Created during an extended break from the hectic blur of her life as a touring DJ, the album is a personal statement of intent from an artist who’s long looked beyond the club for inspiration. It’s also the first time that Emerson has put herself, her emotions and, most notably, her voice fully into the spotlight.

Having spent her entire career working more or less alone, Emerson purposely sought out a small cast of like-minded artists to help bring the album to life. A Chief among them was UK avant-pop savant Bullion, who executive produced the record and, most importantly, shares both Emerson’s predilection for shimmering pop melodies and her boundary- less approach to music-making.

Working together, they cracked open her head and heart alike, creating a space where she could intimately reflect on the people and places she’s loved and left behind.

DJ Elephant Power (Nicolas Baudoux) based in Brussels, Les Octaves de la Musique awarded musician, is returning with his new EP ‘Blowing From Above’ on May 2024 with limited edition vinyls. Buildings of synth grab you to follow the new banging club anthem. ‘Shades’ Curly hair architect, who is well known for perfectionism of repeated linear, built a new Mantronix satellite laboratory. This is located on the mountain of Detroit and built on the solid ground of analogue synth signals. Filtered synth and bassline are the main columns of the building. In the main lab, the next satellite has been developing on woah woah sound mattress. Visitors can experience zero gravity in the room in the middle of kick and snare which provides perfect unbalance. ‘Infinity’ A colourful new dish is ready for you. You will feel beautifully balanced and harmonious tastes of progressive techno, trap and bass. This astonished dish was sourced the very best of heavy bass and synth melody for well balanced scent with thoughtful contacts. Geomungo, a traditional Korean string instrument, enhances and amplifies stunning ingredients and it makes a highlight with amazing pairings.

Shall Not Fade's garage and breaks sublabel, Time is Now, has been a great success in its first year, and now starts 2021 with the first in a series of hand-stamped white label releases. London via Madrid up-and-comer Tower Block Dreams makes his debut for the label with five killer cuts, backed with a weighty remix from Manchester-based garage maestro and Time Is Now regular Interplanetary Criminal.

DJ Crisps is starting to make some handy garage moves after a couple of various artists' appearances and a fine EP on Time Is Now Germany in July. Now they link up with Oldboy who appeared on Burnski's other label Vivid back in 2022. As you should expect these are four hardcore and rudely garage cuts with plenty of swagger, naughty samples and bass-face potential. 'On My Way' is the standout with its shuffling one-two drum punch, distant police sirens and warped basslines underneath a timeless and irresistible female vocal full of soul. A summer scorcher for sure alongside three more very useful weapons.

Davide Piras is an Italian producer with a penchant for the tougher, rougher side of British bass music. Creating music under the moniker DJ Chupacabra, Piras has been picked up by labels like Haws and Dr Banana in the past year, and now makes his debut for Time Is Now with more deep raw cuts. The EP hits hard with deep tech, breaks and rumbling bass. "Grimer" kicks off with sparse, staccato beats for heads down business before the expansive two step of "Rockstar". With its eclectic use of samples and ominous swelling bassline, it's a solid club roller. Funky, earworming house is the game of B-side opener "Killalot" which hints just a little of an acidic edge. "Morbid" is a heady stepper with plenty of ear teasing melody and atmosphere. The EP closes with a crescendo in "Croissant", which has a chunky minimal deep tech beat and booming bassline which is destined to send the dancefloor wild.

Established Berlin based producer Carsten Aermes, aka PHON.O, delivers his latest EP ‘Afterglow’, bringing the Vorsprung Durch (to) Tectonic. Having dropped a number of acclaimed releases on Modeselektor’s dynamic imprint 50 Weapons over the last several years, PHON.O has also had a variety of singles and EPs for the likes of Kompact, BPitch, Shitkatapult and Detroit Underground, as well as remixes galore.

‘Mercurial’ kick starts the EP at 137bpm, melting the boundaries between techno, dubstep and footwork with effortless grace. The track sets a mood with an initial sense of ominous tension, before embarking on a strange, cosmic journey, narrated by polyrhythmic layers of percussive interplay. Kick drums bounce, snares crack, hats and the melody builds with mysterious intent.

Flip over then for the first of two further tales in dubwise beat science. First up is ‘U8 Phunk’, taking it’s name in part from a Berlin underground metro line, it represents a tougher, harder edge to the EP. Recalling echo’s of jungle music alongside techno sensibilities, ‘U8 Phunk’ follows on again at 137bpm with a series of hyperactive drum hits and twisting percussive manoeuvres, charged with a reese-like bassline and grimy bass stabs.

‘Bell Blender’ closes off the EP, further developing themes of broken breakbeats and grimy sci-fi atmospherics, this time at a tempo more accessible to techno dancefloors. Dubbed and spacious, smattered with crashing remnants of breakbeats and scorching synth sonics - it’s a fine way to round things off!

The Plastik People label has been going along nicely for its first few releases, with label head Marc Cotterell stepping up and coming correct last time out. Now he calls upon various artists with Dave Charlesworth taking care of the a-side of Nice Ripe Cuts. He offers two super slick garage cuts that cannot fail to make their mark on the club and it's no different on the flipside except D Lux & Y No combine first for '25 Miles' and then S R offers the irresistible 'Pressure.' An essential 12" for anyone looking to bring some fresh garage flavours.

Shall Not Fade champions its hometown of Bristol for this next release on the Time Is Now White Label series; Daffy has built a name for himself on the local scene putting out forward-thinking garage on labels to watch like Dim Sum Records and Equal People. This will be his first full vinyl EP and it's not one to miss.

Run Around EP builds up the tension throughout; starting off with "Put Your Feet Up", a ghostly atmospheric piece with a sparse beat, sprinkling of ear candy and crescendo of headsy melodies. The title track oozes a growling bassline beneath staccato vocal snatches - it's a deconstructed style of garage that maintains tension while adding a dreamlike quality. More tension encompasses "Nerves" alongside teases of low end wobbles and harsh breaks that coalesce into a punishing jungle track.

"Lost Again" brings in the B-side with this same energy, an explosion of rolling breaks forming the backbone of this rouch and ready Metalheadz style crowd pleaser, calling out to the rave. "Mishap" serves up ragga vocals, impenetrable sub bass and pouncing two-step ripe for a reload, all rounded off with "Wasp's Nest" - a raucous, no holds barred climax to the EP.

Emerging DJ and producer Yemi brings the soulful groovers to the Time Is Now white label series.

Having already received support from the likes of UKG mainstays Sammy Virji, Conducta and Smokey Bubblin' B during his relatively youthful career, Yemi is certainly an artist to watch. For justification, look no further than the vibrant, uplifting 6-track EP which combines luscious vocals and blissful piano chords to create a sound which is at once nostalgic and fiercely forward-facing.

Its two opening tracks get things off to a buoyant start, with a bouncing 4x4 rhythm and the syrup-smooth vocals of emerging artist and long-time friend, Bria Keely. Pair these with rattling bongos on "Never Let You Go" and the gleeful trumpets of "Smooth Talkin" and you have two tracks which make it impossible to keep still.

"My Heart" welcomes a change in mood with a loose two-step swing and moody vocals: a track made for the feels. But before you get too self-indulgent, the deep bass grooves of "Soul Food" bring the energy right back and "Tension"'s euphoric piano chords leave things on an ecstatic high.

Audio Soul Project is back with their latest vinyl-only EP, Simurgh. With a title inspired by the mythical Persian bird, these four tracks fuse elements of house, R&B, dub, and drum & bass to create an ecstatic and hypnotic experience. The EP kicks off with "Deliver Me," a dreamy house track with warm filtered chords and bouncing synth bass. R&B female vocal ad libs pepper the groove and the refrain "Deliver Me" adds a sense of yearning. The percussion, including morphing 4x4 and breakbeat drums, piano and synth stabs, nod to the cerebral Detroit and Chicago house compositions of the mid 90s. "Azizam Dub" takes a more stripped-down approach with a subsonic bass line bump and Juno 106 stabs. Frantic percussion and deftly cut vocal samples accent the ebbs and flows of the arrangement, making for a dynamic and engaging dance. The B-side of the record starts with "Internal Vybrations," a bass-heavy drum & bass track that winds and jumps with multiple layers of deep, fluttering bass and ambient pads and strings. Percussion layers like hi-hats, shakers, and maracas lift and relax the rhythm in parallel to the rest of the composition, making for a hypnotic and trance-inducing vibe. The B2 track on the EP, "Celebration Dub," is a bass-heavy swinging house track with ecstatic diva "Whooo" samples that punctuate the ups and downs of the groove's energy. Classic reggae and dub-influenced vocal samples and heavy tape delay on certain key instruments add to the joyful and uplifting vibe of the track. The keyboard and string section can transport a dancer to other realms of consciousness if they let themselves go to the groove. Simurgh is a masterful fusion of various genres that showcases Audio Soul Project's production prowess and ability to create an entrancing sonic journey. Banoffee Pies Records 15th Original Series release comes from Cassius Select. Canadian born producer Lavurn Lee, now residing in his home city of Hong Kong, drops his latest solo EP "Heavyweight". His unique style and selective output has drawn our attention for some time. This release does exactly what it says on the tin. With previous appearances on the likes of Matthew Herbert's Accidental JNR., Hypercolour and more, he has maintained a primary focus on rhythmic structures, alienated textures and eerie vocalisations that flaunt a strong influence and appreciation for UK techno, Hip Hop, Garage, and all things Broken Beat. The release kicks off with "Born To Defence", a mood setter scattered with punchy drum rolls and wild toms that set the tone for a harmonic palette across the 4 tracks. The A2 "Honda Civic" displays a tougher edge using a hybrid of sound. Pulsing late night business - Hatchback style. In a fusion of science and sound, Kalocain's debut vinyl release, "Genetic Memory," unfolds an eerie tale. "W.N.G." opens a portal to an ancient world, where forgotten tongues unveil cryptic secrets. There’s something to be said for getting noticed, for standing out from the crowd. West London’s T.Williams is one of those people, having accomplished a full sweep of merited recognition over the years. Emerging onto the house scene in 2010, T.Williams instantly marked himself as a breakthrough artist with a difference; his unique take on house music turning heads. Far from a newcomer, his path as a musical artist started in the grime scene as Dread.D. Signed at the tender age of 17 with grime anthem Invasion on Jon E Cash’s Black Ops label, Williams went on to have mass success in the grime and bass world selling thousands of singles worldwide. After a five-year reign, Williams found himself veering towards the world of house music. With a new found love for the sound and its sub-genres, T.Williams forged a signature sound influenced by his grime days, jungle, and garage. With a style that undoubtedly impacts, T.Williams’ crossover has been the catalyst for his success. Not only rife with groove and feeling but meticulously produced and engineered with deep rumbling basslines, the unapologetic bounce of grime and smooth vocals that bleed through African infused percussion work. While in 2010 the industry took note when hit record ‘Heartbeat’ featuring vocalist Terri Walker made an impression, it was throughout 2011 that T.Williams defined himself - releasing solo works on his imprint Local Action and Pattern with remixes for Maya Jane Coles, Ben Westbeech and Skream. Not stopping at pricking the ears of fellow artists and those on the dancefloor, the end of 2011 saw Williams nominated for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ by DJ Mag, ‘DJ Stars of 2012’ by Time Out and featured in The Guardian. Two relationships came to the forefront in 2012 that propelled Williams to greater heights. The first was his weekly show on legendary London station, Rinse FM and the second, Williams’ relationship with label PMR through his remix of Javeon McCarthy’s ‘Lost Time’. The remix was named Record of the Week by BBC Radio 1 and supported by tastemakers Annie Mac and Fearne Cotton. From here T. signed to the label exclusively releasing his debut EP for the label in September 2012, and in the process receiving further support from BBC Radio 1. Further remixes of Mikky Ekko, Wretch 32 and Lianne La Havas followed suit, as well as his biggest to date - Disclosure’s ‘Latch’. Powering dancefloors across the globe, T. went on to play three US tours, numerous festival stages, and deliver a second EP on PMR titled ‘Feelings Within’. The EP once again spanned a number of bases, from club bangers to heartfelt vocal driven tracks alike. Gaining his own monthly residency show with BBC Radio 1, 2013 ended with T. having played over 100 shows across four continents. 2017 marked the launch and release of the first collaborative EP with UK producer Julio Bashmore, via their joint independent Conch Records, a label aiming to push out more underground cross-genre music with heavy rotation from the likes of Moxie and Shy One. With an ever-expanding global tour schedule and further solo releases on the legendary NYC house label Strictly Rhythm turning heads, T.’s upward trajectory has never showed signs of slowing down. Selected to soundtrack the social media campaign for boxer Anthony Joshua in 2019 and now using his technical prowess as a musician to educate the next generation of rising stars at London’s respected Point Blank Music School has cemented his status as one of the UK music scene’s key players.

Chrome-plated sound design and bristling textures frame the latest speculative sci-fi experiment from Xao, meshing sonic concepts inspired by Rabit, Visionist and Lotic into the cybernetic scapes of Hyph11E or Algorave proponent Renick Bell.

Xao has been working alongside the C.A.N.V.A.S. label since the beginning, and his second album builds on the promise of 2019's Astral Black-released "Eternal Care Unit", by burying some of his most recognisable inspirations into an algorithmic shimmer of vaporous sound design and cyborg percussion. The roots of ‘Wirehead’ can be traced to the mid 2010s obsession with shaping global club echoes and videogame FX into music that accurately scored our descent into digital dystopia, but Xao makes a clear link between those ideas and the brain-fried cyberpunk vistas of William Gibson. His guiding theme is the idea of the contemporary digital attention economy with its algorithmically-powered tidal wave of content, and the mental states that follows - employing procedural and algorithmic compositional methods to shatter this status quo, reaching in the direction of a proposed "digital spirituality" in the process.

On opening track 'Bone Theory', he burns fragments of death metal into warped airlock club stumbles, welding evocative, clanging sound design to tempered forms of weightless grime and gravel-throated trap. 'Aqua Tofana' is more fucked, sounding like a frosted-glass take on Autechre's latter day post-electro rhythms, or an algorithm-warped AI rendition of Lanark Artefax's 'Touch Absence', while 'Hyperfixate For Me' stutters barely-audible vocals beneath cracked Vladislav delayed percussion and the corrupted data throb of guitar noise and loopy synthesis.

The rest of the album plays like a Johnny Mnemonic-style braindump: the last few years of underground electronic music melted into a frayed patchwork of textures, rhythms and sonic signifiers. It comes to a head on 'I Wed My Shadow', when opera singer Marie Requa Gailey's voice just about cuts through the static like a candle in the dark, making the escape route from the techno dystopia just about visible. Moments later we're exposed to the corrosive 'Ophanim Plushie' - all jazz clatter and anodised rolls, accompanied by drones and squashed breaks that barely make it off the surface. By the time we reach the album's final track 'Threnody for the Child of Omelas', it’s all repair and recovery, twisting beatless echoes from strangled neural networks into blankets of aesthetic warmth.

Wirehead is a smart album that fits well into the deconstructed club/post-club lineage, deploying hyperkinetic sound design and a whelming flux of feelings echoing contemporary classics in its progressive field by TCF or Lee Gamble or indeed the same algo-powered artificiality as James Ferraro, or even the hyperpop set, fused with nu-metal and dembow somewhere between Arca and Oxhy.

After three EP's in his own name, and one with Moreno Ácido at Holuzam, Diogo makes his debut 12” in the Discos Extendes series with “FINALMENTE!”. In a singular appropriation of the vast legacy of rave culture, Diogo crosses, along four tracks, a certain time span between the 90's and the 2020's, with all kinds of recycling and updates that the exercise entails. Syncopated rhythmic patterns, robust basses, junglist echoes, haunted voices or celestial pads make up a revivalist sound palette, here rearticulated beyond linear structures. “Até Segunda” sets the tone in territories close to Objekt's Theme from Q in a live sound design amidst sudden disturbances and rallying hooks. Tracks 2 and 3 stand out for their plot twists: “Ponto de Não Retorno” starts with a frenetic breaky maze before get immersed in a oneiric landscape, and “What?!” progresses gently within Vancouver coordinates to be opened to a schizophrenic rawness that, from there, completely remakes the track. “Errar É Ok” is an exercise of decompression, melodically woven, with a dreamy coda pointing to nostalgic horizons. Violet closes the EP with a muscular version of “Ponto de Não Retorno”. "Finalmente!" marks for this unstable balance between familiarity and strangeness, intuitiveness and disturbance, euphoria and immersion. Tracks for the dance floor, yes, with a twist, to be rediscovered as often as you like.

Nice Girl is back with 4 Tracks sitting somewhere between chillout, club & experimental. Fans will already know about her unique approach to sound, always surprising & fresh very hard to categorize. Although the 4 tracks can very much be viewed as an extension of her debut album „Ipsum“, the overall tone of the EP is somewhat brighter with more light, at times almost euphoric! Introducing Time Is Now's newest recruit, a link up that felt inevitable. A Bristol native, Borai has had a firm foot in the city's bass scene since its inception, his steadfast dedication to rave culture helping to shape what it is today. When he's not curating his own Higher Level label, helping steer the Club Glow collective, or cutting dubplates for Dubstudio, he's exercising his passion for hardware, crafting vital DJ tools which span an impressive crosssection of the hardcore continuum. Naturally EP is a culmination of these endeavours, as well as his far-spanning influences.

We're transported out of Bristol and into late 80's Chicago - the golden era of garage house - via soulful vocals, nebulous melodies and saxophone whispers. It wouldn't be a Borai release, though, without some UK flavours. Rich atmospheric jungle track 'Phosphenes' brings things to a euphoric close, and reminds us of the producer's ambidexterity.

At the forefront of jungle’s new wave, Tim Reaper joins forces with Comfort Zone on the drum & bass anthem ‘Subterranean’. One of the heaviest sonic technicians around, Reaper and his collaborator Comfort Zone offer up a quality tune, based around a familiar vocal sample.

Toby Tobias has been a long-time friend of the store, collaborating with the Phonica crew on one of their monthly DJ nights for almost a decade. A prolific produce under many pseudonyms, including Alphonse, and on the Rekids, Klasse Wrecks and Emotional Rescue labels, Toby’s ‘On My Mind’ contribution is a complex house-not-house, bassline-heavy wriggly groover that becomes more compelling at every listen.

NTS Radio presenter and Eglo artist Shy One has been attracting attention with an original sound that is a mixture of live percussion, and funk mixed with UK bass. Here, ’Uncle G’ offers exactly that, combining broken beat, heavy bass and jazz sensibilities for a breezy, refreshing offering.

Superabundance is back with Extrasolar, the new 2x12” hot wax album on Future Times. The duo of Jackson Ryland (Peach Discs, Fixed Rhythms, Rush Plus) and FT honcho Max D follow up 2021’s self-titled debut LP with a hyperfunk techno gallop, hurtling further out from where they began. Extrasolar’s tracks all burst into existence, produced in a quick, sometimes entirely improvised nature.

Cuts like “Sizable Jackfruit”, “20 Spectrum” and “Tempopalace” show off brash bursts of swinging loopy DJ creation, while “Reset” oscillates between cliff-hanging and solid ground time changes and “Crossfade Diving” slides thru wet streets with a paranoid step.

On tracks like “Perplexion”, “Dex Holo”, and closer “Goth Hi Tek”, the duo paints new shades of their sound, getting into a twist on synthpop, soundworlds and Cure progressions.“Perplexion” enters smudged shoegazing territory, smearing percussion in the mix with soaring chords.

“Particle Busters” repurposes industrial junk into soundsystem punk machinery. “We XL”, a rave slammer featuring one of DC’s best, Nativesun (Black Rave Culture) is for booming warehouses only. “Big Deal” breaks out the sliced funk and melted data. TIP!

Following up on their debut release of Herron’s ‘Lowflow’ EP, New York’s Club Night Club are back. For their second release as a label they have teamed up with mysterious Parisian producer Design Default to present a formidable club-centric four tracker. The ‘P.H.A.N.E.S’ EP represents the producer’s first official foray into club productions and does not disappoint. Consisting of three jagged peak time club joints plus a remix on the flip, the record is characterized by its playful balance of synthetic, futurist sound design alongside fierce percussive rhythms. The fusion results in a frenetic and at times punishing batch of club steamers. Across the three original tracks, the listener is delicately maneuvered through segments of pure textural chaos, masterfully teased out by the music’s creator. To round things off label co-founder Significant Other pulls out a sleazy remix for the B2. An 8pm, breakbeat riddled chugger which closes out the record in true CNC style

London based multidisciplinary artist and Daytimers internal team member Zar (Arun) is returning once again in 2023, this time on The Tabula Rasa Record Company, to release his second EP: “Unfurl”.

It is the next expression of progression in sound for Zar, a movement further into, above and beyond the foundations laid down from his debut EP “Practice Makes Miracles” - which was listed on Bandcamps’ “Best Electronic Music of March 2023” and described by DJ Mag as “a striking solo debut that sets Zar out as an exciting prospect in the sphere of electronic composition.”

Sitting at that murky midpoint between UK Garage, Tech-House & Bass, the songs literally bloom outwardly, wrapping around the listener leaving trails of familiarity, and feature the tendrils of earworm worthy melodies that strike a balance between serene, uplifting, dense and thoughtful, all whilst resting upon deep thumping drums, clever vocal sampling and unconventional song structures. As a follow up to an already ambitious debut EP, Unfurl is an incredibly full-filling listen.

Following the release of Limewax's Untitled and Speed Dealer Moms' Sdm-la8-441-114-211, Trickfinger and Aura T-09's Evar Records imprint is keeping its foot on the gas, officially introducing the arrival of its sub-label, Rave4evar. Embracing more of an outlaw mindset, Rave4evar was created as a place for rebellion to collide with rave, offering refuge for off-the-cuff releases, special projects and occasional one-off collaborations.

Ushering in the sub-label's inaugural release, Rave4evar is proud to present Chicago-based DJ, producer and new media artist S4m23's debut EP, Angelface. The five-track project, set to arrive on July 2nd via a limited edition cassette and digital download, combines haunting vocals with pounding kicks and rave synths to create a moving take on hardcore. Written and recorded during a weeklong session in April 2020, the creation of Angelface took place during a period of processing grave personal loss juxtaposed with the collective state of chaos, grief and fear brought on by the covid-19 pandemic.

Within that specific period of time, S4m23 channeled intense emotion to reflect how cathartic it can be to honor the connections we build with one another despite how frenetic and heart-wrenching the circumstances of a particular moment or experience can be. Pouring an immense spectrum of emotions into Angelface, these productions eschew simple repetition to create unexpectedly complex rhythms and textures that evoke the sounds of British club music and '90s rave, while simultaneously creating something entirely new.

Council Work returns with the next installment of their journey, this time with the Militant EP. Two original tracks from the label bosses Frankel & Harper, and keeping in theme with the previous releases, obtaining remixes from their favourite artists in the scene, they've enlisted 2 big remixers, this time from Salty Nuts boss and Cocoon regular Fabe, and Orbital London head honcho and rising UK star Jack Michael. The EP sticks to the signature Council Work sound, showcasing underground UK flavours with lots of garage and jungle influences, whilst showcasing more minimal and breaks textures and vibes.

Dima Disk is back in action & on the shelves with six tracks of dark & moody takes on jungle/breaks on freshly registered Surve Records. Our informants reported that the duo of Robert Nikolajev & Ragnar Rahuoja might have been sitting on this for a while. We last heard of them on Rubadub’s white label series in 2017. The wait is easily forgivable though –– take “Maribo” with its propelling bass-engines, high flying synth stabs & hi–hat skelter for starters. Sweaty! Or “Pahakas” full of mischievous funk & rumble plus that firm “Woooh!” sample. Smokey, energetic dance equipment for you & yours.

As one of the three co-founders of Washington D.C. production and DJ trio Black Rave Culture, James Bangura is no stranger to situating electronic music within its most purposeful and potent contexts. With this new duo of tracks, however, Bangura taps into a deep, personal internality, metabolising visceral experiences and personal transitions into unexplored phases of his musical life.

The bass-forward “Harrar” is a complex organism which operates on two planes: a sweat-drenched 150pm symphony of synth pulses, fidgety percussion, shimmies and distorted vocals, that falls into lockstep with a meditative, dubby bass tone that calmly swells and recedes. Emerging out of Bangura’s high intensity hardware jam sessions with friends and collaborators, both the depth and energetic fizz of “Harrar”’ are signified by its name, borrowed from Harrar Coffee & Roastery--a beloved Ethiopian coffee house and community meeting place in Washington D.C. that radiates warmth and familiarity.

“Witness Dub” occupies less of the senses, exploring a state of liminality through a contemplative deep house signature. Having emerged from an extended period of active duty in the military, Bangura had to navigate civilian life for the first time, causing him to process multiple culture shocks that stretched across culture, language, communication and identity. “Witness Dub” finds Bangura at this crossroad, juxtaposing the steady propulsion of kicks and drums with pensive minor key chords, as he begins to explore the other side of the self, letting the energy guide the music.

The next ten-inch cut of the Time Is Now series comes courtesy of Nicky Soft Touch. These four tracks are a taste of things to come, handpicked from an as-yet-unannounced double LP the Bristol native has had in the works since 2019. Nicky Soft Touch's recent outings include two dusty hip-hop dubplates on London's Ghost Notes Worldwide; for Lonely City Sampler he explores a more British sound. Using a tape deck and a pile of old jungle tapes, cut-up snippets were crafted into an audio collage balancing ambience with rave style crescendos. Driving dubwise bass dominates 'Lost In A Sea Of Rolling Eyes' while disrupted breakbeats meet stuttering chords in 'Lonely City Cut 4'. The closing track's garage-inflected UK techno beat is haunted by spaced out diva vocals, a melancholic mover for city nights.

If you thought the Erupt-ion was over and done with, think again. Another earful of heavy breaks and hardcore junglism have risen from the ashes to keep your residential area vibrating. This time, the ballistics are blasted out by the label's head man, Bullet S. Bullet uses his EP to tell a story of growing up around urban decay, and claustrophobic city centres. He translates that angst into three tunes' worth of furious beats and staccato riff overload, with the moody aesthetic to boot. This is the first sign of trouble, you cannot ignore it. Erupt Records was established in 2016 to cover tougher, faster styles of electronic dance music, with a view of openness towards introducing contemporary influences alongside the familiar; Hardcore that reflects today, not yesterday. The objective? Push the boundaries, keep the drums raw, compromise for noone. Grab the vinyl while you can to get yourself an exclusive bonus track which won't be on any digital releases of this EP, "No Loss".

Warning: Hazardously sour bangers! Mani Festo joins the SweetBox ranks with two acid hardcore jungle tekno A-bombs: ‘Toxic Waste’ and ‘Warehouse 2.0’. A true man of the moment, Mani’s finely tuned productions are in high demand right now. His catalogue boasts releases for the likes of Rupture, Hooversound, Wncl, E-Beamz and the Club Glow imprint he co-runs with Denham Audio, Borai and LMajor. His SweetBox debut starts deceptively slow, building up a head of steam via an incessant pulse and faint industrial chug. Once ‘Toxic Waste’ lets loose its slamming four-to-the-floor kick, however, it’s on a one-way train to total mayhem. Blistering breaks burst through the gloom as the track hurtles onwards like an unstoppable juggernaut, finally taking control in the form of clattering percussive carnage. Flipside ‘Warehouse 2.0’ sees a similar pairing of jackhammer kicks and a chunky breakbeat, this time sliced through by a ravenous acid line that rises and rises, until it threatens to swallow the track whole. Paired with gargantuan, psychedelic arpeggios, as the title suggests, this one’s foaming at the mouth for a warehouse to pack to the rafters. Another two unstoppable weapons for both the Mani Festo and SweetBox arsenals, ‘Toxic Waste’ / ‘Warehouse 2.0’ will be available on digital and limited edition 10” vinyl (SweetBox’s first 300 pressing) with hand-numbered, screen-printed sleeves.

On his latest full-length, Low End Activist swerves towards weightless grime and suspended hardcore miniatures to tell a very personal story. The UK-rooted producer continues his habit of zeroing in on a distinct approach for each release, leaving a logical breadcrumb trail of soundsystem science in his wake as he channels decades of bass absorption into 14 atmospheric cuts that prize patience and precision over obvious club functionality.

Municipal Dreams plays out as a semi-autobiographical tour through the Blackbird Leys estate that the Activist grew up on. It’s a lived reflection on inequality and the ripple effect it has in working class communities, using the sonic palette to set the mood and scattering pointed samples throughout to spell out the story.

In sampling the exhaust of a stolen Subaru Impreza, ‘TWOC’ looks back to the recreational car theft which was standard entertainment for the kids in his community. There’s an underlying idea that this ‘council estate sport’ wouldn’t have been so prevalent if there were public services and opportunities presented to the scores of disaffected youth looking for somewhere to direct their energy and frustration.

In ‘Just A Number (Institutionalised)’ LEA alludes to the shattered juvenile detention system, growing up seeing friends and family members locked up at ease with little to no support on being released back into society, just meant that the same cycles of behaviour would play out over and over.

‘Violence’ samples from a short film shot by the drama division of the Blackbird Leys Youth Club to evoke the physical threat which formed a background hum to life on the estate. The industrial mechanics of the local car factory, which served an integral role as a workplace for many in the community, gets sampled in ‘They Only Come Out At Night’ while the ‘Everyone I look up to are either junkies or criminals’ sample in ‘Broke’ looks to a lack of positive role models.

Municipal Dreams isn’t a one-note indictment of life on the estate, ‘Innocence’ captures the simplicity of a child at birth before their environment has time to shape them. The Hope interludes cut through the grim honesty of the longer tracks while a subtle thread of wry humour finds its way into some of the talking heads cutting through the signature LEA murk.

But honesty is the operative word here, and the message feels all the more meaningful at a time when the UK’s social divisions are laid bare in the wake of a devastating stretch of austerity. Returning to Blackbird Leys to shoot images for the photo-zine and album cover, the Activist found the local community centre being demolished. The local pub stands derelict, its faded Welcome sign a grimly ironic portent of the options facing children of the estate in the wider world.

Funnelling his memories, hopes and fears into a singular twist on the bass weight tradition, LEA captures evocative scenes that land somewhere between kitchen sink realism and rave futurism.

Dialling up the needlepoint rhythmic science and deadly restraint we hold so dear, SPD debuts on Sneaker Social Club with a taut four-tracker built for smashing systems with measured flair. It's no surprise to learn Will Sheppard has graced labels like Keysound, Ec2a and Roska Kicks + Snares in recent times, given his sound taps into the UK bassweight lineage while maintaining a necessary futuristic tilt.

'Genbu' deals in the kind of stripped back, snaking sequences that keep a body of people rolling deep into the dance, powered by sounds so crisp you'd think they'd slipped out of a trouser press. Maintaining this sonic poise, 'Systema' is a lean, bleep-speckled roller with a firm grip on the square wave snarls lurking below the midrange.

'Willman' rides a choppier groove, but still Sheppard holds down the dance with a monk-like patience, finding power in the art of holding back before opening out into the subtly emotional swathes of 'ok' to round the record out. The devil is in the detail, and there are deep-diving layers to the sound of SPD, but this is a specific angle on club music that prizes subtlety and meditation over brash arrangement swerves and bait hype trysts. Banoffee Pies Originals continue with the 26th release in the series. D. Tiffany returns to the imprint with another collab outing, this time partnering with Ciel as the duo combine under their Psychedelic Budz moniker. Two of Canadas finest deliver two dynamic, off kilter club hitters with a special appearance from Adam Pits under his Lil Mushroom alias. Heavy and versatile productions for dance floor rotation from artists who have carefully honed their craft.

Berlin based, D. Tiffany of Vancouver, is a DJ, Producer and label boss at Planet Euphorique. Now returning to the Banoffee imprint following their Plushmanagements inc insert with regularfantasy back in 2016. A welcomed entry from prog trance revivalist who’s essential output continues to blossom.

Toronto based multi disciplinary artist Ciel whose contributions to the music sphere remain committed to diversity, inclusivity & community with a prolific career as a producer, DJ, pianist & composer ++ They’ve found involvement across groundbreaking projects like Discwoman, co founded label Parallel Minds & released notable contributions to labels such as !K7, Peach Discs, Coastal Haze & UU, all while continuing their monthly position as a Rinse FM resident.

Thousand Yard Stare is re:ni's 3rd 12" and her first on re:lax, the label and club-night she runs with Laksa. Following on from records from Harba, Jurango and Laksa, the ep stays true to the imprint's exploration of emotive high-tempo club records which marry the character and energy of the hardcore continuum with technical precision and slick sound design. With her distinguished alien vocal chops it’s proper ‘get IN UR Hed’ business. The title is a nod to the dissociative state we can find ourselves in as a result of trauma, and how creativity/music is able to illustrate emotions that words cannot. Sonically the ep is continuation of the bass-driven, vocal-led 140-150bpm territory explored on her Timedance and Ilian Tape records, this time more explicitly drawing on inspiration from electro, drill and jungle in the dynamic drum programming, growling 808 bass and icy snares that feature across the 3 tracks.

Bassline veteran and all-round soundsystem sorcerer Marcel Deptford lands on Sneaker Social Club with two ruff-n'-tuff rave-n'-b re-flips that run as a prelude to big things to come.

This is the first time you will have heard a record under the name Marcel Deptford, but he's got serious skin in the game with an imposing history in the legendary bassline scene from the late-00s. His records as DS1 are the stuff of legend for anyone keyed into the Niche-centric sound, but more recently he's put out some serious heat as Haider running his own Breaker Breaker label and popping up on Aus and the like.

If you're a fan of millennial RnB there's every chance you'll recognise the vocals that breathe life into Deptford's two tracks for this Sneaker release. Moving beyond simple edit territory, the voices are bedded deep down into gritty rave productions that boast the kind of dirt bag sonics that call straight back to the OG days of breakbeat hardcore. 'Rock The Boat' has bloated bass pushing into the red, clattering breaks chopped up with a rugged swagger and a dreamy, haunted dose of dub poured all over the vocals.

'Make It Hot' has a lighter, swung feel which nods to garage, but there's still plenty of weight on the low end. Once the lead vocal sample steps back to open up the space, Deptford's knack for strong melodic hooks comes through in a blown out arp line which the bassline dutifully follows.

Hitting every sweet spot from the low-down dirty rave receptors via moody head-nodding restraint on to iconic vocals, Marcel Deptford shows exactly what he's capable on this release ahead of a more extensive dive into his legacy, due further down the line.

Forest On Stasys takes the plunge here and launches a new label, Aura Sonora, which debuts with a hugely limited and high-quality new 12" from the boss. The imprint will be "a platform designed for sound experimentation" and the first missive backs that up with a great blend of drum & bass, half-time and techno. 'Magnetismo' is a prickly opener with slippery rhythms underpinned by bold bass. 'Domo' is a darker sound with menacing low ends and prickly percussive patterns while 'Sideral' is another late-night prowler with low sling sounds, eerie atmospheres and a real sense of futurism. A great start to life for Aura Sonora.

Genre-defining garage label Instinct is back with another one of its lip-curling, rip-snorting and floor-destroying EPs, this time from Bullet Tooth. All the old school signifiers you need are present and correct in the opening cut 'Don't Look Back' with its naughty bass, shuffling drum loops and chopped vocals. 'Can You Hear Me Call' is a more crisp and lithe, 2-step leaning jam with a wobbly low end and late night urban menace. Last but not least is the speed-garage-inspired 'Next To U' with its pulsating bass and aching vocal hooks right up top. Brilliant tackle as ever.

Italian house artist Flashmob's debut album Sundown is introduced with this fine four-track sampler which offers a glimpse into the diverse sounds of the full release. The opening track, 'Right Now,' features South African wordsmith Lazarusman on vocals and delivers a soulful, groove-filled house anthem with a positive message. The title track is a deep, melodic masterpiece that blends electronic music's darker and more emotive elements. Then 'Time Chance' takes a tech-house approach that showcases Flashmob's more intricate, driving beats. The sampler closes with 'Hands All Over Me' a dark, late-night roller with haunting, ethereal vocals that are perfect for the after-hours.

Jeremy again shows on The Lights EP why is highly regarded as one of the OG's of bass music, having been a producer of non stop consistent releases for the last 20+ years. Desde los oídos de un sapo We are very excited to announce a new chapter in our journey. Here we are blazing a new trail, making our way to document and leave a first-class record of sound design, Field Recording and cutting-edge electronic music made in South America. We present our first album, 'Desde los oídos de un sapo', by our favourite amphibian, a man ahead of his time, the Uruguayan Lechuga Zafiro. "How could I call it my sound if I had not found it myself?"___ States the artist, who finished forging his outstanding musical identity based on field recordings. Metal, wood, plastic, glass, rock, toads, birds, sea lions, pigs and water (in its various forms) captured in Uruguay, El Salvador, Chile, China, Argentina and Portugal, coexist and exchange harmonic and dynamic properties. By altering, editing, or simply letting the sounds manifest themselves, Lechuga generates a wide and complex rhythmic-timbral universe. These are 7 tracks that never cease to have consistency and a fierce character.

Lechuga's debut album is a milestone in Latin electronic music. This document opens a new territory, one so genuine and challenging, so real and fertile, that we are confident it will be a must-have anywhere on the planet. This collaboration is our new contribution to the mission of contemplation, so please stop, come to this frog's ear, to feel with both Pablo and us.

Keefy G has been lighting up the dancefloors of his native West Yorkshire and beyond for some time now. His sets are as slick as his hair and here he branches out with some fresh slabs of wax on the mighty Dungeon Meat's new Slabs label. It's a hook-up that makes sense given that he grew up listening to sets by label founders Tristan and Brawther and his own take on their template is compelling indeed. 'Like Dis' is rock solid deep house with crisp drums and slamming bass. 'Wildstyle' lays down another heavy house groove with glitchy perc and well-treated vocals that add plenty of sleaze.
