When Irish-born Count Vaseline / The Mighty Stef songwriter Stef Murphy met Stiff Little Fingers guitar tech Jamie Mechan in Nashville, Tennessee, it began a musical partnership of the highest order. After cranking out a few tunes at Mechan’s fledgling studio, 302 Sound, the duo started recruiting other musicians. The band was rounded out by drummer Ryan Sweeney (Cheap Time) and Eli Steele (Sweet Knives.) Dubbing themselves The Sleeveens, an Irish term for a trixter, the band got to work. After recording and releasing their highly-touted “Give My Regards To The Dancing Girls” 45rpm single on Sweeney’s Sweet Time Records, they finished off their eleven track debut album. The quartet were soon approached by longrunning punk label Dirtnap Records for the album’s 2024 release.

The resulting album is an homage to the kind of classic punk Chiswick, New Rose and Stiff Records were releasing forty-five years before The Sleeveens existed. With earworm melodies and screaming guitars, the foursome have crafted one of the best albums of the year. Murphy’s penchant for charmingly brilliant, matter-of-fact lyricism has a similar poetic quality as Mark E. Smith or Jonathan Richman. With expert mastering by Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs) to put the finishing touches on the sound, The Sleeveens is a record that is simultaneously uncompromisingly raw and thoughtfully crafted.

LA Sacree Grole is a tale by the Tamerantong company, set to music by Ludwig VON 88. Tamerantong! is a theatre company based in Mantes-la-Jolie, Paris-Belleville and Saint-Denis that puts on shows with children and young people from these neighbourhoods. Ludwig VON 88, road companions of the great hours of alternative rock (Bérurier Noir, Parabellum...) is also the only rock band capable of rhyming in ‘ong’. Tamerantong! had long been plundering their repertoire for their shows. In retaliation, the Ludwigs decided to compose the soundtrack to ‘La Sacrée Grôle’: a Gallic legend told and sung by twenty kids from Paris-Belleville. In the heart of the land of the Arvernes, reigns a valiant free people. Their village lies on the edge of a dreadful forest where no one ever ventures. But the time has come for all the peoples of Gaul to enter the fearsome forest and set off in search of the Sacred Pole! La Sacrée Grôle premiered at Paris-Belleville and was performed from 1996 to 1998 in Paris (Café de la Danse, Palace, Trianon, Café Éphémère / Les Halles), Mantes-la-Jolie, Briançon, Rouen (Festival Débarquement Jeunes) and Montreal/Quebec. This record, released for the first time on vinyl by the Archives de la Zone Mondiale label, includes 7 previously unreleased songs by Ludwig VON 88.

Hangtown is a post-apocalyptic spaghetti western surf rock band hailing from San Francisco. The music envisions a dust blown, post-apocalyptic world, and the sad and twisted stories from the inhabitants therein. If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or if Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail SIMP's mind. Gang activity started when moldy JOE (Celluloid Lunch, Itchy SELF...) enlisted fellow rhythm bro, TOM THA Moleanderthal (feeling Figures, Hélène Barbier band...) to make a perfect record in the Ides of corona March. A million Doll hairs and several rock bottoms later, the idea was to make something that would easily fall apart, this was executed with Montreal's best and brightest in the wings, lending a foot (all in the name of bogtime[sic] exposure). Bathroom-stall-wart and Barstool-smart Chrispy Burns (terminal Sunglasses, American Devices…) was brought in to add his patented 'racket roll' guit-o-rama. James "gogo" Goddard (skintone, Egyptian Cotton ARKESTRA...) skronked his reliable sax machine and the ticket was printed. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones were born, well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. Now to show for it, Reverberant Scratch is a 9 track ruckus of tinny guitar sketching, horn-honking deliberations, keyboardarific doodles, and whatever else one can summon in a basement to bang on. Gab De La Vega is a singer/songwriter with a punk and hardcore background. After years spent playing loud music and shouting into a microphone at the top of his lungs, he picked up an acoustic guitar to write heartfelt, sincere songs about anything he felt the urge to talk about.

Born in Brescia (Italy), Citizen of the World: he does everything to take his music wherever he can. Throughout the years he toured Europe extensively (more than 20 countries, including two UK tours) and he also hit the US East Coast, Canada (three times) and South America.

He played small shows and big shows, sharing the stage with artists such as Frank Turner, Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace, PUP, Chuck Ragan, Joey Cape, Tim Vantol, Kevin Seconds (7 Seconds), Austin Lucas, Ceremony, H2O and many more.

One of the first hardcore bands to come out of the North East of England; starting in 1982. The Fiend were well renowned for their loud hard hitting uncompromised sound which has been described as like throwing a "nail bomb into a crowded church" and a "live assault on the senses". This release compiles the five demos from the band's original run in the '80s. Some of the tracks were released as the "Stand Alone EP" in 1985 and the track 'What Future' featured on the "We Won't Be Your Fucking Poor" compilation on Mortarhate. It was 1992 when a hardcore band was formed in the tranquil town of Kassel: The Ryker's were born. A name that, even decades later (!), is familiar to anyone who is even remotely familiar with hardcore in general and the scene in Germany and Europe in particular. There was no getting around them, especially in the 90s. Massively influenced by the sound of the Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front and Sick of it All, the Ryker's gradually gained a foothold on larger stages in clubs and at festivals.

After the 1995 album First Blood, Germany was covered in dark blue hoodies with the Brother Against Brother print. Everyone knew the band. After various singles and LPs, a real masterpiece of an album was released in 1999: "Life's A Gamble... And So Is Death". The band was technically at their peak and in top form, with ultra-brutal groove, hard metal guitars and a really strong drumming that sets the pace for hard pits. Add to that the distinctive, deep and ultra-angry voice of Kid D. - to this day rarely achieved by other shouters. "Life's A Gamble" was released on Century Media Records, the only right step after the relevant experience with a major label. The label, which was still manageable at the time compared to today, offered the band exactly the right platform for this smash album. 18 songs, including 3 brilliant cover versions, make up a whopping 49 minutes. Almost an epic by HC standards. All killers – no fillers.

Of course there was also a vinyl version in 1999. This is now a sought-after rarity and has never been re-pressed. Why not? Well, then Noisy Plastics Records and Backbite Records are taking over at this point and are finally presenting you with a vinyl repress of this milestone almost 25 years later. The record will be released on December 20th, 2024 and collectors can look forward to chic colored vinyl editions and the legendary liquid-filled vinyl from “ Vinyl Manufaktur ”. This reissue was created under license from Century Media Records and in collaboration with the band.

For us, Nico and Mo, it's a real matter of the heart. Working on a repress of such a legendary LP is simply the best job in the world. 'nuf said.

Life behind the Berlin Wall, before the fall. Once there was DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik), otherwise known as East Germany. Verging on the ruins of the 2nd world war, in the fog of the socialist utopia, there was a widespread scene fighting against corporations and restrictions. Die neuen Bands, that was the manifesto, a number of small alternative bands facing the efforts of the post-punk (and even post-industrial) revolution. This was happening right after the English new wave or the Neue Deutsche Welle (the western counterpart). A musical resistance, a counterculture, spreading all over the country the clandestine way. An enduring dangerous strategy that brought to life many artistic figures, way ahead of their time. Such is the case of Frank Bretschneider (Stein im Brett, Kriminelle Tanzkapelle) still one oft he most prolific glitch producer (founder of the influential imprint Rastermusic), Ornament & Verbrechen the east-Berlin combo ran by brothers Ronald e Robert Lippok (To Rococo Rot) and Reinhard Lakomy a true innovator in the vein of Klaus Schulze. The ghost of an era, a social turmoil that eventually had an impact on our daily routine.
