Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers, the fertility of the land, and the coming of spring. Field Notes borrowed her name for their 62nd Quarterly Edition. Three original designs (A, B, and C) by Chicago artist, muralist, and designer Emmy Star Brown grace the covers of these bright, joyful Memo Books.

It‘s been some time since Field Notes offered anything this colorful. These vibrant colors and shapes, printed on high-quality 100#C McCoy cover stock from Sappi, are precisely what we all need to break out of the bleak winter and into the hopeful spring. The artwork is enhanced by the subtle application of contrasting glossy and dull varnishes. Inside you’ll find three distinct page styles: one ruled, one dot graph and one plain, featuring subtle grey ink on excellent Domtar Lynx 60#T paper. Glossy red staples tie it all together, figuratively and literally.

Originally, a flat bucket made of military fabric was purchased at a flea market in the United Kingdom, which, according to the seller, served soldiers as an outdoor shower tray. A few years later, when talking about a pet bed at Puebco, this item served as inspiration to create their own design. The fabric was reused from tents that the military had discarded. After Puebco secured it with ropes and sewed it together, it was washed to look like worn old jeans. Puebco had several animals sleep in the experimental product, and they seemed very comfortable.

Attention: this product is made by reusing used camping tents. Because the material has been exposed to the open air and has been worked by the elements, there is adhesion of dirt or rust, tears as well as holes. As the fabric weakens somewhat due to the aging process, it may break or crack when washed. Color and design are assorted.

The Field Notes Steno is 6" by 9" with a black “Double-O Wiring” spiral at the top so it lies flat, open or closed. Inside you’ll find 80 pages of 70# “Bright White” paper Gregg-Ruled with a fine, soy-based application of “Double Knee Duck Canvas” light brown ink. The covers are 60 pt. “Super Duty Chipboard,” with a screen-printed 1-color application of “Dictation Smudge” black ink.

The inside covers provide a range of useful information, from the history of stenography and an abbreviations guide, to temperature conversions, planetary distances from the sun, a hobo symbol quick reference guide and more.
