It is hard to believe, but Waldeck´s signature album “Ballroom Stories” is 10 years old. The people at Dope Noir Records feel that this marks the perfect occasion to celebrate its anniversary with the release of a legitimate successor going by the name of “Atlantic Ballroom” - due later in 2018.
For those curious what the new album might sound like the wait will be sweetened by this very “Stay Put” EP available on 150 gr vinyl & digital formats.
Four brilliant downtempo tracks, all of them featuring Waldeck´s new chief-chanteuse Patrizia Ferrara whose extraordinary vocal performance will give you goose bumps right from the beginning all the way through.
Ferrara, being half Sicilian & half Austrian spent the better part of her musical career in Brooklyn, NYC. Asked for a comment Waldeck simply smirks:
“She is a real million-dollar baby”
As with previous releases this one once again hits the spot and highlights Waldeck´s ability to create a whole new sound universe. “Electro-Blues” meets “James Bond- in Casablanca”.
The first track “Stay Put” is quite obviously inspired by the legendary blues & swing icon Fats Waller and captures the mood of the early days of swing, when Al Capone allegedly hi-jacked Waller for a couple of days to play exclusively on one of his private mob parties.
Followed by “So it shall be” – a real beast - that lures with a snake charming seductive Ethiopian groove.
With “Rough Landing” Waldeck then time travels to the 21st century. It could well serve as a title song to the yet to be finished Bond movie “James Bond in Casablanca” (2024).
The last song “Je t´aime beaucoup” is a super slow downtempo blues that haunts you with a longingly whisper for love. A late night in Paris…. no questions asked.
Waldeck dwells on smokey Jazz riffs & bluesy piano lines. He likes to keep the overall electronic feeling subtle, but yet present.

First time ever on LP! To much delight of all Feelies fans in the world, Wouldn't Waste Records presents the second Wake Ooloo album on classic black vinyl Wake Ooloo was less a Feelies spin-off band and more of a temporary sequel. In absence of original Feelies' drummer Million , singer/guitarist's Mercer's musical partnership with drummer Dave Weckerman, a sometimes-uncredited Feelies percussionist who joined the band officially in 1983, fully blossoms with Gambino at Wake Ooloo. Following the Feelies' increasingly polished efforts for A&M, Wake Ooloo continued in the Feelies' tradition of jangling guitars, atmospheric percussion, and a deep Velvet Underground streak, but took a far looser approach -- a direct result of the meticulous Million's absence. Released three years after the Feelies' Time for a Witness, Wake Ooloo's debut Hear No Evil felt similar in spirit to the anarchic joy of early Feelies live bootlegs, though the sound would grow tempered with the successive album What About It. While Mercer wrote the majority of the band's material, Weckerman and others contributed original songs, as well. For fans of the Feelies, Wake Ooloo are as worth exploring as the Trypes or Yung Wu or more, given that they were Mercer's primary outlet for three full albums in the 90s.

Heralding the release of Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz, the forthcoming album by Detroit-born-and-based artist, Waajeed, the 12” features further examinations of the track’s motifs by the vaunted Detroit collective, Underground Resistance, Zambian producer SHE Spells Doom, and a special reimagining by Waajeed himself featuring live drums.

Alongside the LP version the three remixes further explore the links between Techno and Jazz, styles both founded on African traditions that make commentary on the present but are always oriented to potential hereafter.

On the People Mover Remix, Waajeed enlists the talents of Zo!, Tall Black Guy, Michele Manzo, and more to explore one extreme of the track’s musical heritage. Syncopated drums, driven by a full and bright snare drum, firmly place this version in the sphere of contemporary Jazz emanating from Detroit and cities across the US.

Coming from an album inspired by revolutionary efforts against oppression in Detroit and in Black locales around the world it is entirely fitting that Underground Resistance should provide their take on Motor City Madness. UR’s Mike Banks follows the lead of the original’s melange of genres. By thickening the bassline, peppering the mix with extra brass from the Mad Brass Horn Section, and adding strings courtesy of Six Mile Strings, UR further explore the dynamic intersection of music, history, and geography.

SHE Spells Doom closes the remix package with his second release on Tresor after his contribution to 2021’s Tresor30 compilation. The Zambian artist trims Motor City Madness down to the bones of the brass section and infuses them with a gqom beat, simultaneously referring to Jazz and Techno’s deepest roots in Africa, as well as suggesting where they might be headed in the future.

Debut album by Dutch producer w1b0, who passed away in August, to be released in November on U-trax.

Wibo Lammerts' sudden death on August 15thshocked the worldwide electro community, and also left the record label, that had been working on the debut album with the artist known as w1b0 for the past two years, dumbfounded and in grief.
Wibo had jokingly always called his upcoming debut album 'his legacy', which now sadly has become a painful truth. With the support of Wibo's family, U-trax is now doing the only thing that doesn't feel totally wrong: proceed as planned, and release 'When Humans Ruled The Earth' on November 11.

W1b0 made quite a name for himself with heavy electro tracks that he released on labels like Bass Agenda, Hilltown Disco and Discos Antónicos. Standing at 202 meters, and combined with a cheerful character, most people remember him as the gentle giant of electro. For this album, Wibo wanted to steer away from the dark and heavy electro he mostly made until then. The idea of having a platform to create delicate electronic music in different styles, and make it a showcase of his versatility, was very appealing to him. And that is where he and U-trax found each other.

The full-length album (over 75 minutes on cd and digital) comes after 'The Pilex Program EP', released in October, that featured a remix by Detroit's Ectomorph of 'Pilex Driver' and saw 'Program Yourself To Feel' remixed by a well-known Dutch producer that recently created the new 'techno alias' Human Form. As usual with U-trax, the album comes in three different editions, with the 11-track double vinyl version containing the Ectomorph and Human Form remixes. The CD and digital version boast original versions only, plus four additional tracks: 'Alternate Reality Interface', 'Mixed Matter Fluctator', 'Synthetic', and 'In There'. The cassette version more or less has the same track list as the CD/digi version, but has both aforementioned remixes and a bonus track in the incredibly hypnotizing 'I Wanted You', a track that unfortunately couldn't be on the CD and vinyl versions.

Buyers of the physical releases get treated on superior quality products, another trademark of U-trax. The vinyl edition boasts over one hour of music, on two 180 grams, green vinyl discs, in a black & white & neon green gatefold sleeve. The eye-catching artwork is created by Utrecht artist Leffe Goldstein, known amongst others for his psychedelic beer can designs for Utrecht brewery Maximus. Wibo, being the beer lover he was, had zero doubts about having Leffe Goldstein do the cover for his album. The CD has a total playing time of 75 minutes and comes in a beautiful 6-panel digipack, while the cassette will have full-color on-body print and comes in a plastic-free Maltese cross fold-up sleeve.

Opener 'Acid Whip' is one of the oldest compositions on this album, in which a dark 303 bassline hums over layers of spacey strings. Wibo named it after the legendary Whip It party in Amsterdam's De Melkweg. 'Alternate Reality Interface' then presents bouncy rhythms toying around with all sorts of analog (bass) synthesizers, before we go really deep with the epic ambient techno track 'Wandering Souls'. Then things get a little lighter spirited: 'Mixed Matter Fluctator' is an electro track that builds on sounds created by Matt Buggins. It has very strong Detroit influences, the city Wibo loved so much and that he made a pilgrimage to with a group of friends that called themselves 'The Techno Tourists'. The tempo goes up a notch in 'Program Yourself To Feel', that halfway opens up in wide science fiction strings that evoke memories of Star Wars, the movie series that Wibo was a great fan of, and that was the source of many of his tracks' names. The Human Form remix opens the vinyl edition of this album and is a downright belter of a track.

Next is a somewhat experimental intermezzo named 'Synthetic'. Erratic beats and pounding bassdrums get accompanied by very subtle eerie-sounding strings, before melancholic synthesizers and piano chords take over. This is an excellent prelude to the epic 'Hologram Computing', a track that is one of our favorites. It slowly and softly builds and builds, before a pounding bassdrum breaks loose and a hypnotic arpeggio takes you to higher planes. Not ready to letting the listener relax, w1bo then serves 'Beilstein Reference', which again presents his trademark cocktail of down-to-earth electro rhythms and catchy melodies, covered in all sort of little sounds and noises, giving the song a lot of energy. What follows is 'Hit me', a track loosely based on a song by Dutch indie rock band Mr. Joe Abe. Wibo met the band's singer on a camping site while being on holidays and the two decided Wibo should do a remix of one of their songs. Nothing was left of the original except the vocals, and the result is a remarkable cheerful, poppy electro song.

'Anticipated Input' is one of the more recent tracks Wibo made for this album, combining electro, acid and, yes: epic strings. But not all is peace and quiet on this album, as 'Pilex Driver' shows. This is w1b0 going experimental in a danceable fashion: Industrial sounds make the track sound like we're passing a construction site that is playing loud electro music. On the vinyl version of this album, Ectomorph totally decomposed the original and made it into a mysterious, almost subdued, and totally brilliant electro track that sees a main role for the retro Roland CR drum machines sounds.

TFHats, Wibo's fellow member of the Transhumanism collective, added lyrics to 'Cartesian Coordinates'. His vocals add a pleasant New Wave flavor to this song, that has breaks that remarkably reminds one of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. What follows is the most personal track on this album. 'Fornan' is a song that Wibo made for his wife Nanette, and was added as the last piece of the puzzle that creating an album is. The warm Detroit techno atmosphere in this electro song couldn't be a more beautiful tribute to his love, and mother of their two young boys. The album then takes a surprising detour through a 1980s landscape with 'In There', that features the Joy Division-esque vocals of another one of Wibo's friends, indicated only as Vincent. The super slow and gloomy track is a treat for anyone that loved the darker side of New Wave. The album has a worthy closer in the sensitive, yet playful 'Schlegel Diagram'.

The music of instrumental-folk quartet NRQ seems to defy categorization. Drawing their influences from styles as disparate as free jazz, Chinese folk songs, Calypso music, and the music of the Appalachians, every song presents a new twist or turn, and every album succeeds in defying expectations. Their third album, ‘was here’ saw the band welcome trumpeter and steel pan player MC. sirafu (The Natsuyasumi Band, Kataomoi, etc.), keyboard player Emerson Murakami (mmm, Kisel, etc.), and percussionist Okyon to create a sound quite unlike anything else they’ve ever done. The album was recorded exclusively with vintage tape machines, and the result is a warm, analog sound, with just the barest amount of hiss gently enveloping each track. To celebrate the 11th anniversary of the 2nd album from Vulture Industries, “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” has now gotten a makeover and will for the first time be available on vinyl. Re-mixed, de-mixed, remastered and unmastered, this release has been in the making for some time. Intent on an impeccable vinyl presentation, the band originally set out to re-mix the album. But good intentions turned to shit as the new master sounded worse than the original. So, two steps back, press reset, the original master was tweaked for vinyl and we are mighty pleased with the result. Originally released in 2010, “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” was released to critical acclaim and took the band to big festivals such as Hellfest Open Air and Metal Days. With the band growing in size, and the latest single, “Deeper”, reaching half a million streams, we know the fans are hungry for something new. And this is the only Vulture Industries album that hasn’t been out on vinyl yet. So, while we wait for something completely different and new from the band, we can enjoy a trip down memory lane with “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register”. “The Malfactor’s Bloody Register” was originally recorded at Conclave & Earshot Studios with Bjørnar Nilsen, and was mastered by Brian Gardner (Isis, NIN, David Bowie). The album also features a guest performance by Herbrand Larsen (ex-Enslaved) on hammond organ, and performers on cello, viola and saxophone.

This very personal take on the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" from 1983 is one of the most iconic and sought-after records from the early years of Spanish punk music. This short-life band led by girls made an historical appearance on Spanish TV that generated an unprecedented media, and even legal, uproar. Available again after 15 years out of print with its original artwork and including a poster of the band.On the morning of Saturday, April 16, 1983, the Spanish television show "Caja de Ritmos" aired the video 'Me gusta ser una zorra', a personal adaptation of The Stooges' classic 'I Wanna Be Your Dog', by the Basque punk band Vulpes. The media, and even legal, uproar that their television appearance generated had unprecedented consequences in the entire history of TVE (Spanish National Television), including the resignation of the program's director.Taking advantage of the notoriety achieved by the band, Dos Rombos -an independent Spanish label- would materialize the release of the single, previously modifying the name of the group by adding a final 'S' that would only increase the controversy: Vulpess.Closely watched by the police and beset by far-right violence, the gigs to present the single frequently ended in incidents. The story of this pioneering band, led by girls (Loles Vázquez on guitar, Estíbaliz Markiegui on vocals, Ruth Astigarraga -former member of N-634- on bass and Bernardo Vázquez -from M.C.D.- on drums; as well as Lupe Vázquez and Mamen Rodrigo), would soon come to an end, elevating the Vulpess to the category of myth, and their only proper release of the early 80s becoming a sought-after collector's item, and an icon of the early years of punk music sung in Spanish and an icon of a historical period in which Spain was moving towards full democracy, getting over last vestiges of the still recent dictatorship.

Rather than being emblematic of influences, each song by VR SEX infuses a dire tension that cuts shimmer with fetid frequencies, never establishing an aural hierarchy or urgency. Instead, we're led into punchy capsules of "dour pop"; the balance of saccharine and sour so emblematic of the VR SEX hive mind. Emotional Rescue celebrates a decade of reissues by again pulling deep from the well with the first of several French avant albums over the coming year. The self-styled "Ethno-Industrial" Vox Populi! present their 1989 Aither album, remastered and repackaged with love nearly 30 years later. Initiated by artist Axel Kyrou in 1982, Vox Populi! was soon joined by long term collaborator Pacific 231 on a series of coldwave/industrial cassette only recordings. Things changed considerably, however, with the meeting of the siblings, Mitra and Arach in 1984. The consequential use of "traditional" instruments and, especially, his wife Mitra's Persian folklore vocals gave a specific tonality, incorporating the band's expanding passion for oriental sounds, electronics and psychedelic music. Involving numerous musicians and friends in often-spontaneous studio sessions, the melting pot of varied cultural backgrounds added ethnic, electronic, concrete music, funk, dub and experimental flavours. This feeling of the subjective absence of the artist was achieved via a communal way for making music, but still with an aim to entertain while leading the listener to experience something unique - mind elevating, non-egotistical, ethereal music - all pushing the intellect towards a more artistic transparency. Vooo's words about "Same Old", My intention with this record was to refine a collection of the tracks most highly anticipated and requested by fans of my video content where I show the process of recording new songs. I selected each track not only on the basis of its connection with my audience, but also with the goal of curating a record full of emotive instrumental performances, positive moods and pure ear-candy. Many of these tracks were initially written as short-form “beat-video” content, and to transform the demos into full songs, I spent countless hours re-arranging, re-recording, and carefully mixing in a larger studio using high-quality vintage instruments and analog processing methods, particularly 8-track tape. The result is what I consider to be my most elaborate and well-crafted project which has been enhanced by the brilliant talents of the several featured instrumentalists and engineers involved.

Vooo is a multi-instrumentalist & producer originally from Los Angeles, currently based in Oakland. With a degree in music theory and a background in jazz, he has used his experience to dip into a number of genres, mostly in the world of hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul. In addition to releasing two solo albums since 2020, he has executive produced a few full-length records for other artists and created sample packs to raise thousands in mutual aid for the Oakland community. Vooo’s music has been featured on NPR’s New Music Friday, Bandcamp’s Best Soul of 2021 and several Spotify editorial playlists.

Target Earth is the thirteenth studio album, and the sixteenth release overall, by the Canadian heavy metal band Voivod, which was originally released in 2013. This is the first Voivod studio album to feature Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain on guitar (replacing the late Denis "Piggy" D'Amour) and the only one since 1991's Angel Rat with Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault on bass.

The main songwriters on Target Earth were Jean-Yves "Blacky" Theriault, in his first songwriting credit with Voivod since 1991, and Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain, who replaced Piggy. As Michel "Away" Langevin explained, Mongrain's role was both challenging and natural: "He had to think from his point of view how Voivod should sound like nowadays...He learned to play guitar listening to Voivod, and he knows all the albums, he's a fan of all the eras, so it feels very natural for him to write Voivodian material."

Voiski has been a prominent figure in the electronic scene for over a decade, with a discography that spans across labels such as Dekmantel, L.I.E.S, and Delsin Records. With ‘Hanging in the Stars Part 1’, he delivers a collection of tracks that showcases his mastery of sound design and emotive melodies.

‘Romance Mentale’ sets the tone for the EP with its deep, rolling bass line and soaring synth lines. The ambient ‘Harmonie Du Soir’ follows. It’s made of spacious pads creating a weightless atmosphere that provides a luxurious sonic experience.
