Combining the traditional 1989 basketball influences of the Gel-Extreme™ with modern cushioning, the Asics EX89™ was originally created by Toshikazu Kayano in the late 80s as his first design project for Asics. The layered leather construction of the upper meets spirited color blocks that match the legendary NBA team colors of that era. Asics also updated the cushioning system with their in-house FF Blast™ technology, which greatly improves comfort; added to this is a molded heel design to improve comfort underfoot in everyday scenarios.

Currently, adidas teamed up with Pop Trading Company to create a capsule collection that features classic Trefoil-branded silhouettes updated with POP branding. The Pop Trading Company kept it classic and just added some subtle signature details to this adidas classic. In terms of direction, Pop Trading Company aimed to keep the signature adidas look from the Trefoil era and work with classic adidas colorways.
