Willy brought it in to the band right just as they were drifting away from that sound. My Blood Bleeds The Darkest Blue was inspired by those great Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood duets. It has a real desert feel to it but at the time the Delines were working on The Sea Drift which was set on the Gulf Coast. So both are songs that the band loved but songs that were left orphaned and they thought they better give them a proper home before they got lost along the way.

Habi, the owner of "ne" Records in Sweden receits ....My first encounter with Blitzkrieg Bop didn’t happen until the early 90’s, I was on the lookout for rare punk vinyl when I came across their first EP. Soon after I started to search desperately for all their records. I bought an unplayed copy of “Let’s Go” from Vinylshrine, little did I realize that the owner of Vinylshrine was John Hodgson aka Blank Frank, the singer with the band! I thought I had heard all the band had to offer but in 2013 a new compilation called “Live ‘77 & Beyond” came out on John’s own Opportunes label. I contacted him and was overjoyed to learn that there were a number of unreleased tracks, both live and studio, in good enough quality to merit another release. I really liked the songs I was sent and now we are here, with a new album called “The Usual Suspects.” With a bunch of previously unreleased tracks exclusive to this release, and a lavish gatefold sleeve and insert with many previously unseen photographs, together with a CD version of the album, this is an album you can really “Let Go and enjoy!”

Legend has it that The Blood were ‘discovered’ by Cockney Rejects vocalist Jeff ‘Stinky Turner’ Geggus on the top deck of a bus in Charlton. What they were all doing on the South East London bus has never been fully explained! Still, it was Jeff who introduced Coming Blood (as they were then known) to ‘Sounds’ journalist Garry Bushell and, suitably impressed, he offered them a spot on the fourth volume of the Oi! compilation series, “Oi! Oi! That’s Yer Lot”. It wasn’t just the Punk scene that took to the band, the more open minded in the Metal fraternity also embraced them, making them one of the first Punk-Metal crossover bands, equally at home with followers of the Anti Nowhere League or Motorhead. Though the initial career of The Blood may only have been brief, the two singles, 12” and album they released have all stood the test of time, many of the songs later covered by bands not even born when they were first recorded! Ten years ago, on 21 April 2014, Russian enclave of the Baltic Kaliningrad-based trio Blind Seagull started off its adventure in the soon to be known as Sovietwave aka Russian post-punk underground. Tean years later they have accomplished to release nine full-length albums on all sorts of limited edition formats such as LPs, CDs, tapes with most of them being sold out for years.

It was time to bring many of these tracks back to life, picking up the best among them and reissuing for the global post punk/darkwave niche. Fifteen cuts previously released by labels like Detriti, Sierpien, Pine Hill through which the band led by Denis Zarubin has shaped its own brand of icy coldwave, one pretty classic and extremely fresh and contemporary at once. On top of these we have one more track exclusive to this release which is a eurodance-oriented remix for their minor hit Animals Die in the Scaffolding. Propaganda Records, the oracle of its time, released the Maailma palaa ja kuolee EP when the band was still active, and some single tracks also appeared on Finnish and international compilations.

Bastards gained international attention and were the first Finnish hardcore band to tour Europe, yet they still ended up quitting the band in December 1983 after just a few active years. Svart Records have now put together all the recorded material by Bastards. Arctic Hardcore – Complete Studio Recordings & Rare Rehearsal Tapes -box set was done as a tight co-operation between the record company and members of the band. The nearly four-hour long compilation contains 136 songs, of which fifty are never released versions or completely unheard material, until now. The box set also contains a thick booklet with the band’s history, lyrics, complete song information and a lot of photos from the band’s active years.

Western Settings is punk rock band from San Diego, CA. Growing up in a vibrant musical environment in South London, Thorpe was deeply influenced by the eclectic sounds around him, from jazz-funk to Brit-Funk, and later, the post-punk records he discovered. As Thorpe recalls, "Post-punk was a mishmash of different cultures and ideas. Out of post-punk came dance music culture. That period was the most creative time because the culture was in its experimental phase." This compilation captures that innovative spirit, offering a glimpse into the era that shaped Thorpe's musical journey.

Emotional Rescue returns to what it does best by unearthing musical gems of the British post punk scene with a double pack compilation of Bristol's short lived Recreational Records. Teaming up with Bristol Archive Records, 10 songs are remastered, reissued and cut loud for DJs and collectors. What is most striking is, although created in the space of just two years, with a disparate collection of artists, musicians and producers coming together, the music holds a considerable cohesive sound. Set up in 1981 by Bristol based shop, Revolver Records, Recreational was formed as an independent label with its own distribution, as part of the co-operative, Cartel. The label was a natural progression from the shop's punk's DIY aesthetic, acting as a hang out and inspiration for local artists from Mark Stewart to later staff member, Daddy G. 'Get It Right' starts with a one-off project in Scream + Dance, who similarly, alongside local bands Glaxo Babies, Maximum Joy and Rip Rig & Panic, explored post-punk with funk and jazz all underpinned with heavy tribal and dub influenced rhythms. 'In Rhythm', with its infectious groove, acts as a call to arms for the compilation, coming in two parts, the latter dropping away to explore the links with dub. Next is possibly the label's biggest band in Talisman, going on to be active up to today, their release 'Run Come Girl / Wicked Dem' are both featured in long 12" mixes that explore the classic 'discomix' of vocal and dub in longform. Animal Magic lead with the pack's title, 'Get It Right' a short-driven punk funk burst that captures the label's sound to perfection. However, much of the compilation is given over to the more experimental side of the bands, with a high percentage the B sides where they headed to the mixing desk for echo chambered dub inspired versions. X-Certs' 'Untogether; Electric Guitars' 'Don't Wake The Baby' and Animal Magic's 'Trash The Blad' are culled from the flips of various 7" singles and all are a fusion of percussive rhythms, studio trickery and dub inspired techniques, played out against the "Do it Yourself" aesthetic of the time. To complete is London based, soukous, kwela and afrobeat inspired collective, Ivory Coasters' 'Mungaka Makossa' and two rhythmic curveballs by Scream + Dance in 'Giocometti Wicked Mix)' and their riotous (and short) closer, 'In Pink & Black'. "Get it right this time, get it right!".

Life behind the Berlin Wall, before the fall. Once there was DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik), otherwise known as East Germany. Verging on the ruins of the 2nd world war, in the fog of the socialist utopia, there was a widespread scene fighting against corporations and restrictions. Die neuen Bands, that was the manifesto, a number of small alternative bands facing the efforts of the post-punk (and even post-industrial) revolution. This was happening right after the English new wave or the Neue Deutsche Welle (the western counterpart). A musical resistance, a counterculture, spreading all over the country the clandestine way. An enduring dangerous strategy that brought to life many artistic figures, way ahead of their time. Such is the case of Frank Bretschneider (Stein im Brett, Kriminelle Tanzkapelle) still one oft he most prolific glitch producer (founder of the influential imprint Rastermusic), Ornament & Verbrechen the east-Berlin combo ran by brothers Ronald e Robert Lippok (To Rococo Rot) and Reinhard Lakomy a true innovator in the vein of Klaus Schulze. The ghost of an era, a social turmoil that eventually had an impact on our daily routine.

Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad musical genre that emerged in 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians moved away from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, adopting instead a broader, more experimental approach that included a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethos, but determined to break with rock clichés, artists experimented with styles such as funk, electronic music, jazz and dance music; dub and disco production techniques; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, film and literature. These communities have produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines. These three compilations are by no means 'Best Of' or collections of chart hits. They are compilations that endeavour (and we think they do well) to take a wide-ranging look at the UK and American post-punk scene in the years from 1978 to 1984, but here almost everything stops in 1981, giving space to bands and artists that almost always didn't make it beyond the 45 rpm mark. A representation of the true 'Outside of Everything' of the era.
