Zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum erstmals auf Vinyl Irgendwann vielleicht 2010 sind sich Moritz Krämer und Francesco Wilking zum ersten Mal in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg über den Weg gelaufen, nachdem sie einen (weiten) Steinwurf voneinander aufgewachsen waren und ein paar Jahre in Freiburg nebeneinander hergelebt hatten. Wahrscheinlich machte es sowas wie Zoom, Klick oder Klonk, denn es genügte ein sanfter Schubs von ihren Konzertagenturen und die beiden standen gemeinsam auf der Bühne, begleiteten sich gegenseitig und sangen zweistimmig. Das war 2011 im Societaetstheater Dresden und Francesco und Moritz fassten auf der Rückfahrt von dort schon viele zukünftige Auftritte und eine dystopische Rockoper ins Auge. Die Konzerte wollten sie mit Freund*innen spielen, das erste mit Gisbert zu Knyphausen in Halle, das zweite mit Judith Holofernes in Berlin. Danach ließen sie die Gastsänger*innen weg, spielten aber weitere Shows mit den anderen Livemusikern der ersten Shows: Max Schröder am Schlagzeug, der damals noch mit einem Bein bei Tomte war und Felix Weigt am Bass, der für Spaceman Spiff alle Instrumente spielte und bei den tollen Kid Kopphausen mitmachte. Wir wissen nicht mehr wann die Frage fiel: "Sind wir jetzt eine Band?", aber es muss irgendwann im Prozess der Aufnahmen zur EP "Unzufrieden" gewesen sein. Dort hört man zwar noch den Feature-Ansatz - Gisbert und Judith singen auf "Vergangenheit" - aber vor allem hört man zum ersten Mal den Sound der Höchsten Eisenbahn: Ein-Finger-Casio, Chorus Gitarren, Pluckerbass, Rasseln und Handtuch auf der Snare. Dazu Geschichten von Losern namens Jan und anderen Leuten die zwischen jung und alt und Nacht und Tag ihre Anschlusszüge verpassten. Es ist 10 Jahre her, aber ein paar Sachen vergisst man nicht. Wie, dass sie eine ganze Nacht Chöre aufgenommen haben für "Die Uhren am Hauptbahnhof", nur um sie morgens aus Versehen zu löschen. Oder dass Felix einige signature Keyboard-Lines im Liegen eingespielt hat. Das Schreiben der Songs und Aufnehmen ging ziemlich schnell, wie das Coverfoto mit dem Handy im Hof vom Proberaum. Die vier wussten, dass sie auf jeden Fall mehr Platten machen und Konzerte spielen wollten. Es folgten drei bunte Alben mit großen kleinen Songs und award winning live-Shows, aber so leicht ging ihnen nie wieder etwas von der Hand wie diese erste EP.

TAL delves deep into the very beginnings of Düsseldorf's post punk scene of the early 1980s. Stumm was the duo of Detlef Funder and Bernd Sevens who both would become pivotal figures in the tape underground movement of West-Germany, when they launched the SDV label in 1986. Individually they went on to produce boundary defying works as Konrad Kraft and Seventh Day respectively. The material on this album was recorded by Funder and Sevens quite casually in 1980 in a rehearsal studio in the centre of Düsseldorf. The recordings still have a uniquely dizzying quality and are somewhat of a basic blueprint for a lot of industrial/techno and post punk which was about to loom in all corners of the world.

In addition to a remaster of the original Up The Bracket album, produced by Mick Jones (The Clash), the Super Deluxe Edition also includes a remarkable 65 previously unreleased recordings including many original demos, radio sessions and live recordings all helping to chart the making of Up The Bracket, plus a live recording from the 100 club in 2002. It also contains a 60 page book with a forward by Matt Wilkinson, new interviews with the band by Anthony Thornton and many unseen photos and memorabilia. Up The Bracket arrived like a raging bull in a tired post-Britpop china shop and introduced the world to The Libertines, a new gang of London bohemians, whose ragged tunes, red military tunics, opiated poetry and ‘live now pay never’ lifestyle came to define the millennial angst of the early noughties. At the heart of the band is the blood bond bromance between the ramshackle Music Hall Jagger/Richards, Peter Doherty and Carl Barat, ably assisted by the rock solid rhythm twins John Hassall and Gary Powell. Any bookie worth his salt would have given you short odds on this quartet surviving more than a month or two, given the teetering on the brink lifestyle they chose to lead, but here we are two decades later and our Byronic heroes, though older and wiser, are still fighting the good fight and making music every bit as vital as their debut. The belief, talent and fervour that Doherty spoke of in their earliest manifesto has stood them in good stead. Add to that tally the extra singles, b-sides, EPs, compilations and tribute songs they've recorded, creating a succinct setlist is a nearly impossible task. Foothills was recorded in Spring 2018 at a country retreat pop-up studio. At that time, 15 songs were captured and immortalised in the Canterbury foothills of the Southern Alps, Aotearoa (New Zealand). Only too well, The Bats know the possibilities, potentialities and sonic vistas that arise when one takes the reins for the recording process in a beautiful place that's on home turf. Robert Scott, on the making of Foothills has said "Time marches on... finally, we found a gap in our busy lives and chose a week to convene. We found a house that is usually inhabited by ski field workers _ Kowai Bush, near Springfield about an hour west of Christchurch and of course nestled in the foothills of the mighty Southern Alps. The songs had been written, demo'd and arranged for some time, but still with a little room for trying things out in the studio. Many carloads arrived at the house, full of amps guitars and recording gear, we set up camp and soon made it feel like home; coloured lights, a log fire, and home cooked meals in the kitchen. We worked fast, and within a few days had all the basic backing tracks done, live together in one room, the way we like to do it - it's all about `the feel' for songs like ours." The Bats must hold a record in New Zealand (perhaps the whole world, once The Rolling Stones throw in the towel) as a band that has survived with the same line-up for 38 years. No split ups, no reforming for nostalgia's sake. So far, half the band have spots in The New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame, vocalist/ guitarist Robert Scott (The Clean) and bassist/producer Paul Kean (Toy Love), and it's only a matter of time before lead guitarist Kaye Woodward and drummer Malcolm Grant find themselves in there too. The four-piece has created twisted wistful folk, psychedelic rock, bouncy twee pop, and everything in between, but whatever the genre, their sound is always distinctively, unmistakably The Bats.

CURTAINS is the eighth solo album by JOHN FRUSCIANTE. It was first released on February 1, 2005, originall perceived as an lo-fi home recording record but the sonically elevated by contributions from AUTOLUX drummer CARLA AZAR, upright bassist KEN WILD, and THE MARS VOLTA guitarist OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ. Frusciante's increasing comfort as a vocalist during this prolific spell is what is most notable here. One needs to look no further than the beauty of "Anne" for evidence. But Curtains is the sum of its parts. Nearly always inventive, the 11 tunes here collect to form one magnificent piece of art. The guitarist, singer, composer and producer Frusciante may be best known as guitarist of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS (1988 until 1992, 1998 until 2009 and again since 2019). He recorded six plus studio albums with them and was inducted into the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME. Frusciante has an active and succesfull solo career, having released many albums and EPs, his solo recordings include elements ranging from experimental rock and ambient music to new wave and electronica. Reissue of the original album in its entirety, plus three additional rare tracks taken from Moon Duo's wild early days. Reflecting on the album in March 2020, the band shared the following statement: "We made this record in a rehearsal space in San Francisco in late 2009. It was kind of a classic band space, shared by a rangy assortment of musicians over months and years, behind one of several similar doors in a dark red hall. A windowless room lit by string lights and an odd assortment of lamps, the walls a palimpsest of posters and gig fliers. There was a grimy, burn-pocked rug, cluttered gear in various stages of use and abandonment, and the air seemed to hang in a permanent film of smoke residue and stale beer. We recorded to a 4-track tape machine over the course of a few nights - we'd just start the beats, hit 'record' and let fly. We had a vague sense of coalescence, or fomentation, like a glimpse of a thing in outline which you can't yet see, but neither of us knew at the time that this was the record that would mark the beginning of our life as a touring band and would initiate our connections to so many (now long-time) friends, familiars and collaborators. Ten years feels like both a lifetime and the blink of an eye - measurable but impossible to quantify. These four tracks, and the others that join them here, are a snapshot of our earliest incarnation: flying blind, but high on the freedom of experimentation and filled with hope for things to come. 'Escape' was originally released on Woodsist in 2010. 'A Little Way Different' taken from the Welcome Home: Diggin' the Universe comp on Woodsist. 'Catch As Catch Can' and 'Set It On Fire' taken from a 2010 7-inch on Agitated Records.

Returning with their first new music in a decade, Kings of Convenience today announce their forthcoming album, ‘Peace or Love’, out 18th June on EMI Records.

The gentle power of ‘Rocky Trail’ makes it clear that the band have lost none of their skill or emotional eloquence since they last recorded together. Lilting acoustic melodies are accompanied by violin and the pair’s distinctive dual-vocal approach to create something both subtle yet evocative. The contemplative lyrics deal with ideas of perception and regret.

The band also announce their return to British shores with two live shows at the Royal Festival Hall on the 26th of September 2021 (afternoon matinee and an evening show.)

Eirik Glambeck Boe and Erlend Oye met at school in Bergen, Norway and first performed together in the rock band Skog before breaking off and forming a duo in 1999. The pair established themselves as inadvertent trailblazers of a new wave of intimate, acoustic music. They’ve released 3 critically acclaimed albums, toured all around the world and cultivated a dedicated fanbase.
