Unrepentantly flying the flag for Classic British Metal since the release of their 1981 “Blitzkrieg/Buried Alive” demo, Blitzkrieg were a pivotal influence on countless heavy metal bands for decades to come: most notably, Metallica, who released a cover of the band’s eponymous track “Blitzkrieg”, both on “Garage Inc” compilation album, and as a B-side on their 1984 single “Creeping Death”. Formed in Leicester in late 1980 by lead vocalist Brian Ross (who remains at the helm of the band to this day), the band would take a four-year hiatus when Ross left to join NWOBHM legends Satan, recording their classic album “Court In The Act” (Roadrunner) and touring extensively, before reuniting with bassist Mick Moore to form Avenger.Returning from a hiatus in the wake of their critically acclaimed releases “Back From Hell” and “Judge Not”, Blitzkrieg are as vital, powerful and ferocious as the day they were founded over 40 years ago. Born as Max Decibel in a quaint, sonically vibrant town called Beatville, Mr. Mad Compressor had an unconventional entrance into the world. His parents swore that his first cry was in perfect pitch with the family’s piano. An ability he soon lost. An insatiable curiosity marked Maximillian’s teenage years for all things audio. He spent countless hours in his bedroom rearranging his parents' vinyl collection and experimenting with their vintage recording equipment. He was always poor, due to the compulsive gear acquisition syndrome and the insane electric bill. He never liked the fame and despised DJs raising hands to excite the crowd and touching knobs as they’re burning. There is a lot of good music that has not been promoted, there are very few tracks that haven’t been compressed, he said.

Mr. Mad Compressor continues to push the boundaries of music and comedy, proving that the line between genius and insanity is best experienced with a pair of good speakers. His legacy will be a testament to the power of embracing one’s unique sound and making the world a little louder, and a lot more fun.

Acid Jazz group label Countdown Records presents a new 7” single series: ‘Mod Classics’. The first release is from cult group the Fleur De Lys, pairing their 1965 recording of Pete Townshend’s ‘Circles’, with the first-time single release of their cover of The Temptations’ ‘You’ve Got To Earn It’.

‘Circles’ was originally slated as The Who’s follow up to ‘My Generation’, before getting caught up in legal matters. The Fleur De Lys version was released to take advantage of The Who’s misfortunes, but it was rush-released and failed to chart. It remains one of the finest slices of the Pop Art Mod sound, and is as fresh today as it was then.

‘You’ve Got To Earn It’ is from a tantalising, lost session from 1966 (which also included takes of The Impressions ‘Amen’ and Don Covay’s ‘Sookie Sookie’). All that survived from the session was an acetate of this amazing cut, found by group member Gordon Haskell, from which this side derives. It was originally released as the title track of the first Fleur De Lys compilation on Acid Jazz in 2013. It has never before been available on 7” vinyl.

"Formed in 1975, Throbbing Gristle, aka Chris Carter, Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson (1955-2010), Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950-2020), fully delivered on punk’s failed promise to explore extreme culture as a way of sabotaging systems of control. Their impact on music, culture, and the arts has been immeasurable and still felt today.

Having reformed in 2004, Throbbing Gristle’s The Third Mind Movements initially emerged as an exclusive release only available on the band’s last ever American tour in 2009, before they split again in 2010. The album travels through manipulated, time-stretched, and distorted samples, with rhythmical breakbeats and hypnotic oscillations of electronics.

The Third Mind Movements is released alongside TGCD1 - both vital additions for dedicated Throbbing Gristle and industrial music fans."
