We have such sights to show you. The iconic Hell Priest returns in HELLRAISER, an all-new interpretation of Clive Barker's classic tale, directed by David Bruckner (THE NIGHT HOUSE), with a new cast of characters drawn into the nightmarish world of the cenobites, where pain and pleasure meet. Unleashing the cacophony of hell is Ben Lovett (SYNCHRONICITY, THE NIGHT HOUSE), who brings a fresh angle to the music of the franchise while still respecting the epic neo-gothic palette of original composer Christopher Young. Lovett's score is both seductive and sickening, using the beauty of the piano and the ferocity of low-frequency electronics to paint a sordidly stunning picture of Riley's demented ordeal in the world of hell. It's also patient to a fault, content to sit back and not give you the empty pleasures of everything at once, instead carefully edging until the full power of the cenobites is ready to be released—an experience beyond limits. As usual with Basil tapes / things there is little else to go on, no tracklist, no list of musicians, no singer names, no dates or anything. I have actually tried to establish the name of the singer on the song from Side One (we have called it “Love Is To Walk Away “ as it is unnamed) but having played it to a handful of knowledgeable collectors and enthusiasts who I would count as experts in this field, no one has a clue who it might be. If you think you know please get in touch. We know who it isn’t.

We can tell you that Assignment K dates from 1968, was a film about a toy maker who has a double life as an international spy. It was directed by Val Guest, who’d just finished trying to rescue the cinematic hotchpotch that was Casino Royale - he had been brought in by the Bond producers after Peter Sellers had walked off the movie. We imagine Assignment K may have been a slightly less stressful few months of shooting. As for the Kirchin score that we have here, we can tell you very little indeed, apart from the fact that the bass player was Ron Prentice (an ex blacksmith turned musician and craftsman) who worked on several Bond scores, but we know little else. And we only know this because it says so in the academic tome “Jazz On The Screen” by David Meeker.

The Strange Affair is also from 1968, and was not only controversial but also a reasonably unsuccessful movie. Directed by David Greene who also directed, amongst other films, I Start Counting and the quite brilliant Sebastian. In this rather grubby flick a policeman called Peter Strange (played by Michael York) falls for an underage girl (played by Susan George), finds himself compromised by a pair of pornographers and gets lured into an errand for a smack gang. We can tell you little else because I have no more information about it all.

But we do know that this music has all the classic Kirchin mid-period sonic hallmarks that have always set him apart.

The original score by Academy Award winner Volker Bertelmann that is the soundtrack to Jules, starring Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List), Harriet Sansom Harris (Licorice Pizza, “Hacks”), Jane Curtin (Coneheads, I Love You, Man) and Jade Quon (Transformers: The Last Knight, The Hunger Games) is set for release by ABKCO Records. Written by Gavin Steckler (“Review”, “Playing House”), Jules made its world premiere at the Sonoma International Film Festival where it was the opening night film, and won the Stolman Audience Award for Best Feature. The film is produced by Michael B. Clark, Andy Daly, Deborah Liebling and Alex Turtletaub alongside Marc Turtletaub.

Produced and directed by Marc Turtletaub (Puzzle, The Farewell, Little Miss Sunshine), Jules, a Bleecker Street release of a Big Beach production, was filmed in Morris County, NJ and follows Milton (Kingsley) who lives a quiet life of routine in a small western Pennsylvania town. His day is upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash land in his backyard. Before long, Milton develops a close relationship with the extra-terrestrial he calls “Jules.”

Things become complicated when two neighbors (Harris and Curtin) discover Jules and the government quickly closes in. What follows is a funny, wildly inventive ride as the three neighbors find meaning and connection later in life – thanks to this unlikely stranger.

The film’s score is the work of composer/pianist Volker Bertelmann who was a 2017 Academy Award nominee for his score to Lion. Last year he received both an Academy Award and the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for his score for All Quiet on the Western Front. The Budapest Art Orchestra performs Bertelmann’s music for the Jules score. Recording under the name Hauschka, Bertelmann is a prolific artist in his own right and, beyond soundtracks, has released 20 full length albums of original music to date. The Washington Post’s Michael O’Sullivan wrote, “In the end, Jules performs a magical, if tiny, bait-and-switch: It’s less a sci-fi parable — “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” for the AARP demographic — than a fairy tale reminding us that the tribulations of getting old are more natural than sad, and best done in the company of loved ones.”

The VMP exclusive version of Jules (Original Score) is pressed on 180g Honey Crisp vinyl at GZ Vinyl. The 1LP will arrive in a single, direct-to-board jacket with an 8x10 insert and art by Sara Deck. It was mastered by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering Labs.

Cracking a brain teaser is a much easier prospect if you’ve got a good soundtrack humming along in the background. No one knows that better than the fine folks at Draknek & Friends, and this 2xLP is a testament to that fact. It’s a compilation of the most ponderous and whimsical melodies from four different and very awesome games: A Monster’s Expedition, Sokobond, Cosmic Express and A Good Snowman is Hard to Build, perfect for getting lost in thought or just unwinding after a tough day of puzzling.

Composers Eli Rainsberry, Allison Walker, Nick Dymond, and Priscilla Snow all crafted a wide range of soundscapes, each unique to their respective games. They come together on this 2xLP to create a compilation of Draknek & Friends’ early years that’ll have you saying “Eureka!” And of course, the wonderful album art by Andre Rodrigues ties all these notions together into one beautiful big rumination.

Ainhoa, daughter of Manex and Amanda, will embark on her journey of initiation in the mid-80s. In our country, when we talk about the 80s, how quickly words, images and a certain atmosphere come to everyone's mind (even to those of us who were born almost twenty years later). And between words, images and atmosphere, something else, pieces of a puzzle that would later help us to take a picture of the era, among other things: sounds, melodies, songs. Music, after all. Every step Ainhoa takes will be followed by a melody. The music will be, also in this case, the common thread to stitch together the different parts of the story. Needless to say, knowing the director of the film, it was foreseeable that the music would be in the foreground or very close to it. A collection of songs that will also put us out of our village. Perhaps it is more difficult for us to connect with languages and forms of music that touch us further away and to represent only with them the streets of Afghanistan or Lebanon in the 80s, for example. Most people will listen to these songs from an etic perspective, until we come to think that the last three songs are the same and the alarm of that perspective goes off. Redskins tell us about power from the UK and The Pogues combine traditional Irish melodies with Turkish flair. We will travel through Lebanon with the sweet melodies of Soapkills and Taniah Saleh, friends of Muguruza during his months in Beirut. The fundamentalists silenced the voices of the Afghans Bakht Zamina and Khan Qarabaghi, ending their lives, but as long as a people sings, you know, death is far away. The first sounds of Qarabaghi's singing brought to my mind the melodies of the bard of Itzaltzu. How far away but how close at the same time. We will approach Palestinian folklore accompanied by the voice of Amal Murkus and we will smell the streets of the south of France with the Marseille band Massilia Sound System, the sound system that performed in Pamplona in 1992 alongside Negu Gorriak. Steven Wilson is a 4 times Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist, a soughtafter mixer and producer and has become known for the high sonic and musical standards of his work. His latest album The Future Bites featured guest contributions from Elton John and Nile Rodgers, and reached the top 5 in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, and elsewhere across Europe. More recently Steven has become known for his immersive audio mixing, starting with his own projects, but increasingly also for several classic artists as diverse as Black Sabbath, Roxy Music, Tears For Fears, Kiss and King Crimson. Last Day of June is an adventure puzzle video game in third-person perspective. Eurogamer ranked Last Day of June 33rd on their list of the “Top 50 Games of 2017”, while Polygon ranked it 38th on their list of the 50 best games of 2017. In Adventure Gamers’ Aggie Awards 2017, it won the award for “Best Story”, while it was a runner-up each for “Best Concept”, “Best Graphic Design”, and “Best NonTraditional Adventure”. It was nominated for “Game Beyond Entertainment” at the 14th British Academy Games Awards. The soundtrack to Last Day Of June is based on existing music originally recorded and issued either on Steven Wilson’s albums under his own name or as his project Bass Communion between 2004-2016. However, with one exception, all of the music was remixed or edited especially for this soundtrack and has been carefully sequenced to make a satisfying stand-alone listening experience. Last Day Of June is available on vinyl for the first time. The LP is housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve and contains an insert with credits and details of each song.

The soundtrack to Puzzle is composed by A Winged Victory for the
Sullen member Dustin O’Halloran. He says about his recordings: “I
wanted the score to have a minimal sound in order to leave space
for the performances of the actors, so I decided on a chamber sound
consisting of piano, string quartet, harp and woodwinds.” For the last
track “Horizons” he contacted his friend Ane Brun, who created beautiful
melodies and words that perfectly captured the feelings of the character
Agnes.
Dustin O’Halloran released his first two albums, entitled Piano Solos
and Piano Solos 2 in 2004 and 2006. Later on he scored multiple
soundtracks, including Marie Antoinette, Lion and The Beauty Inside.

Directed in 1972 by Romano Scavolini, "Un Bianco Vestito Per Mariale'" features a cast with some familiar faces from the Italian thriller genre like Evelyn Stewart and Ivan Rassimov. The film was scored by a great name of the Italian film music scene, Fiorenzo Carpi, whose music was superbly arranged and conducted with his own and unique great style by Bruno Nicolai. Originally released on vinyl by Gemelli in 1975, three years after the release of the movie, this score is dominated by the Mariale' theme both with Piano and orchestra and Edda Dell'Orso's voice and orchestra versions, and also features several lounge and tensive themes. Long out of print, we are proud to bring this beautiful soundtrack back on vinyl as a limited edition of 500 copies, including the instrumental version of "Mariale'" and an alternative arrangement of "Garden Party", available on vinyl for the first time

Ominous drums, obscure cellos, fuzzy and distorted guitars, psychedelic piano sequences: legendary Italian composer Alessandro Alessandroni creates a sombre and gritty war atmosphere on this classic library album "Storie Di Guerra". Originally released on the Octopus Records imprint by Flipper Music in 1972, this obscure and spooky library has been long out of print — 50 years past its release we are happy to bring this back on vinyl in collaboration with Flipper Music as a limited edition of 500 copies!

Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM, Universal Music Publishing Italy and EMI General Music Publishing, presents the premiere vinyl edition of the famous giallo score composed by Ennio Morricone in 1971 for LA Corte Notte Delle Bambole DI Vetro (aka Short Night OF Crystal Dolls) directed by Aldo Lado and starring Jean Sorel, Ingrid Thulin, Barbara Bach and Mario Adorf. Considered one of the best and most consistent giallos, the film is about journalist Gregory Moore (Sorel), whose corpse is found in a Prague square and taken to the local morgue. But Moore’s spirit is alive, trapped inside his dead body and desperately remembering the disappearance of his beautiful girlfriend, who is linked to a terrifying conspiracy of depravity. Can a reporter with no visible signs of life solve this perverse puzzle before his existence ends? Morricone’s thriller scores remain some of his most distinctive and original works. As demonstrated in his scores for Dario Argento’s efforts in the genre, Morricone’s uncanny ability to combine lyricism, unbridled avant-garde experimentation and stylish elegance was his most significant contribution to the category. LA Corta Notte Delle Bambole DI Vetro shows Morricone once again embracing the sophisticated avant-garde sound while beginning his score with a haunting tune performed by Edda Dell’Orso heard over the film’s main titles. The waltz theme has a timeless quality, providing a disturbing and disarming melody for the film. This is the first worldwide vinyl edition of this Morricone cult score. It has been completely produced and mastered by Chris Malone from original master tapes and pressed in audiophile clear glass-doll vinyl.
