Rancid is without question one of the most successful and influential punk bands ever, not to mention being among the most prolific. Their nonstop songwriting and marathon studio sessions often result in far too many songs to fit onto their albums. True Rancid fans know that in addition to their classic long players, many of their finest tracks have been released as single B-sides, bonus tracks, on compilations, or in some cases have remained in the band’s vault. That is why B sides and C sides is no mere throwaway record, but an essential part of this classic band’s catalog. The songs collected here represent a cross section of everything that has made this band so beloved worldwide, including their creative genre hopping from blazing punk rock to danceable ska, to reggae, rockabilly, and more, all executed with some of the most impressive playing in the history of underground music. The songs range from fan-favorites like “I Wanna Riot” to obscure hidden gems from rare or hard-to-find compilations, and a handful of studio recordings that were completely unreleased before this album, several coming from the fertile recording sessions for the band’s sprawling 1998 masterpiece Life Won’t Wait. Originally released on CD in 2007, most of the tracks range from the band’s early days through their sixth album, Indestructible, although the 2012 track “Fuck You,” from the Pirates Press Records compilation Oi! This is Streetpunk! Volume 2 was added to place a definitive final word on the collection when it was pressed on vinyl. With the album being out of print and hard to find in its own right for the past ten years, Pirates Press Records is thrilled to partner with our friends in Rancid to remedy that situation, and make this essential piece of punk rock history available to their many fans across the globe - this time as an incredible double 12” with super deluxe Colored Vinyl and matching sleeve art!

Obnox is dead, long live NOX! Cleveland guitarist/vocalist Lamont Thomas has officially changed the name of his long running no-fi Afropunk / Hip-Hop hybrid Obnox to its longtime nickname NOX—and it makes sense. With almost a decade and a half behind him since he stepped out from behind the drum kit (he made his bones as the rhythmic spine for incendiary Ohio outfits like Bassholes and This Moment IN Black History), Thomas has grown well beyond the childish punk posture of valuing obnoxiousness for it’s own sake—as have many of us, right? Right? But we’ve ALL taken our share of knocks by now. Under the new name, Thomas is, for the first time ever, independently self-releasing his new album Iron Knowledge, the long-brewing follow-up to 2020’s sprawling, face melting, aggressively genre-agnostic 2xLP Savage Raygun, the damn near perfect album for the most messed up year of our lives. Iron Knowledge keeps forging ahead with Thomas’ heavy alloy of garage-punk, gospel, psych, soul, and electronics, enshrouded as always in a heavy dusting of Midwest rust. Slow-burners like “They Power” and “She Was a Bully” (respectively beat-doctored by acclaimed producers Aaron “a-live” Snorton of Muamin Collective and RA Washington of Mourning [A] Blkstar) feel laid-back even as they absolutely Seethe. On Iron Knowledge’s hip-hop-leaning side, “Most High (God Body)” avails NOX of the flow talents of guest rapper Maxwell Shell, while “Instant Extra” adorns left-field rap with an industrial edge. Cuts like “Cold Piece” and “Blow” deliver classically ominous NOX garage-soul, with detuned guitars bellowing like they’ve been set on fire—and at the end of the day, haven’t they? And the title track, side 1’s closer, positively Drips with heavy-lidded psych R&B, successfully synthesizing melanin and melatonin as it lends a menacing underground edge to the tradition of black psychedelia in ways that could make Sly himself proud.

Nathan Hose, known more commonly as N8noface, has built a heavy history behind his name. Known for his previous work with Crime Killz and a string of solo mixtapes, EP’s and collab projects, he comes out swinging to close out 2021 with “Homicide”. Both a full-length album of all new material and his debut Blackhouse release, N8 shows up with a catalog of raging synth-punk jams, knocked out with only a synthesizer, a computer, and the true-life humility and humanity only he can deliver. The dose of reality that lives within N8noface’s lyrics resonate with a population of people who have stayed true to themselves all the while feeling disenfranchised. People needing an outlet and something raw and new over a year and a half long pandemic (and counting) is the allure behind N8noface, and this record is sure to deliver that and more. Heaven is the culmination of many years hard work and careful consideration of all the modern methods of outsider and extreme music being funneled into one comprehensive overview of Japan’s underground culture as Klonns sees it. Since their 2016 inception, they have drawn inspiration not only from their allies in the punk/hardcore scene, but also their friends from other scenes such as techno, experimental music, industrial/noise, hip-hop, etc. A united creative community of forward thinking maniacs centered on pushing culture in a positive direction. The “new Wave OF Japanese Hardcore” has never sounded more necessary.

In the twenty or so years since his brainchild, The Dead Kennedys, officially disbanded, Jello Biafra has made a career of spoken word gigs interspersed with musical collaborations with some of the most compelling figures in underground music. Recording projects and touring with the likes of Melvins, NoMeansNo, DOA, Mojo Nixon, and Lard (with Ministry's Al Jorgensen) among others have kept his "punk as political weapon" message sharp, but the lack of his own band made these collaborations usually short-lived and left Biafra with a ton of songs that never saw the light of day. Inspired by The Stooges gig on Iggy Pop's 60th birthday in San Francisco, Biafra laid plans for his own 50th birthday party and finally decided it was time to start a band of his own. After cramming practices for a month, the four-piece dubbed themselves Jello Biafra and the Axis of Merry Evildoers! and featured Biafra, Ralph Spight (Victims Family, Freak Accident, Hellworms), Jon Weiss (Sharkbait, Horsey), and Billy Gould (Faith No More) The band took the stage in a sold-out two-night stand at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Flush from that exhilarating triumph, nine months of rehearsal and writing followed; they added ace guitarist Kimo Ball (Freak Accident, Carneyball Johnson, Mol Triffid, Griddle), and christened themselves Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine. The Audacity of Hype was produced by Biafra and engineered by hip hop producer and longtime co-conspirator Matt Kelley (Hieroglyphics, The Coup, Digital Underground, Victims Family, Tumor Circus) at Prairie Sun Recording in Cotati, CA, and San Francisco's Hyde Street Studios. The band's twin guitar attack retains some of the space-punk overtones and spy-music-on-meth chaos of The Dead Kennedys while adding a healthy dose of Detroit-style proto-punk flavored with Weiss' industrial excursions into metal percussion.

Musically constructed to capture the feel of a hip-hop album (Kenny Beats has also participated in programming on several tracks) the songs have a double language, mixing vitriolic sneers with a direct social comment on the band's past work. Not far below the surface of the slogan they gave themselves, is a deeply complex and brutally relevant album that chews clichés and spits them out in the form of great art for the masses. Active presence and self-acceptance are also at the heart of "Ultra Mono" whose most songs were written in the recording studio, and the phrase "I am I" serves as a lyrical and spiritual mantra. Ultimately "Ultra Mono" is a celebration of the community, the one on which IDLES has been striving to build itself since its beginnings, to form something bigger than itself. In the summer of 2021, the ArOzA Crew released the tune "Asphalt" as single. Shortly thereafter, the then still unknown band was perceived as a promising newcomer in the HipHop scene. Interviews were given with BET, Urban Vault UK, Puls, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the record label Expanded Art Records also got in touch to license the song for a 12inch vinyl. Instead of just one single song for a 12inch, the band offered EAR an entire EP with more songs from the time Asphalt was created and fitting remixes. For remixes, Flip from Texta and Maniac from the Demograffics were won over. Flip, a rap star in his country Austria, remixed the song "For Da Nation" which features London rapper Rece Miller. Maniac from the Demograffics, known for his work with Liquid, Dexter and the Tribez, did the remix work for the title song „Aspahlt“. Also on the EP the joint "Roswell Incident", a bomb by 90Wyse from Buffalo in the United States on which the ArOzA crew gave a feature. The 12-track EP is rounded off with the instrumentals of the songs and remixes.

What's Realness? Realness is a lifestyle, an attitude towards life. It is the essence of what HipHop's all about. Unfortunately this realness has been nearly completly lost in the last few years and is only rarely found in recent productions. One whack song followed by another is released to generate plays and to enter the charts. The Realness, the values, the art and the soul of this African American culture is being sold for some small change. Marlonhil is now stepping into the ring to revive HipHop with realness.
