As we approach the threshold leading us back to the Black Lodge on our transformative 8th journey, we are escorted through and beyond the mystical portal by the vigorous and fierce forces of Sneaker. Portrait in House is a collection of 3 resonant works, which are unified into a singular vision within its uncanny language that is rooted deeply in the foundations of Jak, New Beat, EBM, and Wave. Existing inside the liminal spaces of where light meets dark, we are presented with a documentation of dissonance and harmony. We begin our voyage with Jihad, a sluggish and slogging piece that unforgivingly drags us through the grime and the dirt in a ritualistic fashion that would have the ghost of Georges Bataille dancing in circles. Voices call out and howl into the dark as the drum patterns of the 707 rhythmically grasps onto its anarchic components. In the dark, we can see the light beyond the known universe. In the words of Sneaker "The name is not our message, but a document of an evident, traditional concept in (y)our world." As we find ourselves sprawled out on the ground following the 1st sonic stanza, a menacing voice bellows and warns that this is a Sax Track. Referencing Chicago icon Lil Louis, this work juxtaposes classical elements of house music together with the bare knuckled spirit of Jak. A magical spell led by disharmonious Portasound FM keys in conversation with a teetering sub bass, where at its core, this plus this, equals something that is uniquely familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. A number fit for any uncanny ritual that will fall under the night sky. Bringing our cosmic procession to a close we pick up the pace with a commanding number titled, Dance On, a no holds barred work that will possess your soul in the name of Jak. Flangers wail unforgivingly alongside a pulsating 101, as samples of the human voice are chopped up and arranged into a conversation that hypnotically calls for our bodies to be transformed into soft machines, while powered by ceremonious motions that are generated from the liberating process of ritual movement. Bloody Mary's Alternate States Of Reality on Dame Music delivers a powerful exploration of techno's diverse sounds. Side-1 opens with 'Reality One' (Acid mix), a heavy-hitting track drenched in mid-90s acid energy. The buildup is intense, leading to an explosive release that captures the essence of classic acid techno. Following it is 'Reality Two' (alternative mix), which shifts the vibe with a breakbeat/electro twist, introducing a darker, moodier melody. Flipping to Side 2, 'Reality Three' (909 mix) brings in a more percussive and straightforward warehouse techno feel. It's a banger designed for peak-time moments on the dancefloor. Stunning bit of research by Andrea Dallera (Dualismo Sound) and Gabriele Casiraghi who've been meticulously digging Italian bins. After endless sifting through this crucial time in Italian dance floor music, we are presented with their final distillation of this transitory period between 80's afro cosmic and Italo's peak into early 90's rave and Italo house era. In their words: “The whole concept was born as we started to find records that were into a kind of hybrid zone that was clearly pre-announcing some of the huge musical changes brought by the 90’s. The sound at play can be understood as looking closely to Belgian New Beat, Uk's Acid House and German early Techno but still connected with some dynamics of the ‘80s sounds: lashing snares and catchy melodic phrases joined by filthy acid bass lines, highly compressed kicks and 'World music' samples are just some of the most recurring elements.” Hands down mandatory for any dance floor oriented record collection.

030303 Records taught us a lot about the many faces of acid throughout the 18 years of its existence. The label has specialised in all substyles of the genre, whether that's tracks inspired by early 80s proto acid, Chicago house, braindance or the eerie melancholy of Polygon Window. Good thing is, they haven't stopped getting better at it. Most 030 releases are now out of print and severely sought after and, with so many instant classics featured on it, this fifth compilation will be no exception. Caramel Chameleon kicks off with an epic cut, one that will appeal to fans of Roy of the Ravers. Perseus Traxx, Raving Kid and RAG aka Steven Brunsmann follow suit with acid on a deeper tip, with the latter adding a heavenly soulful touch to it. And how great it is to see American producer Korr? return to the label with a wonderfully spaced out introspective cut. Also standing out is Endfest's heavy electro/acid take on one of the most obscure mysteries ever to come out of Detroit: Shari Vari. Dwaalgast and De Beer Uit Allekmaar aka Cosmic Force deliver the last track before the lights go on - the aptly named A Wave Goodbye has a distinctive, bouncy westcoast-sound-of-Holland feel to it. Miraculously, not one of these compositions has seen the light of day before; they were unearthed during a painstaking transfer of Repetto's extensive ‘88-‘04 DAT-archives.

MAN2.0 is a DJ and producer from London and has graced the decks in Berlin, Edinburgh Manchester and recently at the closing party of London clubbing institution the Cause, playing on the same bill as Optimo, Kink and Ben Sims among others.

Mark (as he’s known to his friends), has also released on Nein, Wonder Stories, Hypnotic Connection amongst others and has remixed for numerous artists such as Zakmina, Ali X (of Azari & III fame) and DDM boss Black Light Smoke, he has also picked up plaudits over the years from artists like Rex the Dog, DJ Sundae and has had his music described as ‘Dark but Ultimately redemptive by the late great Andrew Weatherall.’

Reasons', the new vinyl release from Caucasian Boy (the second release on Crispin J Glover's Century City Music imprint,) is a deep, ethereal, and soulful vocal production drawing comparisons with the classic 'Gabrielle' by Roy Davis Jnr. in both style and spirit.

A departure from the recent peak-time party bangers, the track highlights the range and diversity of production employed by Caucasian Boy, who combine techno, house and funk and countless other influences into their music.

'Reasons' is backed with 'Cinematix', the 'B' side track is a textured journey into classic Deep House.

It's coming home, it's coming home - house music is coming home! A second instalment of the Groove Access: series Chicago Is Home offers us five fresh tracks from the windy city landing in a glorious cavalcade of razor edged snares and hypnotic jack house. Ed Nine & Kid Enigma's 'Bandleaders' opens side one in spectacular fashion with spoken mantras lying deep in the mix, distinctive phasing arpeggios, poking keyboard riffs and ringing cymbals. JSquare's 'Get Wicked' kicks with even more power, tribal rhythms bouncing of bleepy melodies, before 'Move' by Geto Mark rounds off the side with the strutting, beautifully brutal 'Move', a proper 3AM peak time pleaser. Steve Noah's 'The Hater' opens side two, a wily acid line worming its way across a raw, stripped down backing before exploding into serious gnarliness when you least expect it. AFTR's 'Undercover' rounds things off with another knuckle duster of a tune, leaving no doubt that Chicago is still the place to be when it comes to house.

L/f/d/m, aka Richard Smith, makes his debut on Osàre, exploring the more delicate side of his intoxicatingly abrasive sound. Gold Like Glass is razor-sharp and elemental, with each track cast from long passages of synth dissected into heavy edits. According to Smith, this composition process is akin to printmaking, where the ink on a series of images deviates from the original stencil, becoming looser, softer and increasingly ghostly. ‘After Whitney’ is haunted by peak time rave energy; the drums are disembowelled, leaving a rolling climatic melody, utterly euphoric and disorientating. The track is followed by ‘Blood Byze Leech,’ a thunderously jagged affair, and ‘Delicate Push’ that fizzles like an electrified spinning-top, its frozen melodies accompanied by a lolloping beat. Turning over to the B-side, ‘Plute’ winds its way into dark psychedelia while ‘m-two nine’ descends into the realm of mutant de-accelerated bleep techno. Combing the ciphers of hardcore, its cruxes and suspense, with the serrated edge of minimal synth EBM, Gold Like Glass presents an
alchemical fusion of deeply danceable and cerebral noise.

Reemerging from the threshold of the cosmic vortex, Black Lodge returns with another sonic artifact that is charged with vigorous chaotic energy, known as Experiment_zero. Accounts of the radiant object's origin are as mysterious as the raw energy that utters from its core. Following a close study, the guardians of the portal suspect that "Experiment Zero" was a primordial experiment rooted in the slam jack pits and DIY warehouse rituals of ages passed. A sonic dialog constructed of various languages, spanning from roots-house jak to bare-knuckled electro are revealed across the artifact - a revolutionary tale that surpasses the constructs of ephemerality, with a refusal to be ignored. Across the release the listener is confronted with fearless acid lines that are underscored by a tone of revolution, and sets the stage for a human voice that switches between modes of a sharp and mutated presence. The power of such sonic objects are both celebrated and rejected by various tribal societies. It is all dependent on the belief structures and traditional histories of its members. Those that belong to the cult of Ron Hardy, Mad Mike Banks, Traxx, and JTC will welcomingly be drenched in its riotous energies. It is for the dedicated, not the light-hearted. After further research it has been discovered that, Experiment Zero is the product of Dona, aka Dj Plant Texture and Mike Tansella Jr. of Son of Traders, both products of the ancient mercantile city of Bari in Southern Italy. Previous works from these artists have been featured on Creme Organization, Gravitational Waves, Unknown to Unknown, and Illian Tapes. All sonic experimentation was recorded in one take to capture the raw energy of instantaneous collaborative sound craft operating in flux. Black Lodge's 4th release is sure to find a space in the music collections of those seeking to travel within the uncanny portals that unforgivingly defy the status quo. Influential Chicago House DJ/producer Parris Mitchell teams up with Siberian producer-singer-songwriter and DJ Nina Kraviz on ‘Feel My Butterfly’ - their debut release on Riva Starr’s acclaimed Snatch! RAW imprint as part of a collaboration with Dance Mania, out 28th June 2019.
The special 2 track vinyl and digital release sees Kraviz and Mitchell officially team up for the first time with their only other release encounter being in 2014 when Kraviz remixed Mitchell’s ‘The Track Stars’, released via Berlin-based label Deep Moves.
The result of the rare partnership is one to be relished, producing ‘Feel My Butterfly’ – a heady acid-laden dancefloor-ready masterpiece comprising of a sick ghetto house groove, an abundance of squelchy TB-303 acidlines and Kraviz’s distinctive spoken word vocal throughout.
To complement the Original Mix, Berlin’s DJ Krime steps up to deliver his own interpretation of the track for the B-side, delivering a powerful peak-time TR-808-tinged rework that boasts the original’s key elements.

Dripping Acid is a series of separate 12"s exploring themes of melodic liquid acid. Part 2 of 6 limited releases by the Tin Man!! -- For Tin Man, acid endures. Like the lapping of a sizzling ocean on the shores of a distant planet, the peaks and troughs of expansive 303 basslines have been a constant in the music of the producer born Johannes Auvinen. He dedicated his mid-2000s early period to the sound, and even as his productions have expanded in scope and style - from the vocaltinged techno of Cool Wave, Wasteland and Perfume, to the intricate, classical-leaning compositions of Vienna Blue - he has returned often to Roland's indelible bass synthesizer. His plaintive, searing melodies have anchored Absurd Recordings' venerable Acid Test series since its first release, and they've punched through the mix in the club music of recent collaborations with Gunnar Haslam (Romans), with Cassegrain, and also with John Tejada. So it wouldn't be accurate to call Tin Man's latest project, Dripping Acid, a rededication. Yet his most ambitious project to date - six 12"s comprised only of new acid compositions - embraces the style as wholeheartedly as he ever has. While the brittle machine-music of '80s Chicago is the blueprint of any acid track, Dripping Acid refrains from revivalism, instead looking forward and inward as it harnesses the 303's psychedelic potential through sumptuous production and adventurous composition. Though it's focused on a single style, Dripping Acid is tremendously diverse, expanding upon the evocative physicality of its track titles ("Evaporated Acid," "Drenched Acid," "Oozing Acid") to rend dancefloors of all shapes and sizes. Tin Man's acid can be exuberant and coy, bleak and technicolor, maximalist and impressionistic, even completely unrecognizable as acid - but as Auvinen stretches the sound to the point of snapping, he shows there's still bend in a decades-old template, and plenty more alien waves to ride.

L.I.E.S. delivers an insane hyper hybrid combo of Wave/House/Techno by Murray CY of Glasgow. The CY stands for "Contort Yourself" the label he runs which bridges the gaps between lost sounds of the past and contemporary noise makers, this EP displays the producers take on the sound perfectly. All four tracks move in their own way from mid-tempo heaviness to more peak time fare. This is the rough back alley stuff you've been warned about!

Remixes from Erika's second album "Anevite Void". "Anevite Void Remixed" showcases some of the many diverse influences on Erika's critically acclaimed second solo album "Anevite Void". Here her ambient album closer "Wandering Mountain" transforms into two faces of techno, first the monolithic hypnotic slab of sound from Mike Parker then to a powerful peak time melodic banger from Wata Igarashi. The other side features a totally different take on her influences, with Eris Drew delivering her "Body Rock Remix" fusing a number of styles to push the highlight of Erika's album to new heights, and Whodat discovering a deeper side to "Tomorrow's Fires".
