Housekeeping is the new solo album from multi-instrumentalist, poet, novelist and translator Pedro Carmona-Alvarez, who releases his music under the name Moonpedro and The Sinking Ship. Since 2007 he has released five records, Ed Wood (2007), Homegrown (2013), Let´s, Pig (2018) The Beatles Revisited (2018), and KIN (2023). The album title refers to the fact that Pedro Carmona-Alvarez has written and recorded ridiculously many songs that are scattered across his computer - unfinished, half-finished, and almost finished. After turning 50 in 2022, he decided to start letting go of things, releasing them, making them exist in the world, and not just inside his own head. “I’ve always been productive, loving to work a lot and make a lot of crap. Not so good at finishing things, though. But now is the time”, he says. Pedro Carmona-Alvarez was also the singer of Sister Sonny, who released several albums between 1995 and 2007. As a writer, his books are translated to several languages, such as English, German, Danish, Turkish and Czech. He is also translator from Spanish and English, and in 2015 he was handpicked by PJ Harvey to translate her book of book of poems The Hollow of The Hand to both Norwegian and Spanish. 1. After only a handful of gigs, Misty signed a deal with Parlophone and began to gather momentum with the release of Hot Cinnamon. Although they received a lot of airplay, the single failed to chart and the band’s hopes of releasing their debut album were dashed. Reluctantly, Misty went their separate ways and the Here Again master tapes sat gathering dust on a shelf until Gelardi came across the original acetate and decided it was time for the album to finally see the light of day.

Bridging late psych and early prog, songs like Life Has Just Begun, Witness For The Resurrection and the title track were played with a perfect mix of high-flying experimentation and virtuosic musicianship. Blurring the fine lines between rock, jazz, classical and chamber pop, Here Again is a transcendent kaleidoscope of colour that is beyond definition.

One of those bands forever in between. Too pop for punks, too punk for pop. Too clean for garage nostalgia, and too weird for Americana. Hard to classify, their sound is a mixture of Sixties Beatles-esque melodies, sunshine-pop atmospheres, punk attitude, country, rhythm and blues, surrounded by dreamy landscapes, folk-revival lyricism and sometimes even bordering on psychedelia. All the records they grew up with, or bought during their travels, are in the cocktail. 'Storms', their brand new full-length record, is a step forward to this brave non-concept concept. A labor of DIY, recorded by their former drummer Brown Barcella and Alessio Lonati, produced and mastered by their best friend Riccardo Zamboni and released on their own Wild Honey Records.

A key funk release from 1971, For The People was the 2nd album by interracial soul-rock band led by vocalist Milt Matthews. All the way from Wilson, North Carolina, Milton Ray Matthews was an inspired songwriter in the vein of master Curtis Mayfield and follower Lou Bond. With a series of excellent cover version – BB King ‘The Thrill Is Gone’, The Beatles ‘A Hard Days’ Night’ (stylistically related to the acid r&b Stax records was in charge at the time) and Blind Faith ‘Presence Of The Lord’ - the record is full of acid-blues chops and sensuous numbers. Filling the gap between modern psychedelia and afro-american consciousness, 'For The People' literally ascend to the title of black tinged rock opera.

Out July 26th on Don Giovanni Records, Waxbuilt Castles is the second full-length solo album by New Jerseys Mikey Erg. As the drummer and principal songwriter in The Ergs! and at least a dozen other bands, Erg has as sturdy a set of pop-punk bona fides as youre likely to find. Waxbuilt Castles is a departure, though. Recorded in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Alex Clute -- who performed with Erg in The Chris Gethard Shows house band -- its a set of songs that takes its central inspiration from the melodicism and craft of 70s pop rock. In their production and arrangement, the songs emulate Ergs pre-punk musical heroes -- ELO, Elvis Costello, Phil Ochs, and especially the Beatles. I really wanted to make my version of Paul McCartneys first record, explains Erg. Homemade and very loose. Not too overthought. Getting there took a bit of adjustment on Ergs part. As a singer, he had to reconcile with hearing his voice in a quieter and more vulnerable context. It was funny to have to rethink the way I sang a lot of the songs, says Erg. Alex would say, Youre singing too forcefully, calm it down a bit. I had to get used to hearing my voice without this white noise behind it, masking it. Lyrically, though, its a Mikey Erg record through and through. Theyre the same type of songs that Ive been writing forever -- about relationships. Juts simple, personal songs, says Erg. Thats the through line, I feel. No matter what the record sounds like, its the same exact songs that Ive been doing. Its the thing that Im most proud of. That I can make a different sounding record, but that it still goes together. That is can all fit in the same box.

Mike Etten is a songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. One of the founders of the Brooklyn DIY venue and collective Le Wallet, Etten recorded and played in various experimental, chamber, punk and country projects throughout the last decade, including PC Worship, Ashcan Orchestra and Dougie Poole. Amidst extensive touring and performing, Etten started writing his long-awaited solo debut, Love Wash, a twisted slice of fringe Americana, composed of carefully crafted and self-recorded song experiments that are equally catchy and off-kilter… Love Wash has echoes of a post-Beatles solo record, recorded in the Northwest in the mid-90s; transient in its influences yet tied together with the aesthetic of its approach. Déjàvu' is the debut solo album from Matthew Tavares, aka Matty. Originally released in 2018 as a digital only release, it now sees the physical release it rightly deserves. Produced by his good friend, the acclaimed producer / songwriter Frank Dukes, ' Déjàvu' emerged during a period of rest for Matthew after heavy touring schedules with his former band Badbadnotgood. As with many of the most fertile creative minds, continual reinvention leads to exploration of new sounds and styles. ' Déjàvu' sees a departure from the jazz of Badbadnotgood and a move into a more song-based storybook, with Matthew stepping up to the plate as lead-vocalist. As Matthew explains "I’ve always worked on my own stuff outside of Badbad, and I’ve made music that sounds like this since I was 16. But when Badbad started taking off, it was like “Ok, I can’t really make rock-y songwriter music anymore”. The inspiration for the album came after revisiting old favourites and classics such as The Zombies, The Beatles, shoegaze, and Krautrock records. It was also made in a difficult and reflective period in Matthew's life, with each song being a vignette to an individual. "I wrote each song about someone specifically, but then I realised very quickly afterwards that every song is about myself". Even though on the surface the record could be loosely categorized in the rock / indie camp, its dreamy psych-pop vibe evokes much richer musical inspirations. Elements of jazz, AOR, and the compositions of 'golden-era' Brazilian arrangers such as Arthur Verocai enrich the songs. For the Mr Bongo release of ‘Déjàvu' we have included the beautiful bonus track 'Verocai Pt. II’ which was a product of the same recording sessions and rounds off the record. Though a 'solo’ release, with its songwriting, content, and themes being very personal to Matthew, the record is backed by a cast of friends, family, including Badbadnotgood members.

Just a few months after releasing their acclaimed second album Still Life, Los Angeles indie-pop band Massage returns with Lane Lines a six-track EP out in early 2022 on Mt. St. Mtn. (Cindy, Flowertown, Blues Lawyer) that finds the quintet expanding on their Sarah-meets-Creation Records sound with new touches of soft psychedelia, Feelies-ish frenzy and Haçienda-era escapism. The band didn't plan to follow Still Lines so quickly. But after the pandemic further delayed that multi-year project, Alex Naidus (guitar, vocals, former Pains of Being Pure at Heart), Andrew Romano (guitar, vocals), Gabrielle Ferrer (keyboards, percussion, vocals), David Rager (bass) and Natalie de Almeida (drums) leapt at the chance to make music together again in real life and started gathering on random summer evenings in the tiny rehearsal-space studio of producer-composer Andrew Brassell (Susanna Hoffs) with no clear goal in mind. Lane Lines is the surprise product of those informal sessions - a flash of pent-up creative energy that serves as both a companion piece to Still Life and an exploration of textures and influences that didn't quite fit the full-length but have always been deeply embedded in the band's DNA, with new echoes of 1980s artists that sought to refract the 1960s through their own skewed prisms: Flying Nun, the Paisley Underground, The Feelies covering The Beatles, "Second Summer of Love" New Order. "The songs on Still Life and Lane Lines seem to straddle the line between indie and pop without exactly being 'indie pop,'" Romano says. "To me they feel more like descendents of 'college rock' a moment that lasted from about 1986 to 1991, right before the underground and the mainstream converged, when it seemed like any scrappy indie band might stumble across a hit." SEVENTH DREAM OF TEENAGE HEAVEN is an unashamedly psychedelic adventure, far removed from the dark, angular soundscapes of Bauhaus. Yet they had to fight hard to avoid being branded "goth", citing Syd Barrett, Marc Bolan and the later period Beatles as primary influences. The Quietus revisited the album on it"s 35th anniversary in 2015 and said "it"s its own thing, ruined elegance, sculpted beauty, sometimes sharp without being angry, often inspiring without being sappy, able to capture even slow dull moments in an attractive fashion."

Netherworld marks a considerable step onwards from the territory that Louise Patricia Crane explored on her debut long player Deep Blue, crafting audial landscapes that go further into both inner and outer space; hallucinatory and surrealistic yet also grittier and more direct. For all that this stemmed in part from early Genesis and The Beatles, Netherworld also sits in alignment with the luxurious but oddly intimate realm of modern classics, by the likes of Tears For Fears, Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell, with passionate intensity set in a bold, cinematic vista. In realising these romantic and expansive visions, Crane not only wrote or co-wrote the entire album, but arranged, co-produced and played a wide variety of instruments on it. Yet as a supporting cast, she has surrounded herself with a formidable selection of mercurial contributors. Once again, Jakko M. Jakszyk (King Crimson) brings his fiery and mellifluous solo guitar work, as well as contributing backing vocals, keyboards and co-production. Elsewhere, the flute soliloquies of Tiny Bard are the work of Jethro Tull’s Ian Andersonwhile saxophone duties are handled by Mel Collins, whose work with King Crimson marks only one chapter in an incredibly storied life in music. The band had previously released two LPs and several 45s which contained an exquisite selection of covers, from The Rolling Stones material to songs by Astor Piazzola, but with Walkin’ Up they entered history as excellent songwriters and conceptual artists. With a great use of studio production, unseen before in Argentina, they laid down a wide range of psychedelic sounds and structures that decades later are be considered as the Buenos Aires version of Los Shakers’ La Conferencia Secreta del Toto’s Bar—both albums under a huge influence from The Beatles’ Sgt. "Fictions" (1967) by Los Vidrios Quebrados is released now on vinyl, from the original IRT masters! Los Vidrios Quebrados were pioneers in Chile in adopting psychedelia as a musical aesthetic, due to the influences gathered mainly from British groups. Although they bequeathed only one LP, this one is a permanent reference of research and applause, for having been worked with their own material (without covers, as was the norm of local rock at the time) and combining their electric flight with opinions of social observation. "Fictions" (1967) is one of the most important rock albums made in Chile. The 1966 single "Friend" and "She'll Never Know I'm Blue" gave way the following year to the recording of "Fictions", their only LP, under the RCA Victor and Ues Producciones label. Without merely copying their influences, the songs on the album feature smooth and fine instrumental arrangements by Héctor Sepúlveda (guitar and vocals), who also acted as the album's musical director. Those who were lucky enough to hear them live say that they were much more rock than what we can appreciate on the album. And the music on the "Fictions" album was even more sophisticated than what was being done at the time, there was a musicality that was quite anticipatory, even foreign. If you listen to the harmonies in "Introduction to Life..." or "Concerto in A Minor", they are quite complex compared to what was heard at the time. That's why they also had a place in radio stations more accustomed to playing classical music, like Radio Andrés Bello. There was a certain intellectual taste, something like an "intellectual arrogance", like the quotations to Oscar Wilde in the lyrics of the songs, for example. For the recording of "Fictions", Los Vidrios Quebrados had very little time, as was customary in those days. And despite the technical limitations of the recording studios (two tracks -vocals on one side and all the instruments on the other-, bottle cap tambourines and homemade instruments), when listening to the album, the result is surprising and, considering that in Chile the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones was already known, the reception of "Fiction" was quite good. After the success of "Fictions" and with a promising future, Los Vidrios Quebrados decided to go to Europe in 1969, but the idea was rejected by the parents of two of the members, who only saw music as a hobby. Different life choices and musical tastes led months later to the end of the band.

"Mac's" (1968) by Los Mac's is released now on vinyl, from the original IRT masters! Los Mac's were one of the first rock bands formed in Chile. They are justly considered pioneers of rock in Chile, and although their history ended before the beginning of the seventies, their mark is fundamental in the history of the genre in the country. Los Mac's was one of the inaugural bands of Chilean rock, started in Valparaíso in 1962 and left as a heritage a classic song of the psychedelic music of the sixties: "La muerte de mi hermano", composed by their fellow countryman Payo Grondona. The group started in 1962 in the neighborhood of Playa Ancha, as a rock cover band that was revealed and heard in some national radios. It was the surname of the brothers David and Carlos Mac-Iver (its first exponents) that gave the group its name. During their teenage years, in Playa Ancha, the Mac-Iver brothers met frequently with budding figures of Chilean culture, such as the singer-songwriters Gitano Rodríguez, Payo Grondona and the poet Sergio Badilla Castillo. In 1965, after playing in festivals and universities in Buenos Aires, they moved to Santiago, where they met the composer and keyboardist Willy Morales, who shared the same musical interests and decided to join the group, later incorporating Eric Franklin. Morales was the son of artists and like Franklin, came from the experience of a very popular group (Alan y sus Bates). Now, with their own songs, Los Mac's began a new stage that would mark the history of national rock. Their initial singles were recorded starting in 1964, under an agreement with the record company RCA. That same music company backed the album "Go Go / 22", their first full-length, in 1966, with songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Shadows, Bob Dylan and only one original "No Te Comprendo" (authored by Willy Morales). The Mac's were strongly influenced by the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band, which led them to experiment in the field of psychedelia, prior to the recording of their album Kaleidoscope Men, released in December 1967. This is, perhaps, their most representative work that remained as a legacy for the history of Chilean rock. The instrumental track "El Evangelio de la Gente Sola" (where the electric organ of Willy Morales stands out) is simply overwhelming and hallucinating. In 1968, the group, led by the hand of Morales, decides to leave for Europe, with a farewell concert at the Santa Maria University. They settled in Genoa, Italy, but for various reasons the band disbanded the following year.

Formed in 1961, Los Jets are one of the essential bands in the emergence of rock & roll music in Argentina. Infectious rock&roll, surf, beat, girl group and ye-yé sounds by LAS Mosquitas, the first female beat band from Argentina.

Including their rare album from 1965 for the Music Hall label plus bonus tracks from singles and their impossible to find split EP with Los Gatos Salvajes.

Las Mosquitas (“The Little Flies”) consisted of Stella Maris Conde (Pupé) on vocals and guitar, María Cristina Medina (Nita) on bass, Ana María Millán (Nené) on vocals and guitar and Beatriz Cabrera (Dina) on drums. They performed their original compositions as well as Spanish sung covers of hits from the era. Producer Ricardo Romero of pioneering rock&roll Argentinean band Los Cinco Latinos took them under his wing and secured a deal with the Music Hall label.

They toured nationally and internationally, sometimes supporting Los Cinco Latinos, other times as the main act. Not only that, but they conquered every city they performed in, they were received by fans, ambassadors, presidents and their daughters, all eager to see Las Mosquitas on stage. Tours through Panamá, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico, Chile, Uruguay, Brasil, Curazao and Argentina were completed with fantastic public response and TV appearances.

The “Mosquitamania” was born and a string of singles and a full album on the Music Hall label followed. All of them are compiled here for the first time.

Kummitus (Finnish for “Ghost”), a band from Tampere who were active in the mid- ’70s, is certainly one of the strangest entities in the history of Finnish rock music. Their original vision was to create a mystical band that builds on horror or hysteria and performs in costumes, frightening their live audience. The band had also considered remaining completely anonymous. However, the concept proved inadequate for various reasons. Keyboardist Hannu Latva-Hakuni recalls: “We quickly ditched the masks and costumes because we had to show up before the show during the load in.” Drummer Seppo Tammilehto has speculated that in the ’70s, musical skills were even more important than in later eras of rock music. “We were laughed off the stage because of these extra musical elements.”

The concept for Kummitus came from Heikki Kauppinen who had managed a booking agency called Ohjelmamiehet and sold Matthews’ gigs. “He proposed this idea to me in the very beginning”, Seppo Tammilehto recalls. Jussi Niemi from the town of Nokia became the band’s guitarist. Despite their young age, Niemi and company accompanied both Sammy Babitzin and Johnny Liebkind and played in Muska’s band for one summer. A stint in Arto Sotavalta’s Häkäpönttö was followed by military service. After that also Niemi had time to play in Matthews. “Then we moved on to plan Kummitus.”

As the band’s manager, Heikki Kauppinen designed Kummitus a light show together with Pekka Heinänen who was responsible for the costumes. Flyers saying “kummitus IS Coming” were distributed all over Finland. When the band hit the road in the summer of 1975, the light show was of course ruined by sunshine. Besides their then unreleased original material, Kummitus played cover songs mainly from British rock bands such as Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

Later on Heikki Kauppinen was contacted by Kari Kantalainen and Vesa Majanen, both coming from a journalist background, who wanted to produce Kummitus’ album. The record label Basf, who were more renowned for their cassette tapes fit for home recording, was found through Kauppinen’s contacts. The album was made in Pekka Nurmikallio’s Microvox studio in Lahti. Jussi Niemi recalls there being “two stereo recorders, so almost everything was played live. Even the choir sections were sung while we were playing. The vocals, however, were recorded separately. It was challenging, since there’s all sorts of soundscapes especially on side B.”

True to its name, Kahdet kasvot (Two Faces) clearly consists of two different sides. The straightforward and rocking side A is kicked off with ‘Paranoia’, composed by Niemi and featuring lyrics written by Tammilehto. The murky synth parts are a fine addition to the “robust rock music”, as the original pressing’s liner notes describe the song. As an uptempo rock song, Juhani Kivistö’s ‘Tuonen rock & roll’ may bring to mind early Coitus Int, whereas ‘Taivaassa taas’ and its devoted vocal performances share DNA with Kontra’s Finnrock. ‘Nauru haamuille’, written by Tammilehto, features proggy guitar patterns and a ghastly synth solo. ‘Se on ok’ was written by Niemi while the rest of the band was dining, with the purpose of making the album long enough to be sold at a full price.

The more experimental four-part entity of side B was, according to the liner notes, dedicated to “Spike Jones and an Englishman named Waters.” Pink Floyd influences are apparent in dramatic sound effects and certain details in the arrangements. ‘On the Run’ from The Dark Side of the Moon can be seen as one of the role models for the nightmarish track ‘Ilme’. The title track, written and sang by Tammilehto, is a catchy rock composition, and Kivistö’s ‘Kuudes päivä’ effectively mixes Floydian prog and blues nuances with saxophone-filled soul. The guest blower Lucjan Czaplicki played in Uranus, whose sole album Aamun hauta (1975) was also released by Basf.

The story of Kummitus continued for a while, albeit with obscure twists. “Due to certain difficulties, the band split up in the early summer of 1976,” Seppo Tammilehto recounts. “The group continued with a lineup that consisted of me, Olli Kivistö and Eero Peltonen. We backed up Mikko Alatalo under the moniker Manserock-76. This came to an end late in the summer when I reassumed the position of Alwari Tuohitorvi’s drummer. The group had become quite popular.” After the original Kummitus had split up, some other individuals played gigs under the moniker. Seppo Tammilehto has met a recently deceased musician and person of reduced mobility from Tampere, named Jukka Törmä, who used to play in the fake group. “With all due respect, he was a great guy. Törmä looked back on the gigs, where musicians were gathered before the performances, with a smile even if they didn’t work out at all. Kummitus’ manager Heikki Kauppinen had no idea who was arranging these shows. According to Törmä, the shows weren’t arranged for long and he stepped aside quite early.”

Even without the band’s unusual history, Kahdet kasvot would deserve a second coming as an original and interesting album. To cite Hannu Latva-Hakuni, “listening to the album now, almost 50 years later, I think we did a hell of a good job.”

Dirty Dynamite is the seventeenth studio album from Swiss melodic hard rock/heavy metal band Krokus. The album was well received by critics, partly due to the surprising element of their Beatles cover of “Help”. The band origins from the seventies, and have since sold over 15 million records, toured the world and received gold and platinum discs in the US and Canada. The legendary English journalist Malcolm Dome quite rightly said: “If you look at the long-term output of this band, Krokus is clearly one of the best hard rock bands of the last 40 years”. In 1978, Kiss simultaneously released solo albums from all four members. Gene Simmons, most associated with Kiss's heavier side, is revealed to be a closet Beatles fan as evidenced by "See You Tonite," "Always Near You," "Man of 1,000 Faces," and "Mr. Make Believe." But the surprises don't stop there: choirs and string arrangements, 70s funk, and good time rock n' roll also appear alongside heavy rockers like hit single "Radioactive." This eclectic mix of material is supported by guests like Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, Bob Seger, Donna Summer, and Janis Ian.

My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton. She had a voice like Billie Holiday's and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed"- Bob Dylan This essential folk/blues classic, originally released in 1969, was the debut album by Karen Dalton. Dalton was discovered by singer/songwriter Fred Neil, who introduced her to producer Nick Venet (the man who signed The Beach Boys and took The Beatles to America). She cut most of the tracks with one take, and all in one night. A perfectionist, Dalton was hard to convince to record, and producers Venet and Neil were only successful by tricking her into thinking the tape wasn't rolling. "Some find Karen Dalton's voice difficult to listen to", wrote Al/Music critic Richie Unterberger. "But Dalton's vocals aren't that hard to take, and they are expressive; like Buffy Sainte-Marie, it just does take some getting used to because of their unconventional timbre." On this album, Dalton covers a wide range of styles, from lim Hardin, Jelly Roll Morton, and Leadbelly to the traditional folk song "Ribbon Bow" and the Eddie Floyd/Booker T. Jones penned soul tune "I Love You More Than Words Can Say." She also sings a couple of Neil tunes. After years of drug abuse, Dalton died in 1993, aged 55. Although she didn't enjoy commercial success during her lifetime, her work has gained significant recognition since her death, and artists like Nick Cave, Devendra Banhart, and Joanna Newsom have noted her as an influence.

Forget Haikara, Apollo, Kalevala, Elonkorjuu... Kalevi Falk's eponymous album from 1971 may be rarer than any of those. Kalevi Falk were on Blue Master, the label also responsible for Apollo, and nobody is sure how many copies of their only LP were eventually sold or printed. Kalevi Falk continued playing until 1975 but due to everchanging lineups they never did another record. Although Kalevi Falk at the time was mostly known as the backing band for schlager stars such as Carola, their own work is a different bag. Ranging from a Beatles cover to psychedelic songs about vampires, this retro oddity has it all. The Svart reissue comes with the original gatefold layout and adds a new interview with a few of the band members.

It is time that this awesome piece of late 60s style beat and psychedelic rock music gets a proper reissue. This one will be appointed with an awesome leathery cover and comes in a strictly limited edition, available in prsale only.
What do we know about this record? It feels like Syd Barret, TBeatles, Twink, The Deviants, T-Rex, Tomorrow and The Small Faces got together for a boozy and smoky jam session out of which a handful of beautiful songs have emerged, ranging from straight, powerful beat tunes towards joyful flower pop anthems with a bubble gum edge with a layover at melancholic folksy singer / songwriter sounds. What most people do not know ist that the participating musicians are only partly British. This album is the brainchild of renowned Japanese world music / ethno jazz rock artist Osamu Kitajima, who later on went to fame under his own name with some extraordinary progressive albums in the later 70s. He spent a year in England around 1970 to 1971 and recorded this album under the monicker of „Justin Heathcliff“, to make the impression of a true British pop / psyche record with a distinctive late 60s feel perfect. It might not have been a commercial starship around the time it got released, but it stood the test of time and even nearly 50 years after it’s initial release this record still flatters our ears with songs of unearthly beauty on par with the above mentioned English legends. More pop than alternative music of 1968 „Justin Heathcliff“ is a great soul journey to a brighter and more colorful time. This is swinging London, not the apocalyptic hippie Utopia of Haight Asbury in late 1967, or the revolutionary street fights in Germany or France. This is music to comfort your mind and make you feel happy. It even goes back to 1966 when The Beatles did „Revolver“. For a 1971 release this is already a retro affair despite only going back to elements who were five years old at most. It does not matter anyway, this is a masterpiece and Osamu Kitajima is a master of colorful UK 60s pop.

Joy Zipper is an American indie pop duo from Long Island, New York, made up of Tabitha Tindale and Vincent Cafiso, who are also a married couple. The duo has been playing dream pop since the late 1990s. The band is named for Tindale's mother. Their songs are underpinned with darker scarred lyrics (suggested in interviews to have been inspired by the death of Cafiso's father) causing them to be famously compared to, 'a candy apple with a razor blade inside'. Plastic Ono Band was the debut solo album by John Lennon. Released on December 11th 1970, John and Yoko had started writing and demoing at Abbey Road (emi Studios) in the summer, with recording sessions during September/October

After the break-up of The Beatles that year, John and Yoko embarked on a period of self-reflection and experimentation, with the results that the songs and sessions for Plastic Ono Band were heavily influenced by his immersion in Arthur Janov’s primal therapy. John was able to find emotional depth and honesty within himself that few artists had ever done before, with John saying to Rolling Stone “now I write all about me and that’s why I like it. It’s me.” . The result is perhaps the most honest and emotionally raw album that anyone has ever released, let alone someone who was one of the four most famous musicians on the planet. With a small core band comprised of just Ringo Starr on drums and old friend Klaus Voorman on bass, co-produced by Phil Spector, the album peaked at 8 in the UK charts and 6 in the USA. Released on the same day was Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band album, the couple regarding the release as a pair of albums rather than two entirely separate projects, albeit of course it not achieving the same sort of coverage or chart success as John’s.

Coming as this does hot on the heels of last year’s much loved and well-reviewed “Gimme Some Truth” set and “Imagine” before that, the audio has been completely remixed from the original studio tapes as part of the ongoing John Lennon Ultimate Mix series. The aim for this mix process is to achieve three things: to remain faithful and respectful to the original recordings; to ensure that the sound is sonically clearer overall and to increase the clarity of John’s vocals. As Yoko says, “it’s about John” and this new mix shows that it is his voice that brings the biggest emotional impact of the album.

This multi-format release included a Cd/bd Super Deluxe Box with 130 page book featuring many exclusive and new photos, track-by-track notes in the words of John and Yoko, lots of tape boxes and full breakdown and descriptions of the audio content. He and his Playboy Band are most well-known for his 1968 number 1 bubblegum pop rock single, "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)."The band recorded 4 albums for Paula Records during the late '60s. None of the albums have ever been re-released. The album that's named after the hit single is an underground psychedelic bubblegum pop album that is highly sought out after record collectors all over. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Rocky Mountain High album and song, John Denver's Windstar Records is reissuing the album on limited edition Transparent Blue Vinyl. Originally released September 15, 1972, Rocky Mountain High was Denver's first Top 10 album, propelled by the self-titled single. In 2007, the title track was made a state song of Colorado. The album has gone on to earn 2x Platinum status and the title track certified Gold. In the early 1970s, Denver was one of the first artists to share an environmental message through his music, and fans responded. John understood that responsibility came with having a public voice. The album's iconic namesake Rocky Mountain High was written while Denver was camping in the Rocky Mountains during the Perseid Meteor Shower, with lyrics expressing the love and wonder John Denver felt for his adopted state of Colorado, and speaking of environmental sustainability. Released while war was raging in Vietnam, the album's second single "Prisoners" tells a story of prisoners of war. The album also features Denver's take on songs by The Beatles and John Prine, and the five-part Season Suite finds reflection through the seasons.

RSD First, Limitation: 1000

Native American guitarist Jesse Ed Davis was the “go-to” guy for a remarkable group of musicians. Starting in the mid-‘60s, he toured with Conway Twitty, then became a key part of Taj Mahal’s band, playing on several albums and tours including an appearance in The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, and, perhaps most famously, accompanied George Harrison during the Concert for Bangladesh, followed by work on various solo albums by John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Gene Clark, Leonard Cohen, and Jackson Browne (that’s Jesse taking the solo on his 1972 breakout hit “Doctor My Eyes”).
All this activity caught the eye of ATCO Records, who released his debut LP Jesse Davis in 1971. The album featured Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, Gram Parsons, Merry Clayton, Ben Sidran, John Simon (producer of The Band), Alan White (of Yes), and many others including Delaney Bramlett behind the mixing desk. A year later, Atco released Ululu containing some of the same all-stars, plus Duck Dunn, Jim Keltner, and Dr. John – and a version of George Harrison’s “Sue Me, Sue You Blues” before even George recorded it.
Of late, there’s been something of a Jesse Ed Davis revival. Besides Real Gone Records releases, Davis was a major figure in the documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World…and now this fall comes a full-fledged biography, Washita Love Child: The Life and Times of Jesse Ed Davis, by Dr. Douglas Miller.
To honor the man and the occasion of the book’s release (and to slake guitar-heads the world over thirsting for more tasty Jesse Ed licks), Real Gone Music releases Tomorrow May Not Be Your Day: The Unissued Atco Recordings 1970-1971, a double-LP collection consisting of, as the title says, all unreleased recordings taken from Jesse’s sessions for his two Atco solo records. Along the way you’ll find completely unreleased songs (“Slinky Jam”), unexpected covers of “Ain’t No Beatle,” “Kansas City,” and “Tracks of My Tears,” unissued instrumentals (including a version of Dylan’s “Love Minus Zero/No Limit”), and an entire side featuring alternate versions of Jesse’s masterpiece, “Washita Love Child.”
Remastered by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision, and featuring notes by Dr. Miller festooned by photos contributed by Jesse’s son William “Billy” Noriega, Tomorrow May Not Be Your Day: The Unissued Atco Recordings 1970-1971 represents a major archival find from one of rock’s most intriguing characters, out on Cobalt “Blue Jean” vinyl limited to 1500 copies worldwide.
