Originally released in 1999, The Root's fourth studio album reissue will be a limited edition 2LP featuring 4 alternate cover variations. The album, named after the W.B. Yeats poem ‘The Second Coming,’ was art directed by the legendary Kenny Gravillis, who chose five different designs for the cover; each one is a striking image that represents moments in history when humanity was at a breaking point. Things Fall Apart is widely considered The Legendary Roots Crew most ambitious masterpiece. The album features urban legends Erykah Badu, Common, Mos Def, and more.

Things Fall Apart is the fourth studio album by The Roots, released on February 23, 1999. Widely regarded as one of the group’s masterpieces, the album helped solidify The Roots' position as one of the most important and innovative acts in hip-hop. Its title is a reference to the classic 1958 novel "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, which explores themes of societal disruption and cultural conflict.

The album was released at a pivotal moment in hip-hop, during the late '90s “conscious rap” movement, and addresses a wide range of social, political, and personal issues, including racism, violence, love, and the commercialization of hip-hop.
The overall tone of the album is dark and introspective, with a sense of urgency as it reflects on the state of both hip-hop culture and society at large.
The title and themes suggest a world on the verge of collapse, with lyrics that critique the impact of consumerism, poverty, and systemic oppression, but also explore more intimate personal struggles.

Things Fall Apart is a sonic blend of hip-hop, jazz, neo-soul, and funk, featuring live instrumentation, complex rhythms, and eclectic samples, which set it apart from the more sample-heavy production styles of its time.
Questlove's drumming provides the backbone of the album’s live instrumentation, with a laid-back, jazzy feel, while Black Thought's rap style delivers hard-hitting, reflective, and often politically charged lyrics.
The album also features collaborations with notable artists from the Soulquarians collective, including Erykah Badu, Common, D’Angelo, Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), and Jill Scott (though Scott was replaced by Erykah Badu on the album's hit single "You Got Me").

Key Tracks and Highlights:
"Act Too (The Love of My Life)" (featuring Common) – A soulful, reflective track about hip-hop itself, discussing the culture’s origins and the artists' deep connection to it.
"The Next Movement" – One of the album’s lead singles, it features a funky, upbeat sound and showcases Black Thought’s lyrical agility, with commentary on the evolving music industry and staying true to one’s artistic vision.
"You Got Me" (featuring Erykah Badu and Eve) – This is one of The Roots’ most popular songs, blending hip-hop, neo-soul, and R&B. The song tells the story of a long-distance relationship and features soulful vocals by Badu, with Eve providing a brief rap verse.
This track earned The Roots their first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2000.
"Dynamite!" – A raw, high-energy track with Black Thought delivering rapid-fire verses over an aggressive beat.
"Adrenaline!" (featuring Beanie Sigel) – A harder, more street-oriented track, with intense lyrical deliveries from Black Thought, Malik B, and a guest verse by Beanie Sigel.
"100% Dundee" – Known for its relentless, battle-ready verses and intricate wordplay from Black Thought and Malik B.
"Double Trouble" (featuring Mos Def) – This track has Black Thought and Mos Def trading verses, showcasing lyrical dexterity in a playful, competitive way.

The album is produced mainly by Questlove and The Roots, with additional contributions from D’Angelo, James Poyser, and other members of the Soulquarians, a collective of artists who blended hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The album’s sound is distinguished by its organic production, combining live instrumentation with layered samples and intricate drum patterns, creating a more textured and atmospheric backdrop for the group’s lyrical content.

The central themes of Things Fall Apart include the disillusionment with mainstream hip-hop, reflecting on the genre's shift toward materialism and commercialism, and broader issues like social injustice, racial tension, and urban decay.
Black Thought and Malik B delve into personal struggles with identity, success, and the pressures of staying true to one’s roots in an increasingly superficial world.
The record also meditates on the role of artists in times of social upheaval, with many tracks expressing a sense of frustration and uncertainty, yet also resolve and hope for change.

Things Fall Apart was a critical and commercial success, marking The Roots' breakthrough into mainstream consciousness while retaining their underground credibility.
It received widespread critical acclaim for its lyrical depth, innovative production, and willingness to tackle tough, socially conscious topics at a time when much of mainstream hip-hop was focused on more materialistic themes.
The album is frequently cited as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, and it helped to cement The Roots' status as pioneers of the alternative rap movement, alongside artists like Common, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli.
It was nominated for multiple awards and is now considered a landmark in hip-hop and neo-soul, influencing both genres in the years to come.

Things Fall Apart became The Roots' first platinum-selling album, and the success of singles like "You Got Me" introduced the band to a broader audience.
It paved the way for their future albums, including Phrenology (2002) and The Tipping Point (2004), where they continued to experiment with their sound and push boundaries in both musicality and lyricism.
This album is considered a cultural milestone not just for The Roots, but for hip-hop as a whole, reflecting both the possibilities of the genre and the depth of artistry that The Roots have consistently brought to their work.

The Queens-based duo of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po shined brightest on their 1994 sophomore LP “Stress: The Extinction Agenda,” which is receiving a reissue to mark its 30th Anniversary. Backed by dark, bass-heavy, and jazzy production, “Stress” showcased Pharoahe and Po’s dynamic and ever-shifting rhyme styles and electric chemistry from start to finish, creating an album that is an undisputed classic among hardcore Hip Hop fans.

The classic album featured guest appearances by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and O.C., with guest production by Buckwild and Rockwilder. In 1998, the album was included as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. In an era where flexing original styles was mandatory to gain respect, few Hip Hop groups were more respected than Organized Konfusion.

Deluxe triple-vinyl includes full album instrumentals, non-album bonus tracks, plus a stunning tri-fold gatefold jacket featuring contemporaneous liner notes by Jeff Chang (originally published in 1994) and newly unearthed archival photos from B+.

Limited edition of 330 copies only on Glow In The Dark vinyl. This is pressed with a new method so there is no sound difference between black vinyl and glow in the dark anymore.

The problem with being recognized as a creative genius is that you've got to live up to it 24/7. Kool Keith was given such a mantle upon the release of the “Dr. Octagonecologist” album, and it's not something he seems happy about: on the first track of “First Come, First Served”, he--as Dr. Dooom--kills Octagon. It's the perfect move for Keith, and it sets the tone for the album, which is a mix of humorous tracks ("Neighbors Next Door," which asks you to imagine having Keith and Jacky Jasper living in the next apartment, and "You Live at Home with Your Mom") and songs on which Keith lays down the law ("No Chorus" and "Leave Me Alone"). Few MCs could hope to match Keith, but here--rapping over knocked-off Octagon grooves (produced with Kutmaster Kurt, they're still more innovative than most) and settling lots of personal scores--he sounds like he's just trying to get a bunch of ideas out of his head as quickly as possible. Still, there's an amazing EP's worth of material here, but it's spread over a full album. Minus the filler, Dooom might just be Octagon's better. --Randy Silver

Berlin, Germany, sometime early, early nineties. 3 MCs share a dream, a dream of taking this rap thing to the max. It wasn't long before Doubleface, Boogieman and Big Sal started making noise in the streets of the capitol and by the mid-nineties the band Harleckinz was a household name in Germany's rap music scene. It is these demos here which would eventually break the band and secure various major deals. The rest is history - yet another beautiful rap story originated in Hip Hop's golden era.

"90two90six" contains 25 never before released demo tracks and instrumentals recorded between 1992 and 1996 next to 5 tracks which have been originally released on "From The Levels Below".

Available in a limited run on 4LP, 2CD in jewel case, double cassette and digitally on all major platforms.

From the makers of Wu Tang vs The Beatles, 'An Adventure To Pepperland Through Rhyme & Space' continues the obsessive use of Beatles samples (and cover versions) but this time laced with all the classic MCs of the 90s such as Biggie, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, Busta Rhymes, Large Pro, Lord Finesse and The Wu-Tang Clan. This record is as if the Beatles themselves were transported to 1990s New York (as implied by the intro) and set up a studio to make tracks with the legendary MCs. Nowhere else will you find the attention to detail in pairing up raw raps with Beatle based sample madness. The album was painstakingly made over a 4 year period and uses rare recordings and cover versions that were meticulously researched and filtered through to find loops that complimented each MC.

XtraExotic, the New Album from Neek The Exotic featuring Large Professor is the First album they did together since their acclaimed “Still On The Hustle”, released 10 years ago in 2011. This highly anticipated new release features 8 songs produced by Large Professor with additional production from The Alchemist on the hypnotic gritty melody banger “Put The Game In a Chokehold” and Bumpy Knuckles on the street anthem “Watch Em!” featuring Innocent. This album also features top notch cuts by the respected turntablists DJ Boogie Blind and DJ Precision. Every song on XtraExotic features Large Pro with additional guest features from 2 Legendary Golden Era Hip Hop Luminaries Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest on the magnificent Queens Anthem “Borough of Queens (Q.U.)” and Organized Konfusion’s Pharoahe Monch on “World Wide Street Legends" as well as "Better Believe" featuring Raw Watts. Other stand out tracks include the horn driven energetic “Team Players” and the ear bending intro track “Whooooo!!!” and much more! Large Pro praises this album as being their “Best work!” together. XtraExotic is a well-rounded album with dynamic rhyme skills over hard hitting Boom Bap beats! Neek The Exotic and Large Pro complement each other dropping jewels once again! Originally scheduled for release way back in March 1996, "The Raw Factor" by North Carolina native Omniscence is one of the last of the unreleased mid-90's albums to see the light of day. Despite being awarded The Source's coveted "Hip Hop Quotable" and dropping two well-received singles ("Amazin" and "Touch Y'all"), record label politics meant the full-length "The Raw Factor" album was never released and fans were left wondering what might have been.

28 years later, "The Raw Factor" is finally being released on vinyl, CD and digital stores. Featuring punchline-driven lyrics from Omniscence delivered in his unmistakable cadence, and backed by head-nodding production from Fanatic, the album is a must-own for fans of 90's Hip Hop.

Omniscence haunted the same early 90's cyphers and stages that many lyrical greats from the era had to cross. With a gruff delivery and equal adeptness with punchlines and metaphors, his high finish at the 1994 edition Battle For World Supremacy at the New Music Seminar assured heads across the culture were watching. After this, Omniscence locked in with producer Fanatic (who also laced tracks for Notorious B.I.G., Ma$e and Michael Jackson). The result was "The Raw Factor" album, fifteen plus tracks of jazzed out boom-bap, replete with crackin' drums.

Now Below System Records has not only given the album its first deluxe physical release (including 2xLP, CD and digital) as well as a slew of bonus/unreleased tracks.

The 1992 sophomore album of the legendary Pomona, CA group Above the Law. Acclaimed L.A. rapper Blu has left an indelible mark on the hip-hop landscape. Now, the gifted lyricist is back with The Color Blu(e), the latest addition to his impressive catalog. Among Blu’s most conceptual albums to date, The Color Blu(e) is an artistic thesis statement, celebrating and reflecting on a remarkable creative journey. The word “Blu(e)” is featured in every song title, and “Blue” is also weaved into each of the album’s soundscapes. While he typically works with a single producer on each project, this time Blu embraced a diverse sonic texture, with Sirplus, J57, and longtime collaborator Exile all contributing beats. An unapologetically personal collection with no features, The Color Blu(e) is packed with intricate wordplay and dynamic production, reaffirming the unique talent of the artist known as Blu.

Why you'll love it...
“The Coup’s second album, 1994’s Genocide & Juice, was an emboldened level-up from their first full length. While early Coup material had moments that blossomed on later efforts, Genocide & Juice was where those ideas deepened, becoming more pronounced as their catalog grew. Production wise, it’s replete with colorful samples, thorough skits and big bass, a perfect intersection of ’90s sample-based ingenuity and West Coast funk.

Genocide & Juice is mainly two things: neighborhood tales and unapologetic worldviews bound with fisted activism — made by the group’s core members at the time — Riley, Pam the Funkstress and E-Roc. But there are voices and sound effects woven throughout that give it more texture. Killer production that was able to sound both clearly professional while retaining its edge. At a concise 14 tracks, this album is one of the best sophomore efforts by any group, in any genre.”

Why you'll love it...
When the Beat Konducta and his trusty alter ego link up for the sequel, another southern California blunt cruise ensues. The Adventures Of Lord Quas consists of a slow ride through the deepest corners of the crate, leaving no genre unearthed until it claims space in the haze of one’s imagination. It’s business as unusual: Madlib funnels his most twisted impulses and comedic sensibilities into a sonic slacker flck complete with good dope, bottom-shelf liquor, and a penchant for gazing mouth agape into the great unknown. But he knows Lord Quas like a good needle on wax, and they casually strut through the loops, much ado about frontin’. (Not like fake shit ain’t a big deal, but it ain’t a big enough deal.) This record captures Madlib and his id at their most frantic, indulgent, and often confusing; they trade neatness for chaos, continuity for collage in a barrage of the finest sounds this side of the B-side. It’s hip-hop that takes every visible risk, often striking gold and proving how in control the Loop Digga truly is. Don’t hit it too hard, your other selves might pay you a visit.

Save Yourself is the debut solo album from rapper/producer ELUCID, New York’s best-kept secret. He’s worked with some of indie hip-hop’s most celebrated artists, like Open Mike Eagle, Tanya Morgan, billy woods, Beans from Antipop, milo, J*Davey, Busdriver, Small Professor and Rob Sonic. ELUCID has released critically-acclaimed collaborative projects as Armand Hammer with billy woods, and as Cult Favorite, with A.M Breakups, but Save Yourself represents a new chamber from a breakthrough artist. The album is largely self produced with additional production by Willie Green, A.M. Breakups, Messiah Musik and more.

S.F. Bay Area rap legend Mac Dre (R.I.P.) as another of his alter ego rap personas. "The Genie of the Lamp" is the doppelganger of Ronald Dregan, yet they share the same voice and interests, food, fame, females, phat fu, and 'fetti - not necessarily in that order. 15 tracks make up this counterpart to Mac Dre's other election year (2004) release, "Ronald Dregan - Dreganomics" (thz 1065). Production by Tone Capone, Mac Dre, Gennessee, Shouman, One Drop Scott, Traxx, Harm, Johah Whale, Syko, Rob-Lo, and others. X-rated. In a gatefold sleeve with unique marbleized color vinyl - one gold and one purple.

New York rapper Your Old Droog and Atlanta rapper/producer Tha God Fahim present their latest collaboration in Tha Wolf of Wall Street. While Fahim trades in brass-tacks metaphors, Droog leans more toward punchlines and pop culture-laden double-entendre. Like any effective duo, their contrasting styles dovetail seamlessly on their new EP Tha Wolf on Wall St. The entire project is an assured slice of underground rap, but the pair’s compatibility shines brightest on the title track. Fahim and Droog move back and forth like co-stars on a long-running cable drama, and Fahim’s production provides a more serene mirror reflection. Fahim laces each of the EP’s eight tracks with sedate loops, splitting the difference between his and Droog’s clashing styles.

The self-released 2003 album Shitten in the Park (Blunder in the Park) by ECD is as revolutionary as it is gutsy. In a country well known for its tendency to keep hushed on social issues, the late-great ECD defied all means of holding back as he delivered his empassioned anti-war, anti-discrimination, people-positive rush to the airwaves.

This album came at a time of transition for the rapper as he’d just ended his long-running major label contract with Avex-owned Cutting Edge, and there’s a rawness on display across these tracks; an experimental flavour to the sampling as he explores the freedoms of a self-released album. The penultimate track “Hinja no Koushin” (Poor People’s campaign) is a great example of ECD's grappling with different eras and sounds as soul and jazz records are subjected to different sampling techniques, and provide the vehicle for his socially-conscious rap.

Even as his state worsened in the grip of cancer, nothing could separate him from the microphone at protests with his rapping and creative impulses in full flow. Committed to his artistry until the very end, P-vine is excited to be reissuing the album on double gatefold LP for the first time in this deluxe package, and honor a true legend of Japanese hip-hop.
