DJ/Producer and musical storyteller J.PERIOD (The Hamilton Mixtape, Black Thought, The Live Mixtape) is back with his highly-anticipated Story To Tell (Chapter Two), a sonic adventure through Hip Hop, Soul, R&B and Reggae featuring performances from Andra Day, Aloe Blacc, Joss Stone, Kardinal Offishall, Estelle, Mumu Fresh, Camp and Mayda Del Valle; narration from Dave Chappelle; co-production from Rance Dopson (1500 or Nothin), J.Mo, DJ Khalil, Tall Black Guy and Stro Elliot; and original illustrations from acclaimed artist, Dan Lish.

Here we have 6 joints from their demo tape which they were pushing at labels back in 1992. The stuff has the feel of material from like 89-90 with nuff 808 bass sounds and familiar UBB samples. Everything is uptempo and bangs hard. Old school heads will no doubt approve!!!

Geology is the next album by New Orleans based producer and multiinstrumentalist Ryan T aka friendkerrek, and his second album for underground hip hop label Grilchy Party. Geology was created from the ground up without genre in mind, instead focusing on the very bedrock of the friendkerrek sound. After some reflection, the toolkit took shape: knocking drums, heavy bass, warm synthesizers, and plenty of atmosphere were chosen as the primary building blocks. The resulting songs were largely a departure from the normally sample heavy production of kerrek’s older records with faster tempos and more hand crafted melodies. Whereas previous friendkerrek records fit comfortably into the “instrumental hip hop” genre, Geology spans this as well as many other labels: electro, funk, and house music were all big influences as well. The album’s title comes from the scientific practice of the same name. The earth tells its stories if we know where to look for them, just as there is much emotion and meaning to be found in an instrumental album if we pay attention. Grilchy Party has always appreciated varied, diverse, productions and instrumental albums. This one right here takes things up a notch as it introduces the label as a multifaceted outlet for talented artists who are not afraid to experiment and expand.

Only a handful [less than 10] of TPs were pressed back in 93 and then it got dropped from the label, so was never actually released. Killer EP from Kas' crew Party Poopers. Kas never found out why it never got the full release but he suggested that it was possibly due to the label owner's illness [that's sickness - i Mean, sure he was nicewiddit but he wasn't well this guy!]. The truth is lost in time but fortunately these recordings were recovered by Kas from his DAT tapes, so we can present to you the final release from the Herring x Kas collaboration. It's a crying shame he never got to see his pet project released, but at Least the music will live on.

Further expanding the GrilchyParty cinematic universe we have Da Buze Bruvaz own emcee supreme, Him Lo, collaborating with producer extraordinaire, Wino Willy on a new full length LP entitled GoDdon'tFU&KWitU. The first time they connected was a few years ago on a track entitled “Iverson” that Him Lo did to welcome Wino onto the team ahead of his debut, Welcome Home Brother Willy. This led to them continuing on and doing an EP which was eventually scrapped in favor of this full length. Wino Willy has been an extremely busy, in demand producer of late, working with artists such as Mach Hommy, Your Old Droog, Danielson and a myriad of others. Him Lo has also been consistently busy working with Giallo Point as Cognac Kingz and alongside his BUZE BRUVAZ partner in rhyme, Clever One. Here we find Wino weaving a rugged tapestry for Him Lo to give his signature hardbody rhyme style. There is an art to putting albums together and Lo has mastered it. There is a deeper meaning behind this one though as the message is directly calling out those who always claim the lord but act the opposite. Wiz Khalifa, Big K.R.I.T., Smoke DZA and Girl Talk have released their collaborative LP Full Court Press. The product of over a decade-long friendship among the artists, the new album is a timeless and upbeat rap record.

On the project’s lead single, March’s “Put You On,” the group drops bars about the come-up of their respective careers. Leading up to the release, they shared more songs and accompanying music videos, including a visual for the party track “Ain’t No Fun” directed by kee and Bawwse.

“Collaborating with Girl Talk, Big K.R.I.T., and Smoke DZA on this album has been a long time coming,” Khalifa said. “Putting it together and throwing the house party for the “Ain’t No Fun” video was the perfect way to wrap the album.”

Spanning ten singles in total, Full Court Press is a nostalgic throwback, featuring undertones of the seventies and eighties alongside the musical stylings of each individual contributor. The album also packs in an additional guest appearance Curren$y.

A Breath of Fresh Air is the triumphant, inspiring new album from Bread of Kaliwild, a longtime staple of the underground rap scene who continues to grow and shine as an emcee. And while he certainly made waves with the release of his solo debut, Daily Bread in 2019, Bread is on another level with the ten tracks on this project. It’s all part of his plan to capture the sound he loves and holds so dearly, all while pushing himself as a lyricist.

Specifically, the L.A. rap staple calls out “What Love Is” as one of his favorite lyrical moments, and it’s easy to see why when you hear it. During the third verse, he shows love to his children in a creative and heartfelt way like only he can. “What Love Is” is also one of several collaborations between Bread and living producer legend Nottz, one of the emcee’s go-to producers. The two linked for Daily Bread and kept creating magic for their tracks together on this record. Whether it’s on the politically charged “Eye 4 Eye” or on the moving Guru tribute “Nice Like That” (feat. Big Shug), Bread and Nottz are a force.

The Kaliwild rapper’s ear for production doesn’t stop there, either. His two other collaborators—beatsmiths Noah Ayala and Therealasethic—provide a wealth of warm, head-nodding instrumentals for Bread and his guests. Just listen to “Godz Return,” a funky West Coast banger produced by Ayala that also features Planet Asia.
