We have invited for the first time in our closed creative community the soul and creativity of an old colleague, friend and fellow traveler on the road of DAO of life. This is K▲nz If read from back to forth it comes from Znak, which means Sign when translated into Bulgarian. Originating and still gravitating in the suburban area of Lyulin district, these areas are known to give birth either to crime, or to art. In the case of Kaloyan “K▲nz” Gavrailov, the shady Lyulin area, thankfully sparks the latter. K▲nz has had a lot of attention in regards to nightlife participation and on behalf of labels, but definitely not yet the deserved one. Los Angeles based Natan H and Malta based artist Owen Jay return as Gauss with their first EP of 2017. Entitled Resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth EP for their cultured label Gauss Ltd. The title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. It's a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. Shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. More gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. Cutting ever more loose, Odyssey is a mix of IDM sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. Least Squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. This is an expansive EP that marks an exciting evolution in Gauss's sound.

Robert Hood's techno and Femi Kuti's Afrobeat intertwine in a new form where jazz-grooves reign supreme. For the fourth season of La Compagnie des Indes & Sourdoreille "Variations" live series of creations for France TV, the duo were united around the singer and producer James Brown, performing a tribute to the legendary Godfather of Soul who passed away in 2006. This "Variations" album is the live recording of this unique collaboration and performance, capturing a very special moment in time.

The evening witnessed a meeting of two icons in their own genres: one with synths and drum machines, the other on saxophone: Robert Hood and Femi Kuti embody excellence in their respective fields and the pair combined to make something truly unique, soulful, funky and spontaneous. Recorded in one 30+ minute take, "Variations" is embellished by Femi's exquisitely free-flowing yet restrained saxophone, whilst Hood anchors the groove with layers of pads and kicks with the long-time mastery of a true DJ.

Alongside Jeff Mills and Mad Mike, Hood is one of the original members of Detroit techno group Underground Resistance. His style is characterised by minimalist and experimental tones with an assertive groove. Throughout the '90s, he helped pave the way for techno to flourish - giving birth to minimal techno with his seminal album "Minimal Nation". Since then, he has been consistently forwarding electronic music culture with ground-breaking productions, sensational performances and his M-Plant label.

Alongside him, Femi Kuti takes on every musical style with his saxophone, which he plays with a virtuoso touch: pop, soul, electronic music and Afrobeat, of which he is one of the leading exponents. The son of Afrobeat singer and political activist Fela Kuti, he has inherited his father's zeal for both music and activism, where he continues to highlight the plight of most Nigerians living conditions in the oil rich state.

With "Variations" the duo capture an explosive combination on a special night in Paris 4 years ago, November 2019, filmed at the ADP Group headquarters (Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (cdg) - Roissy).

Raw formed during the summer of 1990 in Athens, Greece when keyboardist Giannis Papaioannou and percussionist Makis Faros started composing music for imaginary waiting rooms. They combined the traditional cut-up technique of tape-loops, the industrial timbres of musique concrète with the harmonics of world music, all filtered through digital sampling and computer programming. Their first recordings generated an 8-track demo, which was freely distributed among friends and the local underground press. After 6 months of work and several sessions with guest musicians on acoustic and electric instruments, Raw self-released their first album Land in December 1991 on Elfish Records. In 1992 they recruited the band’s sound engineer, Coti K., as a third member, both on stage and studio sessions. City was their second album fully inspired by the mechanisms of their home town. Presenting a different electronic face of Raw, manipulating rhythms with analogue synthesizers and harsh sampling to evoke the atmosphere of Athens. City was released on CD only by Elfish Records in 1994. Fragments is a collection of 4 songs from City presented on vinyl for the first time plus bonus track recorded during the City sessions previously released on a compilation in 1992. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each copy includes a double sided postcard with photos and notes.

Botmi Is the second act of Materica and wears the name of the fateful trio Parassela, formed by Blawan and The Analogue Cops, which have reached their sixth release together.

Their 4 original tracks composed, mixed and produced in Berlin during a furious session just before the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic feature their too fast and too funky combination of heavy analog processing hardware, modular exaggeration, high digital tech discomfort and paramilitary drums.

This work is an anxious assertion about the ideological bankruptcy of a so-called tired music industry that seems too contrived and refined for the antagonistic younger generation; a business model against the seminal anti-capitalist nature of Techno.

Rudis Materia, owner and founder of the newborn Materica label, with his geared music towards the techno-industrial genre with drone and EBM influences. His approach to the remix was different from the typical one:he decided not to take as the only reference one of the 3 tracks but rather the concept behind the EP. Then he sampled from the 3 tracks and from there he shaped his reinterpretation of Botmi.

This is the compilation album series of the craft brand QH, titled “Audio Smith.” The title is a portmanteau of ‘audio,’ meaning ‘sound,’ and ‘smith,’ signifying ‘blacksmith.’ It represents a new channel for QH that introduces music created based on the craftsmanship, which is the motto of QH.
This album was produced in collaboration with ‘AMON.CIN,’ a South Korean underground electronic music producer.
AMON.CIN is a DJ and producer based in Seoul. He produces electronic music through sampling based on classical soul, funk, and jazz. In this album, he utilized the technique of sampling as one of the tools of craftsmanship.

Artwork was done by Korean tatooist and Illustrator Metal Pinkman.

Whatever condition your condition is in, Soul4Real have huddled together a team of the finest soul physicians to make you feel good.

We scoured all the shelves in the soul pharmacy and discovered some potions that were only just through the trial stage. Just one listen to the brilliant Aretha, Gladys, Walter Jackson and the Purify’s tracks convinced us not to wait for FDA approval, so we took the plunge and shared them with the world on vinyl for the very first time. Recorded in 1968, Arthur Alexander‘s magnificent “I Need You Baby” reached legendary status during the tape-swapping epidemic of the late 70s/early 80s. The first traces of Alexanderitus were linked back to a tape dispensed by a north London mod by the name of Randy Cozens, which went viral. Even today, the mere mention of the title to any of those C60-swap-survivors can cause severe heart palpitations. Down in Memphis, they tend to practice the holistic approach to heartaches. Southern folk understand it’s about the voice and its natural healing powers, especially when it’s being administered by the likes of the Soul Children and Shirley Brown, who instinctively inject the perfect amount of ache, warmth and emotion to hit just the right spot. May we prescribe at least two listens a day, taken with or without food. Helping with recovery we have included tracks by our care team Maxine, Gil Scott-Heron and the Isleys, whose gentle grooves will help nurse you back onto the dance floor in record time. And finally, my personal favorite, Dr Johnnie Taylor. Frankly, it beats me how someone who delivers the lines "she don’t break no records when it comes to good looks” and “she burns up the food when she cooks" to his girlfriend manages to avoid a trip to A&E. We decided such foolish bravery should be rewarded by having his picture on the album cover.

Hypnosis’ was one of Drumcode’s most vital under-the-radar releases of 2019. Its creator, Veerus, returns to the mothership for another top-shelf offering. The Italian’s career is a brilliant slow burner, releasing EPs sparingly over the course of his 14-year career. There’s a narrative quality to each track too, the artist reveling in a drama-laden call-and-response dynamic. All three cuts from his latest ‘System’ EP are made for big moments. The title track was created with Amsterdam’s holy rave cauldron the Gashouder in mind, and was completed by Veerus just a few days before ADE last year. Balancing on a knife’s edge between tension and euphoria, the track’s twisted synth lines sent an energy surge through the iconic venue. ‘Year’ is a deadly one-two combo of synapse-searing synths and sharp drums as jagged waves of sound throb with panoramic effect. As one half of the Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia Robbert Heynan helped define the burgeoning sound of Tribal Techno in the early 90s, the duo produced a slyly conceptual and wonderfully cohesive body of work which included, amongst others, 3 classic albums, many groundbreaking singles and a Radio 1 Peel Session. In 1992 Heynan left to pursue a solo project under the name Exquisite Corpse and continued to release an inimitable string of House and Techno tracks, his production techniques and meshing of styles resulted in a unique signature that refuses to be categorised still to this day. For Wrecks042, Klasse Wrecks is proud to present a repress of one of Robbert's most hidden records, long out of stock around the world and well under the radar is the 'Chief' EP. Originally released in 1996 on Dutch label Prime the two tracks from the original EP have been remastered and are presented alongside two brand new and unheard versions, which have been laying dormant since waiting for the right time to peer out into the daylight. The resulting record is a wonderful capsule and insight to the body of work and creativity of Robbert, at times dark and hypnotic, introspective and heady but with the crosshairs always firmly set on the dance floor.

Samuel L Session and Van Czar drop a four-track techno EP on Unrilis that showcases a deeper and more hypnotic sound with dystopian atmosphere and driving percussion. Rino Cerrone launched the Unrilis record label over 15 years ago, and part of the label's back catalogue is its iconic Rilis series. 2022 sees the relaunch of the Rilis series that has a focus on underground DJ tools with raw analogue sounds. The Rilis series was originally launched in 1999, and was restricted to a concept on only 10 releases, each pressing a limited run of vinyl. It was hugely popular with each one often selling out in only a week and picking up DJ support by people ranging from Jeff Mills to Richie Hawtin. Those first 10 releases were focused on Rino Cerrone's own music, but since his retirement from the industry, the revitalised Rilis series will welcome other artists whose sound matches the label's underground concept. This latest release in the Rilis series features collaborative tracks by Samuel L Session and Van Czar who have previously teamed up for releases on other imprints ranging from Marco Bailey's MB Elektronics to Ben Sims' Hardgrooves. Both are also successful solo artists, Sweden's Samuel L Session being well-known for his headline DJ sets at clubs around the world, along with the music he has released via iconic imprints such as Slam's Soma, Shlomi Aber's Be As One, Len Faki's Figure and Emmanuel's Arts plus his own imprints SLS, Cycle, New Soil, and Klap Klap Belgium's Van Czar is also an accomplished DJ who is well-established across Europe and he has also released music on respected record labels ranging from Kevin Saunderson's KMS Records as well as the classic imprint, Yin Yang. 'Air Raid' opens the release with its eerie pads, spine-tingling melody loop and machine-driven percussion. Although this may be the first release under his new moniker, Massiande has spent the last decade putting out productions with labels such as Housewax, Phonica, Freerange and Groovin. Firing on all cylinders from the get-go, ‘Rise’ kicks off the Walk Into The Light EP. A hyperspace melding of new beat, Italo and arp-operating techno that opens out into a slice of peak-time revelry.

The swirling textures of ‘It’s On’ follow, pushing you into the next dimension. A hypnotic, entrancing and arresting heads-down powerhouse. Crunchy and considered it's the kind of strobe-stuttering basement jam that turns heads inside out.

Play It Say What Records and Isaac Basker return after a 5-year hiatus with White Souls Lost (Part II), providing 4 styles of Isaac’s distnict, “thumping” take on American house music designed for dancefloors, headphones, or contemplating human existence. Never shy of controversial track titles and themes, a trend that can be traced back to previous collaborations with Public Enemy as a hip-hop DJ and turntablist, Isaac cuts right to the chace again focusing on the state of the “soul” in post-Trump America.
On the title track, A1 “White Soul’s Lost (Part II),” a play on words of Nas’ “Black Girl Lost,” Isaac calls into question the state of some white folks’ souls in an appropriately emotive banger that starts with Afro house- oriented congas and layered deep pads until guitar solo-like chord riffs build to a layered crescendo. From this point on, to its conclusion, the track keeps the listener on high.
A2, “So Lonely Here” brings a definitive Isaac sound influenced by his experience growing up dancing in clubs to vintage NYC deep house. The track provides a deep, dusty, almost lo-fi-esque vibe geared to be a perfect track for an early set or afters. Isaac’s love of simple vocal drops in part from his background as a turntablist comes into play again as a lone, sexy female voice casually reminds us of their feelings of isolation, and is a double entendre on the state of lost souls everwhere.
B1, “Noisy Neighbours,” evokes that “thump” Hard Wax once labeled some of Isaac’s tracks. Created in response to noise complaints, a coded reference to Trump supporters, and even Isaac’s world football allegiances it could be categorized “deep house techno” but this ain’t no tech house. Heavy kicks bump over choped up live percussion as a lone pad keeps it deep, and then an analog bassline reveals the underground, grooving along to vocal drops that demand the listener to “Stop, look and listen.”
Lastly with B1, “A Paradox Now!” Isaac’s love for titles derived from word play refers this time to Francis Ford Coppola’s classic film “Apocalypse Now!” The track teases with mellow keys laid over strong 909 drums and a prominent minimal bassline as it builds slowly over panned high hats. However, it then flips from chill to bumping as a live percussion sample arrives along with a repeated Terre Thaemlinz influenced vocal that proceeds to drive the track to its peak.

Skream, P41 and Octave One Remixes. Octave One's deep and downtempo 90s project Never on Sunday will be back later this year with another EP. Before that, they tease with a lead single that comes with remixes from Skream, P41 and the legendary Detroit brothers themselves.

Though best known for their electrifying live shows and stadium-sized techno productions as Octave One, the Burden brothers also started the electronic band Never On Sunday back in 1991. It saw them put out one solo EP, and one with MK, before the success of the Octave One project took over. Aside from an experimental audiovisual live show in Rome in 2018, it has laid dormant... until now. During the pandemic and no doubt inspired by more time at home and away from the energy of the dance floor, the brothers have cooked up a wealth of deep and thoughtful new material that is rich in detail and atmosphere, as this new single proves.

The Bearer (Original Instrumental) is still defined by scintillating angle sounds, from the meandering synths to the crunchy broken beats, but the tempo is slowed so you have more time to gaze at the cosmic pads and sink deep into the otherworldly sonic landscapes. First to remix is party-starting UK DJ and multi-faceted producer Skream. He lays down rock solid kicks with rib-rattling bass rumbles that make for an incendiary techno track. Add in the spine-tinglingly chilly vocal performance from Karina Mia, and you have a track designed to make a huge impact in even the largest of warehouses.

Next up is P41, the Italian electronic-engineer who worked with Francesco Tristano on his famed live shows and has himself played everywhere from Off Sonar to Studio 80 in Amsterdam. His remix is hugely emotive, with chunky drums laced with subtle melodic bleeps and a futuristic atmosphere that will hypnotize all who hear it. Finally, the Octave One remix is six minutes of perfectly well-swung deepness. The hits are dry, the vocal becomes more warm and soulful and the mid-tempo groove is irresistible.

This is a superb new EP that re-introduces the Never on Sunday in fine style.

Club Resource over the past 10+ years.

iDEAL’s mucky curatorial paw print is all over this one, spotlighting that point where Wanzer’s wayward, effluent grooves intersect the gurning rhythmic chew of Aaron Dilloway or Nate Young’s Regression Sessions, and perhaps most strongly resembling the gristliest, no-fuucks-given bits of the ‘80s underground tape scene so formative to his sound.

Opener ‘Grumps’ sounds like he’s augmented the rhythm track to ‘Lady In Red’, V/Vm-style, for the dankest fetish basements, before he sashays thru the queasiest permutations of knackered machines on the smeared, Incunabula-esque lines of ‘Stear’ to the knee-capped trot of ‘A Burrowing Booboo’, the pure rhythmic noise grind of ‘Plaster Class’, and the buckled electro of ‘Warm Waterboarding’, with the closest you’ll get to romance on ’Simple Men’, plus an inimitable alloy of subvocalised glossolalia and crawling groove to bring us to a close on the title tune.

Messy, and thrilling.

Orphic Apparition is a new label born out of a transatlantic meeting of minds. Facilitated by a long, hedonistic party in one of present-day London’s ‘meanwhile use’ venues Grow Tottenham, Canadian producer Raf Reza and British acid house luminary Paul Chivers spent a precious day in the studio to record a 3 hour straight to DAT session before Reza's return to Canada. The result of this spontaneous yet intuitive collaboration blurs the lines between Chiver’s long-standing Ramjac Corporation alias and Reza’s genre-spanning approach to dub, breaks and house styles. Part of the early 90s rave scene and an important member of the blueprint-setting Irdial label, Ramjac locks heads with the self-professed ‘lazy music guy from Toronto’ to adapt their studio session into five separate mixdowns. ‘In The Grow’ begins with a bouncy, cut-up sounding Errorsmith-esque rhythm, the recurring fright night melody that distinguishes the record coming in all quick and powerful. The A2 ‘Rotten Mix’ offers a more traditional house approach in its composition, with dub FX and a nice DJ friendly outro. On the final uptempo choice the pair opt for a head-scrambling electro take. Choose your fighter! The ‘Swampy Dub’ on the flip really dismantles everything we’ve heard prior, slo-mo drums allowing a much different DJ experience and altering the freaky synthetic propulsion into an almost modern classical sound. A little like Paul Dresher’s eternal ‘Channels Passing’ (tip). Combined with the other edits this version almost becomes a totally different track. The final ‘Rootless Dub’ gives its clues in the title, removing all the tough drum sounds and allowing for an ambient decompression. Orphic Apparition will return soon.

Well swung claps bring that irresistible sense of groove, while twisted melodies add raw dynamics. Add in the heavy underlying bass and you have a classic Octave One track that is both physical yet emotional. On the flip side is ‘It-Just-Is’ a powerful statement of intent. It’s a stripped back track where house and techno meet - there is a seductive slide to the drums and potency in the turbulent synths which bring the energy. The melody is melancholic and as the emotive pads ring out they lodge deep in your brain to make for another standout cut. This vital new release proves Octave One remains right at the forefront of underground music more than 30 years after they started out.

For this sixth release we prepared something special and very close to our hearts. While digging deep into the obscurities of French House music a few years ago, a friend pointed us to a label, Labo Music which had just a few releases in its catalogue and was run by an artist called “Bo’”. Through a series of synchronistic events, we managed to get a hold of the very first 2 releases produced by Bo’ himself, and since that moment we got lovestruck with the music contained in those records. It was later Bo’ himself to tell us that the music in LABO001 and LABO002 was capturing a very special and delicate moment of his life, while he was going through personal challenges and changes, that took him into musical directions that he was not used to pursue.
We don’t know what force he channelled with those sessions, but the music resonates so much with us, that we felt it should not be heard just by a few lucky ones and thus decided to pick our favourite tracks and reissue them on OCD.

Simple Symmetry turn in an epic, mournful EP that reflects on their journey in exile. After a long-standing affiliation with Multi Culti that includes remixes for Nicola Cruz and Drugface, as well as a huge edit for Culted, the Russian brothers weigh in with a heavy 12” that comes on the back of an emotional year where they defected from Moscow, their world turned upside down by politics of aggression. ‘Problem’ is built around a kernel of punk panic performed by Hugo Van Heijningen (of Red Light Radio, Cawd Slaydaz, Order Collective). The anxious rage embedded in that opener finds a kind of disoriented catharsis in ‘Where I Am’, an uptempo ravey anthem that recalls the rush of CJ Bolland’s ‘Electronic Superhighway’ with a sense of angst and energy all their own. It’s the song of the soul-searching raver, finding a sense of home in the ecstasy of the dance, amidst a backdrop of oppressive fear and uncertainty. The triptych concludes with the mournful ‘Funeral Of Past Affections’, their own strange brand of horn sounding a vast and potent letting go. At once influenced by and homage to Andrew Weatherall, this one hits hard, emotionally. Imagine tears on the dancefloor, the strings reminding us that dance music can indeed be anchored in the very deepest centre of our soul. Supporting them on this trip are long-time compatriots Red Axes, a natural fit for the indie-punk elements in ‘Problem.’
