Released in 1997, Lost Highway is a neo-noir film co-written and directed by David Lynch and stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Blake. The film’s surreal narrative follows a musician who begins receiving mysterious VHS tapes of him and his wife in their home, and who is suddenly convicted of murder, after which he inexplicably disappears and is replaced by a young mechanic leading a different life. Director David Lynch has described it as “psychogenic fugue” rather than a conventionally logical story.

The film’s soundtrack features an original score by Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive) and Barry Adamson, as well as songs by artists such as David Bowie, Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed, Marilyn Manson, and Rammstein. In New Orleans, Lynch collaborated with musician Trent Reznor. Two songs by Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, “The Perfect Drug” and “Driver Down”, were specifically composed for the film. Reznor then produced the soundtrack album. The album reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and reached Gold status in the United States.

In partnership with Milan Records, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (soundtrack From THE Netflix Film) by Grammy Award®-winning saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer Colin Stetson (Hereditary, Color Out Of Space) features music written by Stetson for the long-awaited sequel to the 1974 horror classic. The 23-track collection finds Stetson expertly layering a multitude of sounds and instruments to create a hauntingly brutal, industrial soundscape.

From a filmmaking team that includes Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and Kim Henkel, co-writer of the 1974 classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw Massacre arrives on Netflix today, February 18, 2022.

Directed by David Blue Garcia, the film centers on Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. “Labyrinth” is a soundtrack album by David Bowie and Trevor Jones, released on cassette and vinyl in 1986 for the film “Labyrinth”. The first audio CD release was in 1989. It was the second of three soundtrack releases in which Bowie had a major role, following “Christiane F.” and preceding “The Buddha of Suburbia”. The soundtrack album features Trevor Jones' score, which is split into six tracks for the soundtrack: "Into the Labyrinth", "Sarah", "Hallucination", "The Goblin Battle", "Thirteen O'Clock", and "Home at Last".

“Labyrinth” is a 1986 British-American adventure musical dark fantasy film directed by Jim Henson, executive-produced by George Lucas, and based upon conceptual designs by Brian Froud. The film revolves around 15-year-old Sarah's (Jennifer Connelly) quest to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, who Sarah wished away to Jareth, the Goblin King (David Bowie). With the exception of Connelly and Bowie, most of the film's significant characters are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

“Gladiator” is the original soundtrack of the 2000 film of the same name. The original score and songs were composed by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard and were released in 2000, titled “Gladiator: Music From the Motion Picture”. The Lyndhurst Orchestra performing the score was conducted by Gavin Greenaway.

The album won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and was also nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Score ("Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music").

“Gladiator” is a 2000 epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson. It stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed (in his final role), Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, and Richard Harris. Crowe portrays Hispano-Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, who is betrayed when Commodus, the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, murders his father and seizes the throne. As usual with Basil tapes / things there is little else to go on, no tracklist, no list of musicians, no singer names, no dates or anything. I have actually tried to establish the name of the singer on the song from Side One (we have called it “Love Is To Walk Away “ as it is unnamed) but having played it to a handful of knowledgeable collectors and enthusiasts who I would count as experts in this field, no one has a clue who it might be. If you think you know please get in touch. We know who it isn’t.

We can tell you that Assignment K dates from 1968, was a film about a toy maker who has a double life as an international spy. It was directed by Val Guest, who’d just finished trying to rescue the cinematic hotchpotch that was Casino Royale - he had been brought in by the Bond producers after Peter Sellers had walked off the movie. We imagine Assignment K may have been a slightly less stressful few months of shooting. As for the Kirchin score that we have here, we can tell you very little indeed, apart from the fact that the bass player was Ron Prentice (an ex blacksmith turned musician and craftsman) who worked on several Bond scores, but we know little else. And we only know this because it says so in the academic tome “Jazz On The Screen” by David Meeker.

The Strange Affair is also from 1968, and was not only controversial but also a reasonably unsuccessful movie. Directed by David Greene who also directed, amongst other films, I Start Counting and the quite brilliant Sebastian. In this rather grubby flick a policeman called Peter Strange (played by Michael York) falls for an underage girl (played by Susan George), finds himself compromised by a pair of pornographers and gets lured into an errand for a smack gang. We can tell you little else because I have no more information about it all.

But we do know that this music has all the classic Kirchin mid-period sonic hallmarks that have always set him apart.

Based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation® platforms, The Last of Us is written and executive produced by co-creators Craig Mazin (Emmy® Award-winning creator of HBO’s “Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann (creator and writer of the award-winning “The Last of Us” franchise and Naughty Dog Co-President).

The Last Emperor is a lavish historical epic directed by the great Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci and starring John Lone, Joan Chen, and Peter O’Toole. The film tells the life story of Pu Yi, the last monarch of the Chinese Qing dynasty prior to the republican revolution in 1911. The score for The Last Emperor was created by an unlikely trio: Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Byrne, and Cong Su. The soundtrack is a theme-filled exploration of the sounds and musical traditions of Imperial China, filtered through some very contemporary sensibilities. Sakamoto’s contribution comprises nine cues and is focused around his main theme: a beautiful, lyrical melody for the full orchestra. It’s soft, wistful, and introspective, but becomes increasingly dramatic. Byrne contributes five cues, and the first one is the most recognisable, as it’s the main title theme playing over the film’s stylish opening credits sequence. It emerges from a set of evocative Chinese percussion items, with the melody being carried by a gorgeous, lilting erhu. It’s traditional and wholly steeped in Chinese classical music, but it has a real emotional weight that will connect with westerners. Cong Su’s contribution to the soundtrack album comprises just one cue – “Lunch” – but there is much more of his music in the film; Su was basically responsible for writing all the period-specific Chinese source music one hears in and around the imperial palace during Pu Yi’s childhood. All in all, Sakamoto, Byrne and Cong Su deliver an excellent score.

It's been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes, his debut album of non-film music and the opening salvo in one of Hollywood's great second acts. Those vibrant, synth-driven songs, made in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering composer and director. In the years since, Carpenter, Carpenter, and Davies have released close to a dozen musical projects, including a growing library of studio albums and the scores for David Gordon Green's trilogy of Halloween reboots. With Lost Themes IV: Noir, they've struck gold again, this time mining the rich history of the film noir genre for inspiration.Since the first Lost Themes, John has referred to these compositions as "soundtracks for the movies in your mind." On the fourth installment in theseries, those movies are noirs. Like the film genre they were influenced by, what makes these songs "noirish" is sometimes slippery and hard to define, and not merely reducible to a collection of tropes. Pitt and Freeman star as Detectives Mills and Somerset as they search for the elusive serial killer John Doe (Spacey), who has been carrying out meticulously planned murders based on each of the Seven Deadly Sins. As the murders pile up, the detectives gain insight to John Doe’s twisted philosophy, leading to the grizzly end of his terrible crime spree.

The score by master composer Howard Shore brings a somber and menacing component to the movie. The dark and symphonic orchestrations undercut Fincher’s gruesome images with an unyielding tension throughout the film. ‘My Animal’ is Augustus Muller’s (Boy Harsher) debut as a feature film composer and follows 'Cellulosed Bodies', his score for two experimental pornography films released last month.

Muller wrote and recorded the score for 'My Animal' at his home studio in Northampton, MA, where he primarily used hardware and analog synthesizers. Muller utilizes a sparse but efficient palette of sounds, combining modern and quintessentially 80’s soundscapes to create a score that’s fresh while still nodding to 80’s B movies. With this release, Muller pays homage to Klaus Shulze’s music for 'Angst' and John Carpenter's 'Assault on Precinct 13'.

Written by Jae Matthews (Boy Harsher), 'My Animal' was directed by Jaqueline Castel, and stars Bobbi Salvör Menuez (Euphoria) and Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies).

'My Animal' is a genre-bending horror romance that tells the story of Heather. Tormented by a hidden family curse, she is forced to live a secluded life on the outskirts of a small town. When she falls for the rebellious Jonny, their connection threatens to unravel Heather's suppressed desires, tempting her to unleash the animal within.

Legendary hip hop pioneer DJ Muggs and frequent David Lynch collaborator Dean Hurley join forces for the original score to the 2023 Sundance-premiering feature film Divinity. Equal parts sonically punishing and ethereal, the soundtrack delivers a unique punch that further intensifies the mind-bending, acid-trip experience of the film.

Divinity is a sci-fi dystopian odyssey produced by Steven Soderbergh and helmed by visionary director Eddie Alcazar. Set in the distant future, scientist Sterling Pierce dedicated his life to the quest for immortality, slowly making progress developing a serum named Divinity. Jaxxon Pierce, his son, now controls and profits from his father’s once benevolent dream. Society on their barren planet has been entirely perverted by the supremacy and pervasiveness of the drug. Two mysterious brothers arrive with a plan to abduct the mogul, and with the help of a woman named Nikita, they set on a trajectory hurtling toward true immortality.

Amidst the film’s extraordinary tapestry of stark aesthetics and themes, the score is a ten ton barbell of sonic weight. Crafted with 8-bit samplers, Wavestation synths, extended choir and string techniques, the soundtrack manages to swing wildly between the arenas of both music and sound design. Like all rich soundtracks, listening to the score on its own re-conjures the imagery of the film in the screen of the listener’s mind, an aural experience that manages to encapsulate and pulse a matched intensity of the film.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks and inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.

About the composer:

Mark Mothersbaugh is a Grammy, Bafta, and Emmy nominated composer, producer, designer, and visual artist whose work has become part of the pop culture consciousness. He started his career as co-creator and front man for the seminal New Wave band Devo. Their Brian Eno/David Bowie-produced debut album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo” was certified Gold before their hit album “Freedom of Choice” went Platinum.

For Cocaine Bear, Mothersbaugh wanted a score that reflected and captured the culture of the ’80s, with a personality that evolved as the decade’s music evolved. “At the beginning of the film, it starts out very pop,” Mothersbaugh says. “But as it goes through it, it gets heavier. The guitars change up from being acoustic and lighter to being distorted and more aggressive and there are synths throughout that provide a pulse that keeps things moving.”

To make it as authentic as possible, Mothersbaugh used the instruments that created some of the most distinctive and memorable sounds of the ’80s music scene. “Once we decided we were going to let it soak a bit in an ’80s sound, I went to the warehouse where I store equipment and my old Devo road cases full of synths,” Mothersbaugh says. “I pulled out old synths that we used on albums in the ’80s and used the same synths and a lot of the same amps and foot pedals.”

Ayahuasca: Music for Film, by Luis David Aguilar (1978-1983) compiles works by Luis David Aguilar, one of the most prolific composers of film scores in Peru. It shows the great versatility and avant-garde style that has distinguished his work.Luis David Aguilar (Arequipa, 1950) occupies a fundamental place in the history of film music in Peru, not only because of the prolific nature of his work (which also includes music for television and advertising), but because of the singular, experimental style found in many of his scores. Aguilar's music blends modern academic composition with the use of native instruments, synthesizers, sound collages and a diversity of resources, which identify him as a key figure to understand a period of Peruvian music marked by the imprint of the avant-garde and the use of native sounds, which developed during the late 70's and the early 80's.Aguilar belongs to the so called "Generation of the 70's", along with Peruvian composers such as Walter Casas, Seiji Asato and Aurelio Tello, who were then immersed in the languages of contemporary classical music. But he also shares the spirit of renewal of a generation of musicians who came from the world of jazz and electronic experimentation such as Manongo Mujica and Arturo Ruiz del Pozo.Ayahuasca is an album that collects pieces from 1978 to 1983 and offers an overview of the different musical paths that Aguilar followed during his career as a soundtrack composer. Unbreakable, about a security guard named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who becomes the sole survivor of a train wreck, posed the question of what would happen if superheroes were real. At the insistence of a mysterious, rare-comic-book collector named Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jack-son), who suffers from a medical condition that makes his bones shatter on the slightest impact, Dunn comes to believe that he has super strength and is impervious to injury or illness. Not only that, he has the ability to see or sense the evil deeds of others simply by touching them.

The Unbreakable score, by James Newton Howard, was the second collaboration between Shyamalan and Howard, following their work together on The Sixth Sense. The Unbreakable score experience was unlike any the composer had had before. “Night sat there and story-boarded the whole movie for me,” Howard said. “I’ve never had a director do that for me. He wanted something that was very different, very distinctive, that immediately evoked the movie when people heard it.”

Howard and Shyamalan chose to simplify the score, and minimized the number of instruments (strings, trumpets, and piano), with limited orchestrations. Some compositions were recorded in a converted church in London. “You could have recorded the same music in a studio in Los Angeles, and it would have been great, but there is something about the sound of that church studio,” Howard said. “It's definitely more misterioso.”

Composer West Dylan Thordson reunited with Shyamalan for the Glass score. “I wanted to find sounds that felt brittle and sharp,” Thordson said. “Violin and metal percussion became clear voices for me to build from. Mainly, I wanted the combination of melody and dissonance in Glass to play to Elijah’s thrilling and playful energy. The longer gnarled sounds combined with the pristine orchestral elements seemed to work well to represent the melding of light and dark. To me, the score for Glass is largely about discovery and acceptance.”

West Dylan Thordson is an American film music composer. He is best known for his original scores to Joy, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, Foxcatcher, and M. Night Shyamalan's Split and Glass.

The instrumental soundtrack was recorded by the band Toto (minus lead singer Fergie Frederiksen), accompanied by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper Choir, conducted by Marty Paich, father of Toto keyboardist David Paich. "Prophecy Theme" was composed for the movie by Brian Eno, who is rumored to have composed an entire earlier Dune soundtrack, although only "Prophecy Theme" and some incidental background music survived in the final film version. "Mediterraneo" is a film directed by Gabriele Salvatores, set during the Second World War on the Greek island of Castelrosso, a few kilometers from the Turkish coasts. In this place, only apparently uninhabited, some Italian soldiers arrive on a mission; they will soon find themselves to be completely isolated, forced to wait for any communication signs from the outside world and to integrate with the local population.

When it came out in theaters in 1991, “Mediterraneo” immediately gained wide acclaim and recognition (David di Donatello and Nastro d'Argento for best film, Academy Award for best foreign film), a success also significantly determined by the soundtrack written by Giancarlo Bigazzi and Marco Falagiani, record producers and composers of a large series of Italian music famous songs and themes: the essence of this movie score is fully enclosed in the five notes of the main theme, both simple and evocative, immersed in a context of ethnic feel and Arabic/Oriental flavours. Born in 1936 in New York City, David Hess began his career recording million-dollar chart toppers for the likes of Elvis Presley, Sal Mineo & Andy Williams in the 50ies & 60ies. His biggest hit is probably ‘Speedy Gonzales’ which ended up selling more than eight million copies worldwide. After a career as a record company executive the 1970s, Hess took on the role of actor, writer, director and producer in the movie industry. Writing and working with directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and directing the 1980 slasher “To All A Good Night” were only a few of his many accomplishments.

Most of us will remember him as Krug Stillo, the leader of a gang in Wes Craven’s classic 1972 cult shocker “The Last House On The Left” as well as portraying the villains in Ruggero Deodato’s “House on the Edge of the Park” (1980) and Wes Craven’s “Swamp Thing” (1982). Other movie roles include ’21 Hours At Munich’, ‘Hitch-Hike’, ‘Body Count’ and ‘Zodiac Killer’. David Hess also appeared regularly on the TV screen with appearances in shows such as ‘Knight Rider’, ‘The A-Team’, ‘The Fall Guy’ & ‘Royal Pains’.

Throughout his film career Hess’ love for music never waned. He continued to produce music, including several albums (“Caught Up In The Moment” and “Live & Unplugged in Hollywood, 2002.”). Some of his music can also be heard on more recent soundtracks, such as ‘Cabin Fever’ (2002) and ‘Manhunt’ (2008). On October 7, 2004 just two years after his role in the 2009 horror epic “Smash Cut” starring Sasha Grey, David Hess sadly passed away at the age of 75. He will forever be in our hearts.

David Hess composed the soundtrack for ‘Last House on the Left’ & his work here contains some truly beautiful songs, the discovery of which, for some, may be in stark contrast to the brutal displays of sadism and violence for which he was known to purvey onscreen. The fact that Hess could perform as both the poet, and the monster, is a testament to his skill as an artist. The soundtrack to Last House On The Left is a brilliantly unique and diverse mixture of farcical comedy, poignant, reflective folk music and instrumental experimentalism. Hess constructed a wonderful counterbalancing entity, which serves only to accentuate the impact of the movie.

Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight trilogy). The 636 was composed by Pinar Toprak (composer for the crazy hot video game Fortnite, the film Justice League, and the upcoming Captain Marvel movie for Marvel and Disney).

In conjunction with The Criterion Collection’s special-edition DVD and Blu-ray release of David Byrne’s 1986 film True Stories, Nonesuch and Todomundo Records release a comprehensive soundtrack, collected for the first time in one package and in film sequence: True Stories, A Film by David Byrne: The Complete Soundtrack. David Byrne was inspired by tabloid headlines to make his sole foray into feature-film directing, an ode to the extraordinariness of ordinary American life and a distillation of what was in his own idiosyncratic mind. Byrne plays a visitor to Virgil, Texas, who introduces us to the citizens of the town during preparations for its Celebration of Specialness. As shot by cinematographer Ed Lachman, Texas becomes a hyper-realistic late-capitalist landscape of endless vistas, shopping malls, and prefab metal buildings. In True Stories, Byrne uses his songs to stitch together pop iconography, voodoo rituals, and a singular variety show. Byrne calls the record “an immersive audio voyage into the little town of Virgil, Texas, in the mid-eighties.” He continues, “I always imagined that the music written for True Stories should be heard as it is in the film. It makes the most sense this way. Me singing the song that was written for John Goodman’s character, Louis Fine, always felt weird to me. It was written for that character, not for me.”

Reissue of an out-of-time and ahead-of-its time garage rock soundtrack to the typically out-of-his-mind Mike McCarthy aka JMM movie Sore Losers. The film is full of aliens, comic books, rednecks, zombies, boobs, gals, gals fighting, and rock ‘n’ roll. Starring the Oblivians’ Jack Oblivian, with Guitar Wolf, Mike Maker, the deliciously curvy D’Lana Tunnell, and a guest appearance by exploitation master David F. Friedman himself.

Anyone who has seen his movies can attest to the fact that Mike McCarthy always overdelivers. Sore Losers is as good / bad an example as any. Whole soundtracks would be filled out around just one of the acts on this thing—case in point, Greg Oblivian doing a toy instrument version of the much-loved “Bad Man” that is worth the price of the record by itself. Plus The Gories / Dirtbombs’ Mick Collins, The Makers, Jack Oblivian himself, and the mighty Guitar Wolf! Also New Orleans garage/ frat kings Royal Pendletons, Jeffrey Evans of the Gibson Bros with his ’68 Comeback, and also featuring Jack Taylor, the most amazing / fucked up guitar player ever. His guitar tone started with the legendarily messed-up solo in the Velvet Underground’s “I Heard Her Call My Name” and then added four fuzz pedals to it, creating modern art! RIP Jack Taylor. There is also Nick Diablo of Viva L’American Death Ray Music, The Drags, The Makers, Tim Feleppa, Gasoline… This is quality ’90s garage rock, still raw and vital as ever.

This rerelease coincides with McCarthy’s new edit of the film. Southern sci-fi trash has never looked or sounded so good.

This sonic gem is also enriched with psychedelic flutes, obsessive rhythms, and percussion which results with a totally prog-rock and psych-funk score that perfectly describes the main elements of the film: action, tension and violence. Remastered from the original master tapes preserved for decades in the C.A.M. archives, and augmented with exclusive liner notes by Davide Pulici (Nocturno Cinema) and stunning original artwork created by Luke Insect, this edition will be a true pleasure of the senses for any and all soundtrack lovers.

Fire Walk With Me is an altogether more brooding affair than the Twin Peaks series soundtrack. Badalamenti won a grammy for the title track of this LP and it's not hard to see why- it's dangerous, and bursting with smokey jazz thanks to Jimmy Scott. We went back to the master tapes in the Warner Archives and had this recut to fit across two LPs as the score clocks in at 51 minutes. It sounds incredible and punchy, but super nuanced too.

From the brooding opening bars of the main Fire Walk With Me Theme, Angelo Badalamenti's gorgeous, eerie score introduces us to a cinematic experience which significantly begins with the smashing of a television screen. Just as the Main Title from Blue Velvet echoed the Hitchcockian hues of Bernard Herrmann, so here we have just the slightest touch of Taxi Driver, as Jim Hynes' plaintive, keening trumpet soars above a landscape of melancholy keyboards, drawing us into a world which is at once alien and familiar.

Always a carny at heart, Friedman gravitated towards the sleazy independent film world, where he started a new company and ushered in a decade of his greatest films. Always brimming with bodaciously bare beauties and copious carnality – which became his tawdry trademark. From 1964-1975, he wrote and produced roughies, historical costume dramas (based on literary classics), counter culture time capsules, wild wanton westerns, various soft-X sizzlers, an elaborate jungle epic and perhaps the worst sci-fi movie ever committed to celluloid.

But what ties all of these films together is the ballyhoo. Friedman sure knew how to craft an auditory advertising campaign to got ‘em in the theatres. He was the king of alliteration and catchy taglines and his coming attractions were among the best and most entertaining of their time. Many of the trailers and radio spots utilized all-original compositions and scores from Billy Allen – a composer/conductor Friedman enlisted to set his films apart from all the other smut peddlers.

As “adults only” films were getting more explicit in the ‘70s, Friedman longed for the good old days of sin and skin. He only dabbled in the XXX world for a short time before retiring. So, listen up and get ready to have your ears spanked hard!

Bullet Train is the 2022 American action-comedy film by the Deadpool 2-director David Leitch and is based on the 2010 novel Maria Beetle, written by Kōtarō Isaka. In Bullet Train, Brad Pitt stars as Ladybug, an unlucky assassin determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs gone off the rails. Fate, however, may have other plans, as Ladybug's latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe – all with connected, yet conflicting, objectives – on the world's fastest train...and he's got to figure out how to get off.

The film features a number of original tracks. Most notably, the film contains Japanese language covers of "Stayin' Alive" by Bee Gees and "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler. Composer Dominic Lewis noted that the film's soundtrack represents "all vibe and no technique".

In 2010 he scored Jeff Nichols' Take Shelter, and has since scored all of Nichols' films, including the forthcoming Bikeriders starring Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Jodie Comer. Wingo has transitioned into television over the last several years, providing the score for FX’s Mayans MC, Showtime's Kidding and HBO's Emmy Award-winning Barry, for which he received an Emmy Nomination in 2019 for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series.

ABOUT AMMAN ABBASI

Amman Abbasi is a Pakistani-American writer-director, editor, and composer from Little Rock, Arkansas. Filmmaker Magazine listed him among the 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2016. His film Dayveon premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the 2017 Berlin Film Festival, and went on to get two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations in 2018, including in the coveted Someone to Watch category. As a music composer, Abbasi’s compositions have appeared in several commercials, films, and documentaries, and most recently he was a music consultant for Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (2020). In 2008, he and his brother’s debut album, Something Like Nostalgia, topped the charts in Japan.

About the composer:

Born in England, David Buckley's first involvement with film music was as a cathedral choirboy performing on Peter Gabriel’s score for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. He continued his musical education at Cambridge University. In 2006, David moved to Los Angeles where he began collaborating with Harry Gregson-Williams on film scores, including Shrek The Third and Gone Baby Gone. He has written music for films including Wonder Woman, all the Fifty Shades movies, Big Eyes and American Hustle, and his music was featured in David O’Russell’s Joy. David was honored as a ‘Brit to Watch’ by Bafta.

For television, David composed the music for the hit Scott Free/CBS drama series The Good Wife and continues to score the spin-off, now in its sixth season, The Good Fight (for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Title Music).

As well as film and TV, David has written the music for a number of games, including Batman Arkham Knight.

Buckley's soundtrack to THE Sandman is a lush and dynamic composition overflowing with analog synthesizers, full orchestra, sound design, and even usage of ancient instrumentation. It grants each character in the series their own theme, and effectively transports the listener to an otherworldly, dreamlike setting.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks and inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.

About the composer:

Mark Mothersbaugh is a Grammy, Bafta, and Emmy nominated composer, producer, designer, and visual artist whose work has become part of the pop culture consciousness. He started his career as co-creator and front man for the seminal New Wave band Devo. Their Brian Eno/David Bowie-produced debut album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo” was certified Gold before their hit album “Freedom of Choice” went Platinum.

For Cocaine Bear, Mothersbaugh wanted a score that reflected and captured the culture of the ’80s, with a personality that evolved as the decade’s music evolved. “At the beginning of the film, it starts out very pop,” Mothersbaugh says. “But as it goes through it, it gets heavier. The guitars change up from being acoustic and lighter to being distorted and more aggressive and there are synths throughout that provide a pulse that keeps things moving.”

To make it as authentic as possible, Mothersbaugh used the instruments that created some of the most distinctive and memorable sounds of the ’80s music scene. “Once we decided we were going to let it soak a bit in an ’80s sound, I went to the warehouse where I store equipment and my old Devo road cases full of synths,” Mothersbaugh says. “I pulled out old synths that we used on albums in the ’80s and used the same synths and a lot of the same amps and foot pedals.”
