played concerts & festivals all over Europe. Their music is quite diverse and influenced by the ever-changing line up in the collective. This album features one 62min track split over 3 LP album sides, recorded in the studio back in 2014. The same session that gave us the 'Different Creatures' and 'Visions Of...' LPs/CDs and features some of the best musicians from the Scandinavian prog rock field. With a hardcore mind & explicit tongue, prolific NY rapper/producer ILL Bill keeps the spirit of underground hip-hop alive with an affinity for dusty sampling & a lyrical spectrum that ranges from vulgar & horrific to deeply insightful & pained. Music From Memory is delighted to be turning 50 with a special release: Mfm050 - V/A - Virtual Dreams: Ambient Explorations In The House & Techno Age, 1993-1997 (3xLP/2xCD). The first in a series of compilations, alongside more in depth artist-focused releases, Virtual Dreams will delve into music produced during the 1990’s that redefined the boundaries of ‘Ambient’. This was music that explored the possibilities of Ambient music within a new setting, created often by House & Techno music producers for a world beyond dance floors but made very much with the pre and post-clubbing listener in mind. When House and Techno exploded out of America in the mid 1980s a whole generation was redefined not only musically but also culturally and chemically speaking. Peaking, quite literally, with a second ‘Summer of Love’ in 1988, millions of young people across the world would experience the life-changing ups of a brave new world but with it of course came the downs; enter the concept of a ‘Chill-out’ room. Whilst early Chill-out rooms lacked a specific sound and were often soundtracked by music such as reggae and soul, slowly young Techno and House producers themselves would become increasingly interested in developing a futuristic ‘Ambient’ soundtrack to a world beyond the thud of the main room. ‘Ambient’ in this new age now though had sharper teeth than in Brian Eno's key text for ‘Music for Airports’, instead here the sounds were the mode of transport rather than the backdrop. While the melodies were pretty, the soundscape steered away from the pastoral, dreaming of outer-space and technology as opening up exciting new dimensions. Much like in the first Summer Of Love; the musicians were again exploring psychedelic, mind-altering and transcendental possibilities of music. And also much as in the first Summer Of Love, a psychedelic visual language would accompany the music. Though now the tracks could be accompanied by music videos, utilising early CGI techniques, they would look almost entirely to the future: envisioning technology, nature and humanity intertwined in a new Utopian future. Virtual Dreams of a better world. From Ambient and early Chill-out classics, to lesser known one-off projects, as well as Ambient deviations by some of House and Techno’s leading producers, Volume One of Virtual Dreams features tracks by Bedouin Ascent, LA Synthesis, LFO, Marc Hollander, Mark Pritchard & Kirsty Hawkshaw, Richard H. Kirk and more. To celebrate our 50th release the first 1000 copies include a holographic 'Virtual Dreams' sticker plus a special insert poster with artwork by Victoria Pacheco and design by Steele Bonus.

Audaciously championing R&B, vogue, and hip-hop sounds, Jasmine Infiniti’s latest collection of techno-hybrid dance tunes is built for the dancefloors of underground nightlife. While SiS, her debut EP, was an ode to queer solidarity, community, and sisterhood, Bxtch Släp refines the art of personal myth-building. It is an unflinching and uncompromising album, but it also boasts surprising range, moving briskly between ethereal hardcore house (“hott”), anxious dark electro (“spooked”), and certifiable techno bangers (“yes, Sir”, “wellfair”).
