No vocals, chants, or breakdowns - this DJ friendly cut is suitable for Disco, House, and Rave settings.

Moar's skilful hands and exceptionally well-trained ears combine beautifully on all of his edits, and this is no exception. Full of space and room to breathe, the A-side's 'i' is a deep house/disco number and is a sparkling gem of a track. I can't tell you what the sources are, but the xylophone layered and looped over the dubby beats is a sweet spot you'll want to taste over and over. It could be a warm-up track, mixed into a peak time set, and is most definitely one for the late night set. Over on the flip this huge classic funky song has been beautifully re-rubbed by Moar, this fattens and tightens an already phat and tight classic groove with some electro flourishes. A very respectful mix perfect for the dancefloor! Hand stamped records & limited press.

Michael The Lion and Natasha Kitty Katt began collaborating as Natasha found a second home in Philadelphia. The two have a mutual love of classic disco and found a kindred spirit in Suki Soul, who has been tearing up the scene the last few years in Northern England. I Found Peace features Michael on guitar and Natahsha on drum machines and synths alongside Michael’s long-time studio band mates. Classical composer and legendary Pittsburgh hip hop producer Jules Krishnamurti adds bass guitar and University of Pennsylvnia jazz ensemble leader Dan Paul plays keyboards on this incredible modern disco classic. Pontchartrain brings all the right touches to the club mix, along side some heavy house mixes by Tonarunur (aka B.G. Baarregaard) to round out the first Whiskey Disco release in several years.

Massimo Vanoni come back in excellent shape by producing this amazing EP "I Wanna Funk" for his label, Atop Records. Four special reworkings for fiery dancefloors. He opens the dance with a Tribal Funk with the insertion of a female Disco voice recognizable by the most. Moving on to a theme plus Nu Disco Electronic for guaranteed warm up effect. While the B side starts off as openly Funky without compromise, the title is right "Let There Be Funk", followed by a dark Disco Funk track "From The Ghetto" to close this beautiful work. Coherence and research make Massimo Vanoni a producer always on the piece.

It’s back to the heart of disco with the next release — our sixtieth! — in Most Excellent Unlimited’s long-running series of collaborations with master editor Danny Krivit, this installment on long-play 12-inch vinyl.

Our A-side features the work of Euro-disco maestro Alec Constandinos, whose symphonic suites and long form arrangements for stars like Cerrone and Don Ray made him an essential ingredient on many a glittering dancefloor in the late ’70s. Love & Kisses was one of his earliest disco projects, and one of his most popular. Their song (the “band” was a studio fabrication of Constandinos) “I Found Love” stretches across the entire side of an LP in its original form, but for discerning disc jockeys who leaned towards the funkier side of the spectrum, the percussion and bass breakdown is where it’s at. And if you are a long-time follower of Mr. K, it will come as no surprise that it is here that he focuses his metaphoric razor on the iconic breakdown, and we are left with a tough, driving track that will suit throwback sets as well as slot nicely into modern uptempo programming. As an added bonus, stick around to the very end when Krivit lets the song’s memorable acapella sample (“And I suppose you thought it was all over??”) finish it out.

It simply does not get much bigger than Donna Summer in the world of disco. Her song “Heaven Knows,” a duet with Brooklyn Dreams singer “Bean” Esposito, is one of the many gems in her catalog, and one that still evokes powerful reactions in heads, both old and new. Produced by the dream team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, the power and groove are propulsive and indisputable. Krivit begins with an extended "Mac Arthur Park" horn crescendo that teases the emotion before introducing a newly stripped down singalong verses and chorus of “Heaven Knows”. As the song progresses, a fabulous building effect until the end, a six-minute run through the clouds, enveloped in the ecstasy of that same horn crescendo. A sudden finale, fading into the ether, takes us out and leaves the listener (and DJ) with an open path of which musical road to take next, a master’s touch from an editor who excels at his craft.

One of Fake Blood’s most seminal hits, the 2009 nu-disco / electro powerhouse ‘I Think I Like It’, gets a much-deserved reissue for RSD 2023. This instantly recognizable, high energy dancefloor destroyer comes backed with Fake Blood’s debut single ‘Mars’, also reissued here for the first time since initial 2008 release. With copies of the original Fix Your Accent EP that ‘I Think I Like It’ was first housed on, having sold for over £100 on Discogs, it will be a welcome sight for many to see this available for the first time on red 7” vinyl nestled in a fresh picture sleeve.

Some smooth remix action going on here!! Italian DJ and producer Gianluca Pandullo a.k.a. I-Robots has chosen six of his favourite Electronic Emergencies tracks to reconstruct. The second part of a collaboration after a digital-only compilation of EE tracks by the founder of Opilec Music in 2020, the six rigorous reconstructions on this double 12-inch are long, luscious, and full of energy. Move Like Rays by Machinegewehr was injected with a high-energy vibe, while Das Ding's Want Need was transformed into an electro classic. Skeleton Head's queer anthem Beaten, Bloody, Bruised was given the percussion treatment, Danza Obscura by Borgie got an Italo Wave twist, and New Wave legends Chris Davis and M/a/n/o/s had their tracks worked over by dubby electro and minimal techno. Electronic Emergencies reconstructed by I-Robots consolidates the label's frontier electronic underground reputation.

The incomparable Dimitri From Paris returns with the latest installment of his acclaimed DFP Vaults series, showcasing the deep cuts that solidify his reputation as one of the premier remixers, DJs, and champions of crate-digging culture in dance music today. This particular release holds a special place in Dimitri's heart, as he explains in his own words below:

"James Brown, the undisputed godfather of soul and the hardest working man in show business, is one of the few artists for whom the term 'legend' feels like an understatement. With a career spanning five decades, countless albums and singles, his unique voice and sound have become synonymous with dance music. Beyond his own recordings, thousands of James Brown samples have permeated our ears since sampling became a cornerstone of music production in the mid-80s—across genres from Hip-Hop to House, Drum 'n' Bass, and everything in between.

This release is particularly meaningful to me. Since my early days as a DJ, I’ve watched James Brown light up dance floors across cultures and generations with his inimitable swagger and irresistible energy. I bought my first James Brown record in 1981—Soul Syndrome, featuring the track 'Funky Men.' At the time, I was a bit disappointed as it didn’t have the classic 'Funky Drummer' style I was expecting, so it ended up buried in a pile of other James Brown classics.

Fast forward over 40 years, and I hear 'Funky Men' again, played by my good friend Alex From Tokyo, and it sounds fresher than ever. The unusual disco beat accompanying James Brown’s vocal, which once made the track stand out in a strange way, has now become its greatest asset! I quickly took it to the edit board, using a mix of old and new techniques, to create my 'Special Version' of 'Funky Men,' which has already been tried and tested on dance floors near you.

For the flip side, I wanted to explore the later, lesser-known disco side of James Brown. The J.B.'s, his personal live band, released a few tracks of their own under his production. Most were instrumentals featuring the breakbeat-heavy sound typically associated with James Brown. However, 'Just Wanna Make You Dance,' with female vocals by Maxxi, offers an almost Caribbean disco vibe. Uniquely, it was released as a 12’’ single with a DJ-friendly remix that included different breaks and drops—something quite rare for a James Brown production at that time. Here again, I’ve given it my own 'Special Version' treatment, respectfully enhanced for maximum DJ impact."

DFP Vaults is the sister label to Le-Edits Records, both of which are highly collectible. While Le-Edits focuses on classic songs remixed from original master tapes, DFP Vaults takes a more eclectic, DJ-friendly approach, spotlighting underdogs and unreleased versions straight from Dimitri's vault. True to Le-Edits' highest production standards, this release features state-of-the-art mastering, cutting, and pressing, all housed in a heavy 'Tip-On' vintage replica custom sleeve.

JFR 002 is a Funk the best class, groove and atomic impact bass, horn sections and incredible vocals, a song that makes us faithfully relive the mood of the 70s. On B side takes the Soul direction, in any case another pearl made by Black Fire. Don't miss it.

Wonderful edit king Mr K is back with more of his superb scalpel work on his own Most Excellent Unltd label. This latest 7" tackles some mighty original material in the form of Steve Wonder's gloriously uplifting 'If You Really Love Me.' It is just as life-affirming and joyous in Mr K's hands with some extra drum weight and drawn-out grooves that will energise any dancefloor. On the flip is 'Time Of The Season' which taps into some golden funk and soul with soaring vocals and big horns over a killer, infectious bassline.

Monstrous mid-tempo Disco groovings on this one, giving the Avergae White Band a run for their money. Doc Severinsen, the renowned Jazz hornsman dropping some tight ass Funk on this rare as hens teeth Epic white label promo. This is a fully legit reissue borne out of an Above Board / Sony music collaboration, repressed from the official sources. The original 1976 promo 12" had the same track on both sides as promos often did back then so we've decided to include a special version on the flip, a lovingly tweaked re-edit from the cult leader himself - DJ Harvey. Harv's edit has been around for a minute, but this version backing the OG 76 Disco mix makes this 12" a bonafide 'must grab' for all Disco enthusiasts

Mike Maurro is back at it. Taking the keys to the Philadelphia International Records vault and plucking out two certified classics The O'Jays - I Love Music and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes feat. Teddy Pendergrass - Wake Up Everybody to give them a little Maurro re-edit magic. Officially licensed and taken from the master tapes, Maurro extends each track in all the right places, looping sections up, echoing elements and keeping everyone calling out for more. A track filled with textural character, ‘DM Tones’ is an eclectic mix of sensations and sounds burned into steady rhythmic motifs. We’re invited into the ‘deep mist’, one that is ‘too deep for comfort’. Bouncing back and forth between decisions, declarations and uncertainties, the phrase ‘I don’t know where I’m going but I’m heading out’ is folded into the components of the music neatly; impulse mixing with ambivalence.

Mr. K is back with a tribute to one of the great tape editors that updates a timeless DJ crate staple, plus a proto-hip hop instrumental that works as a standalone groove or a useful disco tool, specially reworked for maximum sonic potential on the compact vinyl format.

First up is an extended edit of the Frankie Beverly and Maze sureshot “Before I Let Go.” Originally released on the best-selling 1981 Live In New Orleans LP, the track was not actually a concert recording but a new studio track made to fill out the final “D-side” of the double album live release. A smash hit on Black radio right out of the box, “Before I Let Go” was chosen as a single and went on to become a must-play standard for parties of all varieties, from club nights to family barbecues. 1991 saw the noteable edit on Moo Records that quickly became a DJ favorite with its skillfully extended intro and outro. Some 30 years later it can be revealed that this was the work of beloved NYC DJ and editor Gail “Sky” King, a formidable technician with the razor and tape, who considered this one of her best works. “Gail’s edit was unfortunately pressed at the lowest quality,” Krivit explains, “and as good and useful as the edit was, I often chose not to play it because of its harsh quality.” Working from a new, high resolution source, Mr. K carefully recreated some of King’s iconic highlights, while optimizing it for the 7-inch format.

Our flip side is a bit more unusual, but also a fun and funky one. legendary hip-hop pioneer DJ Hollywood, “Hollywood’s Message” was a self-released single from the man who was one of the first to grab the microphone at a jam and rhyme over records. In this case however, as a backing track for his rhymes Hollywood took a shortcut and used the renowned “Love Is The Message” edit created by Mr. K that repeatedly runs the groovy clavinet break from MFSB’s tune. Mr. K tightens up the instrumental chant version for it's first time on a 7" release, also adding a touch of Millie Jackson "Now That I Got Your Attention Again" at the top of the song as an intro, which in itself could be used to introduce almost anything, all custom fitted for 7-inch vinyl.

Back in 2009 My Rules label owner Justin Van Der Volgen released a mix cd done completely with his own edits titled Try To Find Me Vol 2. The mix was received incredibly well and had fans scrambling for years to try and spot the track list. It earned a 4.5 review on Resident Advisor, and had a certain rather known and respected DJ opening their sets with it.

In the Felbm project, Dutch multi-instrumentalist Eelco Topper steps away from his previous synthesiser-laden sounds as Falco Benz, towards a much looser, simpler and sketch-like approach. Picking up a number of acoustic instruments, he began experimenting with a Tascam 4-track tape recorder and allowed these sketches to flourish.
The result is Tape 1 and Tape 2, a two-part project stretching across fifteen tracks - encompassing fluttering piano melodies, subtle jazz drums, rumba rhythms and soothing ambience. The jazz element links back to Topper’s childhood. “I grew up playing drums, switched to playing piano at sixteen and in the meantime I produced hip-hop beats,” he recalls. “I went to study jazz piano at the Utrecht Conservatory, which I finished with pain and effort… I was interested more in electronic and present-day music.”
This mix of being rooted in traditional jazz composition whilst searching for something more contemporary is the perfect encapsulation of these recordings. Tape 1’s jazz roots are palpable and as things move into Tape 2, it takes on a neo-classical, psychedelic soundscape and cinematic quality.

As ever, the next project on Opilec Music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss I-Robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders Ahzz.
This track was first released on Land of Hits, a label run by Peter Brown (who also wrote "Material Girl" for Madonna) and Michael Campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by Opilec Music.
The track, 'New York's Movin'' was huge on the New York disco scene and was played by the likes of David Mancuso at The Loft, Larry Levan at The Paradise Garage and by Nicky Siano at Studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern New York tastemakers Kenny Dope, DJ Spinna, Danny Krivit and his Body & Soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like Motor City Drum Ensemble and Bulljun.
I-Robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical.
‘New York's Movin'' (I-Robots Reconstruction Take I) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums.
A retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. This version is featured on the new I-Robots - Reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year Anniversary release.
‘New York's Movin'' (I-Robots Reconstruction Take II) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk.
This is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves Opilec Music work on only the most special projects.

Marcel Vogel aka Em Yee joins the RNT roster with a 4-pack of unsurprisingly heavy edits. The Lumberjacks In Hell label boss takes us on a little trip through one of his own eclectic sets, starting with the oddball boogie of You Move Me and then moving on to the hands-in-the-air positivity of Spreading Energy.
On the flip it’s the up-tempo afro burner 'Don’t Be Sabi Say', with the 12” concluding on the whimsically catchy 'I Wish I Knew The Words'. Tried and tested and found true!

Mallorcan mastermind Joan Bibiloni gets two key works from his esteemed catalogue officially licensed via Gouranga Music and edited by the remix maestro Ray Mang. On the A side the boogie brilliance of the aptly named ‘The Boogie’, extended and echoed in all the right places to form a true dancefloor winner. On the flip, Mang turns this classic Balearic Bibiloni gem ‘Val, I Vuw Ya’ that has an acoustic guitar and chromonica spinning around each other from the three and a half minute original into a hypnotic six minute wonder.

Back once again with the Myedits master. An audacious single sided weapon from the Moxy Edits crew, blending whomping speed garage basslines, a classic vocal of supreme stature and a slick, skipping beat to produce another slice of dancefloor destroying gold. The track first appeared when Darius Syrossian dropped it at the Brooklyn Timewarp after party b2b with Seth Troxler, and lead to people scrambling for a track I.D when videos emerged. The week after it was one of the standout tunes at the WeAreFstvl Mexico festival

8 reworks of rare and unexpected italian disco and funky pop music from the 1970ies. Not the usual electronic Italodisco classics, but here come some more organic sounding band-disco music from the time of 1976 - 82. Positive vibrations and high quality dance pop reworked for today’s advanced dancefloors by Toy Tonics head honcho Kapote and his Italian friends BPlan and Paul Older. Some of these edits already have been released as bandcamp only, but because of extreme demand for vinyl Toy Tonics did this limited edition double vinyl release.

Brazilian DJ and producer Rafael Cancian delivers a veritable United Nations of diverse international disco flavor for his first outing on Razor-N-Tape.
The A side delivers cheeky horns and gyrating synths with Ç'est La Douceur, followed by a flurry of string stabs and vocal fourishes with theI Italo-tinged Fascino Di Milano. On the flip we get a taste of Rafa’s native Brasilian boogie with the stomping Frágil, and the EP winds down with the sensual slow groover Besos Libres.

Following Chicago’s tradition in special edits and dj personal reworks to extend crucial parts and surprise the dancers, Theo Parrish has always sparkled his legendary sets with his own versions of classic and obscure disco, funk and soul cuts to maximum effect! Some of those were available to fans in mid 2000s via the Ugly Edits series, now it’s finally time for the LOVELY EDITS.

Officially licensed and using the original parts from the master tapes, here we have Theo’s takes on two absolute staples: BT EXPRESS ‘Peace Pipe’ and GEORGE DUKE ‘I Want You For Myself’.

Side A is an edit of the jazz-funk intro track “Main Title” from the original soundtrack of 1974 gritty subway hijack film The Taking Of The Pelham One Two Three. The soundtrack with its funk, jazzy score has been a well that hip-hop artists have repeatedly drawn from. Most notably, “Krazy Kings Too” by Company Flow, “Suprize Packidge” by Mix Master Mike, & “I’m Set” by Goodie Mob.

Side B is a subtle edit of “One Way Glass” by Manfred Mann Chapter Three, which is taken from their self-titled 1969 LP. Manfred Mann Chapter Three were a British experimental jazz rock band, 1969 to 1970, founded by South African keyboard player Manfred Mann & long-time partner Mike Hugg, both former members of the group Manfred Mann. The track was sampled by many, most notably by The Prodigy for their 2009 track “Stand Up” & on “Headbanger” by Krafty Kuts in 2011.

On the flip you'll find two slow n sexy tracks form the label guests Raregems. B1 an B2 are two very rare gems indeed from the duo archive!! Record Store Day 2021 Release. Mr. K takes on two different disco moods in the latest in his long-running series of edits on 45. Danny Krivit’s edit of Tony Orlando’s “Don’t Let Go” was released in Japan in 2012 and immediately became a sought-after, impossible to find rarity. Orlando’s version of “Don’t Let Go” was released at the height of the disco era, but the song itself was already a well-worn pop standard, having been covered by numerous artists before the pop singer tried his hand at it, switching things up with a percolating disco groove. “I never expected to rave about a Tony Orlando record,” wrote Vince Aletti in his Record World column in June of 1978, “but this one’s really terrific… My pick for a summer refresher.” The Jimmy Simpson mix on the original 12-inch follows the vocals with a long instrumental section that teases the various elements provided by the Muscle Shoals band (guitar, vibes, strings, and above all a sinuous synth) back in over the relentless bass and drums. Danny’s edit, which he’s trimmed down for its debut on 7-inch, works with this instrumental break and more than lives up to Aletti’s description as an addictive warm weather jam. From the moody instrumental sound of “Don’t Let Go” we move to the bright uptempo vocal track "I Fall In Love Everyday." In spite of the relative obscurity of this fabulous but lesser-known cut, it comes with a sparkling pedigree. “I Fall In Love Everyday” was written by Jay Graydon (whose credits also include “Turn Your Love Around” for George Benson and “Breakin’ Away” for Al Jarreau), produced by Motown ace Mickey Stevenson (who wrote “Dancing In the Street”) and arranged by David Foster, who was just making the transition from session keyboardist to the superstar songwriter/arranger he’d become. The backing track was first used for singer/TV personality Jaye P. Morgan’s version of the song a year earlier, but you certainly can’t blame the team for reusing the music when the band included studio heavyweights like Harvey Mason, Lee Ritenour, Ray Parker Jr., and Kenny Loggins. Danny’s creative edit fashions a clean, DJ-friendly instrumental intro where none existed on the original, and gives new life to a track that’s sure to bring some sunshine to dancefloors. As always, these unique selections from Mr. K’s personal stash are cut on a loud, club-ready 7-inch pressing.

The tom-tom heavy tribal rhythm of “Wela Wela” is one of the rawest, hardest cuts from the band Black Blood, a conglomeration of musicians from the central part of the African continent who were based in Belgium. The group had a breakout single in 1974 with the exotica-leaning “A.I.E. (A Mwana)” but never were able to quite capture the excitement that single generated with their follow up records. We can only guess that songs like “Wela Wela” were simply way too heavy for the pop tastes of the day, since the groove is a beast! — an acid rock tangent of the “Soul Makossa” riff that radiates pure energy. Mr. K aserts “It’s an incredible song to dance to, but was not very DJ friendly, and I never seem to hear other DJs play it... or even talk about it.” Originally debuted on his Grass Roots album, Mr. K's new rearrangement should change that, especially now that it's been made available on this hard hitting, portable 7-inch format.

Originally released the same year as Black Blood’s debut, “Komi Ke Kenam (Fish & Funjee)” was discovered and distributed by a small independent Brooklyn label that featured many other incredible African bands of the 70's. The song opens with a tough breakbeat (subtly extended by Mr. K on our release), and rumbles over a funky bassline and slicing wah-wah guitar before bursting out with a sax-led climax, a gritty get-down jam if there ever was one.

Both cuts have been remastered expressly for DJ play and are loud and clubworthy, in new extended edits that tease every last bit of funk from the originals.

We have a subtly edit of “Soul Town” by The Motherhood, the psychedelic 1969 LP “I Feel So Free. Motherhood was the unlikely name of Klaus Doldinger's psychedelic fusion band, who eventually transmuted into the bands Passport (Klaus Doldinger, Lothar Meid & Udo Lindenberg) & Hallelujah (Paul Vincent & Keith Forsey). “Soul Town” appears as the B-side to the first single “Back In The Grass”, which fetches ~$275. It was produced by Siegfried E. Loch, & written/arranged by Paul Nero. Many will recognize it as the closing track on the Ocean’s 13 soundtrack. It’s a psychedelic, jazz-funk bomb that punches hard.

I have been wanting both of these jazz-funk nuggets on 7-inch for a minute now, so much love to the GSC crew!

Any of us who grew up on Sesame Street in the 1970s will know this A-side righ away. “The Pinball Number Count” (or Pinball Countdown) is a collective title referring to the 11 one-minute animated segments on the TV series Sesame Street that teach children to count to 12 by following the journey of a pinball through a fanciful pinball machine. These segments are notable for the colorful, imaginative animation as well as the funkysoundtrack with vocals by The Pointer Sisters. It was produced in 1976 by Imagination, Inc. in San Francisco, California for the Children's Television Workshop & debuted on Sesame Street during Season 8 .

Samosa Records dips its toes back into the Afrikano waters with Volume 3 of the Afro themed, genre-busting series and features four deadly tracks from some of Samosa’s most trusted lieutenants.

Breaking the ice as the first track of this exceptional EP is Vincent Galgo and ‘African Rebel’. Mr Galgo has clearly read the brief here – giving us a 125bpm marauder that’s a melting pot of unstoppable horns, furious rhythms and an Afro-pop style bass that is the beating heart of the track.

Track 2 is Samosa regular Frank Virgilio who introduces us to his ‘Mistress’. As a straight up jazz-infused, mid-tempo rhythmic chugger, ‘Mistress’ quickly gets down to the important business of racking up the beats and instrumentation. The generous spread of guitar riffs, assertive bass and organ stabs are expertly lifted by the layered and always rolling drums and bongos induce a trance-like state of mind, so be warned!

On the B-Side Samosa newcomer Casper Leo wears his Tribal heart on his sleeve with the enchanting and utterly captivating jangler - ‘Tom Tom’. You can never have too much Kora guitar and ‘Tom Tom’ has lashings of it, with delicious sprinkles of melodic Marimba – perfect for West African sunsets.

Closing the EP off in style is Afro beats grand master, Lego Edit and the filthy-sexy ‘El Safari’. No other producer can take the essence of the Afro beat structure and bend it to their will like Lego Edit can. Like a late night fist-fight in Club Coco Bongo, ‘El Safari’ punches its way out of the doors. A slinky, wily alley cat of a tune that digs deep with its claws and doesn’t let go and another masterpiece from Lego Edit.

Afrikano Vol.3 has done the impossible and set the bar even higher for this wonderfully diverse Samosa series. We want more. We want ‘4’. With this in your record box, you’ll come with a warning.

It took a long time, a lot of telephone conversations, a lot of pleading, digging, sweat and tears to simply find out what TONY'S SLICE was after hearing it on Mark's Parkway Mastermix.
Turns out its MKVIIs attempt at recreating a live mix by Tony Humphries he heard on Kiss cutting 2 copies of the phone conversation back and forward forever.
With EV#7 looming we knew this would be a perfect opportunity to have a guest on the series, so we persisted and broke him down and he finally gave in to the pressure.

In addition to TONYS SLICE, MKVII has turned in a superb acid work out in the form of CASE STUDY 9.

Following a 2020 debut on DJ Monchan’s Dailysession Records, Tinker’s Knob returns with a five-tracker on a new imprint, Pinehurst Music. “These edits were selected from projects dating back to 2017,” he explains, “and most of the revisions have to do with structure and arrangement, which are indispensable. I’m beholden to the original musicians and producers for providing the ‘bones’ of these edits. Some of the recordings are uncommon, some less so, but each has elements of magic, sparks blowing off of a burning branch that drove me to follow them into the night.” Highlights from the collection include: “Juice,” an early Tom Moulton mix refreshed and dripping with strings (fiddle, not philharmonic); “Thief,” a looped-up boogie number with a break that goes all the way across the urban highway; and “Happy Air Dance,” a heartfelt homage to the late Hamilton Bohannon. Limited to 212 copies.

Mr. K is back again with a double-sider that tackles the ups and downs of love and does it in fabulous style with two solid soul classics.

Yvonne Fair was a veteran of the soul music world when she finally got the chance to record her first full length album in 1975. She had recorded multiple singles under the guidance of James Brown (her “I Found You” was reworked by Brown into the chart-topper “I Got You (I Feel Good)”) and, after leaving the JB camp for the auspices of Motown, a clutch of 7-inches with Norman Whitfield. These were gathered together to form her first (and only) full-length, but before the album was completed a final song was added to fill things out. This last minute touch would turn out to be the crowning achievement of her career. “It Should’ve Been Me” didn’t seem to be a notable addition at first. The song was originally done by Kim Weston a decade earlier and then by Gladys Knight. But Fair’s version had something special. In addition to the novel addition of a percolating drum machine pulse, Fair imbued the lyrics with a heartfelt sincerity and gruff emotion that touched listeners in a way that other versions had missed. Released as a single in the UK in late ’75, the song rose to the top ten of the British charts by February of the following year, inspiring Motown to release it as a US single. The song never replicated its UK success in the States, but went on to have a long life as a staple of drag performances and gay club life. Gay club life being the heart of all great club life, it’s only natural that the impact of the song has continued to spread, from Adeva’s hit house version in 1991 to Miley Cyrus’s recent revival of the song. Danny Krivit pays tribute to this storied history with his own version, a simple yet effective edit that stays true to the original but gives DJs a little more room (and fans a little more time to sing along!) than the all-too-brief original.

Continuing on our theme of lovelorn loss and redemption, Mr. K turns his attention to the New Birth’s “Brand New Lover” for our B-side. While the original slowly moves from the tentative, immediate aftermath of breakup to the eventual positive path forward, Krivit’s edit jumps straight to the joyous resolution to find new love, riding a delicious call and response chorus punctuated by signature breakdowns from master producer Harvey Fuqua. Danny’s edit provides a natural uplifting opportunity that never stops building over the course of its extended five minutes. Until now, the track has only been available on the group’s debut 1970 full-length, and never on a 7-inch single.

As always, this release has been mastered to the highest standards and is certain to find a spot in the bags of discerning listeners and DJs alike.

About a year ago an odd delivery was received at the shop from an unknown sender in Los Angeles with an ancient looking duffle bag carrying a hand full of tape reels, there was a note and it read: "If this ain't 'Balearische', I dunno what is" (in all caps). Upon extensive magnetic tape baking and freezing recovery techniques we soon realised how fortune can sometimes choose to flash its genitals at you in the strangest of ways. Here were 3 previously unreleased demo-sounding mixes of the one and only "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe". A side is an almost 9 minute patient build up of the theme, clearly too long to be released back in the days of radio play, a beatless off ramp for all the strings and piano to shine, up until the percussion and vocals climax. B side continues to explore the deconstructive process with an isolated "pianopella" version and then following with an instrumental groove version focusing on the rhythm section. The vinyl-only DJ-oriented A&R Edits makes a return with a new 12” EP ‘Disco Mondo’ / ‘In The City’. Courtesy of the influential Rinder & Lewis production team, ‘Mondo Disco’, originally issued in 1975, became a firm favourite with underground DJs and disco lovers, this playful yet purposeful rework boosts the track’s drive with an eye on the contemporary dancefloor.
Marshall Hain’s hazy/lazy ‘Dancing In The City’, a much-loved memento of the summer of 1978, was a huge UK hit, reaching #3 on the singles chart. Offering a perfect soundtrack to sun-kissed beaches and blissed-out festivals, this rework breaths a new lease of life into this sonic delight.

The return of the Way Back Wednesday label sees Twson (Pop Shop Edits) join the team and deliver two sleazy disco reworks, plus label boss Ron Bacardi drop a tight edit of a fiery funkin’ fave.
