On the flipside, blunted desire lingers in ‘Fading Memory’. Both hopeful and mourning: this is the lay of the land in Brutal Flowers sharing that rare strain of underground synesthesia best located in dark undercurrents of early Mo Wax. The orchestral ambience of ‘Autumn Ost’ is a potent stupor of end credit cinematics. Coming up for air. It feels young in an ancient sort of way: pure as first snow. And from here in the album unfolds with the patience, tranquility and the expansive poise of a work that is for now and always. Pulsating gently to assured ending with ‘Be Together’ - a flickering skyline, swarming with warm memories. In between there’s flashes of heartbreak reminiscent of Beltran's Ten Days of Blue and Blunt’s Stone Island (‘Look Up’ feels like a sort of spiritual successor to ‘Wake up’), that being said, when push comes to shove it only it ever flirts with its own reality. An aesthetic reflection of a creative process that is delicate and restless. Created in the edges, where long distances, fast cities and global melancholia are wrought large. Burning the midnight oil Berlin-Singapore style: from real to reel. A sentimental exercise of modern faith by old friends. With a nudge and a wink, Brutal Flowers is a (de)coded map of memories wavering with familiar intrigue. Patient listeners and the already initiated will be rewarded on re-visits - as playful & profound as you please, as deep as the heart. The scathe that cuts is clean and deep. Since he first landed on our radar via Vivid a few years back, Yosh has dished out enough high grade garage and breakbeat gear to fuel the scene on his own. Not only a prolific producer, he's also got a razor sharp flair which edges him in front of a crowded scene, and now he's back to Vivid to show us exactly what he's about with a 12-track double-pack, his biggest release to date. In one sense you should know exactly what to expect - elevated steppers and deft rollers, but the fundamental appeal of Yosh is all those ear-snagging traits which make his tracks sparkle, and you never know what they're going to be until the needle's tracking in that groove. Now you can enjoy that sensation 12 times over - a good deal if ever we saw one.

Lee X-plode is one of our artists from Vinyl Fanatiks who released an EP back in 1992 that was Huge! Over the years this self-funded white label grew in popularity, with copies fetching over £200. He joined the family in 2020 when we re-released this monster, selling out instantly.

Lee is back on the hardcore hustle once again, bringing his 3rd EP onto Amen Brother, this time incorporating a more melodic piano vibe into his raw to the core 91 hardcore sounds. You will find yourself raising your hands in the breakdowns before going straight into the pumping 4/4 breakbeat roll outs. Music to move to!

X-Plode is a master of the 1992 rave sound. Listening to any one of his tracks, you could easily imagine them being part of a Top Buzz set back in the early 90’s. Hailing from Bolton, Lee aka X-Plode self-released his debut EP on white label in ’92, which would go on to be a highly collectable item and in turn would prompt Vinyl Fanatiks to track him down, which was not easy I can tell you, in order to repress it in 2020.

Wheez-ie's uncompromising rave anthems get a wild ride of remixes from Tim Reaper, Vtss, DJ Stingray 313, Aura T-09 & Cardopusher

An of-the-moment remix EP full of bold, dark, and relentless warehouse thrillers. On January 14, L.A.-based producer Matt "Wheez-ie" Mauldin follows up October 2021's Horizons release on Evar Records with an of-the-moment remix EP that's cathartic, riveting, uncompromising and altogether powerful. Wheez-ie gathers together an all-star cast of dancefloor iconoclasts who reinterpret his singular '90s-referential rave visions to thrilling affect – this is all killer, no filler warehouse music for those who are brave enough to take the ride.

London's jungle modernist Tim Reaper reworks "Horizons" – a Summer of Love-ready breakbeat epic with cinematic, near gothic overtones – into an homage of sorts to early LTJ Bukem, cutting up Wheezie's melancholy synths into a twinkling fairyland that dances atop a weighty ton of chopped amens and classic jungle subs. Detroit icon DJ Stingray 313 trades in the punishing techno vibes of the original "Anon" for something equally fierce – a versatile 139 bpm slab of expertly-machined industrial electro that pairs perfectly with the sample "You think you know me, you don't," which could well be a rallying cry for Wheez-ie's unexpected musical stylings.

The surprises continue on the remix of "Pressure," tackled by Evar Records label head Aura T-09 with the wildly eclectic Barcelona-based Cardopusher. The duo transform Wheez-ie's aggressive free-festival hard trance into a cheeky and modern riff on early Paul Van Dyk/Tiësto/Love Parade anthems. Gossamer layers of Aura T-09's angelic vocals and tunneling Acperience arpeggios are offset by a wildfire of hacked breakbeats and Dominator synth stabs, revealing Cardopusher's rich breakcore past. Rounding out this fully mental and totally unexpected remix pack is a nasty, naughty fingerblast from the Berghain dark room via Polish-born, Berlin-based Vtss. Where other remixes add the breaks, the fast-techno goddess strips back the early '90s breakbeat hardcore onslaught of the original and replaces it with an equally relentless industrial 4/4 beat – the entire tune is a masterclass in the intensity for which she's known. Uncompromising and utterly of-the-moment, the Horizons Remix EP explores new shades of the themes that infuse Wheez-ie's original: dystopian futurism, uncertainty, dark beauty and rave catharsis. Blunted Breaks Vol.1 was a landmark release for Western Lore, cementing the label as a lead player in the burgeoning jungle revival. An essential contemporary jungle compilation, featuring tracks from Dead Man’s Chest, Coco Bryce, Tim Reaper, Threshold & more.

Spaceship Riddim Jungle Tool is an utter dance floor destroyer. With an instantly recognisable and energy lifting hook and an all out assault of bassline heaven and amenisim to match, this rhythm is guaranteed to make a rave lift off.

Track A2 steps into Footwork territory, with a dance floor weapon of an entirely different ilk, pairing looped up vocal cuts with swung out and percussive drum machine rhythms, while the B side drifts back into rugged amen territory, this time drenched in deep sub and organic ambience

Following a trail-blazing run, Overview Music returns with one of it's most sought after singles pressed onto waxed.

Dutch prodigy Waeys heads back to the label once more, bringing his highly anticipated 'Objection Vip', backed with a potent remix from Simula that's been causing a major stir in the scene.

Vibes 93 is having a whale of time rinsing out all kinds of upfront drum & bass and jungle, but this takes the fun to a whole new level. The Dutch producer isn't making any attempt to mask the source material on his summer-scouting new release, calling on hip-hop and r&b legends for vocal samples in the midst of straight-up, feel good rollers. Eschewing his rowdier, underground material for something more universal, this is the kind of record which will bring a massive swathe of people together for some proper moments, but more to the point it's done with panache.

DNB Mixes with vocals by 2Pac (Do For Love) and Erykah Badu (Next Lifetime, Searching, Tyrone)

Verbz & Mr Slipz team up with drum and bass legend Alix Perez on the remix of stand-out single ’The Rain’, lifted from their acclaimed LP ‘Radio Waves’, released on High Focus Records back in 2020.

With a fever dream vocal hook from avant-garde / Berlin-based vocalist Riah Knight elevating the offering to even greater heights, ‘The Rain Rmx’ offers up a looking glass to the world as Verbz sees it; a deep palette of blues and greys emanating from his committed multi-syllables, punctuated by bright sparks of colour courtesy of Mr Slipz’ expertly curated sample-work and Alix Perez’s rolling rhythms and basslines.

With Summer 2022 in full swing, ‘The Rain Rmx’ offers up a different, reflective viewpoint to the anthems running riot across festival season. The track feels like a perfectly balanced short film, and cements both Alix Perez’ and Mr Slipz’ reputations as expert music makers and Verbz and Riah Knight as valuable voices in uncertain times.

In 2021 Velocity Press published Who Say Reload: The Stories Behind the Classic Drum & Bass Records of the 90s, an oral history of the records that defined jungle/drum & bass straight from the original sources. The deluxe coffee table book has since sold thousands of copies and prompted many to comment that it should have an accompanying soundtrack.

Now author Paul Terzulli has compiled a Who Say Reload album. However, where the book focused solely on classics and anthems, the compilation takes a different route and offers up a selection of top-quality tunes from some of the scene’s most respected artists and labels.

Like the book, the album covers the genre’s nineties golden era, and the many styles of D&B are represented. Pioneering producers and crowd-pleasing favourites sit alongside a few sought-after obscurities by the unsung heroes of the scene. Most importantly, there are some absolute bangers!

The 16 tracks are spread over two volumes of 2 x 12"s, and there is also a 13-track digital version, taking you on a journey through music forged from raw breakbeats and basslines that soundtracked a culture of all-night raves, specialist record shops and pirate radio stations.

Jungle/drum & bass is approaching its 30th anniversary. Its sonic and cultural legacy is still being felt today. There’s still plenty of old music that might be “new” to some, and these tunes still pack as much of a punch as they did back in the day. That unique energy generated by a combination of breakbeats, bass and creativity never gets old.

From Karma Recordings comes their eleventh EP. After causing appalling destruction and devastation with the first in the "Unrest Hazard" series, Erupt has the nerve to not apologise to you, just do it all over again. Once again, this special series showcases four or five artists on one record, each bringing a different flavour of their own to the wide world of hardcore, jungle, and drum n bass.

Wild Swan, previously known as Ugly Duckling, returns after being there all the way back when the label spread its wings in 2020. On "*int", the result is a frenzied collab with Mr Dan Master, most recently known for making noise with his "System of Systems" album as Haberdashers' Adams. Kool FM regulars Subbreak, D-Region and Code make an appearance, meanwhile, with a pounding remix of "Industry Plant".

DJ Terrace and Jon Tetly, connoisseurs of hardcore jungle with a back-catalogue of Kniteforce, 4 The Core and Codename: RCRDS releases between them, bring "Doing Battle" and "I Get Stu Pid" to the table.

Finally, Schoco appears on Erupt once again. Known for his much-loved remix of "Zero Time", his latest is the frenetic "Love Is The Answer", previously championed by Dead Man's Chest on SWU.FM, and now FINALLY getting the appearance on wax it deserves!

Erupt Records has suffered its first Unrest Hazard. After keeping the lid on a beast this explosive, what did you think was going to happen?

This new series of '4 on 1' EPs from the mighty label, will showcase several of the best producers from the UK (sometimes even beyond!) breakbeat hardcore/jungle scene on 1 record, be they old or new.

The first track from Schoco (Omni Music) is "I Need". Let yourself go to wispy, dream-state synthlines over ferocious breakz.

Track 2 is a bouncy piano anthem for anybody who likes hearing the words "1993" and "happy" in the same sentence. This one is brought to you by After The Zenith. Usually resident cover artist for Erupt, this time he grabs the steering wheel and gears up to present you a bit of his own 'ardcore.

Next up is some brutality from Tactical Aspect. Need no more be said than these lads are one of Australia's finest purveyors of hardcore junglism, with a portfolio including works for Reinforced Records. But, with a recent move back to Yorkshire, and following an initiation into the West Yorkshire Jungle Collective, it only made sense for TA to deliver some unrelenting '93 style breakbeat hardcore brutality to celebrate.

The final track "When Did We Forget" is a get together from the lads at Kool FM, Code and Subbreak, with D-Region. Any time you see these names together, it commands serious respect. This is one for anybody who likes those hazy breakbeat hardcore tracks that tread a fine line between hard and euphoric.

Erupt Records was established in 2016 to cover tougher, faster styles of electronic dance music, with a view of openness towards introducing contemporary influences alongside the familiar; Hardcore that reflects today, not yesterday. The objective? Push the boundaries, keep the drums raw, compromise for noone.

This Ep is Out Of Romford's homage to the original Shakedown FM crew. The A side has two brand new jungle tracks that have been made with authenticity in mind. Locked In is an atmospheric jungle track that just sends people in to mad rushes when its dropped. Electric Highway is more fast paced and something to get the crowd hyped! The B side is something truly special because these are original unreleased tracks from 1994! Both are obscenely good and intense slices of proper jungle that for one reason or another were never released back in the day. Still, 1994s loss is our gain and that means we get to unleash these slices of history for you today.

Influential was a Kniteforce owned jungle / d’n’b label that ran for nearly 20 releases back in the late 90’s, before coming to a halt as KFA took off. But now it is returning, revamped into an old skool styled jungle label, complete with irreverent samples and deep jungle bass and dancehall vibes. All four tracks on this EP lean in slightly different directions, but all are forwards in reverse, proper jungle for those who know the original sound.

Forthcoming on Subbase Progression is the all new Subplates Vol 6 EP. The iconic series of releases from the first wave of SubBase now sees a brand new 4 track EP dropping soon as a stunning picture disc. Way back in 1993, Suburban Base Records launched the Sub Plates series, a homage to the dubplate culture of early jungle music, it was even released in the 10” vinyl format to reflect the acetate plates DJ’s were playing. Now in 2022 the way we consume music has evolved, DJ’s are no longer playing the 10” dubs, and the average vinyl buyer is a collector and connoisseur of great music. This iteration of the Subplates series reflects this change. Aimed squarely at the vinyl collectors Subplates Vol 6 is presented as a stunning double-sided picture disc. Incredible art direction has long been a hallmark of Suburban Base and this release definitely delivers with one of the most stunning looking releases ever from the label. Instantly recognisable as SubBase with the cool graffiti/street art style mural and including the labels original & iconic SB logo within the design. There’s more to this release than just an eye-catching design though… Imprinted into the grooves of this collectible limited edition vinyl are 4 brand new tracks from some of the labels most recognised artists! Marvellous Cain, Dead Dread, Cool Hand Flex, Badman & DBH each bring a track to this new format Sub Plates release. Original jungle vibes & flavours bought bang up to date for 2022. Sweet Ting by Marvellous Cain is currently getting radio support from Rampage on BBC Radio 1, Heartless Crew on BBC 1Xtra, and international club support from Brazilian turntable wizard DJ Marky.

SUB Plates Vol 5!! - SUB Plates is back and in the original format that made it such collectable item when it launched back in the day! 2 x 10 inch vinyl replicating the dubplate style acetates. And picking up from where it left off with Vol 5 like it's never been away!

First up is the return of Suburban Base recording artist Cool Hand Flex, who had music featured on the first generation SUBPlates! The track here 'Get Down' is a piece of uncovered treasure that has been rediscovered having sat on DAT master in storage since around 1994 and never been released. Exclusively held on dubplate by Randell, Hype, and Flex himself, it is finally getting a release as part of this special package.

Next up we introduce brand new music from brand new Suburban Base recording artist Sound Shifter collaborating with the legend Marvellous Cain on the beautiful 'Light Source One', a rolling piece of DnB which manages to keep classic elements of production whilst at the same time delivering stunningly fresh Drum & Bass.

Subbase veterans Sophisticated Bad Boyz open record 2 with the DJ Phantasy VIP '94 Dubplate version of 'Feel The Magic', only held on Dub Plate by a very select few, and appeared only once on the D&B selection album 3 (The Dub Plate Selection) with very limited vinyl of that cut as 5 tracks per side, now for the first time ever you can get this stunningly remastered dubplate cut on a side all by itself sounding truly amazing.

Flipped with another much sought after classic dubplate special 'Intelone' by Asend was a Kool FM only VIP Dubplate around the time Asend aka Dead Dred hosted his show on the Midlands version of the infamous pirate radio station, it made only one appearance on a 1996 Kool FM dubplate special project and has been hard to find ever since. Remastered and sounding incredible!

Rogue Style 1 EP is an international homage to b-boy culture, where the worlds of breakbeat music and breakdance collide. Sinistarr (USA), Kiat (Singapore), Kabuki (Germany) and HomeSick (Canada) are connected in many ways, now they lay bare their hip-hop roots and give something back with a fresh take through the eyes of drum & bass and juke/footwork.

The Limited Series continues with the 9th release on the sub label. Bpls009 presents a 5 track compilation of stripped back and scantily clad drum tracks. 2020 hasn't been the year for clubs so here's something low key. The opening track "Pitch Control" comes from Guava. A subtle composition of percussive tools and well crafted sub bass, further exploring his sound from previous appearances on Holding Hands and Control Freak. Luxe fka DJ Luz, the Manchester based producer and B.L.O.O.M affiliate provides her debut track "Falcon's Rise", a nostalgic remedy with a euphoric vox and scattered jungle drums. Part two opens up to French producer Pipholp, his second appearance on the label, adding another broken beat, IDM inspired jazzy house entry with "Angers". A sense of patience between moods leaving you in limbo. Monotronique also joins with "Beat Himself" on the B2, a no nonsense bass heavy DJ tool for that specific peak occasion. More danger after his debut appearance on the Black Label Series (bpbl03) last year. In a total mood change, the release comes to a meditative close with "Wide Awake" from Padre Oe. A collaboration between Pete Lazonby, an artist with a long history most known for his chart heading solo production "Sacred Cycles" on Brainiak Records in the 90's, and Otto Fischer, a Nigerian free-improvising singer, lyricist and guitarist best known for his guitar work with the Alexander Hawkins Ensemble. The track also features Henry Lowther on trumpet, widely recognized as one the UK's best, and the strongest contributor to Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden with dozens of top of the pops appearances with a spanning list of important and renowned bands appearing at Ronnie Scott's to Woodstock. Opening with a brand new 2022 remix, B-Key reworks of one of the labels biggest releases Oh Gosh! Which has gained widespread support throughout summer 2022 events. While being brand new, retains the original jungle flavours from back in the day.

Under his M.T.S alias, Undercover Agent has included the in-demand original version of Assembly Line from 1995. A massive bassline finished with stripped back drum work and heavily dubbed out samples remastered for this picture disc make for a sure fire winner.

On the B-side we’re presented with a never before released 96 Dub Mix of ‘Dream’ sourced from original studio DAT recordings.

Finally, the wobbly bass tones of the high value Undercover Agents own remix of Hypnosis rounds out this beautifully curated collectors item.

From Karma Recordings comes their fourteenth EP. I can hardly believe it myself as I type this but yes, Karma Recordings is up to 014. On remix duties this time around is the very talented Dope Ammo. Fusing the jungle and drum n bass styles together seemlessly we feel we have another classic in the making with this release. Taking the pianos of DJ Kos’ original Horizons Lost and overlaying some haunting vocals and then slamming into the dnb, this track is not to be missed. Then rolling right on to the second remix on the A side we just had to release on to vinyl the brilliant Sync Dynamix remix. With a style all of his own Sync Dynamix has really done the track justice with rolling breakbeats and a heavy bassline. I was originally going to title this the light and dark EP and then completely forgot while doing the artwork. However, that’s where we went with the double A side. Psycho Boy by DJ Ande is a grimy menacing track sampling the laughter of Tyler Durden from Fight Club and just gets more and more troubled all the way through. Sinister, scary and chopped, the perfect track for Halloween. Then we have been delighted to bring back the hardware talents of Dertie Bassett, always a bit dark but absolutely superb. All four tracks will take you on a journey from light to dark.

Spearhead Records bring back some of the most requested tracks from the back catalogue.

From Karma Recordings comes their tenth EP. A massive milestone for the label in these trying times since releasing their first EP in December 2021. It seemed fitting to bring back producer Blame to remix the massive title track Crystals from DJ Ande, the original on Kr002, the Neo EP which was also remixed by Blame. It also seemed the perfect time to cut Neo’s Reality from DJ KOS as a nod to Blame and the superb Neo’s Real Future. The third and final track is Crushed Ribs from DJ Terrace who is becoming a bit of a staple to the Karma Recordings label, being featured on Kr003 and Kr008 as well as projects for the future. Keep an eye on this label, they are slowing down for no-one.
