From São Paulo, the largest metro area in the southern hemisphere, hails Point OF NO Return. Founded in 1996, this three-singer Brazilian band has long carried the vegan, straight-edge banner in the tropics, singing about political issues and playing a metallic, mosh-infused brand of hardcore. After releasing two albums, one EP, and extensively touring South America and Europe in the early 2000s, the band went on hiatus in 2006. At the point the band stopped playing, they had written nine new songs, which they planned to eventually record and release as a third album. However, life got in the way as members formed families and some moved away from São Paulo. Slowly, they began to progress toward finishing and recording the new songs: instruments were recorded in Brazil in 2017, lyrics were written between 2019 and 2024, and vocals were recorded between 2023 and 2024. The result is Point OF NO Return’s new album, The Language Of Refusal, whose title refers to hardcore punk as a transnational community, a form of art, and a means of expression for those discontent with the way things are. With songs addressing some of the most pressing issues today, such as deforestation and labor exploitation in the Amazon rainforest, the inequities of global warming, the rise of global conservative populism, and the challenges of organizing dissenting political movements, the album delivers these topics in a mix of late-’90s mosh core, SLAYER-esque riffs, gang vocals, and hints of Napalm Death.

After releasing the Cybergod/Lie Cycle 12” EP, Svart Records is set to continue reissuing the work of New York’s most legendary crust thrashers, Nausea. The band’s only full-length album, Extinction, was originally released in 1990 by Profane Existence in the US and Meantime Records in the UK. Now, Svart Records is proud to present this cult album with remastered sound, gatefold covers, booklet, and new album artwork taken from the poster included with the original pressing of the Extinction vinyl.

While Nausea’s timeline may not have been the longest, their influence on hardcore, punk, and crust is massive. Nausea elevated the game with the raging dueling vocals of Amy and Al, blending classic UK crust and anarcho-punk elements. Their sound echoes the rock’n’roll spirit of Discharge and Motörhead, alongside the epic metal-punk fusion reminiscent of Sacrilege and Slayer, all infused with a sociopolitical message and the experimental flair of Crass. Their lyrics depict a post-apocalyptic world akin to Amebix, with bleak themes, such as, "The world is growing weaker, with the passing of each day. Riding the west winds. The fetid stench of decay. Resources dwindle into the consumerist machine. As mechanical vultures pick the carcass of our world clean."

Speedily recorded in a small studio in Brussels, The Only Fun In Town was a defiantly abrasive, serrated long-player in the mould of the second Velvets album, Josef K having already shelved a more conventional recording. Sharp-edged pop singles abound – It’s Kinda Funny, Sorry for Laughing, Revelation – along with rattling Haig/Ross twin guitar classics such as Fun ‘n’ Frenzy, Heart of Song, Forever Drone and The Angle. The Only Fun In Town topped the independent charts on release and remains a canonical post-punk album. This remaster arrives housed in a handsome gatefold sleeve, and by way of bonus tracks also features several Postcard single A and B sides including Radio Drill Time and Chance Meeting. The Ruins' eponymous EP (also known as the “gray record”) was originally released in the late spring of 1984 and in fact represents a significant moment in the Italian independent music scene of the early 1980s. The then contemporary burgeoning wave of entertainment music contaminated by experimental accents and conveyed essentially by electronic instruments saw the Ruins at the forefront. The band, essentially a duo, formed in Mestre (Venice) in 1978, had already carved out a window of national attention within the Italian new wave in 1981 with their first single “Short wave” and their participation in one of the very first (if not the very first) Italian new wave compilations entitled “Samples Only.” Following this, between 1982 and 1983, there had been an important interlude in the evolution of the Ruins sound with the foundation of the quintet project (of which SPITTLE/DepenDance recently published an essential anthology titled “brain Flakes”). At the end of 1983, having concluded the group experience with the consequent and inevitable return to the original duo dimension the musical style further evolved putting even more emphasis on the unique blend of electronic sounds and almost black /soul influences of the new compositions that would later be collected in 1984 in the original version of E.P. The duo's sound at that particular time was characterized by the innovative use of synthesizers and drum machines for unconventional song structures, which at the same time also encapsulated Ciranna and Pizzin's experimental ethos, thus allowing them to follow a parallel trajectory capable of maintaining a certain distance - while remaining somewhat related to - from the contemporary mainstream pop and the so-called Italo disco strand. Ultimately, this 1984 EP by the Ruins - of which Spittle DepenDance now offers a valuable reissue enriched with additional material from the period that has remained completely unreleased until now - is a testament to the band's innovative spirit and its role in shaping the Italian new wave scene, landing moreover to international acclaim and acclaim even over the following decades. With its mix of electronic experimentation and dark pop sensibility, it remains essential listening for fans of avant-garde pop music.

More than 4 years after "Sculpture Of Violence," Giver from Cologne, Germany, announce their third album "The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation" for September 20, 2024, on End Hits Records. In recent years, Giver have not only refined their hardcore sound to be more brutal and atmospheric with elements of metal and post-punk, but thematically, it's clear that their new album serves as an even more drastic political manifesto. Capitalism, culture wars, the climate crisis, and their societal implications and consequences are central themes on "The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation." Giver critique the prevailing neoliberalism and its ongoing agitation for the uncompromising pursuit of happiness and satisfaction. The band explains: "What neoliberalism has established is a lonely place. Its driving force is the individualized pursuit of constant fulfillment, altering the way we interact with each other. Whatever we do to achieve satisfaction, there's always a lingering sense of something missing. Happiness and contentment are never the goal; they've been replaced by profit margins and excess. These are endless and extremely unevenly distributed. Anger arises in this vacuum. With this album, we want to remind that it's the economic conditions and inequalities that should be the target of our collective frustration. They create depression, despair, and a downward spiral. Being anti-fascists is not enough; we must also be anti-capitalists." This anger is also reflected musically in the furious 11 new tracks. Filled with powerful guitar riffs and sometimes bilingual lyrics, some of the songs also introduce a new, deep style of spoken word for Giver, making the eventual eruptions that much more impactful. Though he only released a few singles (on the legendary independent labels Bus Stop & Parasol) and the classic 1993 album “Sandbox” (recorded with a cast of friends that included Adam Schmitt, Patrick Hawley, Jay Bennett, Steve Scariano and Nick Rudd), Erik Voeks’ music has resonated deeply with a small but dedicated group of pop and powerpop fans around the world. “Lost treasure,” “hidden gem” are expressions often used to describe “Sandbox,” which is now, for the first time in its 30th anniversary, being reissued on vinyl by Hanky Panky Records along with a CD that brings together 8 demos of the album, his two singles for the Bus Stop label and a previously unreleased original track, “Pristine”. For years Erik kept a low profile, but never stopped recording music, playing with friends like The Octopus Frontier, or even touring the United States and Europe with Jon Dee Graham. In late 2012, Spring Records released a 4-song EP titled “Free Range” on vinyl, which received rave reviews. Since then, Erik has kept busy putting out more new recordings through his bandcamp page, playing live shows, and touring Spain a couple of times. In 2016, Hanky Panky released “So The Wind Won't Blow It All Away” his first full-length album in over 20 years. The album garnered much critical acclaim and was the #1 album of the year on John Borack's influential “Power Pop Plus List.” After touring Spain in 2017 as Erik Voeks & The Spanglish Settlement, Erik, Juan Ferrari, Pepe Bermejo, and Patrick Hawley decided to record an album together. Plans were made for the four of them to reunite in Spain to finish the album, but the pandemic interfered and the recording process took a long and winding road. But better late than never, as they say: “It Means Nothing To Me Now” was finally released in early 2024 under the Erik Voeks & The Ghosters moniker.. “Pure pop magic,” says the Powerpopaholic website, and who are we to disagree?

Naoki, who shares the same hometown as Tank and Oumi, has joined as a new guitarist. Additionally, Gucci, the guitarist from Hiroshima rock band "red in Blue" and a support member for "YOASOBI," has also joined the lineup. With the return of second-generation drummer Oumi, the newly reformed Gudon is now a five-member band, releasing their first new material!

The single opens with a re-recording of "Twin Tail" from their 1984 debut cassette "Fushuu," followed by a powerful new version of "stoice Violence" from their 1986 first single "Hige Shibou." The new song "Against Stupid Law," a speed thrash number by new member Tank, recalls the glory days of Outo while proving that Gudon is still evolving. Gucci’s new track "shame ON YOU!" updates Gudon for the Reiwa era, showcasing the potential of a new hardcore sound.

GUY, now on vocals instead of bass, channels his rage against issues like the Gaza massacre and the revised Japanese Immigration Control Act. Side Two closes with previously unreleased studio tracks from 1992 - virtually unheard until now, we believe these final three tracks to be amongst their best. The songs now sound as the band intended all the way back in 1988. Rather than ‘writing for the new album’ or rehearsing to get ready for tour, we went back to the basement every year. Long traded and coveted, discussed and debated, Propeller Product’s 1981 cassette compilation finally receives a physical release reflecting its original intention and aim. And this is its Boston origin story: a small collective with a DIY artistic bent, Propeller launched in 1981. Founded as a collaborative taking inspiration from Factory Records and the “pay no more” ethos of Dischord Records and Crass, Propeller offers a unique window into Boston and the American post-punk underground. Led by Justin Burrill, Michael Cudahy, and Steve Gregoropoulos, alongside a constellation of curious cohorts, Propeller hoped to move beyond Boston’s bluesy bar rock, to say nothing of its nascent hardcore scenes. The Allston-based Propeller bands explored a more angular and inventive musical space. “Propeller wanted a unified aesthetic,” Cudahy recalls. “I remember having a meeting where we spent over an hour deliberating what typeface to use. I wanted to release a compilation of bands I thought weren’t being done justice.” Existing concurrently with the brawny hardcore acts emerging from the Bay State, Propeller’s influences, execution, and intent offered a 180-degree turn from the alpha male Boston Crew. By contrast, “Punk rock was a refuge,” Cudahy says about his fellow Propeller artists, but just “two years after punk happened and hardcore came along in Boston, it was like, ‘Hey you were the guys who beat me up for being punk and now you’re in a band!’ Propeller was the weird offshoot species.” Propeller’s practice space occupied the very same building as Gallery East, where many Boston hardcore bands played. This was also the location where most of the Prop 4-1 tape was recorded. Boston’s offshoot species had found its voice. Upon release Propeller’s cassette-only compilation hit a monumental snag. Because of a manufacturing error almost all of the Propeller Product cassettes were defective, screeching in rotation and making the music largely inaudible. Even the deluxe edition that came with a 24-page cut-and-paste collage booklet housed in an oversized polybag didn’t sound right. Propeller had the music, the artwork, and the vision, but manufacturing, materials, and logistics all failed Allston, until now. Carefully restored and remastered by Massachusetts's Bob Weston (Chicago Mastering Service), Lawrence Wilmington’s debut release presents the original 18 songs on 180-Gram double LP for the first time and features reworked artwork taken from the deluxe booklet. 450 copies, full-color gatefold includes download.

Warning! was the only studio recorded document from the amazing hardcore band, The Latin Dogs, from Battle Creek, Michigan. This EP was released in 1982 and has never had a legitimate reissue until now. This remastered record is a perfect time capsule of punk becoming hardcore and original copies sell for several hundred dollars. This self-produced effort easily compares to the early hardcore punk released on Dischord Records or Touch and Go Records. From the ashes of some very seminal undiscovered punk bands such as the Brain Police, The Lips are Back, and The Itch, came The Latin Dogs. The band’s sole record was a DIY project paid for by the earnings of live performances. In those days it took many shows to get enough cash to pay for a pressing of a 7" record. It was recorded on a 4 track reel to reel and the sleeves were printed by a shady print shop that went out of business during the pressing, and the band had to break into the building to pick up the half-finished printed sleeves. This record put their early Political stance at attention. The power of a Marshall stack and Gibson SG backed by a Fender P bass with Ampegs at full volume, driven by a thin, wiry straight ahead drummer, fueled by a Jack Daniels drenched rebellious singer, gave this band a unique hardcore sound that was still reminiscent of an earlier punk sound. This powerful band, with two 6-foot guitarists, sandwiched a cocky, political, savvy singer who was not afraid of bold and precise statements. The Latin Dogs were deflected and rejected from popular punk circles, yet remained influential enough to carve out their own fan base in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and east Lansing. They played on shows with bands like: Big Boys, Die Kreuzen, Negative Approach, Tar Babies, Channel 3, Violent Apathy, Destroy All Monsters, and others. The Latin Dogs were ahead of their time, but also a bit ignored by their peers. Six song EP with double-sided insert, limited to 550 copies.

We’ve been working on this one for a while and it does not disappoint! We initially planned on doing a one sided cassette for a single long track. The band brought us 2 crushing and engaging works of force and finesse that are a never tiring 16+ and 20+ minutes each. We were so moved we decided there was no course, but to also offer it up on vinyl. In addition to producing their usual brand of pissed-off Metal/Hardcore, the members of Dissolve have always dabbled in playing strange improvisational music. A few years back, the band started recording their rehearsals in an attempt to bring something tangible back from these sonic excursions into the far-out, deep space that they would travel to together. Burnt is the recorded artifact of these explorations and features two of Dissolve’s heaviest, and longest, songs ever. 'Shot Rocks' and 'Sunshine' crush the listener with the brutal, down-tuned riffs and raving, street prophet vocals that people would expect from Dissolve, but then they also take a lot of unexpected twists and turns into blotter acid territory. The songs go deep into shadow realms of ambient whispers and electronic whirs that lead to gonzo guitar solos and bursts of noise. There’s a lot of wild sounds going on during these songs. The record saw the light on the legendary Contagio Records and was a furious example of the contemporary attack to the system. Eleven tracks in total with three of them previously appeared on "Subject To Blackout," a cultish American tape compilation (with early Offspring, Excel and Attitude Adjustment). Tony Thorpe presents Postpunk Theory - Alpha ? is a meticulously curated compilation by the legendary Tony Thorpe, known for his work with The Moody Boys, 400 Blows, and The KLF. These classic tracks were played at parties by Thorpe at the time, making them his personal classics. The compilation features 16 rare and sought-after tracks from the post-punk era, including works by Mark Stewart and The Maffia, Basement 5, 23 Skidoo, African Headcharge, and more.

Growing up in a vibrant musical environment in South London, Thorpe was deeply influenced by the eclectic sounds around him, from jazz-funk to Brit-Funk, and later, the post-punk records he discovered. As Thorpe recalls, "Post-punk was a mishmash of different cultures and ideas. Out of post-punk came dance music culture. That period was the most creative time because the culture was in its experimental phase." This compilation captures that innovative spirit, offering a glimpse into the era that shaped Thorpe's musical journey.

The album comes as a limited 2xLP set, accompanied by an extensive 40-page fanzine. The fanzine, written by Matt Annis (Join The Future), dives deep into the post-punk movement, offering insight and context enriched with striking photographs by Simon Pyke and Ian Brodie.

Satya Sai Maitreya Kali aka Craig Smith was a successful singer-songwriter in Hollywood who wrote songs for the Monkees, Andy Williams, and Glen Campbell. With the royalties from his songwriting, Smith embarked on the famed Hippie Trail and somewhere along the way lost his mind to LSD. When he returned to the United States, Smith became highly introverted, filled with visions of grandeur, eventually getting a spider tattooed on his forehead. He would rename himself “Maitreya Kali” and record, compile, and custom-press these two LPs Apache / Inca documenting his musical journey from 1967-72, including tracks with the Penny Arkade. Combined into a double album set, Apache / Inca was given away or sold hand to hand on the street before Maitreya… and Craig… disappeared into the shadows. “Ice and Snow,” in particular, is a hauntingly beautiful song that captures a deeply lonesome feeling with its empty sounding reverb.

Songs To Scream At The Sun was recorded with Kurt Ballou of Converge at GodCity Studio. Combining Ballou’s signature grit and style of recording with Have HEART’s style of music results in a dichotomy of clean, sharp drums, and a variety of guitar tones and sounds when combined, does not hint at one particular or obvious influence. Musically, there are moments which are mid-tempo and melodic, there are moments that are classic hardcore anthems, and it’s balanced with times which are dark and atmospheric. It’s an impressive accomplishment. As frontman Pat Flynn said, Songs To Scream At The Sun is the coming of age story. It’s about the growing process of a young kid shaking the chains of selfishness, but it’s everything about what you lose and gain in that process of growing up. The songs have an honest, yet poetic reflection that digs deep into the private lives that are shared by everyone-the deconstruction and dismantling of one’s life and the eventual rebuilding and rebirth. This is at times dark and depressing, but Flynn’s lyrics never lose hope in what allows people to get strength in these situations. And what’s so strong about the performance and lyrics, aside from the cliché of hardcore singers “meaning what they say,” is that the perception of the lyrics (are they dark, depressing, positive, or hopeful?) is up to the listener to decide.

Hear the brutal anguish and aural suffering! LG Records has gathered out-of-print and unreleased recordings by two of San Diego’s more infamous and obscure punk bands from the very early 1990’s onto one blistering split LP.

Often remembered merely as side-projects of Heroin and End of the Line, Sloog (aka Slug) and Brain Tourniquet were standalone outfits that were beloved locally but barely made any impact outside of the local San Diego scene. Sloog were heavy, tortuous, and disturbing. Fronted by mysterious and odiferous local character “Justinman”, Sloog sounded like they could have been the lovechild of Savage Republic and United Mutation. Brain Tourniquet were a younger thrash band who were noticeably inspired by contemporaries like Born Against and Crossed Out. Primitive and sublime, members went on to bigger things, but this was the not-so-humble beginning.

The first release for each band was the 1991 Slug/Brain Tourniquet split cassette, released as Gravity Records #0. Copies of this tape were sold at local shows and during Brain Tourniquet’s west coast tour with Heroin. Sloog would record multiple demos in 1990 and 1991, and in the end they recorded what became their only vinyl release, 1992’s Pigs 7”. The material on this LP was pulled together from all of these recordings.

Spectre comes from Como, a small town in the north of Italy, just a few inches away from Switzerland. Born as Croutons in 2013, they recorded three records with that monicker, “Possible Mood Disorder” (lp) in 2014, a 7” in 2016 and a CD, “Murmuring Voices” in 2018. The Twerks started in Sesto San Giovanni, on the outskirts of Milan, in 2013, with members coming from previous bands of the same area. You felt it might all fall apart any second but it rarely did. After their "cassette in a tube" ploy worked for John Peel play, the band released a cassette on InPhaze and disbanded not long after. Collected here is a rediscovered gem showcasing the zest and spontaneity that gripped the UK DiY scene of the time, standing up to their contemporaries like TELEVISION PERSONALITIES, THE HOMOSEXUALS and MARINE GIRLS. First time release with all the songs recorded from this seminal Spanish band. Replica for cover and inside art work. 180 gram vinyl. Espasmódicos were formed in the Malasaña council, Madrid in the first days of 1981. J. Siemens (guitar), Kike (voice) and CSG71 (bass) were the first line-up, completed when Carlos Torero joined them as a drummer. Influenced by the first punk-hc bands coming out but also for some hard-rock elements, soon the first tracks were composed and then, in 1982, the mighty DRO label released their first 7" called "Recomendado para molestar a su vecino", featuring 3 songs that are one of the seminals steps into punk in this country. They had a guest on the person of Karlox from Polansky y El Ardor at the saxophone, something very weird in the bands of that first punk wave. Since the 7" was released the band started to be well known and they went to some Spanish TV shows to promote their work. Carlos Torero decided to leave the band and a studio-session drummer joined in the person of Carlos de Yebra. In 1983 the band recorded their last songs: first they registered the mighty tracks that went on to the great compilation "Punk, qué punk?" released by DRO. This songs were "Tía, vete a cagar" and a free cover-version from Sex Pistols called "Belsen was a gas", something that pointed the band to a weird status as the lyric was something into Nazism or fascism, something that the band never were. The second studio session for that year (and the last ever for the band) was to register their maxi-single "Espasmódicos", five songs together with the great art-work done by J. Siemens and Kike Kruel, very similar to the Crass's stuff and so. Beat Generation, absolutely fan of the band, is more than proud to release this LP with all their discography, together with a replica of the art-work.

Working on a deadline this time around, the album was written and recorded in less than a year. The expediency of recording served the quartet well, as Obscene Daydreams delivers in abundance, The Last Gang's signature mix of melodic hooks and raw feelings. While outrage and defiance figure prominently in those feelings, love and pride share center stage. Opener “Electric Avenue” is an ode to ride-or-die friendship, and “Madness” is a full-on love song (or as close to one as a “nihilistic optimist” like singer Brenna Red can deliver). “Berlin to Rome” celebrates life on the road, and “Rumors” finds Red flexing her no-bullshit self-confidence. An interaction with a bigoted fan inspired “The Others,” forcing Red to make clear the quartet’s Lgbtqia+ allyship. The authenticity of The Last Gang's music lies in these lived experiences, making each album a kaleidoscopic journal of sorts. For starters, don't let the name fool you, this is Richmond, VA—not L.A. Coinciding with the beginning of the 1980s, the spread of punk's mutation into the harsher exertion known as hardcore punk began to spill across the continental United States. The music was becoming harder and faster, straying from the style and formula that some of the younger participants were starting to grow bored of and Richmond was no exception to this phenomena. Following the 1981 implosions of local punk groups MOD Subs and Disruptors, the illustrious Mike Rodriguez formed RED Cross alongside friends Frank Gresham, Scott Price and Alford Faulkner. Their mission: to create and play hardcore punk adhering to the motto of "loud Fast Rules" and they did just that! The next year or so saw the band leaving a trail of broken glass and harshed mellows throughout the greater metropolitan Richmond area, to put it lightly. In early 1982, the boys entered Studio 2 at Union Theological Seminary under the cover of night to record 12 tracks that were intended to be the band's debut 12". Alas, as bands tend to do, they eventually broke up due to internal conflicts, which led to the almost immediate formation of Richmond legends White Cross; arguably the final form of Mikey Rod's drive to create fast, hard and ugly music." “artificial Peace lasted barely a year, but in that short time managed to become a leading band in the early DC hardcorepunk scene. Pete Murray had played in the short-lived RED C while Mike Manos, ROB Moss and Steve Polcari were in a band called Assault & Battery. Towards the end of 1981 they formed A.P. and began playing around town. They were tight, fast, and aggressive, prerequisites for most of the DC bands of the time, but also had a unique sound and surprisingly catchy songs. I loved the band and offered to record them at Inner Ear Studios. In November 1981 the studio was still a 4-track in the basement of DON ZIENTARA’s family house. The ‘live’ room was actually his children’s playroom, and the mixing desk and tape machine were set up next to the furnace in what could be described as spacious closet. A.P. knocked out their 17 songs in almost no time. I think we recorded, mixed, and sequenced the tape in two or three days and were very happy with the results. There may have been some discussion about putting a few of these songs on a 7” EP, but at that time all of the label’s resources had been put into releasing Flex Your Head, our first full-length album. FYH was a compilation documenting the DC punk scene and since A.P were one of the great young bands coming up at that time, we included three songs from their session. There never was an opportunity to do anything with the other 14 songs as Dischord was poor and, like many of the bands in DC at that time, A.P. was not long for this world. However, before breaking up in the latter half of 1982, A.P. recorded again at CAB studios in Rockville, MD and released those recordings on a split 7” (w/The Exiled). This was the fi rst release on the Fountain of Youth label. After A.P. disbanded, Pete, Steve, and Mike started playing with Kenny Inouye and Andre LEE to form Marginal MAN. That band would release a 12” on Dischord as well as two full-lengths on Gasatanka and Giant respectively and continued playing for seven years. While working on the Dischord Archives, we came across the Artificial Peace November 81 session and decided that the tape should be finally and properly released in its entirety. Artificial Peace may well be an obscure band, but their effect on the DC scene was signifi cant and played a sure role in the evolution of the music.”—Ian MacKaye, 2010
